for just doing their job? we will analyze. >> we have disagreement but i'm proud that i served with him and for him. >> hillary clinton tries to smooth over her foreign policy flap with president obama. but are things between the two leaders far worse than either side is letting on? >> going to hug it out with the president? >> absolutely. caution, you are about to enter the no spin zone. the factor begins right now. ♪ ♪ hi, everyone, i'm laura ingraham in for bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us tonight. our presidential pundit, that's the subject of this evening's talking points memo. just hours before the resignation of iraqi prime minister nouri al maliki today, the president interrupted his vacation to give us an update on iraq but also he chimed in on the racial unrest in ferguson, missouri.

>> the blol authorities, including the police have a responsibility to be open and transparent about how they are investigating that death. and how they are protecting the people in their communities. there is never an excuse for violence against police or for those who would use this tragedy as a cover for vandalism or looting. there is also no excuse for police to use excessive force peaceful protests or to throw protesters in jail for lawfully he exercising their first amendment rights. >> threw have it the leader of the free world sagging approval numbers jumping into another local criminal justice situation. and once again, he does this before all of the facts have been gathered, before authorities on the ground have completed their own investigation. remember his beer summit after silly comments about the henry lewis gates break-n cambridge or if i had a son it would look like

trayvon remarks. then of course attorney general who implies that the president's critics are racist. voter i.d. requests are racist. immigration enforcement is racist. these obama administration have stoked discord in america and sown more distrust between minorities and local lawmplets. think about what the president said today. while he did urge calm, he also intimated that the missouri police are out of control. they are targeting largely minority crowds with unreasonable force and they are hiding things. well, this is irresponsible and a dangerous speculation. especially coming from the president of the united states. we need to rebuild trust between minorities and the police, not breed more suspicion. and what is the president suggesting by the way that the police do to enforce a curfew when they are in danger or when stores are looted and ransacked? of course, there is the distinct possibility that politics is really the impetus driving the

president's involvement here. let's face it, his numbers are down across the board. and his party is looking very vulnerable in november. so, he switches the focus to racial injustice in missouri and away from his policy failures to try to gin up the base. this is textbook obama ma'am the country is facing serious national issues every day. we have a demoralize dollars middle class, mass illegal immigration. major foreign policy quandaries all that deserve serious and sustained attention. so he should stop micromanaging local police and stop playing the politics of division. there is supposed to be a difference between being the president of the united states and a liberal commentator on salon.com. and that's the hem mow. and now for the top story. the violence in ferguson, missouri. joining us now from ferguson, fox news correspondent mike tobin and from st. louis, radio talk show host mcgraw mill haven. mike, let's start with you.

the police pushed back today against this narrative that they are using unreasonable force. the police chief got up and said look, you guys have got this sideways here. this is not military style response. we are responding with the requisite force given inpredictable nature of the situation. >> that was his narrative. he said that officers have come under fire if you will from rocks from, molotov cocktails police helicopter has been fired upon with gunfire. the officers hear gunshots while they are out there. one officer had his ankle broken by a bring. that is really what led to the amount of force that they showed here today. they said it was all blue, meaning it was all police. if what we are seeing out here on the streets, it's had the opposite effect. given them another point upon which to protest. now we see the demonstrations are both about the death of michael brown but about police tactics as well. >> has the president's statement today, how was

that received if you can disesh that mike while you are there? i mean, the president was kind of nuanced if he at the beginning he did hit the police pretty hard on the transparency question. haven't released the identity of the officer and the tactics all that. >> he clearly came down on the side against the local police and the perception among the protesters is that he came down on their side. it put a lot of weight in their coroner, really put the weight of the white house in the coroner and the feeling that they are justified in all that they did out here. breathing over the comments president looting. about the ransacking of buildings. and it looks like the president clearly isn't interested in the locals keeping control. >> mcgraw, let's go to you. you have lived there for quite a while and the situation in ferguson is not -- it's not easy economically, right? got a very high unemployment. some reports that there had been some building tension over the years. this is taking it to an entirely new level. i mean, it seems to me there

are a lot of opportunists in this crud. there are some sincere protesters for sure. the death of an armed black teenager really serious stuff. all sorts of hooliganism. all taking advantage at the same time crying my civil rights are violated. >> laura, think about this for a second. people have been talking about police brutal for the last five days. do you know how many people have been injured in the police brutality over the last five days? zero. no one has been injured. no one has been taken to the hospital. there is no video of any police officer beating up anybody only thing you have is police officers telling reporters please, it's time for you to forks it's time for you to go and those reporters not paying attention. the police brutality angle on this is absurd. the town of ferguson is petrified. they are cowering in their closets because a few ugly someone protesters as you said taking advantage of the situation and trying to cause mass hysteria. >> being called pigs.

in the impact segment tonight, journalists covering the chaos in ferguson, missouri missouri. last night two reporters and they were arrested after a confrontation with police inside a mcdonald's. one of the reporters caught some of it on video. >> let's go. we don't have time to ask questions. let's go. >> can i move my car. >> you can move your car if your car is out here. >> it is. that's why i'm asking. you don't have time to answer or are you just being mean? let's go. here is a door over here. let's go. >> i'm going to jfrgets let's go, can you move. move move. sir, let's move. >> sir. >> let's move this way. here is the door this way or this way. >> now, both reporters were releasedh>="z shortly after ther

arrest without charges or explanations. also, last night al jazeera news crew said as they sat up for a live shot police fired tear gas and rubber bullets in their direction. president obama condition demed the police actions earlier today. >> here in the united states of america, police should not be bullying or arresting journalists who are just trying to do their jobs and report to the american people on what they see on the ground. >> but some are claiming that these journalists aren't just there to report a story. they are looking for trouble to gain fame and, perhaps, notoriety. joining us now from washington to analyze howie kurtz, fox news 1 11:00 a.m. every sunday. howie, what's the status? disappointing not to see threw with the happy meal at the mcdawned's waiting for -- mcdonald's waiting for the confrontation. police officer looks like a young guy trying to clear everybody out in an tis pace of what they thought was going to happen there. let's go, let's go. sounds like michelle obama

workout video. let's go. let's move. held up a cell phone to the cop's face. i imagine thats with annoying. what's your take on that aspect of it and then we will get to the rubber bullets. >> these reporters weren't grandstanding, covering a story and hanging out at hamburger joint. i might have gotten out there a bit quicker if the police asked me to leave. they were packing up camera equipment. these charges were so trumped up the police sergeant immediately threw it out. how do you justify the supplies slamming the head of one of the reporters wes lowery of the "the washington post" into a soda machine. i mean just so totally out of proportion to the situation where they weren't causing any trouble. >> i mean, i see that, obviously. i think what happens in a situation like, this you know, you hear about the fog of war, all sorts of things happen. i think in a situation like this where you have the huge crowds, and you are worried, right? the tension on the ground is already really heightened.

there are crowds gathering and there are gunshots being fired in the distance. those are those reports last night. projectiles being thrown. tear gas going the other way. i bet these cops, especially the young ones, they're kind of freaked out themselves. so i bet they overstepped a little bit and then the whole thing kind of spins out of control. it's not really a systematic attempt to stop the first amendment reporting of reporters. i think they were just trying to clear people out, maybe inexperienced cops got involved. i think was a bit of an overstatement by president obama. >> not a systematic attempt but it does seem to be sort of antipress attitude at least among some members of the police force here. firing tear gas at a camera crew that's setting up. whatever you think of al jazeera, a lot of the people don't like al jazeera, a this is appear te'o tack on journalism. i think the president felt compelled to speak out on behalf of journalists. >> do we know thats watt intent to fire it at the al jazeera crew or this was just part of their overall

response? did they see the al jazeera and say we want you gone? >> that's what al jazeera claims. i wasn't there. so, some of this is a bit murky as you say. and i have been troubled by some of the coverage. in the case of these arrests and tear gassing and asking people to turn off their camera phones, you know. >> is that really knew? i keep going back to this. i sound like a police apologist. believe me i'm not. i feel like in some cases here the journalists themselves are all hopped up. everybody is looking for a confrontation. look, when the police say clear the mcdonald's, you should kind of start clearing. if i'm a police officer, and you are worried about this whole situation going out of control, and someone's first reaction is to shove an iphone into your face, and need interviewed no we are not interviewing. he said let's move i don't know a or 6 times in that little clip. and rubber bullets, everything that is a different deal if that was drop on purpose. that looks like a young kid in police tactical gear and

trying to clear out a place and journalists trying to drag their feet. >> it was a volatile situation there are things that reporters can do provocative risk arrest. sneaking into a cordoned off area. i didn't see any evidence of that in this. we do have the video. i am troubled by the way in which the national media, and we have talked about this in the trayvon martin case and others kind of feast on racially charged cases mayor saying al sharpton coming down to create a spectacle. he does a thing when he appears in a news conference with michael brown's family msnbc. >> bring the satellite dishes in and you think the situation is going to get calmer? i think people start playing to the camera. but, look, reporters should be respected. >> we are getting one side because we don't know the identity, police officers a lot more to come out. the media have to be careful about not rushing to justice. >> thank you so much. hear from the attorney of the family of michael brown whose shooting death spark for this week's violence in missouri moments away.

they're devastated and heard the president address michael and also the situation in their hometown saying we need to be peaceful and we need to protest in a responsible way. >> mr. crump what is the reaction to unwillingness to identify the police officer in question. there is a lot of controversy. they're demanding to know who he is. there have been death threats against him and his family. what is the latest on that? >> well, laura, they are parents who are still trying to come to the reality their son is never coming back. he was shot multiple times by a police officer in broad daylight

when he was unarmed with a tee shirt, shorts and flip flops. it's a situation they continue to wait for answers from the police department and when they won't give the name of the police officer that shot their teen-aged son multiple times and witnesses describe it, execution style. >> the president's statement today, same time talking about iraq, then, this. did you have conversations with eric holder? has the white house reached out to you in the aftermath of all of this? >> no. ma'am, it's been justice department officials have went to missouri and met with the family. and during a joint investigation.

they do a independent investigation because there is a distrust between the local community, the family and law enforcement agencies there in st. louis. we want an independent investigation and want an independent autopsy looking at ballistics examinations. there is no way to justify doing this to this kid >> as far as you understand, racial relationship between police department and community, what was it like? i interviewed store owners on my radio show this week. they're from israel, actually. they said we never have problems here in ferguson.

and said we've had great relationships. >> and just from that perspective they're very disappointed with the looting and rioting. they don't think that is a reflection of they want their son's legacy to be. they ask people peacefully protest. as you asked about the relationship, i think there have been some challenges with getting diversity within the police department. and that was an ongoing struggle. the hope is that if everything is transparent, the community can be healed and they'll be able to move forward from the tragedy. >> thank you mr. crump we appreciate it. hillary clinton and mr. obama trying hard to make us think everything is rosie between

in the factor follow up segment tent, the fallout between president obama and hillary. the former secretary of state is in full damage control mode following her recent criticisms about the president's foreign policy. she addressed the controversy yesterday during her book tour in martha's vineyard. >> we agreed we are committed to the values and the interests of the security of our country

beautiful nashville democratic strategist john rollie. let's go to nashville first because i'm partial to nashville. it's a bit of a choreographed thing. she criticizes him and they come out and say well, we still like each other but we might have some policy differences and then they go to the big party last night and everyone is wondering did he just dance alone? did he actually physically dance together? it's all kind of ridiculous at this point. right? come on. >> it doesn't feel choreographed to me. i think the bottom line is in terms of presidential politics it's probably a good exchange for hillary and not necessarily a bad one for obama. and when when it comes to presidential politics, anybody who seeks to be the nominee of their party wants to carve out some independent space, so whether her comment a few days ago was casual or calculated, i think if she runs this will accrue to her benefit. i look forward to -- i mean, i look forward to hearing

some of the right wing rave reviews of her mild critique from the president. anything the president does. >> i'm of the view that you can't really tell hillary and jeb bush apart on most foreign policy questions. her comments didn't surprise me at all. john, let's talk about this. hillary comes across as a -- kind of a neo conservative in those atlantic monthly comments, right? her comment about should have gone into is syria, i mean, it could be john mccain or linz is i graham, right? how does the last embrace, job, how does the left embrace that? how do you embrace that if you are antiwar democrat given what hillary says? >> i think there are a broad set of views across the democratic party and across the country what we need to do in the various conflicts so around the world. so i don't really feel like she is espousing a neo conservative view. >> richard, i meant to direct that to you. i don't see the great thirst in the democrat ranks to get

involved in another conflict in the middle east. a bunch of my neighbors are pretty big liberals. they are horrified by what hillary said. they think obama is doing too much now in iraq. >> i think it's not only democrats. i think it's the world. it's it the entire country, rather. i think most americans do not want us to engage in another war. listen, i say this all the time and i have got to tell it you, la are a, it's different when you are outside the white house looking. in when you are inside the white house looking out. when you are inside the white house looking out and getting the intelligence briefings and getting top information from your generals, you have a different set of cards that you are playing with clearly i think hillary is trying to create a day and night between her and this white house because she was once part of this white house. i think it's really too early to tell whether or not one if she is running and two if she decides to run same foreign policy strategies. >> you are still guessing about whether hillary is running for president? it's like jeb bush going to run? well, don't get me started on that.

politics. you are one of the biggest factors of the obama. huge fundraisers. any disappointment? anything that he could do now that you would say okay, that's it. i can't be with you anymore? because there is some disenchantment obviously now. >> for me. no because here is what i think he has done. i think that he didn't authorize those military strikes right away. and i think the reason was they wanted to get, you know, maliki out oof the government. >> you are talking about in iraq. >> in iraq. they kept saying that over and over again. i think thats watt subtext of it it i'm no expert at it. i think they wanted to get rid of him. the only leverage they had was we can save you but he has got to go. and i think him going could be a path to a better situation. >> what about hillary? we were just talking about this stumble, criticizing obama and then they had the big meeting. i know have you been to some of these martha vineyard convenience. you were a backer of hillary. are you still great friends. >> i showed hillary and a president clinton the giver which they both loved on

earlier today his widow revealed in addition to suffering from depression and anxiety williams had also been battling the early stages of parkinson's disease. could that have contributed to the depression that ultimately caused him to take his own life? joining us now with reaction fox news medical correspondent dr. mark mark siegel. >> hello. >> very sad. >> very sad. >> so tell us how parkinson's interacts perhaps to cause this ultimate depression? >> i think it's directly related. parkinson's has a very high incidence of depression with it. it affects the hormones of the brain that cause depression, dopamine. patients have depression before they have the symptoms of parkinson's. and on top of that if he read anywhere he was going to get slowing with speech, problems with balance and coordination, issues with walking, shaking tremors. i mean, imagine robin williams with those symptoms? he knew it was going to affect his ability to work. >> we don't know how long he had had the diagnosis, correct? >> right.

and you can't tell from looking at his tv shows or later films that there's anything going on there. it's very early. but the part that can happen earliest is depression itself. he was already battling depression. we already knew he had anxiety and depression and parkinson's makes it a lot worse. >> once you get that diagnosis, what can you do to be vigilant about the depression let alone the coming symptoms? any treatments today? >> it's a great question because you know patients that have parkinson's depression respond well to antidepressants, ones we use. those work well in parkinson's patients. we don't know what kind of vigilance and treatment he actually had. ironically i wish he had his own patch adams, a doctor that was there for him. i don't know if he had one or didn't have one. >> you talked to me during the break about suicide versus homicide. we focus a lot on homicides in the united states, important stories no doubt.

but suicide, it's still taboo. everyone in my orbit knows someone or knows someone or knows someone who knows someone who committed suicide. this is an epidemic and we really don't devote the time in talking about it because it's so uncomfortable. >> tenth leading cause of death in the united states. it's twice as common as homicide. we talk about homicide on this program, and i would tell everyone out there you have to ask the question. is the person hopeless? and more importantly, do they have a plan? and i'm not saying robin williams would have revealed that horrible plan he had. i don't know. but i ask every patient, i'm not afraid to ask them. if they're depressed i say are you hopeless, is there any pleasure in your life, what gives you pleasure? if they say no, i say have you thought of suicide and what would you do? >> and you think the last desperate act of a human being. there's no coming back from it. and then it's over. so you think what could we have done, we.t#z say that in every when we know someone who was that sad. i remember in high school one of my classmates committed suicide.
