[ inaudible ] >> and you see this family, these people capturing some of this on video. it went on for several seconds. the magnitude 6.0 tremendous bler jolting people out of their beds from sacramento to san jose. the largest to hit the bay area since 1989. 89 people we're told injured. three in critical condition at this hour with reports of ruptured water and gas lines, they really want people to be careful. if they're going in and out of buildings, they've really got to be careful. tens of thousands of people too without electrical power now. claudia is live with the latest. >> reporter: certainly one of the hardest hit areas is this mobile home park in napa. we're just about 7 miles north of the epicenter. four of these mobile homes

reduced to are you able arubble. this mobile home is still smoldering. a lot of seniors live here. fire crews went door to door to make sure everyone got out safety. no one hurt but a dicy situation because of a water main break. they had to let the fire burn until they could bring in water from a nearby swimming pool. 30 water main breaks reported around the region as well as a hundred calls of reported gas leaks. still about 20,000 customers without power. that's down from about 70,000 customers. most of napa did not suffer significant damage and folks who have plans to visit shouldn't cancel. they say the roads are open and the water is safe to drink. but those areas that suffered significant damage will be closed for a while. >> we heard the city manager talk about 15, 16 building.

but you bring up a good point. this is key wine tasting season for them. you hate to see this happen any time, but it's tough on the economy right now. we're -- and our viewers could see this. it shook for quite a while. reports of 15, 18 seconds. >> reporter: you know, harris, as important owners go around assessing the damage, of course most of it physical, but a lot of it psychological too. this was an early morning quake in the middle of the night. it seemed to last forever by my estimation at least 15 seconds. it was scary. take a listen. >> felt like somebody was just getting ready to pull the house out from underneath us. thought it was going down. yeah. it was scary. >> reporter: and a quick update now about injuries. you mentioned the three critical injuries. two adults and a child severely injured. more than 120 people treated at

at a hotel, these cottages. so we're in this cottage and i thought -- i was woke up bouncing up and down in bed. i was almost thrown out of bed. if you didn't hang on, you were going to be thrown out of bed. as claudia just said, i've been through a number of these earthquakes. and they're fine if they last five to ten seconds and you know that's just a shaker. when they go on, you know, okay, this is big and it's doing damage right now. she said 15. i'll give it 20 seconds. it feels like eternity, but it was a long quake. very sharp jolt first and then it was just continuing to roll and roll and roll the ground underneath the building we were in. >> what is that like? give us a sense for those who have never been in an earthquake. what is it like when, as you say, it goes on for like 20

seconds? you're thinking what's going to happen. >> yeah, and that's the -- there's nothing you can do other than just wait it out. if you have a chance, try to get in a doorway or something like that. but with the floor moving underneath you, it's even -- you know, hard to navigate on your feet. and again coming right out of a dead sleep. but it took a half a second, i knew exactly what was going on even though i was startled. i've been through them, but it's always the surprise when these things happen. >> you said it's one of the three worst. is that because of the length of time this lasted or what was the reason for that? >> no it -- i was in the low ma prieta quake. i was in one when i was a senior in high school when i was bigger. you could tell this was going to be a big one, but it wasn't quite as big as the 1989 quake and one earlier. >> glad you're okay. see you back here in the
