education. are there medications? the school needs to know. >> absolutely. >> all the shots that we had in the past. >> this is about kids going to school and get the hearing. the visual test is all done and now we get to the stuff that when i grow up, i hated going to school. summer was fun and i had a day of anxiety. it's always good to team up with a friend of yours to make the first week easy and get rid of the heavy backpacks that you have. >> the kids's backs get ruined. >> is there a way? should they be weighed some. >> it's usually less than 20% of

black box. the canadians are putting in microphones in the operating rooms and multiple cameras all over the operating room and they are taping the process. interaction of the surgeon with the staff. what goes on in the operating room. how do you handle the organs? the reason for this is to reduce the number of complications and to make the surgery smaller, but to use the video to educate the next generation of surgeons. do you go in the operating room and learn or do you practice outside? when we grew up, there was a conat the present time of do one, see one, teach one. you start doing it and you become a professional. that time has come and gone. i think they have the black box that you go back and find out what you learn.

they take it and they go back. how do you become better? that's what this is about. there issues in the early part of the study, but one of the things i have done to cut down we did this years ago. that's how we came up with this technique. that has been efficient. you don't want to practice. you want to come in and do the operation where there simulators. they will talk about this. the pilots are not going to learn how to fly the plane where they have the passengers. you have the simulators. you take the mrri of the kidney or the prostate. you practice outside the operating room so when you come in, you are efficient and you do the surgery. >> what about the legal issue? >> that's the other side of the coin. let's go to the videotape. is it a foul or a fair ball?

they are using the lap scope with this. they had another camera looking down. the view from above. they found about 20 mistakes per operation that were missed otherwise. if you use this for pier review, you could peach residents the health care quality of improvement who had that kind of information to answer your question. if it's for pier review, it can't be used legally. it's going to say wait a minute, why shouldn't i have access to that? if we ask the patients, they want to know what goes wrong. this is a very debatable issue. i agree that the number one purpose is teaching to learn from mistakes. by the way, somebody who comes outpost op, you may not know why it goes wrong. somebody accidentally punctures

the lining of the spine. if we go back to the operation, you can see where that happened. there is a great advantage with learning. >> we had the m&m. morbidity and mortality. they look at why one complication happens. if you have the video of that surgery, you can look and see this is what happens for learning purposes. improving our surgical skills. robotic and laproscopicer the same pathways. these have been tremendous and it works well. >> whatever helps. coming up, some women describe it more painful than childbirth. kidney stones. why are they painful and how do we make sure we don't get them. the doctors will fill us in on kidney stones after the break. . and back now to >> back now to sunday house call. it can be caused by dehydration or genetics. if you get kidney stones, it can be a horrible experience. what are they and why are they painful? how to make sure you don't get them. how do we not get kidney stones. is it possible? >> what are they? they are a build up of calcium or mag need yum and things that crystallize in the arteries or in the bladder. you get stones in either one. what causes them, it's interesting. back in the 1970s, less than 4% of people have them. now 12% of women and 7% of women. why the increase? because things are heating up. you get them more in the summer. in july and august. people are not hydrated enough. people are not drinking enough.

one of the top kidney experts are saying have lemon and lime. if you use a lot of lemon and lime and hydration, you can cut down on your risk dramatically. you want to avoid fatty and salty. you want to avoid -- that's the most common kidney stone. you want to avoid calcium and drink a lot of water and it's genetic. watch out if someone in your family had them. >> what do they feel like. is it stabbing pains? it's going to happen to me. >> a lot of women say it's more painful than childbirth. >> the reason why is you can explain it easily. you would have a crystal in the kid me. >> like your side? >> exactly. you have it on the right and the left side. if you have a stone here, this

stone as long as it kids in the kidney and doesn't obstruct anything, you won't have a pain. if you have fluid going through it it, it starts to block the kidney. you are going to get that severe pain that is worse than childbirth. until it passes all wait through the bladder and then you push it out hopefully. it's a rule of five millimeter stone has a 50% chance of passing and the bigger the stone gets, the lower the chance. with medications like hydration and muscle relax ants, that stone will pass. sometimes shock therapy or we go in surgically to remove the stone. you have to stay away from some of the foods that he just mentioned. lime or lemon has sit rate and that inhibits these crystals.

we'll give you $150. comcast business. built for business. welcome back to sunday house call. now for should i worry? our segment about everything that worries us. this viewer asked i am diabetic, but i love fruit. should i worry? >> the simple answer is no, you should not worry. fruits are great for you, but the question is what kind of fruit and how much are you going to be taking? you have a lot of fructose causes inflammation and chronic diabetes and inflammation. there is a study that was done with 190,000 people follow them for about 20 years. they took two portions to three

servings of certain fruits like apples and grapes and raspberries and avocado. all of those had the reduction of 27% in the risk of diabetes. choose what you eat and pick the right fruits and they actually can reduce the diabetes. if you think of other fruits and too much of it, then you will hurt yourself. >> you have to worry about juices too. monitor it. monitor it. sugar. you are going to get all of your insulin and that is not good. >> all fruit is not created equal. stay away from pineapples and mel lops with a last sugar. some of the others -- apples and pears and cherries -- have low-calories, less than in juice, by the way, but, also, they are loaded with fiber.

and we love to look at the studies, 33 people studied over six weeks and the author says to the "new york times" and i quote, "i almost never eat breakfast." if the study author never eats breakfast, he clearly is not an unbiased scientist. a much larger study looking at 27,000 men over 16 years last year showed a 27 percent increase of heart disease if people who do skip breakfast. what you do, you start your day with exercise as i have aid on the show many times -- water, some kind of a breakfast. not fats and carbohydrates but pruett and protein and yogurt. >> isn't it about the individual, how all of our me tappisms are different? >> 100 percent right. the purpose of the study was the point you just made. not everyone is the same. if it works for you to go on and delay your breakfast to 10:00 or
