you're holding your newborn baby. your young toddler son is in there with you. you're knowing that you have been sentenced to die. how did you deal with that? >> monday night see -- welcome to "hannity." tonight for the entire hour i'm going to be joined by a distinguished and lively studio audience. we're going to be focusing on the fight against radical islam and what it means for the safety of our homeland. but before we bring in our guests, this week marked a big turning point, specifically when it comes to the isis terror network. now, the cia said today that the number of isis fighters could be as many as 31,500, which is three times previous estimates. now, after we watched the group ravage through iraq and syria attempting to create their caliphate and inflict mass genocide on minorities and
7:01 pm
christians, behead two innocent americans and threaten our homeland. president obama addressed the nation wednesday night and he detailed his strategy, which he didn't have two weeks ago, on how he plans to degrade and destroy these terrorists. >> first, we will conduct a systematic campaign of air strikes against these terrorists. second, we will increase our support to forces fighting these terrorists on the ground. in june i deemployeed several hundred american service members to iraq to assess how we can best support iraqi security forces. now that those teams have completed their work and iraq has formed a government, we will send an additional 475 service members to iraq. across the border in syria we have ramped up our military assistance to the syrian opposition. third, we will continue to draw on our substantial counterterrorism capabilities to prevent isil attacks. fourth, we will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to innocent civilians who've been displaced by this terrorist
7:02 pm
organization. >> although the president reiterated that this will not be a combat mission in iraq, he's sending 475 additional service members to the country bringing the total number of u.s. troops in iraq to about 1,600, which by the way is the highest since he pulled them out in 2011. now the commander in chief also authorized the pentagon to target and kill the leaders of isis and put self-proclaimed leader al baghdadi at the top of the list. the question remains, will the president's strategy work? good to see everybody. a lot of bright distinguished people here. let me go through what the president said and his staff. they said john kerry and susan rice that this is not going to be a war. we're not at war with isis. we also have josh earnest said when asked about how do we define victory said i don't have my dictionary with me. then we had the president say isis is not a state, but they now have more land mass than the size of belgium since the land they acquired in both syria and
7:03 pm
iraq. and the president said they have no vision. i argue that they do have a vision. steve emerson, i think the vision is what we saw in mosul, which is convert or die. the desire for an islamic caliphate. who's right, me or president obama? that's a hard one. >> well, i'm on your show, so obviously you're right. but the bottom line is islamic supre supremacy has been for -- not for all muslims but the bottom line in the last century since the rise of the muslim brotherhood in which isis actually was created its roots go back a hundred years. we've seen the muslim brotherhood, we've seen hamas, hezbollah, al qaeda, now we see isis, they all want to rule the world. and the caliphate is the chief prize. >> sunni, shia, doesn't matter, destroy israel, destroy the west and advance this convert or die
7:04 pm
philosophy. >> there have been other brutal caliphates in islamic history. >> that's true. we can go back to the 600 a.d., right? >> we can go back to 614. we can go back to the -- but even al qaeda has not been as brutal. yet they have -- you know, look, it's all relative. al qaeda killed 3,000 people, you know, in 2001. the reality is this fwrup here knows how to use the media and propagate its fear and exaggerate it. >> let me go to david webb. david webb, if there's no definition of victory, if the islamic state is not islamic, which the president said, if he thinks they're not a state and they don't have a vision and he doesn't recognize the caliphate, is this right to fight a war that we say is not a war? >> first of all, the pentagon disagrees with him because the pentagon classifies it as a war on isis. no matter what words or what description the president wants to use, the reality is we're engaged in a war because they are at war with us.
7:05 pm
the question is do we decide to fight them properly, not an overseas contingency operation, not a man-caused disaster. >> not workplace violence. >> right. not a real enemy who has tentacles that reach all over the world to 3,000-plus passports that are european and british passports, american passports, let's not kid ourselves. we have soft targets all over the lower 48, all over the world. >> the 9/11 commission report said they were at war with us, we're not at war with them. john kerry, susan rice say we're not at war with isis, but yet the president announced this military endeavor. are they at war with us? are we not at war with them? if we're not at war, why are we engaging in what we're doing? >> what you're describing in these administration's statements is a lack of resolve, sean. i think the american people would be willing to support obama in going after the islamic state if he's going to exercise some resolve.
7:06 pm
but when you're eager to advertise to your adversaries what you're not going to do, you're not exercising resolve. and that's the problem that the administration has right now. >> what do you think? >> well, as a young person on the panel tonight -- >> go ahead, rub it. >> no, what i'm saying -- >> all the old guys on this panel -- >> no, as far as the anti-israel support among young people and what we're seeing this whole connection with israel and seeing a president really not defending israel. and then we're watching him say that, you know, the islamic state of iraq and syria is not -- it's not a religion apparently that condones the killing of innocents, but all these killings, beheadings, murders, 3,000 people 13 years ago yesterday were murdered in the name of allah. so i have a problem when he gets up there and says that and then doesn't defend israel. he's saying this isn't a war and something you shouldn't be concerned about. >> i think you raise a good point. how many agree with the president that the islamic state
7:07 pm
is not isic? does anybody agree with that? >> actually, i do. >> you do? anyone else? you're the only one. >> i'll tell you why. hi. every of the big three, judaism, christianity and islam, not terrorist, anybody who just murders disobeys the ten commandments, all religions subscribe to. we have to be very careful. we do not want the world of people of victims of this group -- they are -- >> are they at war with us? >> i think the word war we have to be very careful, again, we do not want the people of iraq to perceive that we are going to war with iraq or going to war with syria. >> they beheaded two americans, said we'll see you in new york and raise the flag of islam in our white house. is that a war against america? i think that's a war. >> isis is not a country --
7:08 pm
>> but the president says we're going to degrade and destroy -- hang on. if the president says we're going to degrade and destroy, isn't he saying we're going to war? and isn't this counterterrorism mantra and talking point just to get out of the legal ramifications of having congress declare war? >> i wouldn't disagree with that. i wouldn't disagree with that. but i think it all has to do with messaging. i think it also has to do with messaging. you don't want iraqis and syrians perceiving we're going to war with them, we're going to war with their country, we have to be clear if you want to say a war, war against terror. >> i've got news for you, f-16s aren't messaging, guns and bullets aren't messaging, tanks and beheadings -- by the way it's not really about the two journalists as much as that's a tragedy, there's a wider issue here on what goes on in the muslim world between the radical regimes and the radicals. whether it's beheadings, stoning of gays, women who don't have
7:09 pm
rights, we've got to look at what we're dealing with radicalism and a rising militancy which by the way seeks to expand. and they all unite in their hatred of anyone who doesn't agree with them. >> former cia operative, can you win a war if you don't declare war? can you win a war just through air strikes? military people are telling me you can't. >> you absolutely can't. you cannot. >> you cannot. >> you have not defined the enemy. i think the most atrocious thing here is the president's words the impact on our soldiers, on our intelligence, all right? all of these words have impacts. they don't just impact the enemy, and they do, but what about our people? if you're going to put one of my brethren from the 75th ranger regimen in baghdad, are they at war? are they going to be shot at? to them they are. >> how many think -- i want to show, how many think the president is afraid to use the
7:10 pm
term terrorism and islamic radical terrorism? you do not think so? you do think so? >> yes, i do. >> you do not think so? >> i do think -- >> you do not think so. >> i will say this, sean, you asked jason probably the most important question which is the definition of victory according to this white house. and up until this point their definition of victory was withdrawal. it was retreat. now because of the reality on the ground in syria, in iraq and throughout the middle east, they're re-evaluating it because the american public opinion is telling them this has to stop. >> but this is political. >> this is not leadership -- exactly. this is not leadership. this is a political reaction. >> his use of language isn't angled with domestic politics. >> everybody agree with that? >> you're talking about a president -- >> i tell you what, we've got to take a break. coming up our studio audience has a lot more to stay. we're just getting started tonight. up next, president obama says isis is not islamic. his administration also claims we're not at war with this group. we're going to explain how
7:11 pm
exactly what is he thinking and what type of language is this. and have we now gotten to the point we can't mention the word radical islamic terrorist? and if we've gotten to that point, how do we fight that straight ahead. s holly. her long day of outdoor adventure starts with knee pain. and a choice. take 6 tylenol in a day or just 2 aleve for all day relief. onward!

7:13 pm
welcome back to "hannity." the obama white house has a long
7:14 pm
history of underestimating the threat posed by radical islam. to classifying ft. hood and the terror attack there as workplace violence, all the evidence is clear. sadly this trend continued this week. on wednesday the president could not bring himself to link isis, which is islamic state of iraq and syria, to islam. take a look. >> isil is not islamic. no religion condones the killing of innocence. and the vast majority of isil's victims have been muslim. >> and also this week the president, his secretary of state john kerry, they refuse to even admit that the u.s. is at war with isis. look at this. >> this counterterrorism campaign will be waged through a steady, relentless effort to take out isil wherever they exist using our air power. >> is the united states at war with isis? it sure sounds from the president's speech that we are. >> i think that's the wrong terminology. what we are doing is engaging in
7:15 pm
a very significant counterterrorism operation. >> and susan rice said the exact same thing. and it gets worse. now when asked to define what an american victory over isis would look like? chief white house propaganda josh earnest said this. >> what does a victory look like here? i mean, you've talked about destroying isil, i honestly don't know what that means. what does it mean? >> i didn't bring my webster's dictionary up here. >> oh, come on. >> well, you know. >> talking about that -- >> i think that's a prett illustrative phrase to use to describe the situation that we envision. >> and back to our audience for reaction. kt, you worked for ronald reagan. when i think of victory i think of winston churchill. victory, blood, toil, sweat and tears, that sort of thing. victory on the land, sea, air, full victory. >> uh-huh. >> when i think of the bombing of britain, i think about dresdon and i don't remember leaflets being dropped before
7:16 pm
great britain defended itself. i remember cities being decimated. is now every war going to be fought through the prism of political correctness? >> i've worked for presidents who have been successful in using force overseas and some who have been unsuccessful. and the successful ones have clarity of mission, they are sufficient in fact overwhelming force brought to bear. and they know what victory looks like before they enter. and when they get victory, they leave. and they're not entering war because they're not sure what else to do or because they want to get a boost in the polls. they go in because they have an enemy. they defeat that enemy. they get out. what the president is doing is resting his whole plan on a successful iraqi government, which hasn't even been formed yet, finding syrian rebels, haven't been identified yet, a coalition which hasn't even been assembled yet. when that fails, there is no plan b. and that's what worries me. he is committing the united states to a war whether he wants to call it a war or not, and he has no idea how he's going to fight that war or when that war and the united states cannot
7:17 pm
afford another war that we do not succeed in. >> you know, i wonder how unfair it is if you are the mother and father 4,000 americans, the cost, the blood, the death, the injuries that these guys sustained only to watch city after city that they fought, bled and died for go into the hands of isis, which president bush himself predicted would happen. amsly, from a reporter's perspective, let me ask you. is the media doing their job? demanding what victory is? demanding how he plans to win this war? asking tough questions about politics being involved in decision make sng. >> i think fox news might be the only network that's doing that, sean. because we've been pretty tough. we've gone after him. and i think we should. we need to hold him accountable. we're hearing no strategy. he's exchanging gitmo detainees for somebody who doesn't even want to be an american. it's just time and time again over the last few weeks we've been reporting all of these
7:18 pm
mistakes that we feel like he's making. he doesn't want to call it a war because he wants to please the democrats. he wants them to win in november. but yet it is a war. there are boots on the ground. air strikes in iraq. air strikes in syria. i was interviewing lieutenant colonel tony shafer, yesterday in fact. he said there's going to be a war here in the united states. a fox news poll said 77% of americans believe isis will come and hit us here on the homeland. and he says they are here already. a lot of people that we're interviewing are not willing to say that. he says i will tell you right here live on air that they're here, they've gone over the borders, the southern borders. he's interviewed a lot of the governors down there and worked with them very closely. they say they don't know how many because they don't know how many illegals are coming across the border. >> when i was down with governor perry on the trip that the president should have taken to the border, it was interesting. i went through and sat through a briefing. and what did i learn, joe, i'll throw this to you, you work in the media, i learned that they're catching people from
7:19 pm
yemen, syria, afghanistan and pakistan. i don't think most americans know that we're catching terrorists at the rio grandecrossing from those countries. how do you rate the media's coverage of all of this? >> the media's coverage has been very inconsistent, sean. they're accepting what the administration is saying in terms of -- the administration falls under what i call can't get a girl pregnant rule when it comes to saying whether this is a war or not. give you an example, you certainly don't look it, but are you pregnant? >> i am not. >> i got that answer in two seconds. >> you started a whole other hour. >> i said, no, she doesn't look -- when senior administration officials like john kerry, susan rice, are we at war? a clinton-type answer. that depends on your definition. what happens when you combine is is?
7:20 pm
isis. susan rice said, well, i don't know whether you want to call it a war or a sustained counterterrorism campaign. quote/unquote, everything is nuanced. the same administration that had no aversions to calling republicans outs on a war on women but have a big problem with declaring war on isis. >> i've never understood liberal opposition to my position against sharia and radical islam considering women are treated so horribly. pam geler, you've been a very outspoken individual on islamic radicalism. and fighting for hamas and fighting against hamas and supporting israel, which i agree with you on wholeheartedly. it's the same thing there. it seemed the president was reluctant and resistant to support israel even though israel was being hit with 4,000 rockets. i was there. i saw it firsthand. >> excellent coverage by the way when you were in israel. hamas is isis in gaza. and if the islamic state is not islamic, what is it? they're following the quran to the letter. and how is it that --

democrats who want to be both for the war and against it. so that's why i think he's sort of tap dancing around the terminology with regard to war. >> brian, i know you've been very anxious to jump in this. >> i don't know where to begin. i have like ten things. >> start at the very beginning. good place to start. >> first of all start with obama's definition of victory, degrade and destroy isis. very clear said that wednesday night. this whole conversation about whether this war is a war, bottom line, it's iraq's war. we are coming in with air power to support. by the way, they do have a new government. >> question, is it iraq's war? or is isis at war with us? >> isis is at war with iraq and syria right now. >> oh, focus. >> this is my point. >> is isis at war? when they behead americans, say they're going to see us in new york and raise the islamic flag in our white house, are they at war with us? >> they're coming after us. the question is how do we best fight them? my belief is we've got to work with our partners on the ground,
7:40 pm
which we don't have. in iraq we do. we have a new government. we want to work with that government. that's what the president is advocating. >> if the 9/11 commission report said they were at war with us and we weren't at war with them and he's acknowledging they're at war with us, are we going to make the same mistake again? >> look, it is time to stop playing word games. as someone who's been in combat, been in iraq, mission ambiguity is dangerous. half measures in a time of war puts people's lives at risk. so we need to call it for what it is. this is war. we have boots on the ground in iraq right now. isis is islamic. we need to come clean with the american people and see this administration start calling it for what it is. because we cannot send our troops into harm's way anymore with their hands tied behind their backs. they need to go in with the full support of this administration calling the shots as they are. >> let me come to you. you are -- to get it right -- we
7:41 pm
don't have boots on the ground. we have military advisors -- hold on, folks. call it what it is. >> we have boots on the ground in iraq right now. that is combat. >> you are -- orthodox church. radical islamist as they were in america? >> well, they are killing our children. they're attacking -- threaten us to come here like you just said it. they are at war with us. they want to destroy us. they want to come here and change our way of living. and then when we say that isis is not islamic, does not represent islam, you know what we're saying? we are really actually saying we want -- we don't want to face the facts. islam is teaching this. he says to them find those who do not believe in allah and do not agree with the messenger of
7:42 pm
allah. so fight. they are receiving divine power to do and commit what they are doing. >> in other words when they tell their children and they strap bombs on them and say 72 virgins await you in heaven -- >> okay. that's another incentive. >> it seems we're getting to the bottom here. here's another question. because i can understand the president saying islamic state is not islam, doesn't represent all islam. i'll concede that point. but i do believe that moderate muslims it's either fear of being labeled an apostate and being threatened to be killed themselves. it's either fear or silent agreement? because there's a limited number of prominent muslims willing to speak out. why is that? >> when the president comes out and says isis is not islamic, he's in effect marginalizing muslims. because who then is going to step up and say i'm a muslim and
7:43 pm
i think my religion has been hijacked by extremists. you know, this president he's come in antiwar, antibush and antireality. and that's the bottom line. he's always whitewashed the truth. benghazi, ft. hood was workplace violence, even after the boston marathon bombing he refused to use the word terrorism. and the bottom line is that this is not something that our enemies differentiate. national security will never be a part of an issue because when they come after us, no one cares what side of the political aisle you fall on. >> todd, you follow persecution against christians a lot. i read your material on foxnews.com. i know you work with fox news radio. is convert or die, is that isis? is that a vision? in other words, the president said they have no vision, they have no state, they're not islamic. is that a vision? that sounds like a vision to me. >> well, it certainly is a vision. >> or a mission. >> and it is a mission. it really concerns me when you go back to hear what the president has been trying to do really from the start of his
7:44 pm
presidency this idea that they seem to think they're going to get these radical muslims around the campfire to sing. and it's just not going to happen. look around. look around this audience. every single one of us is considered an infidel. they want to kill us. they want to kill our families. and you know we're parsing words. it is a war, it's not a war, they're a jayvee team, they're not a jayvee team. i want to know what this administration is going to call it when there's a mushroom cloud over american city because we didn't watch over that border and we weren't concerned about what was coming over that border. that is a very disturbing reality. we could see something like that happen. >> we got to take a break. i'll get you back. >> -- in america in a city right here in new york where a young man is murdered by someone -- >> new jersey. >> -- who's a jihadist sympathizer. >> on american soil a few days ago. >> nobody talks about it. we have to take a break. coming up, have some americans forgotten the day that changed our nation forever?
7:45 pm
>> thanksgiving? >> unfortunately it appears some have. why this country including those responsible for securing our safety will never forget what happened 13 years ago yesterday. that's next. i'm m-a-r-y and i have copd.

but i don't want my breathing problems to get in the way of hosting my book club. that's why i asked my doctor about b-r-e-o. once-daily breo ellipta helps increase airflow from the lungs for a full 24 hours. and breo helps reduce symptom flare-ups that last several days and require oral steroids, antibiotics, or hospital stay. breo is not for asthma. breo contains a type of medicine that increases risk of death in people with asthma. it is not known if this risk is increased in copd. breo won't replace rescue inhalers for sudden copd symptoms and should not be used more than once a day. breo may increase your risk of pneumonia, thrush, osteoporosis, and some eye problems. tell your doctor if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure before taking breo. ask your doctor about b-r-e-o for copd. first prescription free at mybreo.com

do you know what the president's strategy is against them? >> i don't. >> and i haven't heard of isis. >> those students didn't remember this was thelc]" 13th anniversary of the september 11thth attacks they were able to identify the celebrities÷c@d targeted in the photo hacking scandal. >> the reason to show is that the threat of isis is real. these are students in the nation's capital, blocks from the white house. understanding of national security to them didn't seem to be there. one student told us she's an ir major and it hadn't come up in class. >> my daughter was born just weeks before september 11th. she knows everything about september 11th. >> it was shocking out of the 30 i selected, it was a hot day. a lot of people were outside. 30 of them, 4, 4. >> doesn't it make youçs-z feel great you're the

radial islam slipped. that is why young fbi agents dealing with boston bombings didn't pick up on this. >> ronald reagan said freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. i think that video is a frightening reality what of we're seeing today. >> jason? >> i think what we saw this week from the president had more to do with this domestic politics and, a left wing that doesn't like military intervention they want to spend the money here at home. he's trying to keep them happy. at the same time, try owing to project power. >> well(gu said, we've got to a break and continue right after the break. 7:58 pm
can provide 24 hour relief for many with arthritis pain. and it's not a narcotic. you and your doctor should balance the benefits with the risks. all prescription nsaids, like celebrex, ibuprofen, naproxen and meloxicam have the same cardiovascular warning. they all may increase the chance of heart attack or stroke, which can lead to death. this chance increases if you have heart disease or risk factors such as high blood pressure or when nsaids are taken for long periods. nsaids, like celebrex, increase the chance of serious skin or allergic reactions, or stomach and intestine problems, such as bleeding and ulcers, which can occur without warning and may cause death. patients also taking aspirin and the elderly are at increased risk for stomach bleeding and ulcers. don't take celebrex if you have bleeding in the stomach or intestine, or had an asthma attack, hives, other allergies to aspirin, nsaids or sulfonamides. get help right away if you have swelling of the face or throat, or trouble breathing. tell your doctor your medical history and ask your doctor about celebrex. for a body in motion.
