something compelling to watch. >> also tonight, actress sophia under fire for satirizing herself at the emmys, but why? we will tell you. caution, you are about to enter the no spin zone from los angeles. the factor begins right now. ♪ ♪ >> hi, i'm bill o'reilly, reporting tonight from southern california, thanks for watching us, the truth about white privilege, that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. last night on the factor, megyn kelly and i debated the concept of white privilege whereby some believe that if you are caucasian you have inherent advantages in america. talking points does not, does not believe in white privilege. however, there is no question that african-americans have a much harder time succeeding in our society. even whites do.
5:02 pm
but the primary reason is not skin color. it's education. and not only book allergic, here are the facts. according to the bureau of labor statistics, the unemployment rate for black americans is 11.4%. it's just over 5% for whites, 4.5% forations. so, do we havation privilege in america? because the truth is, thattation american households earn far more money than anything else. median income forations close to $69,000 aer i don't. it's 57,000 for whites, 3 $3,000 for black, so the question becomes why? and the answer is found in stable homes and emphasis on education. 88% of asian americans graduate from high school. compared to 86 for whites and just 69% for blacks. that means 31% of

african-americans have little chance to succeed in the free marketplace because they are uneducated. they are high school dropouts. ation americans also tend to keep their families intact. just 13% ofation children live in single parent homes. compared to a whopping 55% for blacks. and 21% for whites. so, there you go. that is whyation americans, who often have to overcome a language barrier, are succeeding far more than african-americans. and, even more than white americans. their families are intact and education is paramount. american children must learn not only academics but also civil behavior, right from wrong, as well as how to speak properly and how to act respectfully in public. if african-american children do not learn those things, they will likely fail as adults.
5:04 pm
they will be poor. they will be angry, and they often will be looking to blame someone else. one caveat, thation american experience historically has not been nearly as tough as the african-american experience. slavery is unique and it has harmed black americans to a degree that is still being felt today, but, in order to succeed in our competitive society, every american has to overcome the obstacles that they face. here is where the african-american leadership in america is failing. instead of preaching a cultural revolution, the leadership provide excuses for failure. the race hustlers blame white privilege and unfair society a terrible country, so the message is, it's not your fault if you abandon

your children if you become a substance abuser, if you are a criminal. no, it's not your fault it's society's fault. that is the big lie that is keeping some african-americans from reaching their full potential. until personal responsibility and a cultural change takes place. millions of african-americans will struggle. and their anger, some of it justified will seeted. the federal government can't fix this problem. only a powerful message of responsibility can turn things around. and that's the memo. now for the top story tonight, reaction on sunday, dr. ben carson debated reverend jesse jackson about racial unfairness in america. here is how dr. carson began. >> first of all, reverend jackson, thank you for what you have done in the past, particularly during your days with reverend martin

different problem today. the problem today is a social problem. it's not so much a racial problem. you can take any group and you put them in an environment where there is no father figures to teach them, you know, personal responsibility and how to relate to authority. you put them in an environment where people advocate resolving issues with violence. and an environment where drugs and alcohol are easily accessible. and an environment where education is not put on the top shelf, it's the thing that you want to accomplish. and then you send them out into society. well, what's going to happen? they're going to meet up with law enforcement or they are going to meet up with other people who were raised the same way as they are. and, also, ha that same mentality. in either case you are going to have a disaster. that's what we are seeing. it's not a racial thing, it's a social thing. >> all right. but reverend jackson, with all due respect, is he not

if we can't offer faster speeds - or save you money - we'll give you $150. comcast business. built for business. book of the book segment tonight, police using military gear. >> police, search warrant. >> every day, swat teams crash into homes at dawn with their guns drawn. often with lots of military equipment that seems unnecessary and provocative, to me. nobody paid much attention to how heavily armed they were until the ferguson riot. now, suddenly this is a big story. >> joining us from new york is john stossel, who, of course, voiced over that piece of propaganda. [ laughter ] so, you are telling me you believe that swat teams don't need the military gear? is that what you are saying? >> well, most don't need so much. they need some, depending what they are doing for a riot or hostage situation.
5:50 pm
but most of what they do is not that most of what they are doing now are drug raids. >> but, you know, this all ignited because of the recovery reaction and i do agree it was an overreaction on the first night of the first looting, that they came out and they were looking like kent state, and americans don't want a militarized law enforcement situation. >> right. >> i will agree with that, i think you're wrong about the s.w.a.t. raids. let me back it up with stats. in the last 10 years, 2003 to 2012, 535 american police officers killed and 580,000 injured during arrests. 580,000 police officers in this country. many of whom couldn't work again. i'm telling you, if i'm out there, and i'm a police officer,
5:51 pm
i want every piece of gear i can have on these raids. >> i would too, but why are they doing all the raids. they were originally after the los angeles riots, the watts riots, trying to protect them in a riot. now there are 100 raids a day, poker games, a frat house that supposedly had under aged when you break down a door in the middle of the night, often people react violently, there are alternatives. >> okay, look. >> smart s.w.a.t. teams use -- a ruse. >> i'm going to give you another stat. i don't believe all this stuff. do i believe police agencies make mistakes? yes. every human being does. and every agency does. 99.9% of arrests made in this country are made without incident. without any violence whatsoever. it is infinitessimal.
5:52 pm
this is how i destroyed the provok tors who went into ferguson and said police are killing off black men. i did it with stats. only 4% of those are for violent crimes, most of it is dui's and nonviolent arrests, drug possession, it's good, if that's the record, and most cops are good. >> it's unbelievable. it's unbelievable. because you know the emotions that happen, during any arrest, even if it's a small arrest, and the police officer has to protect him or herself. last word. >> we have almost a million police officers in america. some are obnoxious bullies, you are an obnoxious bully, but police officers are special, because they can take our freedom and they can shoot us. and we need to have an extra
5:53 pm
standard to watch them. >> you know, i think you're doing a disservice to them. some are, but very few are. very few. >> most are dedicated to protecting us. >> they in turn deserve protection. stossel, thank you. coming next, sophia vergara being criticized for her performance at the emmys. i was there. i'll tell you exactly what happened in a few moments.

wat watch. >> well, almost immediately social media starting ginning up a controversy that was foolish in the extreme. miss vergara obviously is a tirizing herself. channeling marilyn monroe, she's a very talented comedic actress. even if you don't think the bit was funny, it certainly wasn't demeaning, it was satire, people. and it's outrageous when you think of all the trashy entertainment that holly wood endorses. factor tip of the day, political contradi correctness is harming the country. it's totally out of control. we'd like you to spout off about the factor from anywhere in the world, o'reilly@foxnews.com. word of the day, do not be a t pettifogger. they're all over the place,
