initiatives and we don't have a plan for victory. >> you mentioned if we were going to fight isis, we should fight them the right way. what is the right way to fight them and defeat them? >> i t$ink we need to realize that iraq as we know it is gone because a lot of us predicted isis we need some troops on the ground. unfortunately, not to do the most fighting but to support, provide intelligence, training to backstop a sunni army like the one we used in the insurgency strategy george bush ordered in 2007. raise a proxy army to take land back from isis and hold them and realize we have to give them a state so you have three iraqs. >> that plan is being talked about and some would say that there are troops there providing
1:45 pm
humanitarian effort and training, et cetera. so where are the complications, in your opinion? >> the complications, i don't think -- we are still reliant on a political reconciliation coming fráz baghdad that would allow the sunnis to put aside their grievances and really take the fight to isis. remember, the sunnis feel betrayed. we asked them to rise up and they did against al qaeda in iraq as part of that 2007 search. we move them off of our payroll and then maliki basically betraye" them. to get them to stick their necks out who will kill you if you look at them the wrong way is going to take more than the wordáhjt secretary kerry or president only. they need to know they have some future and some real power and more than just promises and i don't think you can get that with the few hundred or thousands of troops held up at the baghdad airport or from dropping bombs overhead. >> i want to ask more that about

filling a propaganda mission. it's unfortunate to say that they are succeeding but really they are. >> they are all about propaganda. they are working. in your opi'ion, is isis perhaps feeling the heat on some level and they are just getting more desperate? is that a possibility? or no? >> i wish that were true and i hope it is. but again, just looking -- if you were really feeling the pain, if this were really degrading your operational capability, would you really be on the offensive in syria and in northern iraq and in western iraq? this just doesn't look to me like a military force that really is reeling. and aside from that, and that military tactical assessment is beyond my expertise, if you're in iraq or a politician in iraq and trying to decide whether to reconcile with the sunnis or get while the getting is good, i

think you have to look at this and say that there is no plan for victory. also with the west, we are a little bit impatient. i think it's going to be someáhing that drags on for several years and the american people are not great at being patient with middle eastern wars. >> i want to ask you before we go, why do you think the tissue ki turkish government appears reluctant to help there on the border? >> they are playing with fire. they have a lot on their hands. they have 160,000 refugees in the last ten day but turkey is playing a dangerous game trying to be friends with some islamis islamists but draw the line with others and that's why they support hamas and the muslim brotherhood. this is nothing new. this is a role they fulfilled going back to the 19th century,

in hong kong, the executive officer there, saying to these protesters watching here on the screen, they want them off the streets come monday morning local time and they have threatened to do anything, to get rid of the protesters by any means necessary. what happens come monday morning if these protesters have not cleared the streets? >> i don't think anything is going to happen monday morning 'cause i think that that threat really is hollow. every time the hong kong government has used forceful tactics, it meant the protesters got sympathy from the rest of hong kong. last sunday when they used tear gas, people turned off their televisions and immediately went to the streets to join the students. also with these try ideas on much larger than the news of these triad attacks. every time they use force, it's counter productive for bashing and the hong kong government. >> we're hoping we won't see any bloody spááp(áq >> but you can't rule anything out because for beijing, this is
