hey, everybody. good morning. today is sunday, the 7th of september, 2014. i'm an anywayna kooiman. the president is delaying action on immigration untilz
3:01 am
and one team makes the catch of a lifetime. a swordfish weighed almost 700 pounds. that's no fish tale. he will be here, is he going to bring the fish? it could get stinky in here. "fox and friends" begins right now. how do you catch a fish like that? it would be like old man out on the sea. >> i think it may take a while. >> your back would hurt. >> he's going to be here live at the end of the hour. >> what a great show this is. >> we have gourmutt street here.
3:02 am
it's a gourmet truck but for dogs. >> so the economy is recovering, you're saying. >> must be. more on your headlines this sunday morning. in just a few hours, family and friends of comedy legend joan rivers will gather to say good-bye. the private memorial taking place inside a manhattan synagogue is expected to be a literal red carpet affair. the princeton carpet will be laid out during the service and reportedly be buried alongside rivers. the funeral comes as the nypd opens an investigation into rivers' death. detectives are looking into the endoscopy center where she stopped breathing a week ago. her autopsy is pending. wreckage crews are finding wreckage from a plane that crashed near jamaica. however, the debris field has now disappeared into the water. crews will be back out this

chuck todd he explained why. listen. >> when i take executive action, i want to be sure it is sustainable. i want to be sure -- >> if the public is not behind you, you're not taking it. it sounds like you are concerned the public wouldn't support what you did. >> what i'm saying is that i'm going to act because it's the right thing for the country, but it's going to be more sustainable and more effective if the public understands what the facts are on immigration, what we've done on unaccompanied children and why it's necessary. and the truth of the matter is that the politics did shift mid-summer because of that problem. >> so you're hearing the president admitting the politics shifted. and the politics shifting is democrats calling up the president, senators like kay hagan from north carolina in a tight senate race saying, don't take executive action. it's going to hurt my chances of re-election. >> we've heard the last couple of weeks about senators who are
3:06 am
vulnerable in the midterm elections saying, please don't come to our state. i don't want to be seen with you or associated with you, so we are calling them no-flyover states. so it is political on the democratic side, but the president, of course, is still finding a way to blame republicans. here's what a white house official says, because of the republicans' extreme po politicization of the issue, the president believes it would be harmful to the policy itself and to the long-term prospects for comprehensive immigration reform to announce. >> i can't believe we are going to bring in millions more low-wage workers and that's going to be great for you at home. i can't wait for that. it's terrible for the economy. it's good for a small group of people. for the democratic party, it's
3:07 am
good for those who employ low-wage workers, but how is it good for you? it's not. >> find an economist that would agree not having an immigration policy is a good idea. this is the perfect time to act on it. there are still 400,000 cases backlogged right now the immigration court. and jim johnson went down to the court to say the cases would be taken care of, the people coming across the border would be sent back and face judges, 400,000 backlogged, how are they going to face judges? they aren't. >> it is not worth trying. build a wall, they build a ladder. in nigeria we are weighing to me skewer the border. in israel we funded the border, which has been a great success. and now we are sending u.s. tax dollars to nigeria to secure
3:08 am
their border. >> the terrorist group there has been attacking villages in nigeria coming across the border from cameroon. they are taking the fight to cameroon. so now the u.s. is involved in helping to secure the nigerian board tore make sure that islamic terrorists don't cross the border into nigeria, but we can't do that here. >> how masochistic are we to spend all this money to help other people but won't help ourselves? president obama is finally addressing the growing isis problem in a speech this week as the terror group strikes overnight. we'll go to peter doocy live in washington with the latest. >> in a few days we should know exactly what president obama thinks the united states can do to squash isis. the president has taken a ton of heat for his public declaration of the united states having no strategy for combatting isis in syria where they are plotting
3:09 am
and planning and strengthening, unbothered by the west. the united states has been flying surveillance missions over syria to get a feel for places he's known since working and living, and to see what kind of firepower they've got. but there could be more. in a new report from abc news, the president will make his speech this week containing new details. now, this comes as the pentagon continues to pound isis from above and iraq. specifically in the western part of the country around the hadifa dam. including the latest assault, the u.s. has carried out 138 strikes in iraq since isis started causing problems. today's strike took out five humvees. >> peter doocy in washington, thank you. rick reichmuth is standing by with the forecast. he is over in the weather center. hey, rick. >> did the lights just come on?
3:10 am
>> i did. and he's 6 feet away. >> we have a few weather centers, this is just one of them. temperaturewise, i'm sure you were aware a storm went through last night. >> yeah, it woke us up. >> and the temperatures are much better, less humid. big changes this week. this is one of the summer transition weeks, summer to fall, far lot of people. fall is not here for good, but it will feel like fall at times. down across the southeast, we have a little disturbance here. a broad situation where you are going to continue to watch to see potentially for some more strengthening of it. i don't think we'll see a tropical system, but there's a lot of moisture, nonetheless, especially on the outer banks of the carolinas to get rain this week. down there is still hurricane norbert funneling more moisture into the southwest so that monsoon season across the southwest is getting an extra kick from that. here's the temperatures. take a look at that blue. that's what we are talking about, temperatures tomorrow, into tuesday and wednesday is the day the real cool air
