fbi says investigators are looking into the suspect's background. while the oklahoma police department is waiting for 30-year-old alton noland to wake up before they arrest and question him. noland had just gotten fired before his job before the before the rampage occurred. he had been trying to convert several employees at the food processing plant to islam. that being said, authorities say it's way to early to to tell if that or mental illness played a role in the attack. the justice department just releasing the 911 calls. >> do you hear this in the background? >> is that him? is he back? >> sounds like he is he running around out here. [gunfire] >> and that's a gunshot. >> got gunshot. >> the police sergeant says noland severed a a 4-year-old woman's head before stabbing another coworker a number of times. he only stopped after being shot by another employee who potentially saved lives. that employee mark vaughn is the coo. is he also a reserve

it changed to gun shows were being fired. officers entered the business as an active shooter situation. >> okay. so, yeah. let's ask the people who work there who had to witness this if they think this was some sort of work place violence like a fist fight or something. absolutely not. you remember those beheading videos from isis that were so terrible that started with james foley in the orange suit. you came in here and watched this you were beside yourself. all those people that had to watch that reports up to 300 people had the ability to have seen this. >> i bet when they pull this guy's computer records, that they are doing now, he will find that he watched them to. clearly a copycat. why is it we have such a tough time recognizing the obvious. at a moment when islamic beheadings are the number one news story in the world, this guy, while apparently shouting islamic slogans beheads someone at work and changes his name to islamic name has nothing to do with islam, really? >> because those in the position of power have this narrative that terrorism is

welfare but when you hear stories like that, you wonder is there not enough regulation ahead of time or is it too easy to get? >> that's exactly the problem. you hear about stories like this and it really destroys the integrity of the programs for those who are truly in need. but the problem has been that the welfare roles have exploded over the past four years over 135% up on spending. taxpayers spent $700 billion on the food stamp program last year. this has caused the state to be unable or unwilling to do the proper verification to make sure people belong on the system and then enforce the penalties and rules once people do get on the system. there is really no incentive for states to enforce the rules because they have been incentivized to grow the welfare roles rather than control them. >> should it surprise us that a lottery player is on

walk us through what happened. you heard about this first. tell us, and describe for us how you set about down the river to find this bird. >> we were already out on the river, doing training. and we heard over the radio on channel 16, a sailboat reporting to our station that there was an injured eagle in the water. when we heard that we turned around immediately and started going in that direction. we made a few phone calls to confirm the information as best we could. and then we decided that before we got there, we needed to call the michigan department of natural resources to make sure it was going to be okay with them if we got this bird or to see if it there was anybody they could send down

to give us a hand. >> when you pulled the boat up there, it was a little too shallow for you to get that boat up. what did you see when you saw the bald eagle in the water there? >> initially, we saw her, she was actually swimming. she wasn't floating like a duck. she was mainly submerged. she was using her wings to swim as best she could. we watched her finish her swim, which was at least a couple hundred yards right on to some rocks by the power station there. >> what happened to the bird? >> honestly we are not entirely sure. there is two schools of thought here either a she flew out farther than she could to get back or dove in the water after some food and ended up submerging farther than she could back out. >> william and dominic, had you to get out there and try to get the eagle. how distressed was this bird and why did you feel so compelled to get in the water and go after this eagle? >> well, the eagle was up on

what was off of his facebook page. trying to unravel who this guy was. if you look at his facebook page over the last few months, there was a the lo of evidence point to this radicalization unfolding. he wrote. this i just want to say as an muslim we don't celebrate america's holidays with a the lot of letters missing and a lot of vowels missing. >> radical but also a moron. he writes this about christians, christians have some thing where they eat crackers that represents jesus flesh and cranberry juice that represents his blood. don't you think that's kind of evil, lol. wake up, islam is the true religion. >> photos appearing to celebrate terrorism with usama bin laden, pictures of beheadings, pictures of the twin towers on fire. same with statue of liberty, a sign saying islam will dominate the world. freedom can go to hell. do you think this is a normal guy? >> also, he had been trying to radicalize and have

members of his co-workers join him in this crusade. he was trying to get them to convert to islam on a repeated basis and members that he worked with had said to other authorities hey, this is concerning me. >> that's not enough this is his facebook page jah''keem yisrael. president obama's sideline telling muslims they are not muslims. one of the federal officials called his facebook page, quote: provocative. that's the understatement of the year saying it included a photo of usama bin laden, facebook page appearing to be nolen one depicting a heading. nope indication that no one was copying the beheading of jihadistst in syria. adding they are treating this as work place violence.

if it's even work place violence, which this was clearly not, in my mind. and i think that the individual that posted that response by the fbi should be fired because that's absolutely ridiculous. there is a level of political correctness that you can go safely. and he -- or that person went way beyond that and i think complacency really leads to being unaware and that's a problem when we have somebody who is, youknow, g these things, trying to convert these things. that's one thing. but when you look at his facebook site, which companies can do, and you see this intense ideology spread all over it, there is an issue there. >> well, it seems like the people who wind up, americans who wind up becoming radicalized are from one of two groups. either immigrants usually from somali or pakistan or from this guy who looks like he got converted in prison. a lot of radical islam in

american prisons. what can we do about that. >> call it what it is fundamental mohammedism. you made a comment if christian church was actually doing something like, this you would have an issue with this. >> yeah. >> here's the thing, if somebody is a new convert to christianity, or a new convert to islam, they are going to be energized. and they are going to be really practice the fundamentals, because as we progress in our religion, we progress into adding our own stuff into it it fundamental christianity is a religion of faith, fundamental islam is a religion of force. and you see recruiting in prisons. you see recruiting in the inner cities and mosques going up in the inner cities while they may be trying to do a service. the fact is anybody who has a fundamental or what we call radical viewpoint it's easy pickings there because people are looking for hope and change. >> so to speak. >> so to speak. >> are you troubled by the department of justice regulations, new guidelines that we have been reporting

think are an effective way to put them back on their heels, if you will, without the other two, we really won't be truly effective. that's why the military is put three together. we have seen this unfolding right now. 22 air strikes so far against isis targets and more than 30 strikes in syria. when we talk about those air strikes? what are reseeing? what is unfolding with air strikes? are we trying to dampen them so we can put boots on the ground eventually. >> what you are see something a softening of the target. hard assets used initially. seeing the leadership in flux. and their command and control starting to talk to each other, which opens up to a little bit of activity and we can start targeting them on the ground from that. >> air strikes are extremely effective at degrading the enemy. but that alone is not going to destroy isis, which is what mission success looks like. so we're going to see the enemy. we are going to see isis changing their tactics,

techniques and procedures. changing command and control center locations. we are going to see them start blending in the population. >> we are a finely tuned military in the united states. we are used to communicate amongst ourselves very well. when we form this coalition we have discussions with other pilots. how does that unfold? are we worried that there is going to be maybe something might be lost in translation off how much of a burden are we handing over to other members of the coalition? >> i don't think there is any doubt when you have multinational militaries working together there is going to be calm issues. point earlier the boots on the ground should not just be american boots. i love what i i'm seeing the british vote yesterday in belgium and denmark. this coalition. what people need to understand is this is not a quick fix. right? this is not world war ii. it is not vietnam.

we love it nice and neat in this country but this is a long-term commitment that i think the globe literally the world needs to get around. >> who is going to be boots on the ground? if we are all in agreement that we need the boots on the ground. moderate syrian fighters and then who are they? for a long term approach, 10, 20, 15 years. or let to to the local command and control to handle this? >> what you are seeing now, there are special operators on the ground. they have been training their partners that have already been there the person -- peshmerger guard. train assist and device methodology, they are really going to handle the brunt of isis. >> we don't even know who half the syrian rebels are what does it mean to be moderate in the first place? there is no leadership on the ground in syria. so, when we are talking about arming these syrian rebels, who do we talk to? how do we have a conversation with them? we don't even know who is in charge? >> exactly.

and when we are talking about army and training them. it'sing going to take time. it's not going to happen overnight. so, and we also have to remember that their objective is not necessarily to fight and defeat isis. they want to get rid of assad. and so, who is going to take care of that isis threat in the interim? there is -- until they are basically armed and ready to continue the fight, so we need to continuing arming the peshmerga. now we need to get serious about a ground coalition with our allies that involve a long-term commitment with resources and funding and these ground forces. >> can pinprick air strikes do the job? i mean, there seem to still be getting funding from their oil fields. they are still putting out social media messages. they are still getting their message out. they are still attacking people and still killing people and putting it out there with videos that are well produced. >> look at the pinprick side

of it, i think. we are warming up. it's a logical step. we have got to put the pilots over there. so, i don't think it's the long-term plan. we had to do something to knock them back on their heals. because the strength was just growing every day. >> so what you see he with air strikes, is you see a stalling of their momentum. where we really need to dominate them and create relentless pursuit is in the virtual space that is what is keeping them together right now. >> can we have a social media campaign that rivals what they are doing. taking the message out there virtually. we are hearing that the government is looking into doing that trying to say think twice before you would want to join isis, putting out i think it's about time that we start doing that because as we know isis has been effective with social media campaign in terms of recruitment and pushing their agenda and ideology. we need to let the world

as he has been over these past six years. do you think we will see a new attorney general who is less polarizing than holder was. >> i think the answer has to be he yes. no question that holder was a very divisive attorney general. he really was at the center of so many of the most politically explosive controversies that the administration has been embroiled in. and i think right now the

president, in choosing his next attorney general really faces a fork in the road. on one hand, he can choose someone who would continue in the mode of eric holder. that is to say someone who would be more of a political warrior. on the other hand, he could choose someone who might put the focus can of the department of justice back encore mission of law enforcement. >> right. so for those out of the country for the past six years, put up on the screen, a few of eric holder's politically motivated moves as ag the fort hood work place violence situation. he sued arizona over immigration law. he opposed voter i.d. laws called them racist. inserted himself into the ferguson missouri case among many others is it naive to say it's all holder or weighs acting out the president's desires in asserting himself into those things? >> i think there is both in there no question that mr. holder passionately believed in a lot of these things. at the same time, he has a very close personal relationship with the president. i cannot imagine for a moment that he would be going out there.

pushing these issues, these political issues so aggressively if he didn't have the president's backing and support. i think mr. holder was doing exactly what president obama wanted him to do. >> it sure seems that way. who is going to replace him? >> it's a great question. the names that we have been hearing. some of them are already familiar to us. one is don, the solicitor general. he argued the obamacare case. a presence in the supreme court. they have been talking about the federal prosecutor in new york. there is camilla harris the california attorney general. devol patrick the governor of massachusetts, his name being mentioned as well. >> two out of four i think are more moderate than eric holder. that's for sure. do you think it's going to be tough to get anybody through the senate after holder? >> i think it's going to be a battle. the fact is that this confirmation hearing in many ways will be a referendum on eric holder. the next laundry list. do you agree with mr. holder on this on this, on this, on this. it will be a mine field.

doing something terrible like fort hood you would condemn that. >> absolutely would condemn that and say it has nothing to do with us but i wanted to make it clear that is a misrepresentation of the religion. i wouldn't go around and saying religion isn't involved. i would say a nutty version of religion is involved. i would say a perverted version of religion is involved. i wouldn't act like nothing here about religion. it's everything about religion. got to be honest about it. >> explain this phenomenon then. the president of the united states time after time has assumed this role as theologian in chief telling various groups they are not muslim. isis you are not muslim. i'm sure he will tell this guy no you are not a muslim. when did the president become an authority who is and who is not muslim? >> let's just ask ourselves if a person gets down on a mat five times a day and pray and from their prayer they get up and kill somebody and they associate it with screaming out the name of god as they kill somebody, i think it's kind of hard to separate at least their religious intentions from what they did.

that's the whole point. >> tucker's point is great. you go back to george w. bush right after september 11th, he said similar words, did he not? about this is not a war against islam. that islam is a peaceful religion. and he made great efforts, george w. bush did, to try to push that and make sure that we were identifying these terrorists separately. so is that a hold over from that? what do you think? >> we all want to be careful not to categorize everybody who is a muslim as being a radical jihadist. because wouldn't be fair, wouldn't be true. that would be inaccurate to say everybody who is muslim and goes to a mosque you better be worried because they may pull out a knife and slice your head off. that is nonsense, there are legally many wonderful people who are muslim. but what we have to understand is that the real threat we face happens to be a version of islam that is absolutely radical, out of control, and we are at war with them. we can't just go around and saying oh, it's just, you know, some little issue.

it's not -- it's huge. but we need to focus on what really we are afraid of. not just what we are mad at. >> if you were president of the united states, you had a marshall your secretary of defense and all of the members of your cabinet. you're dealing with the military and dealing with the crisis that is isis right now in the middle east, how would you approach this? because the secretary of defense hagel saying this is the fight against isis is just the beginning. and that air strikes alone are not going to stop this. what would you do? >> the first thing i think the president should do is to say everything is on the table. never tell your enemy what you are not going to do. because now he knows your limitations. clinton eastwood said it best. a man has got to know his limitations. you never tell somebody what your limitations are. you know what they're. you don't ever say by the way here are my limitations. you know what? then i'm going to exploit your limitations. if we say we are going to come after you but we are only going to come after new these ways. then i'm going to come after you in every way you are not

going to come after me. >> i'm confused what our objective is obviously we are want to kill them. even the gulf case. this is taking place in the middle of the syrian civil war. fighting the president of syria. we are saying we are against him but also against his enemies. what exactly do we expect is going to happen in syria and what should we want to happen in syria? >> the old phrase when your enemies are killing each other, never get in their way. let them go ahead and finish it off. there is a certain sense in which we need to make sure that we limit our concern to that which threatens measure security, american safety, american journalists being beheaded. but we do need to understand that the real threat of isis is not necessarily what's happening in the civil war in syria. it's what's coming across the southern border. it's what happened in moore, oklahoma yesterday. it's what could be happening in a community, in a town near you. that's what i think we need to be afraid of. >> that seems to be one of the biggest things that isis is working on right now is asking these lone wolfs in

republican party and the tea party to abuses against women when she had done a little bit of her homework, she would have found out othe majority of tea party leaders in this country are, in fact, women. but, more importantly, these are men of the republican party, which is where i think the republican party fails to take her comments and educate the public considering when you look at women like susan b. anthony, who happens to be a champion for women's suffrage and women's right who went to jail for voting a straight republican ticket it is republicans who supported women's rights. it's free market principles that helped madam walker become the first female millionaire in the united states of america as a black woman during the time of slavery. >> katrina to show the other side of this though the liberals coming to the dnc chair woman's side saying this is a stretch that republican critics are saying that this is somehow comparing the back of the hand to domestic violence. if that is a stretch and

that's not at all what she meant. is this just something that happens to be in her vernacular and happened to say it or was this deliberate? >> this was absolutely deliberate. one of the things the democrat knows is to scare people, to make the republicans out to be demonized. this is exactly what she meant to say. and she said it during this time for a reason. but this is an indicator of where the democrat party stands nationally, going into the midterm elections. they are spiraling down the drain and they are on the losing end. >> when we are looking toward november. what is it the republicans need to do to combat this so-called war on women, that the democrats have successfully painted, and a lot of circles. so what do republicans need to do to get their real message out. >> well, the republican establishment, if they are smart, and i use that term loosely, would take these comments and run ads in all of those states where there are senate races to be won and tell the stories of the success is of women in this country because of the

came back it was very challenging for me especially because i didn't understand that i was going through anything at that time. >> yes. >> but i came back. i went through some challenges. but one of the things that helped me scom back fly fishing waters. they wrapped their arms around me and started to teach me how it to fly fish. >> i have talked to so system veterans helped by project healing waters. tell our viewers how fly fishing acts as rehabilitation or medicine for veterans. >> >> yes. i think that there is like a combination of things that happen, right? so, when a veteran comes back, they may be physically or emotionally wounded. >> yes. there is also sort of a transition that happens where it's just that change from this military culture to coming back in to the civilian world. you are not wearing a uniform anymore. you might feel isolated. so fly fishing gets you out into the environment.

it gets you out doing physical activity it. we think it kind of transcends fly fishing too because there is this spiritual healing that takes place. i think that anybody that has fly fished kind of understands. >> you don't have to be an ailing veteran to reap the benefits of fly fishing. it does make everything better. >> i think so. >> one of the great features for people all around. this gets people out into that -- >> -- there is is the shared experience that takes place with the veterans where they are sort of maybe feeling a little isolated out in the world. and now you are with a bunch of other veterans. a bunch of other people that may be going through some of the things that you have gone through and now you can communicate with them and feel like you are part of something again. >> fly cast. one of the most beautiful moments that it a human is capable of. watch this. >> all right. >> you are keeping that fly line in the air. no weight. you are using the weight of the line to move. >> you know i fish, but you are always dealing with the fishing line. this fishing line doesn't get tangled like regular line. >> no.

calling it work place violence is counter productive. how would it be productive to call it terrorism? >> well, i think if we called it terrorism, which is what it is, we would be more willing to commit the necessary resources. so one of the things that we are very good at is kind of the hard power or kinetic aspect of counter terrorism. what we are not as good at is the soft air approach which is countering tharyive. i think in large part that's due to the fact that we don't commit the necessary resources to countering the narrative in the way that we need to. >> then are you disheartened by the report out overnight about what the department of justice plans to do in the wake of eric holder's resignation, these new regulations and coming down, basically saying that we can't have racial profiling. we can't be looking at ethnicity. we want our federal law enforcement officials to sort of put that out. you know, if he is studying islam and he is worrying about radicalizing his colleagues, separate that

out from who he is as a person when we actually go about defending our citizens in this country. were you upset by that report? >> yes. slightly. because i think the social geography of intelligence collection is driven by the threat, right? until we can come to terms with that you know, we are not going to be able to deal with it in the way that we need to. >> what do you think the fbi needs to do next to stop the threat of homegrown terrorism in this country? we have seen a number of these lone wolfs pop up across the country now. are these isolated incidents? should they be handled as isolated incident or is there part of a l narrative we are seeing unfolding in this country? >> we need to take preventative measures. i think a significant part of, this one of the key or critical aspects to preventative measures are fbi or law enforcement sting operations. they have been largely successful in the past. now, of course there are are concerns about entrapment. but i think the more we focus on this and the more resources we dedicate to things like sting operations, we can really

get to these people before they go forth and commit these acts we can probe just how serious their intent is and stop them before it actually gets to this point. >> do you see a pattern among these guys? you are an expert in this. how does someone become radicalized? what sort of profile does this guy fit. >> there is no single demographic profile of radicalized terrorists which makes it so difficult. one of the things i think about quite frequently is are converts more susceptible to striking out and taking these extreme behaviors. perhaps sometimes they feel that they have more to prove. >> collin clark with some ominous words this morning. we appreciate you joining us this morning from pittsburgh. >> thanks. >> hundreds of students protesting changes to history curriculum. but are they really just political pawns for teachers' unions. the school board member whose policy sparked it all is live next. the clinton clan getting

colorado students protesting curriculum changes that would promote patriotism. >> they want to take away our curriculum. i mean, the students know everything that went on. >> it's not right to teach them just what's right about america.

we need to learn what pe we did wrong. >> is the censorship of american history is wrong and i think pretty communist. >> should jefferson county be allowed to omit parts of american history? one of the board members who introduced the proposal. >> one of the members who backed these changes, julie, thanks for coming on this morning. so i want to cut through the noise and the propaganda, i know it's hard, but what exactly would these new changes do and why do you support them? >> what these new changes will do, it will emphasize the negative aspects of america and it will minimize the exceptionalism, the great parts of american history. >> hmm. >> okay. so part of the proposal, this is a pull-out from that material, should promote citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free enterprise system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights. materials should not encourage

civil disorder, social stripe or disregard of the law. that sounds good, but the students seem to have an issue. they're outside, protesting, and it doesn't appear that they're just protesting patriotism. what is it that they have a problem with that would come under your changes? >> i'm not propoeing for any changes. all i am asking for is for a citizen group to review curriculums, to give the board a broader perspective, a broader understanding of what is appropriate for our children to be learning and what's not. we're not talking about censorship in anyny way. >> looking at my own kids' curriculum -- and i believe that you should teach history as it happened, the good and the bad, that's what history is, not what you want to know or hear about but what actually occurred. but there's a lock of balance where there's an emphasis on the 1960s and the civil rights movement but almost nothing about the civil war or the

founding of the country. is that a common lack of balance, do you think, have you seen that in schools in colorado? >> in the new framework, this is brand-new framework for the a.p. american history, yes, it's part of that curriculum. i would say as far as the other american history, you'd have to look at the common court standards and see if that is a consistent theme. >> okay. you say that you think the national education association is playing politics here and organizers on social mia rallying these kids, how do you think politics plays into this? >> we absolutely have proof that the nea pretty much from the day after we were elected has been working against us. they are upset that they don't have control of the teacher compensation plan that we just implemented and since july they've brought out 48 folks to do training of activists and

was celebrating and proselytizing and trying to get other people to come along with on his view points of radicalization. this is his facebook page. of course he changed his name. and he had all sorts of horrible things on the page including comments like this -- i just want to say as a muslim -- let me read it in the way he wrote it and not clean up the english. i just want to say as animus limb we don't celebrate amerikas holidays. not only an extremist but also a moron. despite the fact he had pictures of the twin towers on fire, of a beheading, of osama bin laden, all this on facebook, despite the fact he had an islamic phrase tattooed on his abdomen and apparently shouted islamic slogans as he beheaded this woman, despite the fact he tried to convert his co-workers and supported stoning of warkers at the workplace, federal authorities are saying we're not

sure this has anything to do with religion. the president's in habit of telling people who claim to be muslims they are not muslims. he is not only a note economist and constitutional scholar but the president is a theologian as well. he's going to explain, not really a muslim. >> one of the federal officials called it provocative, saying it included a photo of osama bin laden, the facebook page includes a wide range of photos including one depicting a beheading. but the fbi has so far found no link to terrorism. also no indication nolen was copying the beheadings of journalists in syria, adding this they are treating this as workplace violence, coming to us from "the washington post." >> provocative. yeah, isis is provocative. >> workplace violence. let's ask the potential of hundreds of employees there whether they think this is workplace violence, just like a fistfight, something hr needs to be called in on. i don't think so. someone was just beheaded by an isis sympathizer it appears.

continues, but it's obvious he convert to islam, obvious he was attempting to convert people in his workplace. i think it's emblematic of the administration, who continues to refuse to call this terrorism what it is, which is islamic extremist terrorists. the 9/11 commission was very clear. it said america would make a mistake if it does not call it what it is, which is islamic extremism jihadists that attacked our country and we must destroy them. we now have a president who came to power in an attempt to try to dismanhattan it will bush doctrine to only realize that the bush doctrine is the only way to defeat these people, to take the fight to them, to infiltrate them, and to destroy them where they exist before they come into our homeland. and so you can see it at all levels of government, the administration when they send their folks in, the first thing they want to do is to try and appease everyone and say, well, this isn't -- this isn't a terrorism.

well, it's not oklahoma city bombing. it's not ruby ridge. this is not just some man who flew off the handle. clearly we don't see beheadings as a normal type of workplace violence in this country. >> we don't. this guy was american, apparently converted in prison, but a lot of the homegrown action terror acts have been committed by imgrants to this country. is anybody saying, hold on, maybe we should limit immigration from countries with a lot of islamic extremism, like somalia? why wouldn't we be doing that right now? >> part of it is is immigration and naturalization services background that they do when you apply. and we call on the administration to heighten that and to improve that process. obviously there's things we could do legislatively that, given what's going on we should. but the big frustration i think for all of us in congress has been the administration's refusal just to stop those americans that we know have gone overseas to join the fight who have proclaimed their

association with isis. the fact that we haven't revoked their passports, there would be something as simple to say to those 300 people that the administration says we know they are known fighter, we know they are joan jihadists. why would we allow them to keep their u.s. passport is unreal. >> are you disheartened by the new guidelines from the department of justice. we've been reporting all morning long about them. cannot racially profile, can not look at your ethnicity, can't look at your background, your religious background any longer so, if the fbi is going to try to identify lone wovms we have to remove those monikers before we can investigate you. >> it's in sharp contrast to the oversight and surveillance authority they've asked from congress. the argument that they've made to be able to watch who you call, which phone numbers you call on your cell phone, is the argument that we want to be able to know about who you associate with, perhaps you could be a target. well, if who you associate with

we all remember those three minnesota men month who died in somalia fighting for isis in 2009. and just this past august. americans radicalizing is rearing its head again as an oklahoma man behead his co-worker after reportedly frying to convert others to islam, cho to which he recently converted. what is causing this radical conversion in america and should the muslim community be doing something to stop it?

should they? joining us, a physician and author of "in the land of invisible women." thanks for joining us this morning. >> thank you so much. >> so why is this happening? i think it's multifactorial, and certainly we're very concerned with the atrocity this sum we are the activities of isis, but we also have a problem with radicalization through social media consumption and also in america's prisons they have been studying radicalization for prison islam. who know what is motivated this individual, but the key thing to say is believing in islam is by no means something done under compulsion or under threat of violence. this is absolutely not a valid and must be completely put to rest that that cannot be true practice of islam. >> but isis has sent out video, three so far, of their opera tifs beheading people. what kind of person would look at that video and say, you know what, i want to be part of that? >> a great question and very, very alarming. we know from our british

counterparts that many of these people consuming information are middle-class british often women and people who are privileged with access to this information because they have a computer, they have wi-fi. but they have an appetite for what seems alien, what seems foreign, and they may be naive that going into a blank canvas they may not be aware of this society they're in. it also i think, because i have seen decapitations myself in films with counterterrorism experts, there is a lurid fascination, and i think once somebody can see that without any context it's easy to pursue it just like people pursue pornography or other ways of titillation. it's deeply troubling. >> it is a species of pornography as far as i'm concerned, a back level of violence. what should mosques do? how should they respond? >> i think we have all the roles to play, first reassure people that these beliefs are

absolutely alien to the practice of mainstream islam, which is heterogeneous, 1.65 billion followers over 70 different sects, most of him will denounce this. the only people that have embraced this are radical islamists and they have to be exposed. we are in the best position to expoetz that. great example is the parents of a female who reported her to the british police when she was missing concerned that she had become radicalized by watching internet material in her bedroom and she had every privilege afforded. her parents were the someoones y this was criminal and were concerned and warned other muslim parents. >> you said twice it's clearly true that people from middle class, upper middle class, educated backgrounds are paradoxically more likely will be toy act to this kind of extremism. the 9/11 hijackers weren't from impoverished backgrounds. why is that? >> in this era information is so wide hi available, the children
