step up the to the podium. take the microphone and clear your throat. hey, isis, you just brought a knife to a drone fight. message set, message received. have a great weekend, everybody! two big developing stories out of iraq on this busy saturday. more terror attacks in a nation where violence and brutality is sadly becoming part of deadly life. there is the possibility that violence will be reaching our chores. intelligence sources are saying isis is planning an attack on the u.s. the calm after the storm. another quiet night in ferguson, missouri after days of violent protests between police and demonstrators earlier this week. with rallies planned around the country and michael brown's funeral on monday. will this piece hold? we are live on the scene there. superstar, larry gatlin,

messenger from the heartland, couldn't interest i music star, has traveled the country across america. our conversation about what americans want for themselves and the nation. hello, everybody. i'm uma kamaraju. america's news headquarters starts right now. we begin with this alert. there has been more violence in iraq designed to further shatter that fragile coalition between religious groups. a homicide bomber driving a car full of explosives into an intelligence headquarters in baghdad. hours after an attack on a sunni mosque that killed more than 60 people there as well. we have extensive coverage beginning with connor powell who is joining us. >> as you said, the situation there growing more desperate and chaotic with each passing day. two different suicide attacks, one in baghdad and one near takrit. this comes after more than 60
9:02 am
were killed yesterday. the u.n. is warning of a growing humanitarian crisis like we saw several weeks ago materializing outside the city of amer north of bag dag because of the isis. it has been surrounded by isis militants for two months. the u.n. warning of a potential massacre there by isis fighters. this comes as the u.s. and other western nations are facing growing pressure to step up their attacks on isis. in recent days, america has counted the islamic militants in northern iraq. the obama administration is considering expanding its military response. the president says he will not send u.s. ground troops there. one option is equipping and training more moderate syrian rebel force across the border. there are serious doubts that the moderate syrian opposition force will materialize. they can take on isis and fight
9:03 am
the assad regime. if isis is going to be defeated, they are going to have to be hit in their home base of syria, not just iraq. the obama administration is considering that. they have so far stayed away from any military action in syria. there are real concerns they probably won't do that. it isn't clear what will happen. we know isis continues to spread in not only syria but also iraq. >> thank you so much for that update. appreciate it. >> the kurdish fighters in iraq have shown incredible bravery against isis forces in safeguarding thousands of religious minorities who have fled into kurdish areas to escape forced conversions or slaughter. it is great to see you here once again in our studio, sir. talk to me for a moment about how conditions there are on the ground at this moment. what you are hearing from your contacts on the ground there? >> thank you, uma, for having
9:04 am
me. the conditions remain intense on the ground. it continues to threaten regional stability and the kurdish forces. some of the equipment we hked fl xhau community is starting to arrive. we are appreciative of the united states assistance. the air strikes have been very effective in cutting back on some of this momentum that isis continued as they were having their eye on that. however, the situation remains intense. this threat, this organization, no longer an organization actually, a state now, an army, continues to have a lot of the equipment and the military equipment that was given to the iraqi security forces, american made in their hand and they remain a big threat to us and to the greater region. >> but the fighters must be very relieved to know that they were able to retake the big dam there. >> absolutely.
9:05 am
this wasn't going to happen without the support of the u.s. air strikes. the air strikes took place and then you had the iraqi killing forces on one side and the others on the other side wept after the isis militants, eliminated a lot of them. some of them ran away. now, the danl is in the hands of the pershmerga forces. it boosts the morale and this is a critical infrastructure. if this infrastructure was compromised, this could have been catastrophic and you could have seen floods as far south as the u.s. compound in baghdad. >> where are the fighters? what is the aim in terms of going after the isis terrorists in other cities along that region? there are some towns that are still surrounded by isis troops. there is one town there where the community is starving to death because they have been cut off from all food and water. >> there are two towns that you
9:06 am
are referring to. one is a small village that isis got their hands on a couple days ago. they have killed hundreds of men, rounded up women and enslaved them and now they are selling them for anywhere between $12 and $115, women or young ladies. these are heartbreaking stories that are coming. the other town is mostly the turk town. the town they have been starving for days. this is where we are now escalating this cause and calling for the international community to step in. food and water while we find a way to get to these people. >> can air strikes alone do the job with the fighters there on the ground? >> absolutely not. the air strikes have been very effective when isis has been in the open. what now they are doing, they are blending in with a population spreading themselves among the urban areas. what's going to have to happen,
9:07 am
the forces will have to come in and clear the areas, street by street, block by block, town by town. this is where the critical needs are. to do that, you have to be properly equipped. the iraqi security forces have to be properly equipped. we are starting to see some equipment come in. baghdad remains an obstacle. the equipment that has been coming in, baghdad requires all military planes and cargo to come to baghdad for inspection and the inspection could have taken as much as seven days. this obstacle needs to be removed. prime minister maliki should step in and allow this to happen. they are not just enemies of the kurds but the sunnis and shiites. >> they are still getting push back from maliki. >> absolutely. he remains in power for another two weeks. >> do you remain hopeful? >> in terms of the government formation in baghdad. >> in terms of what the forces have been able to accomplish. >> the air strikes again have
9:08 am
been very effective. my minister has said, we are fighting isil on behalf of the entire world. if we do not beat them here, you will have to the bale battle in your homeland. we can battle them in iraq and syria. otherwise, they will end up here. seeing the example of how quickly and rapidly they could hit home with the beheading of james foley. >> the threat is very serious. one that is not being taken lightly here in this country. thank you very much for joining us. always great to see you. defense secretary, chuck hagel, described isis, beyond anything we have seen and that we must take a cold, hard look at them. calling the group an imminent threat to every interest we have. he adds, we must prepare for anything. that's a sharp contrast from the president's remarks this week who still maintains, it is the
9:09 am
iraqi government which must seize the initiative. >> we're not the iraqi military. we are not even the iraqi air force. i am the commander in chief of the united states armed forces. iraq is going to have to provide for their own security. >> general mcinerney, great to have you. we have chuck hagel and martin dempsey saying that open boreds and immigration issues have made foreigners who have joined isis an immediate threat. he is saying we need to take this fight into syria. yet, you have the president saying isis needs to be contained in iraq. why are military leaders speaking what seems to be a different language than the president? >> well, there is a huge narrative gap, uma. the president thinks everything is okay. the narrative he won
9:10 am
re-election, al qaeda is dead. he killed osama bin laden and all that. he has the wrong narrative. he is three years behind. the chairman of the joint chief of staff and secretary defense hagel on thursday were pleading, pleading for us to start doing something. ice sis unchecked is a threat to the united states and soon, not two or three years from now but very, very soon. we need to take very aggressive, corrective action. the white house isn't. you have got the secretary of state, kerry, who is saying that we must deisis. we must immediately, i mean tomorrow, they need to start hitting 200 targets a day. the president has to get with it. as judge janine says, he has to put his big boy pants on and be the leader of the free world. you can't lead and destroy isis
9:11 am
leading from behind. we have to go after these targets. it is an easy air campaign and it should be in syria as well as it should be in iraq. it must be a very aggressive 24/7 campaign. we have to resupply directly to the kurds. we are not supplying the kurds very much. maliki is holding it all up. they are our best allies out there next to the israelis. >> speaking of syria, the fact that after three years of avoiding it and not making good on his line in the sand warning to syria, he now may be pushed towards military action there. to go after isis targets. what's the reality of that happening from your point of view. what are you hearing? >> if he doesn't, then we are going to lose. we ought to be attacking their command of control on the 10th of march, el baghdadi went in a convoy of 30 vehicles from mosul back into syria, because he was afraid of u.s. air power. we should have destroyed them
9:12 am
then. now, we have to go in and take them out in syria. we ought to do anything that goes after isis in syria and support the free syrian army as well as attacking them in iraq. it has to be an aggressive campaign. let's not worry about that border. >> i hear the urgency in your voice. more and more people are saying the isis threat is coming here to our own back yards. what are you hearing? zon the 7th of september, a major news network and publishing network are going to put out a book. it is going to be earth shattering of what's happening and what happened. the fact is we may even see a 9/11/14 mh-370 surface again. we should go to defcon 1, our
9:13 am
highest state of readiness and be prepared as we lead up to 9/11. >> when you say a major news organization is coming forward with a publication, what are you referring to specifically? can you allude to that, give us more details? >> i can't give you any more than what i've just said. but it is going to be extremely important and america should take notice. we are less safe today than we were six years ago. lieutenant general mike flynn, who is retiring now, has pointed out, they have almost doubled the radical islamic organ sdwlag sdwla zations in the last six years and a 30% increase in the structure. >> you are saying we should raise the terror level threat at this point ahead of the anniversary of 9/11. >> absolutely, uma. >> that's very sobering and something we have to watch very carefully. general, great to have you here.
9:14 am
>> thanks very much. now, we want to hear from you. what do you have to say about the growing isis threat? now that we are learning, isis members may already be in the u.s. should the feds raise the terror threats. tweet me your answers. i will read some later in the show. turning now to issues here at home and ferguson, missouri. it has been two weeks since the shooting of 18-year-old michael brown. for the third night in a row, no violence and no disruptions. as the investigation into that shooting continues, the police officer at the center of the storm, officer darren wilson, is receiving support in nearby st. louis where a rally is being held to let him know he is not being forgotten by those that support him. garrett tenney is joining us
9:15 am
live from st. louis. garrett? >> reporter: we are here at this sports pub. this is about 17 miles from ferguson where supporters of darren wilson have gathered to honor him today. this comes after this night you mentioned of another night of peaceful protests. this is what we have seen the last three nights. last night, there were zeer pro arrests. that is the first night that has happened in almost two weeks. back here at barney's, this is one of several rallies happening in the area for officer darren wilson and michael brown. you can see, many of those coming out today are law enforcement families. those of officers here. people are coming from around the region and around the country, driving and offering their support, say they would like to give donations. you see we have these shirts here that they are selling as well with she's shields on that say, officer darren wilson, i stand by you.
9:16 am
>> now, i am here with mark, one of the organizers of this rally. mark, why is it that it was important for y'all to come out here this weekend and put this together? >> we thought it was important for darren wilson, officer wilson and his family to understand there are people out here that support him. there are people out there that care about imhad and his well-being and let him know we have his back and we are here to support him. >> reporter: what message are you wanting to send out there? we haven't seen these type of rallies or protests supporting officer wilson the last two weeks. you are coming out this weekend to do that. why now? >> we waited a little bit to look at it. his name is getting dragged through the mud. we didn't think it was fair. there are two sides to every story. we are trying to get his side out there. we are trying to tell you to keep faith in law enforcement and keep the faith in officer wilson. >> reporter: the two sides of the story, that is something that's ongoing.
9:17 am
the grand jury is still hearing that evidence to determine whether or not to bring those charges. so far, those supporters have raised nearly $290,000 for officer wilson and his family. uma? >> garrett, thank you very much. >> as you just heard, ferguson remains calmer. tensions remain over many unanswered questions tied to the shooting of this 18-year-old unarmed teen. coming up, you will here from the high-profile forensic pathologist, who traveled to missouri at the request of that young man's family and performed a second independent autopsy on michael brown. he tells us he thinks this case is -- he tells us how he thinks this case is being handled so far. despite this week's indictment, texas governor, rick perry, isn't letting it stand in the way of his political agenda. the possible presidential candidate is out and about gaining momentum at rallies and states where he is getting a warm welcome. >> i am going to fight this injustice with every fiber of my being.

the family of michael brown asking a rae noun forensic scientists to examine the body. it shows that the teen was shot at least six times, including twice in the head. he says the information does not assign blame or justify the shooting. i recently sat down with him. he says the family called him because they were upset accusing the police of withholding important information about the shooting.>> from the very begin letting the body lay out in the street for so long with the public looking at it without any initial cpr or attempt show respect for the body, without covering up the body feeds into anger in the community. >> are you saying often in a murder situation, the body does stay in place until the cops come and investigate the scene?

>> that's indoors. we have somebody out here in front of fox studio. there is a car accident. somebody is killed in a car accident. cops come out and take pictures and get the body out of the way so that public doesn't gather around it. >> so in terms of procedure, you saw that that as a major flaw from how that could be read or people could misconstrue and come to their own conclusions without all the facts. the autopsy in and of itself, lots of questions were raised by virtue of the fact of the findings that you have. the conclusion that you have drawn from this is that it could be a situation where this young man may have been coming at the officer or he could have been in a defensive position. >> right, or just standing. the autopsy can never be completely evaluated by itself. it has to have the circumstances
