spoke to reporters in atlanta. he's set to race for the first time in three weeks following the crash that took the life of kevin ward junior. jonathan, what did he say? >> reporter: tony stewart returns to racing on sunday night. he said the august ninety-ninth accident weighs heavyy on his heart and delivered prepared remarks to the the reporters. listen to what he had to say about the accident. >> this is one of the toughest tragedies i had to deal with professionally and personally and this is something that will affect my life forever. this is a sadness and a pain that i hope that no one has to experience in their lives. >> and this weekend, will mark the first time the three- time champion has been racing since august 9th, when he was involved

in a fatal accident. when which took place in new york. he was vying for position and 20-year-old driver kevin ward junior crashed and appeared to be trying to confront his opponent in the middle of the dirt track. and stewart's car struck ward who was pronounced dead at the hospital. the driver sent sympathy catchered and family and would allow family time to grieve before meeting with them in person and would not comment on the accident investigation because it is ongoing. nas-car created a rule requiring drivers to stay in the vehicles until safety crews escort them out unless they are in danger of fire. big news tony stewart is returning to the sport. sunday night will be the first race. back to you. >> thank you, johnathon.

administrators are taking the extra steps screening students from west africa nations. dr. london is a practicing family physician and sits on the board of new york doctors for america. there are as i understand, 10,000 students from the 3 or 4 countries in africa that the ebola virus is under way. >> they have been screened in their airports and borders and to get people the virus that is not easily transmitted. there needs to be close contact. i think it is a little bit of an overkill, but if my child fls sharing a room from an exchange student i would be concerned. it is not a big deal to say let's monitor your temperature. >> you say it is difficult to

well, "old ironsides" will take to the waves for the last time before coming in for a long overhaul. the "uss constitution" sets sail today from her dock in boston. the constitution is the world's oldest commissioned warship launched during john adams' administration more than 200 years ago. beginning this fall, the constitution will be laid up in dry dock for a three-year renovation project. but she's keeping busy till the last minute. crews spent the week training 150 navy officers on sailing techniques, used over the centuries. >> wow. pretty neat, too, in boston harbor at least you used to be able to tour it. >> nice to know she's still floating. news out of florida. wildlife officials there in florida are hailing a program to save the panther population. they say it is a major success.

conservationists say that thanks to a new breeding program, the number of panthers in southern florida has more than quadrupled over the past 15 years. we go live from the panther national wildlife refuge in florida. didn't know it existed. hi, phil. >> hi, heather. this is where they live. florida is now realizing the direct, yet unfortunate consequence every time the government reintroduces a predator to its natural habitat, that's a loss of livestock and even pets. the florida panther rebounding in numbers is so stealthy and elusive, there could be one 20 feet away and we'd have no idea. there are many cameras stationed throughout the panther refuge providing the proof that the panthers on the verge of extinction just 20 years ago have rapidly rebounded, going from 20 or 25 florida panthers left to just under 200 now roaming southwest florida today.

that's still small, there used to be 3,000 panthers in the state, however, it's large enough now to be felt by cattle ran ranchers. 5% of newborn calves are now disappearing every year to the claws and jaws of panthers. >> cattle are our biggest asset. they're very valuable. and that's like taking money off the bottom line for a rancher whenever they lose their calves. >> reporter: supporting a u.s. fish and wildlife service payout plan which would help offset the cost of the panthers' success. one beef cow can earn you about $1,000 to your family income. panthers have no predators and the two leading causes of death right now are other male territorial panthers as well as vehicles driven by humans. that just happened last week to two 4-month-old kittens found
