thank you very much. thanks for being part of the "real story." great to be with you. jon scott is in today. russian invasion. the u.s. and nato report russian troops are pouring across ukraine's border along with convoys of weapons and vehicles. a rebel leader claims those troops aren't fighting, they're simply on vacation. plus, the feds now said to be investigating a major cyberattack on at least one big u.s. bank. so who is responsible? and is your money safe? and a deadly brain-eating amoeba in one local water system. officials say the water is safe to drink -- just don't let any of it get up your nose. first from fox, the president and his top security advisers are about to gather in the white house situation room for a closed door meeting on the threat of the islamic state. that meeting scheduled for the top of the next hour along with a briefing for reporters.

comes as sources tell fox news a second american has died in syria fighting side by side with islamic state terrorists. according to minnesota public radio, the man was a somali american from minneapolis who had nine children. the radio said profifiled the alleged jihadist in june. he wrote to a reporter, "i give up this worldly life for allah." the state department has not confirmed his death. our twin cities station reports he was killed in the same battle in which this american died fighting alongside terrorist. u.s. officials say dozens of americans have gone to stooer fig -- to syria to fight with the islamic state, as much as 100. meanwhile, a look at the terror group's brutality. activists say this video posted on line shows islamic state militants forcing captured syrian soldiers to walk bare foot in their underwear across

the scorching desert. their captor taunts them, calls them sheep, and makes the sound of herding animals. the militants say they slaughtered the prisoners one by one. syrian state television aired video of fields littered with decomposing bodies. here a prisoner is forced to stand as his captors throw things at him. they question him and tell him, "we will return you to hell. we will cut your throat." that's where the video ends. we do not know whether they made good on that threat. katherine on fox top story live in washington. >> reporter: somali american identified by a minneapolis source to fox news as abdi ram an muhammed is reported to be the second american killed this month fighting for isis. while the state department is not commenting on the case, at the briefing a spokeswoman confirming a dramatic change. >> the threat of isil has
12:03 pm
increased over the course of time. it's increased over the last six months. we've seen an increase in the use of western passports, and there are several events we could point to in that regard. and the strength of isil has built. >> reporter: based on social media, muhammad nu douglas mccain from minneapolis was killed over the weekend. he was sent these images, his passport, and a dead body. douglas was friends with troy castigar, one of three men seen in a propaganda video for the al qaeda affiliate in somalia known as al shabaab. he died fighting in somalia two years ago. now more than ten young men from the minneapolis area are now believed to be in syria fighting alongside isis, jon. >> it sounds like there's a pattern here. >> reporter: well, the former chairman of house homeland security committee investigated the minneapolis connection four years ago and told fox today there is a pattern.
12:04 pm
>> clear and convincing evidence then that there was a pipeline from minneapolis to islamic jihad overseas. and that people in the community knew about, it and people in the community were covering it up. >> with social media, the message has spread far beyond minneapolis. earlier this year, a suicide bomber from florida destroyed his american passport as part a farewell in martyrdom video. and in a letter obtained by fox news by the ft. hood shooter's attorney, he's written to the leader of isis asking to join the cal fate. "it would be an honor for any believer to be an obedient citizen soldier to a people and its leader who don't compromise the religion of almighty allah to get along with the disbelievers." hasan's attorney said the letter is more evidence of his extreme beliefs which should have been fully explored during his trial, jon. >> catherine from washington, thank you. former fbi investigator bill

daly is here. he's managing director at the national security consulting firm control risk. we don't seem to have any idea exactly how many of these people, how many of these americans have gone over to syria. >> it's not just the americans, but we also have right now scores and probably in the hundreds of people either from france, germany, and the u.k. who may also be alongside of some of these americans. >> and the big concern is what happens when they come back. >> the big concern is that all these people, we perceive as having passports that can take them from one place to another easily and can kind of come into the united states and leave and go where they want pretty freely. that is really one of the goals that the terrorists would like to have is people can move across the borders freely, who blend in with the population, who can then carry that -- that jihadism over the border into the u.s. and commit an act. >> so how do you stop it? they don't necessarily have to fly in to damascus or oaleppo, they could get to syria from any number of countries.
12:06 pm
if they're coming here, how do we know based on their passport? >> that's one of the challenges. that's what we're focusing on, who's here, who is over there, and trying to watch when they return. when they come through normal passport control channels. of course, there are parts of the border that are porous which gives us concern. but that's what intelligence intelligence are looking at. we found out the other day that some terrorists when they travel may take cruise ships to the region and go off and never return. there is not like people traveling maybe to an airport and then deciding to go over land into syria. these people are looking at all kinds of ways to get into the theater of war. the concern is how do they make themselves get back and what do they do when they come back? >> monitoring or trying to track these people becomes the duty of your old agency, the fbi. what are they -- must be giving them headaches trying to figure out how to find some of these people. >> it is a challenge. the various joint terrorism task forces set up across the country are looking at this. they're looking for the community to help them and
12:07 pm
inform them when they think that people have gone missing or may have traveled overseas into these various theaters. again, the biggest concern is not so much the ones we know, we can try track them. it's the ones we don't know. and all we need is to have one person who has intent on doing soming when they come back or influence others when they return and carry out a terrorist act here at the homeland. >> we know they will be somewhat more brainwashed, they will have seen atrocious things over there. and perhaps be more willing to engage in that kind of thing here. >> we also know for a fact that some places give them training. they're training not just to fight in those particular theaters, you know, conflict, but what other things to carry out in a terrorist manner. >> explosives? >> explosives, how to use home made devices, how to concoct things. the old adage, from your mother's kitchen, they know how to do these things. it's also people here who are influenced. we talk about isis and being the catch phrase and name out there. it's unfortunate that a lot of
12:08 pm
people looking for an identity will attach themselves to a cause like this, who will be in vitroly encouraged to become terrorists -- virtually encouraged to become terrorists and would leave their country. >> what a story. thank you. the pilot of a charter aetna crashed in virginia is still missing more than 24 hours after that jet went down. we're finding out more about the crash and the desperate efforts to find that pilot coming up. nobody ever stomped their foot and asked for less. there's a reason it's called an "all you can eat" buffet... and not a "have just a little" buffet. because what we all really want is more. that's why verizon is giving you even more. now, for a limited time, get more data! 1 gb of bonus data every month with every new smartphone or upgrade. our best ever pricing with the more everything plan and 50% off all new smartphones. like the htc one m8

equipped hc-130 aircraft, assigned to moody air force base in georgia. this aircraft has equipment designed specifically for search and rescue operations. approximately ten search and rescue teams are on the ground searching along logging roads, fire trails, and forest roads." the jet went down around 9:00 yesterday morning. jon? >> such a strange story. what else do we know about this flight? >> reporter: the pilot was flying the jet from massachusetts to the new orleans naval air station for a "scheduled modification." it was an f-15c jet, single seat, no munitions on board for this flight. authorities say the f-15cs are older jets and going through a modernization program. this jet was headed to louisiana to get a new radar system installed. now we know the pilot had enough time to recognize there was an emergency and report it to a nearby tower before the crash. searchers are hoping that may mean the pilot also could have

yet according to the ukrainians, nato, and the u.s., there is no doubt that russia has invaded ukraine. a live look here at the understanding security council. it's holding an -- the united nations security council. it's holding an emergency meeting. here's what the u.s. ambassador to the u.n. said moments ago. >> russia has to stop lying and has to stop fueling this conflict. the mask is coming off. in these acts, these recent acts, we see russia's actions for what they are, a deliberate effort to support and now fight alongside illegal separatist in another sovereign country. >> russia's ambassador to the united nations called on washington to "stop interfering in the crisis." a top ukrainian official says two columns of russian tanks and military vehicles have rolled in to southeastern ukraine, and top nato officials say 1,000 russian troops have also poured across the border. the ukrabfy& russian tank inside their territory.
12:20 pm
nato reports satellite images show the soldiers and russian artillery in ukrainian territory, as well. the associated press reports russia's military has control over a ukrainian border town that lies along a major road to crimea. vladimir putin is trying to build a land bridge to his new territory after he claims he annexed it in march. meantime, nato has called for an emergency meeting tomorrow. ukraine's president has urged his country's people to remain calm. let's talk about it with michael sing, managing director of the washington institute. he is also a former senior director for middle eastern affairs at the national security council. michael, russia seem to have invaded a sovereign country, and so far, they're getting away with it. what's the rest of the world going to do or say about all this? >> well, jon, you're right. it's a serious escalation by russia. it's not an unexpected one. the ukrainian forces were making headway against the separatists, the rebels. i think putin has made clear he
12:21 pm
simply won't allow kiev to prevail militarily, and he's willing to go to the mat to ensure that it's not able to do so. you're absolutely right. the response from the west has not so far deterred him. and i think we need to see a new strategy coming from the united states, nato, and our allies in europe. >> that's the problem. you say that -- well, the russians -- the russians imported rebels, the ukrainian government was doing a pretty good job of handling them. the prime minister of the country, ukraine, said they had that under control. so the russians decided to send in their own forces. listen. >> we can confirm that russian military boots are on ukrainian ground. ukrainian forces are capable to tackle and to cope with the russian-led guerillas. but this is quite difficult for us to fight with russia and its
12:22 pm
army. >> they could handle the guerillas but can't take on the much more powerful soviet army. what about the sanctions that the u.s. imposed? are those not having an effect? not deterring putin at all? >> well, it's also important to note that it's not just the military effect that russia's having on ukraine. ukraine's also being tripled economically. look, you know, putin is pursuing this strategy that's being called hybrid war or limited war where he tries to take steps which he then denies, which he then claims he's not taking. and he's trying to control the pace of the conflict. and basically to generate only a limited response from the west. i thin west needs to do is really increase its response, to increase the sanctions against russia, to provide more military assistance in various forms to ukraine. and also to bolster the defenses of those nato countries, for example, the baltics, to deter russia from taking steps there. so i think unless russia sees that there's a limited war approach that it's taking has two to be great a cost, i think
12:23 pm
-- taking has too great a cost, i think he might keep hold of that territory in ukraine. >> winner's coming on. as long as russia has the keys to ukraine's natural gas supply, it could be a fierce and a long winter for that country. >> well, that's absolutely right. putin here i think will be willing to use tools that go beyond just those tank and artillery. but highway he has economic too energy supplies which he uses to threat not not just ukraine but europe which depends on russian energy, and so that also has to, i think, be part of the western strategy. how do you break that dependence, that -- not just ukraine but europe has on russian energy supplies. >> michael sing, michael, thank you. and just a sidenote, we put under the title of -- that piece of sound came from the prime minister -- rather we said it came from the russian ambassador. that was actually the prime minister of ukraine who was complaining about russian forces in his country.

analysts say the crisis in ukraine is dragging down stock markets here in the united states. take a look at the dow. it is not looking so good today. but we did get some other good financial news. the commerce department reports the economy grew at a rate of 4.2% from april to june, faster than the feds had predicted. the labor department reports new jobless claims dropped for the second straight week to just under 300,000. president obama getting ready to meet with his national security team to decide how to tackle the threat from the islamic state. whether more air strikes are in order. plus, word hackers may have snatched account information from customers at one of america's largest banks.

smith. president obama will meet in the situation room in the next hour and will meat with members of the national security team. the state department confirms they'll talk about u.s. efforts to combat the islamist state. this comes as the "daily beast" website report the president wants to decide by the end of the week whether to attack islamic militants in syria. ed henry live at the white house. what can we expect out of the making and the president's statement? >> reporter: we were expecting from aides that the president will be dealing with what's twin crises now. not just dealing with isis in iraq and syria and the growth there, the spread of this terrorist threat, the potential they could come to the u.s. with western passports, as well. but the situation in ukraine that you've been talking about, as well, what is basically a russian invasion. traps, tanks, going in to ukrainian territory. an emergency meeting at the u.n. security council about that. we're told the president will be talking about both of these with his national security team inside the us when situation

room just after 4:00 p.m. the breaking news, before the making on, his way in, the president will be in the press briefing room, a half-hour from now, give us a heads up on what he's expecting to hear. what i think that also tells us is the fact that the president is speaking before the meeting. particularly on the isis point of this, means this is not going to be a decision meeting. the president obviously is not going to come out and say "i'm authorizing air strikes into syria" before he has a meeting from his team go b what they think he should -- team about what they think he should do. this is more likely to be a statement, maybe questions, maybe not from reporters. the president saying, i'm going to get the latest, we'll figure it out in the days ahead. i think this suggests the president is buying more time before authorizing the -- potentially authorizing any air strike into syria, jon. >> yeah. it was back in january the president was comparing isis to a j.v. team. how big a threat is this group? >> reporter: it's a big dispute even now. you've seen the last few days
12:32 pm
various officials saying different things, where it was defense succeed chuck hagel last week suggesting isis is a bigger threat than al qaeda before 9/11. the lane from the white house podium this week has suggested maybe not as big a threat as has been suggested. republicans think the president with that j.v. comment you mentioned has underestimated the threat for too long. while at the stated department they were trying to massage all this. listen. >> strength of isil has built. this is a threat that we look at as one that threatens western interests, that could threaten the interests of the united states. so it's a different scenario than what we were looking at a year ago. >> our fear here is that this notion that if we just don't do anything everything is going to be okay is going to continue. this is as dangerous a threat matrix as i have ever seen in my time on the intel committee. >> reporter: chilling comment for the chairman of the house committee to say this is the
12:33 pm
worst threat matrix, most serious one he's seen in a decade. doesn't mean attacks are going to be able to be implemented and pushed forward but these terrorists, but it suggests there's real fear inside the u.s. government right now about what's happening, jon. >> ed henry at the white house. ed, thank you. cops arrested the sister of the accused boston marathon bombers yesterday for making a bomb threat herself. police in new york say elena tsarnaev called her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend saying, "i have people that can go over there and put a bomb on you." that boyfriend and ex reportedly had a child together and are in the middle of a custody battle. back in april of this year, the feds say the two tsarnaev brothers planted bomb near the finish line at the boston marathon killing three people and injuring hundreds more. afterwards, investigators launched a massive manhunt. one of the brothers has died in a shoot-out with police. the other is awaiting trial and could face the death penalty. laura engle live in our new york newsroom now. laura, how did this all come about? >> reporter: hi, jon.
12:34 pm
the tsarnaev sibling apparently used her brothers' alleged boston marathon bombings to her advantage to scare the mother of her boyfriend's child. officials confirming to fox news that tsarnaev was arrested in new york city yesterday on one count of aggravated harassment after she allegedly made the threat against her boyfriend's ex in a phone call. elena tsarnaev has been in hot water before. she appeared in a massachusetts court in october of 2013 on charges connected to an investigation into the use of counterfeit money. elena tsarnaev lives in new jersey but turned herself in to authorities in harlem which is where her boyfriend's ex lives. >> what happens next? >> reporter: she's going to have answer the charges next month. tsarnaev was issued a desk appearance ticket and is to return to court september 30th. she was released from harlem's station house after she was charged. the threatening call is considered a misdemeanor offense. because she has a valid i.d. and doesn't have warrants, she is allowed to go home.
12:35 pm
an nypd spokesperson tells me there is no record of tsarnaev making these types of threats in the past and that the call made this week was not recorded. this will be another check-in with the law for the sister of the tsarnaev brothers who has only been in the u.s. since 2003 when she came here with her brother, tom lynn, and sister bella. she's been required to check in with massachusetts probation officers since last october in that counterfeiting investigation. >> laura ingle, thank you. the feds now investigating a possible cyberattack targeting at least five american banks including the nation's largest, jpmorgan chase. that's according to multiple news outlets. attackers reportedly stole large amounts of computer data including customers' account information. bloomberg news reports the fbi is looking into whether this was the work of russian hackers in retaliation for recent u.s. economic sanctions again russia. jpmorgan has not confirmed that. a spokesman says the investigators are still looking into it. the bank serves more than 30

173,000 kids were injured, had brain injuries of in some sort last year alone. there's focus, but it's misguided. why do i say that? unlike the nfl where there were accusations that the nfl knew that the helmets were not protecting the players, the allegation, we denied that. if this is focusing on the methodology that these kids are playing, plus the fact that the parents are the ones, the parents and guardians are the ones that truly understand their kids' limitations. if you think your child's been injured, you say to the coach, pull my child off the court. we're not dealing with equipment. we're not dealing with anything that's unknown. we're dealing with just good parental care when it comes to your child. >> that's the thing. so many charparents have become concerned about the injuries they perceive are involved with youth football. say -- they say, johnny, play soccer instead, now they're finding soccer isn't free of problems either. >> that's true. amongst the 173,000 kids, there were kids playing soccer, not just football and some other
