they are coming here. this is not just about baghdad and syria. it is about our homeland. >> the president says isis is iraq's fight. he says it requires the unified government to stop driving the sunnis to join the rebellion. >> what is the president's focus? >> reporter: well, he says his priorities are to protect the u.s. consulate in erbil. and to protect the refugees who have taken refuge on sinjar mountain. before leaving the white house yesterday, mr. obama phoned the leaders of britain, france and germany and asked them to help. britain and france have already actually agreed. the president says isis is mainly iraq's problem. >> the long-term campaign of changing that environment so that the millions of sunnis who

gone silent in israel and gaza at least for now. agreeing to an egyptian proposal for a new 72-hour cease-fire there. we're live in gaza city with the very latest. rick, do they think this will stick? >> reporter: it's hard to say, eric. there's a lot of skepticism here because there have been so many previous attempts at peace that have failed. but we do have a deal in place between the palestinians and israelis, a 72-hour cease-fire scheduled to begin at midnight. but in the meantime there are still rockets and attacks h happening in region. two rockets intercepted over ash dod. several this afternoon just after the palestinians announced the peace deal was on the table

and israel responded with force as it always does, hitting more than two dozen targets in gaza. there were several more deaths reported in gaza today and several yesterday as well, including some at a mofk. we went there as the search for bodies was under way. heavy equipment carves through concrete level trying to get to a mosque. the mosque controlled by hamas was used to store ammunition, according to the israeli military. it's one of 50 mosques destroyed, 170 more have been damaged. it's just in the middle of a refugee camp in the center of the gaza strip. it was hit by an air strike at 3:30 this morning. had it been hit 15 minutes later, there could have been hundreds of people inside. as three bodies were

pulled from the rubble. two of the victims were hamas fighters. this man says he was sleeping when the air strike jolted him out of bid. he and other locals crowded the site as the search for victims continues. that has been a typical scene here every day for just over a month. now, of course, there is hope for at least three more days of peace, and perhaps some concessions made at the bargaining table. >> all right, rick, maybe it will finally be come foging to end. meanwhile, some cell phone images after one of the engines on a flight caught fire. it was about to take off for jfk. 186 passengers and crew members were forced to make an emergency evacuation. three people did suffer minor injuries. meanwhile, the cause of that engine fire is under vision. and there was tragedy at the

race track. tony stewart pulling out of a race after the death of a fellow driver, kevin ward was accidently struck by stewart. he was walking on that dirt race track when he was hit. >> sad story for sure. at first stewart's team said he would be racing today. now the nascar star is sitting it out. it occurred in upstate new york. it's independent video which we cannot confirm. it shows what appears to be stewart's car colliding with a car driven by kevin washed junior. it spins out of control. then ward gets out of his car and starts walking on the track. that's when stewart's car comes

around again on the next lap and he strays to confront stewart who is hurtling towards him. that's when he collides, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. an executive for stewart's racing would not go into details today at a press conference. >> our hearts go out to obviously kevin and his family. thoughts and prayers. this is a very tough, very emotional time for everybody. >> as in any death investigation, we are going to sit down with the district attorney and staff and review when the investigation is complete. >> this afternoon, stewart released a statement in part that says there are not words to describe the sadness i feel about the accident that took the life of kevin washed junior. it's a very emotional time for all of us. it's the reason i decided not to par physical pate today at watkins glen. there have not been any final

reports issued. just now, reuters reports that the sheriff's department wrapped up a press conference showing there was no evidence of criminal intent and no pending criminal charges. >> just said and tragic. thank you so much. the fatal shooting of a black teenager. they are calling on the fbi to investigate the shooting of brown on saturday night. police say it happened after there was a heated exchange between brown and a police officer. the police chief claims the two officers pulled up to brown and his friend as they were walking on the street and told them to get on the sidewalk. they say one of the officers fired at the teens after a struggle over the officer's weapon. and we're continuing on the stop story on this sunday afternoon, the islamic terrorists who appear to be on the march in iraq.

understand that our physical separation from the world won't shelter us from its problems. we must realize that those threats aren't static. uncontested these political cancers will spread toward us. the author of that blunt warning, tom rogen is a columnist and joins us now. tom, it seems that the islamic threat is only spreading across the globe, from what we see in iraq and elsewhere. >> it can be stopped, but it's going to take a far more coordinated strategy on behalf of the white house. up until now we've seen a willful delusion of the nature of the threat and how to address it. what we're going to have to see in the coming weeks is much tougher action on the part of the president and that will involve, i think, necessarily, if it's going to be serious, greater deployment of force in the region, although, a lot of people would be uncomfortable with that. >> we've had four air strikes so far. they basically are taking out

artillery units, one by one, and it's not a massive air strikes against isis. and they're on the march conquering more territory in iraq. >> the president is simply doing the bare minimum he can do. >> will that do it? >> no, it won't do it. we need to see more air strikes, much more than air strikes, the buildup of u.s. military presence at the embassy. try and separate sunnis around the north of iraq from isis. but the question is, does the administration have the willpower to do this? they have this absolute hesitancy to address the situation as it is. and if you would just see these little tidbits, small steps, the threat will just continue to met tass size. >> you're talking about striding to engage those no northern

iraq. for many years we protected the kurds in kurdistan, and now the isis is only 25 miles away from erbil. >> that's an important issue. ultimately the united states in the region, the relationships are built upon a principle of trust, because of the syria red line position and now because of the active withdrawal of our presence both in iraq and in other places, that perception has been weakened even further. so unless the united states is showing significant willpower on the ground, including by personnel on the ground, it's going to be very hard to build those relationships, and it's ultima ultimately what it comes down to, relationships on the ground. unless we have presence, we woens have political power. >> and the human to human interactions by isis, stunningly horrific. we have these reports of

beheading young children, putting their heads on poles in a park in mosul. forcing christians to convert, pay a tax or they'll be killed. the yeah seed ease. we have them saying not only are they machine gunned to death. but women and chair aildren areg buried alive. how does the world react when we have these kinds of attacks against humanity. >> we have to stop the idea that somehow this was caused by the united states. this hasn't been. they revel in death. they take great pleasure, much more than al qaeda and iraq ever did. they don't just behead them.

they interview them for ten minutes and laugh with joy as they behead them. they believe they're on an ordained mission to purge the world of anyone not them. that includes muslims in northern iraq, anyone who isn't them. and they will not stop until they are either killed or arrested and put in prison. frankly, it's going to have to be the first option in most cases. or until we actually build a political consensus on the ground by taking away moderate sunni factions. you can't do that unless you're there. the iranians are there. we're not. do you want the iranians in charge? or do you want isis in charge and reenforce this political sectarianism. >> what are you afraid will happen? >> i think it's going to go one of two ways. either the president will build up strength in the region and take greater action -- i think that's what the military will be advising him to do. now that they're in, they're

buttner. so what happened to the friendly skies? >> very interesting, three years in a row. that coincides with the merger of united with continental. there's -- usually it takes a lot. those are big airlines merging together. it takes a lot to iron out the difficulti difficulties. >> there's been a lot of talk about problems with that merger. that they don't want to talk about united and some of the united guys don't want to talk about continental. >> it's always a problem. it's not necessarily long-term a problem. >> all right. let's take a look at this issue. who did this study? >> they are called airfare watchdog. >> the airlines with the fewest canceled flights, what about that? >> that's very interesting. online -- there we are. yes, delta was number one of that. delta jumped from number six to number one this year. so the -- the fewest canceled

flights, that had a lot to do with this. it's interesting to see jetblue last right there. they are head quartered in jfq. everyone knows it's one of the most congested in the world. >> they have to get all those big planes in first. >> absolutely. >> on time arrivals, alaska, number one? >> isn't that interesting. you would think with all the weather concerns in alaska, they wouldn't be number one. it's not just the airlines, but the airports know how to deal with snow pretty well. also, alaska airways fries to a lot of places that don't have snow problems. >> interesting. and they only have to go to alaska. customer satisfaction, what rates this? >> that's kind of a nebulous term. it's hard to know. it's what people basically like.
