about a new threat for americans overseas, why the u.s. embassy in one country says our citizens there may be facing an imminent attack. >> but first we begin with an apparent clash in the obama administration over the military strategy against idid isis, as the white house and pentagon declare we are at war with isis. here are more details about this. >> today president obama did not call it a war but said the u.s. and allies need a quote targeted relentless counter terrorism campaign against isis or isil, the islamic terrorist group. >> american military power is unmatched but this can't be america's fight alone. and the best way to defeat a

group like isil isn't by sending a large number of american combat forces to wage a ground war in the heart of the meet. that wouldn't serve our interests. in fact, it would only risk fueling extremism even more. >> that lines up with what secretary of state john kerry said that the battle is a very significant counterterrorism operation. kerpry is in egypt working on a coalition to help fight isis. president obama said a campaign of air strikes against isis will go forward and they are prepared to take action inside syria as well. some republicans are pointing out the obama administration may have a difficult time getting allies on board. especially if the definition of what america is doing is muddled. >> right now with the u.s., our word is dirt. and everybody knows it. whatever we say, nobody believes we're going to stand by it. we've got groups like the saudis and others in the middle east that ought to be willing to put their boots on the ground.

a terror plot. the group has called for revenge attacks after u.s. drone strikes killed its leader earlier this month. all u.s. citizens are being told to stay indoors or a safe place until the all clear is given. >> ukraine is still in a state of war. that is a quote and russian president vladimir putin's goal is to take all of ukraine. that is according to ukraine's prime minister meeting with european officials to discuss the implementation of an agreement between kiev and the eu, a move which the chem lykre not happy about. russia sending another convoy in without ukraine's consent. they claim the convoy could be the cover for an invasion. >> a person of interest being questioned after what appears to be a deliberate attack on two state troopers in northern pennsylvania. one trooper killed and the other wounded. the pair were ambushed at the state police barracks during a

shift change last night. brian is live in lord's valley, pennsylvania with more about this. this is a shocking attack on two police officers. >> reporter: good morning. police in pennsylvania state troopers tell us the person of interest is jeffrey hoo dak, from clark summit pennsylvania, he was located this morning but not in custody and has not been charged with a crime. we looked into his past and he does not have a criminal history. he has just a few parking tickets or parking offenses and that's it. the search is still ongoing here in pennsylvania for suspect or suspects following last night's shooting. the police say the shooting began just before 11:00 p.m. two male state troopers were sot just outside the blooming grove state barracks, which is 35 miles east of scranton, pennsylvania. one police officer died. another male police officer was taken to the hospital in scranton and was operated on and is in stable condition.

it's important to note the location of the barracks because it's in a wooded area, 35 miles east of scranton like we said and also located in an area where there's a ton of hunting going on. last night, three different agencies from three different states went to the crime scene from new york, pennsylvania, and well as new jersey and s.w.a.t. team responded. helicopters were in the air searching for suspects in a wooded a interstate i-40 ---i-8 route 82, there were blocks put in place and frank noonan said it has been an emotional night for state troopers and they are still looking and the attack seemed to be directly solely squared on the state troopers. he also said that the general public is not at risk at this time but the search is ongoing for the suspect or two suspects following last night's shooting. we're awaiting a press

conference today at 2:30. we spoke to a local business owner who says he is worried he has his actual doors shut and waiting on word on whether or not the suspects will be caught. he also owns a home next door that's vacant and he's afraid of going to that home until the police give the all clear. we're expecting an update at 2:30. again, suspect or suspects are still at large. a person of interest, jeffrey hoo dak has been questioned and not been charged with a crime. we do not know if he's in custody either. that's all we have right now. we'll let you know as soon as the press conference updates us. >> we'll bring that update to everyone live right here, again, rewe appreciate you being there and staying on top of the situation. contact us as soon as possible if anything breaks. thank you. a community group in ferguson helping small businesses there get back on their feet. the group i love ferguson selling t-shirts and bumper

stickers and raising more than $8,000. the money going to help businesses in area that suffered serious losses during the social unrest following the shooting of an unarmed black teenager by a police officer. mary landrieu in major hot water this week. the louisiana democrat apologizing for mistakingly using taxpayer funds to pay for charter flights that included campaign stops. her office already wrote a hefty check to reimburse the government but critics say her problems are likely far from over. elizabeth has more details about this. >> well, that check to the federal government is for more than $30,000 for the trip senator mary landrieu is apologizing for shoddy bookkeeping. the review i ordered last month found these mistakes stemming from sloppy bookkeeping. i take full responsibility. they should have never happened

and i apologize for this. the senator says a new system will prevent future mistakes and accommodate the rules which changed in 2002, the rule change requires congressional members to allocate specific expenses for travel that includes campaign events. landrieu is in a battle to keep her senate seat, a real clear average of polls shows her slightly below bill cassidy in three instances. cassidy points to the fact the senator is not releasing any flight records from prior to 2002. he writes in part, no matter how senator landrieu spins it, she billed taxpayers for dozens of private jet flights and even more problematic, she did not release flight records from 1997 to 2002. landrieu fully repaid the treasury with campaign funds. back to you. >> elizabeth, we appreciate that, thank you.

to help him win the presidential election. once you win the nomination, you have to get independents and others, moderates to vote for you. also, statements like that, kelly for the midterm elections does energize the tea party base. it can also detract other people who would come to our side with certain policies. again, we're going to get out the vote for the midterm elections but we also need independents to come to our side to vote for us as well. >> dave, what about senator ted cruz who basically stated the president cannot move forward with isis without congressional approval. >> i think ted cruz is alone as we often see him against other members in congress and the president. he's standing all alone because we're going to see action taken jointly with the congress and the president seeking to destabilize and to put down isis and actions that are creating a lot of chaos in the middle east.

i think he as usual is standing alone. american public and congress and the president will see to march nalizing if not eliminating that threat that isis posed to you. >> angela, you said he's not standing alone. >> you have some conservative members that want more of a plan. boehner said we should support our commander in chief because we only have one commander in chief. you've had other senators that have said they really want a plan. a comprehensive plan where i don't want to know the plan. have president obama meet with congress behind the scenes and let them know where our money is going. an f-16 is not going to win this war on terror. basically ted cruz is not standing alone, dealing with congress's approval but there are others that want the president to explain exactly what he's going to do. >> house speaker john boehner, david, went on to say there's going to have to be some troops on the ground in this situation. having said that, what will the

president have to do to not only comply with that, to give more of a definition of what the boots on ground may look like when the makeup of the coalition of the willing seems to be difficult at best right now? >> uh-huh. >> i think i'll call the co-is a ligs of the willing being those that want to protect the security of the united states and we've seen last week or in this past week that there is that consensus among members of congress and the president and administration to develop that plan and to seek to again where they can effectively minimize if not eliminate the threat posed by isis and whether that's through air strikes. whether it's having advisers from the u.s. joining with others from europe, turkey and elsewhere. and again, for coming together in thwarting the efforts by isis in their efforts to disrupt and create chaos in the region. >> the problem that we've had,

we've had chaos in this administration with a clear decisive plan. george w. bush defined what we were going to do. when the president doesn't want to use war or says we have no strategy, that's a problem and that's why a coalition of the willing, who is that. >> there's another focus the president has to contend with and that is immigration reform. that is something that they are facing for the midterms and of course long range projection gsz of what might take place in 2016. real quickly, break that down for me. what do the republicans have to do and the democrats have to do and the president to make immigration reform possible if it can ever be done? >> secure the borders, enforce the laws already on the books and need to coincide together and work as one because we have people living in the shadows, as

for the president and his administration, 11.2 million hispanic voted in the last election, 71 prosecuti% support obama and immigration reform was the number one issue. right now they actually run amuck in actually giving the latino people what they want. >> we'll have to leave it there -- >> if i might -- >> real quickly. >> if i might, there is a senate bill sitting in the house for immigration reform and it's john boehner and the republicans that refuse to just sit on it rather than getting finally reform done, which is why we had 71% support among hispanics in the 2012 election for president obama and what republicans are doing to avoid passing reform. >> we'll leave it there. the debate continues on all fronts for politics. and isis and immigration reform and rand paul wanting to make executive orders a thing of the

after white house and pentagon officials declared the u.s. is quote at war with the militant group after one day after secretary of state john kerry called it a counterterror operation. >> police in pennsylvania questioning a person of interest right now in the shooting of two state troopers which left one dead and another injured. it happened last night outside a police barracks near scranton, pennsylvania. the officers were ambushed during a shift change. >> more headaches now for the nfl. the league dealing with another abuse scandal after minnesota vikings star running back, adrian peterson is booked on child abuse charges. it comes days after a longer and more graphic surveillance video surfaced of former baltimore ravens running back, ray rice, dealing a knockout blow to his then fiancee. here's the very latest on this.

>> it was before dawn that adrian peterson turned himself in montgomery county in texas. he was indicted on a charge of child abuse. here's peterson seen at his home on friday. since then rather bracing photos have been published on tmz. despite all of that peterson was let go after being booked in. his attorney came out with this statement defending his client's actions and said he used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced in texas. he never intended to harm his son. the vikings have deactivated peterson for sunday's game yet it is another blow to the nfl commissioner roger goodell under mounting pressure here to step down over the handling of the ray rice incident.

last month he introduced a policy that would ban players after a second violent offense and this week admitted the nfl has some way to go. >> when we make a mistake, we're honest about it and we're open about it and we're going to work at it, do better. we were two weeks ago, that's when we improved our policy in this area and we have more work to do. we'll keep listening and learning and making sure we're doing the right thing for all of the fans. >> meanwhile ray mcdonald will be playing tomorrow against the chicago bears. he was arrested last month on suspicion of abusing his pregnant girlfriend. the investigation under way, no charges have been filed. back to you. >> the nfl has a lot to do off and on the gridiron. thank you. >> secretary of state john kerry visiting egypt calling the country an important partner to fight isis as the u.s. is working to pull together a

international coalition. so far it appears to be more complicated of an effort to get people to sign on. joining me now, retired navy captain, chuck nash. i need to get to the top story and ask you about the apparent clash in the obama administration over the military strategy against isis. the white house and pentagon declare we are quote at war with isis, one day after secretary of state john kerry tried to down play the conflict when asked about the expanded air strikes by reporters. so which is it? >> there's just confusion in this town. i think the defense department has a military strategy in mind. they and the cia presented that to the white house. the white house turned that down initially, so i'm told from a very good source. now they are trying to regroup and get back. and as with so many times, they are letting the rhetoric get out in front of the reality. they are setting levels of expectation that are too high.

and this leads to disappointment. it's a shame but we need the professionals to be running this operation. >> and so you say this is a ground war in the president's speech this week he focused much on air power. is an international coalition as the president describes enough to defeat what is now triple the threat as previously threat with isis fighters totally 30,000? >> first off, it is a ground war. it's going to be won on the ground. air power can be a deciding factor in the winning of that but if you start bringing in all of these people from these arab countries and if anybody who thinks you're going to get egyptian ground troops and saudi ground troops to come up into iraq and fight this, that's not going to happen because if it's confusing now, you throw that into the mix and you got a real mess on your hands. we can use the intelligence that these countries bring to bear

and we can use the bases, their proximity for u.s. air power and staging things but this is going to come down to a step by step operation. at the same time that we're working to try to restore the confidence of the iraqi military in their officer leadership, we need to first secure, push them out of the kurdish areas and lock that down. once you do that, now you have a base within and close to the front lines from which you can operate. until then -- >> go ahead. >> speaking of a step by step operation. what is the first step. the president's strategy involves air strikes and arming iraqis and syrians on the ground. what needs to happen to frorly lead the iraqis and syrians? >> first off, to say we don't have boots on the ground is in diplomatic talk an untruth. >> why would he give us an untruth about something like that? why? this week's speech was supposed to air it all out and give the

american people an open answers to what exactly our strategy is and once again we're being told half of the truth. >> okay, julie, here's an example. there was an article yesterday or day before that openly acknowledged that we're going to start basing u.s. aircraft at the air field in erbil. if you do that you've got pilots and maintainers and people who are hauling supplies and got that. they are not wearing sandals. they are wearing boots. so essentially, we are going to have to put support troops in there if we're going to do that. if we're not going to do that, why are we talking about it and publicizing it. it's a mess. >> gentleman from va on twitter writes, leads to disaster. respond with full measure. >> you say we should immediately focus efforts on supporting the kurds and efforts to push isis out of northern iraq. what does that entail exactly? what do you believe the advisers are telling president obama? will the strategy change at all

now that we know isis is a much bigger threat. >> what that entails is securing and pushing the is forces and where they can't get back in and you have it locked down. they need mortars, an tank weapons and trucks and earth moving equipment to construct those defenses. those rn the five things they need. the problem is, julie, we're trying to send them things but that stuff all goes through baghdad international airport. because of that, because of our agreement with the baghdad government, then they don't send it to the kurds. we need to start delivering this stuff directly to the kurds and keep the baghdad government out of it. remember the convoluted alliances that we have here. the iranians are so integrated into the central government in baghdad that this is very difficult for the kurds to deal with. >> retired navy captain chuck

with them on bringing bult beau philadelphia, she discovered her own inner beauty which propelled her to become a art major in college. >> what's your dream now and how are you going to make it happen? >> my dream now is to keep doing art, keep doing murals and working with the community. i want to travel more. i want to start my own business one day, my own non-profit, give back foundation for the kids. >> i got involved in this program because i was homeless at one point in my life. i was struggling and going place to place. >> isaiah is an 18-year-old who aspires to use his skills and talents to help others in need. he has struggled with homelessness and he is autistic. but that doesn't stand in the way of his per suit to be successful. >> it was a very difficult time in my life and offered me a job here and i took it. it was a good -- good time for me to shine and show my true purpose in life and that was

home builders have work to do and that's a good thing overall. i think overall it's fine. we should not worry about it from an economic standpoint. >> when you say different houses, that builders will have to start focusing on that, are you talking about town houses, condominiums and negating the single family dwellings? >> i think that's right. single family homes with the two car garage probably not that much needed but condominiums, the things where it's plug and play and you can come and go as you want, which is what single people want to do is exactly where it's at. >> is this also a trend that we're seeing because of the current economy over the past year since the housing bubble broke several years ago and we went through recession? have people been discouraged to take the next step of getting married? >> if that's true, it would be very sad because i think that you and i know being married is i think a happiest state to be in. in general, living together saves money. so when the economy is bad,

people will tend to live together, unless there are tax reasons why it's more expensive to live together. i'd like to believe that the fact that people are living separately is a sign of rising incomes the ability to do as they choose. that great american thing freedom. people want the freedom to live alone. >> in addition to freedom and perhaps even freedom not to be committed to another spouse but be committed to pursuing one's own goal first and later on deciding to get narried, what kind of commitment will single people have towards boosting american economy by going out there and being the kind of merchants that or consumers that people like? >> i think that's absolutely right. i think when i started to have children, it gave me extra motivation and incentive to work hard and when you don't have children, you don't feel that way. if we look over to europe, with declining birth rates and
