in a new era of potential terrorism. and isis, he says, has mastered social media. in fact, one of the things that led to the arrest of the terror suspect in rochester was his twitter account. a member of the fbi's joint terrorism task force says 30-year-old convenience store fgeeh sent money overseas to help an individual fight for isis and tried to recruit at least two others, both fbi informants to travel to syria and wage violent jihad for the terror group. what initially got him busted $d[ a purchase of twopzf hand with silencers and ammunition he allegedly wanted to use to kill members of the u.s. military who had just returned from serving had just returned from serving in iraq. and he faces up to life behind bars on the new charges and he'll be in court in rochester

tomorrow. sean. >> thank you. coming up, mark levine and kentucky senator rand paul will join me to discuss the isis threat. but tonight two years after the benghazi terror attack that left four americans dead a house select committee held its first public hearing today on the events surrounding that let's look at some of the,/ highlights or low lights, depending your -- >> i remain convinced that our

timetables so that we can hold somebody accountable. can you understand what i'm saying? >> why is it that the state department is clinging to this legacy of power that has failed? >> this idea we're magically going to get paratroopers coming out of the back of planes, they're going to land on the american embassy isn't realistic. >> if you were an agent on the ground at the time in benghazi, would you be lobbies for more help to come to benghazi? >> i'd probably be doing more than lobbying. i would be extremely frustrating and push every button i could push. >> the things we do today and over the next few months will have lasting effects even when we're gone onto heaven. >> now, while questions still remain unanswered about what happened that night, just yesterday some democrats claim that no standdown order was given to the benghazi annex security team.
10:05 pm
watch this. á up. and one of the big ones is the whole issue of a standdown order, which was never given. >> some of these questions that have been repeatedly asked and answered were asked again in the wake of a campaign to promote a new book, both the house and senate intelligence committees interviewed these three contractors, their supervisor and others on the ground and concluded that there was no improper standdown order. to secondguess these decisions made in the fog of battle is both unfair to the brave personnelt involved and highly irresponsible. >> back with us in studio tonight to respond are two members of that benghaziy security team. they risked their lives that night. mark geist and chris poronto. they co-wrote a book, "13 hours." you have members of congress that weren't there that are calling you liars, that the standdown order was never given.
10:06 pm
is that true? >> no, it's not. i mean, they're trying -- >> they're lying about l >> they're trying to play on words. no official standdown, no improper standdown. it happened. >> it happened. we were delayed the words -- the words standdown were given. >> the actual words standdown were given? >> yes. and john has said it on multiple occasions? >> that received it? >> yeah. i received it too. >> you wouldn't possibly know where the -- where it started from? >> no. we know from our immediate chain of command which we say in the book is >> would he possibly make that decision on his own? when he knows you guys were listening to the communications at the consulate, right? >> yeah. the distress calls, definitely. oh, yeah. >> what finally pushed you over the top to disobey orders, you disobeyed orders. >> yes, we did. >> what finally pushed you to that point was you heard over the communications, if you don't get here, we're going to die.
10:07 pm
>> said it multiple times, yes, we did. >> and you believe that people did die=y!&ñ in the 30 minutes >> the interim. >> keep in mind 30 minutes we stood down. it into the fire fight at the time and you brought back 25 people, which makes in my mind you guys are heroes that night. and they're calling you liars. so i want to know, you know, what do you want to do about that? i would be pretty ticked. >> i would like to invite mr.
10:08 pm
schiff to debate. we can talk about it. >> he wants to see and say that to my face. we can talk about it. talk about everything. >> it's difficult fortk÷ me bece you're calling a ranger, a s.e.a.l. and a marine liars. >> two of the s.e.a.l.s. died. jack, the living s.e.a.l. we all went, we all testified at one point, said the same thing we're telling you now. >> i'm willing to invite all of these democrats. >> fine. lyg on this program, and see -- i would be surprised if they'll say it to your face. let's see if they have the guts to come on the program, gentlemen. you've accused american heroes of lying. congressman smith, congressman schiff, they're invited on the program. we're going to make calls first thing tomorrow and see if we get statements from their offices. have you been called -- i'm watching the hearings today and i'm thinking, all right, i read your book. your account is so different. you talk about standdown orders, they deny. you said there was no youtube
10:09 pm
video connection. you said that there was no spontaneous demonstration. that this was a planned terror attack, right? >> that's what it looked like, yeah. >> but we heard a totally different story. were the american people lied to in your opinion? >> if it differs from what we said in the book and the same time, same account, i would say, yes, they have been. >> you heard almost from theid beginning youtube video, spontaneous demonstration. i don't know many spontaneous demonstrations where you are rpgs in your pocket. >> you don't see them bring those things.lhá i've put it to the readers and listeners out there and tv viewers, read the book. you'll make your decision based on what we have to say and the book. >> keep in mind, we quit our jobs. we resigned from working government work and contracts to do this. so it wasn't that we wanted to sell books or we wanted -- it got to us so badly that we
10:10 pm
actually got together as a team and said, hey, this story's getting spun way out of control. it's either us standing up and telling the truth or it's going to continue down thati#cú path. >> so when you heard about the youtube video, when you heard there was no standdown order, when you heard demonstration and you were both there and you say this didn't happen and you hear from the president, you hear:o1 from su rice, you hear from hillary clinton, i think leon panetta, they all said it. so are you guys watching this on tv? and what are you thinking? >> i was laying in a hospital bed. >> yeah, you were in surgery in germany. and from state department and his wife right there. they could have asked, or any question they would have wanted about what happened there and gotten the truth from on the ground. >> why have you never been called to testify? >> now, we have. we have gone in front of the house subcommittee. >> behind closed doors? >> behind closed doors.
10:11 pm
why our testimony wasn't part of their findings or maybe it was and they just decided not to listen to it, i don't know. but we said the same thing to them as we're telling you now on tv as we wrote in the book, it has not changed. >> so what we're going to do, i'm going to follow-up with these congressmen and we're going to -- hopefully we'll put you all in the same room. >> okay. >> and we'll hash this out. because if they lied about men that were heroes that night, the country needs to know that. and liar, i think they ought to do it to your face. they ought to have the character to do to. >> i agree with that 100%. >> i'm okay with that. >> and what you did that night was amazing. you were there when ty woods died too. >> yes, he was right beside me. >> rightv1lhñ beside you. he died right in front of you. >> yes. >> unbelievable. guys, thank you. good to see you again. >> thank you very much. >> coming up tonight next here on "hannity". >> there will be boots on the ground if there's to be any hope success in the strategy. >> an incredibly strong warning from a former defense secretary, the great one, mark levine, he's

delivered remarks on the fight against isis earlier today where he reiterated+÷m that no groun troops will be a part of his strategy. watch this. >> i will not commit you and the rest of our armed forces to fighting another ground war in iraq. after a decade of massive ground deployments, it is more effective to!w+; use our uniqu capabilities in support of partners on the ground so they can secure their own country's futures. and that's the only solution y@=yxat will succeed over the long-term. >> however, there are now three senior military leaders who have said the exact opposite and have urged the president to now consider it. now first army chief of staff general odierno who told "new york times" this afternoon, "we've got to hit the ground forces that are capable of going in and rooting them out." and just a while ago former secretary of defense robert gates, he said this. >> the reality is they're not going to be able to be
10:18 pm
successful against isis strictly from the air, or strictly depending on the iraqi forces, or the peshmerga, or theíy tribes acting on their own. so there will be boots on the ground if there's to be any hope of success in the strategy. >> both of those comments come just one day after the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff martin dempsey put the prospect of boots on the ground back on the table. >> my view at this point is that this coalition is the appropriate way forward. i believe that will prove true. but if it fails to be true and there are threats to the united states, then i of course would go back to the president and make a recommendation that may« include the use of u.s. military ground forces. >> here with reaction to all of this and more nationally syndicated talk show host the great one, mark levine. boots on the ground, no boots on the ground, one part of the administration saying destroy,
10:19 pm
manage international coalitions, have you ever witnessed such incoherence in all your life, marc? >> we're surrounded by knuckleheads. the problem is they're supposed to be protecting the country. first of all, it's september 17th, so happy constitution day, or what's left of the constitution day. what the house has done, hsyfp l just say this, is extraordinary. they've given the president authority to train 5,000 moderate whatevers in syria. i guess they know who's what. this is interesting to me, sean. the president doesn't think he needs congressional approval, declaration of war or what have you, to bomb, but he needs congressional approve to arm 5,000 whatevers. i want to point this out. you actually have a revolt going on with the top generals in obama. i'm not talking about tanks pulling up to the white house and so forth. these men are trying to communicate to the american people that they are military men and we cannot defeat this enemy unless we use all of our
10:20 pm
armed forces and armed services. that's number one. number two, obama does not view this as a military action. he keeps telling us it's not a ñ war, it's not a war.1k for him the truth is it's about politics. it's about containing this issue politically for him so he can focus on fundamentally transforming america. and this is a very serious matter to understand. so the generals and the military see this quite differently than our very political president who really doesn't want to defeat this enemy. or he will go to congress, get a declaration of war, unleash hell on these cockroaches and then get out. instead he speaks to our military men and tells them don't worry, no combat boots on the ground. he has said it a thousand times so everyr"pá one of our enemie every single language can understand under this pjñ2ñso-c ì(lc%stand under this pjñ2ñso-c intention of defeating them, period. >> look, i agree with you it's political. but i'm more cynical maybe even
10:21 pm
than you are. i think this is just to get past the midterm election. i don't think it's any deeper than that. i don't think this president has any intention of fighting the war that they've declared against us. >> i think it's to get past the obama administration. he just doesn't want to deal with this. he sees hisx0va numbers are low he'll do the absolute minimum. i mean, the american people he says he's brought this wonderful coalition together, but they're keeping it secret. haváu ever heard of anything in your life? there is no coalition. and then he's talking about training 5,000 moderate whatevers. 5,000 against %=35,000? who are these 5,000? then he says we're going to use our air force, but we have to limit civilian casualties. how are we going to use our air force, attack the enemy where it is in casualties? these generals, the joint chiefs of staff and the rest of them, they see this as the disaster that it is. so do we. >> all right. but for bob gates to speak out
10:22 pm
té"úuhat about the rest of thes generals? they're going to be in charge of this thing and chairman dempsey said, well, i'll go back to the president. the president's not going to change his mind about boots on the ground. that means we're destined for failure. that means the war will be waged against us. prime minister netanyahu said, first, there's the mass to race -- i don't think the president has a clue about the caliphate. what does that mean for the average american when these guys get here? >> i honestly don't think he gives a damn. as hard as it is to believe. how else do you explain him not securing the mexican board? how else do you explain him being on vacation as this is breaking out. how about sending troops to fight ebola while we don't have 3,000 troops at his direction on the border and so forth and so on. the fact of the matter is if this is a war and we want victory, we can defeat them. we can wipe these cockroaches out. if he wants to do something short of that, obviously he can.
10:23 pm
but i think it's time for mr. boehner and mr. mcconnell and people to rise up and say we want to know if you want victory, if you're going to call this a war, we will do a declaration of war, but we're not going to piddle around like this for political reasons. >> but mark, we've lost 4,000 men in iraq. they shed their blood. they gave great sacrifice. others lost their limbs. and then city after city fell and the president did nothing. why would anyone be convinced that he's serious about dealing with it now after the fact? >> well, we're not. and i want to say something now that you've brought that up because that's hugely important and i know a lot of gold star families. i, hon behalf of many people watching, many people in this country, want to apologize to you. i want you to know that your sons and daughters are heroes. they did2.bqu exactly the right thing. i want to apologize to you for this phony commander in chiefr$ who cut and run. and as a result helped build up this enemy, this isis, isil,
10:24 pm
whatever the hell it is. these terrorists, these cockroaches, that we're now having to deal with or should deal with once and for all. and you know what? it just amazes me, do we want to win wars anymore? because we know how to win them. we remember how we won>n uz worr ii. if this enemy is as serious as an enemy as the secretary of defense and the head of the joint chiefs and everybody else knows them to be, then we have to attack them where they are. and unfortunately that's in syria. >> the great one, mark levine, nationally syndicated radio talk show host. thanks for being with us, mark. coming up next tonight here on "hannity". >> has rand paul ever been to syria -- >> i'm not trying to cause a fight. >> no, we're going to have a fight. it's patently false. >> senator mccain was not holding back when i spoke to him about his republican colleague earlier this week. senator rand paul responds to that and more. and greta sat down with the

welcome back to "hannity." earlier this week senator john mccain came on this program and had some critical words for one of hisz;usr(p' colleagues in the senate. take a look. >> has rand paul ever been to syria? has he ever met with isis? >> i'm not trying to cause a fight, senator. >> no, no, no, we're going to have a fight. because it's patently false. this is the same rand paul that said we didn't want to have anything to do with anything to do in the middle east, by the way. i don't want to get in a fight with him at all. but it's not true. i know these people. i'm in contact with them all the time. >> let me ask you this. >> and he is not. he is yxnot. >> here to respond, talk about today's senate foreign relations
10:28 pm
committee hearing on isis, kentucky senator rand paul. senator, i want to give you a chance to respond to that. that wask i think that we really have a true policy difference here. i'm not for arming radical jihadists. i'm not for arming radical islam. and i think most of the weapons either intentionally or unintentionally that have been given to the syrian rebels have basically just gone on through to isis. if you give them to the moderat rebels, the so-called moderat rebels, that's just a stopping point becausezrh%u isis takes t away. we don't even know who the head of the free syrian army is. there are three different people who say they're the head of the free syrian army, and people in my party and people on the other
10:29 pm
side, the president as well, want to arm people that i'm not confident that those arms won't be used against us or against israel. >> i have the same trouble, especially if they've made some type of alliance. i can't seem to get the truth about that. and it's conflicting reports. you took on secretary of state john kerry today about whether or not what the president's doing is constitutional or not. let me play that exchange. >> this committee, congress, senate and the president are all ab dekating the responsibility to vote for a new use of authorization of force, and that what you are doing now is illegal and unconstitutional. >>b14÷ you are not insinuating, are stating quite clairetively that the president has violated the constitution. the president absolutely clearlñ by almost any legal standard that i can imagine is not violating the constitution. he's upholding it. >> did we have an authorization for use of force in syria that i missed? >> and here's the thing is i think no intellectually honest
10:30 pm
person will say that when we voted in 2001, which i supported çés#9 the people who attacked us on 9/11, that that has anything remotely to do with today. i'm in support of going after isis. i think they threaten our consulate. i think they=al threaten our embassy and they threaten american interests. but i'm for doing it legally an+ constitutionally. and i think he's dreaming if he thinks the 2001 vote on afghanistan has anything remotely to do with what we're doing now. >> what is the recourse then? i mean, the president does this all the time. we hear right after the election he's going to give amnesty to 6 million people, he'll bypass congress, he did it with appointments to the national labor relation board, et cetera. my question to you, he keeps doing it, congress seems to let him get away with it. what can you do? >> here's the frustrating thing. here's the president who now says if congress won't act, i must. i must act or without authority because congress won't act. that sounds really like something out of the bizarre
10:31 pm
third world where there is no rule of law. he's done it on obamacare. he's done it on immigration. now he's doing it on war powers. so he is am acting in a lawless way. we can try through the court system, but ultimately the courts often say you have to unelect him. you have to do it through a political recourse. >> you guys have the power of the purse. let's be honest. and that has not been used by congress. in other words, you can cut off funding. why is there this mysterious reluctance -- that's why i thought the lawsuit against the president wouldn't go anywhere. i think any court's going to say congress doesn't have standing because you're not using your own constitutional authority, am i wrong there? >> yeah. that's what i said in the committee hearing. i said it's not only the president's to blame, it's the senate and the house for not acting on the use of authorization of force or declaration of war. we have the power to do it. typically the president asks for it in a joint session of congress. that's what fdr did. he did the right thing.
10:32 pm
he came on december 8th, the day after pearl harbor, and he asked for a joint resolution. he said this day will live in infamy and became a great leader for that moment. obama could have acted in a constitutional way. he could have asked, but they're petrified by elections. >> i agree. he won't even say who the enemy is, the islamic state's not islamic. no boots on the ground. no shock and awe. it's a war. it's not a war. i mean, we've got major problems here. if we can't even define the enemy, define the mission, we're giving away to our enemy what we will and will not do, it's beyond bizarre and confusing to me. >> and secretary kerry today was asked can you name one sunni nation, one sunni arab nation that will put boots on the ground. there's not one ally that will do it. and he couches that and hides it by saying we're not going to ask them. well, they damn sure ought to be fighting. >> they ought to be fighting and they ought to be paying for it.
10:33 pm
how about they pay for it for once? >> absolutely. >> senator, good to see you. you don't really want to fight john mccain, do you? >> i don't want to make it personal, but we do have some disagreements. >> more to come on this. another chapter soon to evolve here? >> you never know. i've been called a whack-o bird. i've been called a terrorist. i'm willing to engage but on policy and less on personals. >> senator rand paul. coming up next tonight here on "hannity". >> i thought it washims a bad . said i got to call you back. what do you mean brendan's dead? >> coming up next, greta is here to talk about the heartbreaking interview with the parents of brendan tevlin viciously murdered by an apparent american jihadist. and later tonight -- >> i stopped in singapore to meet with a guy named lee kwon yu who most foreign policy experts around the world say is

10:39 pm
welcome back to "hannity." it is a story that's only now getting the attention it deserves. 19-year-old brendan tevlin of new jersey was viciously murdered in june while stopped at a traffic light in his own car. now, the killer confesses to murdering him and three others as retaliation for u.s. intervention in iraq and syria. in other words, these were acts of jihad right here on american soil. now, my friend and colleague met with tevlin's heartbroken parents today for an exclusive interview which as they explain what it was like that night they
10:40 pm
received the horrible news about their son being murdered. take a look. >> i knew the one police officer. known him for years. and one of the other guys has known michael for years. and i just could see on his face. i think i grabbed him and said, oh, no, no, not brendan. and he said, yeah, it's brendan. he was murdered. murdered? i said -- kind of turns into a big blur. >> i thought it was a bad dream. thought put my head under water and call you back, what do you mean brendan's dead? you know, as a father, what she was going through, i wasn't there. it was tough.
10:41 pm
>> and joining us now greta van sustren, you have -- good to see you. >> nice to see you, sean. >> i wish you didn't ever have to do an interview like this. i'm angry watching this. >> when i spoke to them, these are lovely people, but they're the most wonderful parents. they're wonderful people. and they're trying to do good things to sort of rise above their grief. they want to name their lacrosse field, i'm angry. aactually told them because i'm so angry. i actually told them i was impressed because i was so angry. i guess they go through those stages. but they're trying to do something good in light of the their son's life. >> on your blog, and picked up by foxnews.com, the headline was why brendan tevlin's murder matters and should be making national headlines. >> well, that's because. >> this is important. >> this is important. the motive. because the man who has been arrested for murdering him has three murders pending now in
