a sery was wildfires raging out of control in california. the dry conditions fuelling the flames. one is taking place of sacramento. so- called king fire and it is only five percent contained. there is a drought that turned the grass in bone-dry kindling. that is far from the only dangerous wildfires. an interno near the oregon and california border. it has destroyed the town of woad off of the map. it forced t2,000 people running for their lives. joining us on the phone from weed, california. amy, thanks for calling in and

this sounds devastating to the area. can you paint the picture of what things are looking like in weed right now? >> obviously as you saw, there is a lot of devastation in the small city. firefighters have done a great job of saving homes. there were 150 homes damaged or destroyed. njust to put this in context. two-thirds of the people were evacuated. >> there is a few areas that are under mandatory evacuation and a lot of people have returned home. obviously the people in the destroyed areas have not returned. >> one person told reporters about half of the town is gone. another person said some parts of the town were levelled and just foundations standing?

>> it is sporatic in the town. i wouldn't call it completely levelled. that's not true. we are doing ongoing damage assessment to get a accurate numbers. >> and one thing, the main industry is the lumber mill. they could lose not only their homes but jobs as well. do you know the status of the lumber mill. >> the lumber mill was not completely destroyed. parts that were and we are working on containing that. there is a lot of sawdust miles that will take a lot of work to put out. but it is one of the biggest employers for the area. >> i understand that those winds are specialing at formiles per hour. any sign it is dying down.
