a-year-olds? because i goal in. >> shoot,. >> they are not here yet. first up, the ebola crisis still unfolding, the president's latest response an ebola czar, who did he pick for this important job? obviously someone with deep medical and healthcare experience, no. he picked the ultimate washington insider ron klain. there he is right there. he worked in the clinton administration for al gore. most recently chief of staff for joe biden and now he is in char of the government's ebola response. >> her is his resume no medical healthcare background. famously the lead lawyer for al gore during the 2000 recount. remember the hanging chads? he was down there in florida handling that. did you see the movie recount hbo about the whole hanging chad. kevin spacey played him in the movie. >> this reminds me of a different hollywood movie

contagion. rather than worried about some weird strain of the flu we're worried about political damage. this guy is a political insider. political fixer of sorts more than he knows anything about ebola. josh earnst was asked yesterday what does he know about ebola? and josh basically said well, let me tell you what i want to answer. let me answer a different question than you asked me. we are looking for somebody who is not an ebola expert but somebody who is an implementation expert. >> implementation expert. keep in mind he lobbied on behalf of fannie mae which who tanked the u.s. economy. so he was one of many people in washington taking money from the failed government backed mortgage giant. >> in addition to solyndra, he is the guy who pushed the white house to go after and go to solyndra. pushed president obama to fly out to california, make appearances at the solyndra plant there. remember what happened after that took place. he was one of the people

inside so perfect because this is a windowed into the way the white house is thinking about the ebola crisis. the rest of us look at this and say wow, this a a pandemic that could be moving here to the united states. it's a concern. it's a medical problem. the white house sees this as a political problem. that's why they appointed not a doctor but a political insider. a democratic party hack. >> democrats say wait a second, republicans you have blame to on this. surge general not showing up to meetings right now. pushing it on the republicans saying if youfield actually push his appointment through, we would actually have surgeon general in the white house. >> name the last time a surgeon general did something it? >> coop. >> what do you do for a living? i never could figure that out. >> they are the general surgeon. >> unbelievable. >> see the cover the "new york times" today? it's the phoniest story.

>> how much easier would that be than mounting this ludicrous public relations campaign hiring this hack to coordinate the efforts? just like let some of the flights from west africa, why is that hard? >> that seems like an urgent issue. you have some democrats coming out and flip flopping position in north carolina. we do support a travel ban now when we didn't before we see the urgency of it. stephan hayes has a lack of urgency across the board. listen. >> the problem is he is not coming in and reporting directly to the president. he is coming and reporting to lisa monaco and susan rice. he becomes part of this bureaucracy. he doesn't override bureaucracy. it was probably a fool's error in think it was a big problem solver. if i'm republicans i don't focus on who he is or the fact he doesn't have medical expertise. i focus on the problem. the problem is the president and the lack of urgency weave seen the president 'and decision making. >> decision-making is completely warped political

correctness. the left is act ing like it's mccarthyite to be concerned about ebola. maybe people with ebola shouldn't come to the united states. you can't say that? really why? >> we have seen other nations, a couple dozens now do iting the same thing. >> including african nations. >> well, our own leland vittert is following the story back here at home right now, the case of these dallas nurses infected. nurse nina pham's condition downgraded to fair after her transport to the nih in maryland. this as we are learning nurse amber vinson may have been in worse shape than previously reported when she traveled to ohio. >> leland vittert is with us with more. what do you know. >> we are going to start with nina pham the nurse here at the hih possibly. they can't tell us why they degraded her down to fair condition. pointed to a long trip from dallas. we he did see her on video smiling before she left the hospital in dallas looking

actually remarkably with someone with the most feared disease. at yesterday's press conference tried to down play expectations. >> she is not deteriorating. i cannot tell you at this particular time why we have said fair because of patient confidentiality. but she is quite stable now and resting comfortably. >> any idea how long she will be here. >> we do not know how long we will get her here until she is well and clear of virus. >> now, nurse amber vinson is also considered stable at emory university in atlanta. she got it from treating thomas eric duncan it involves hundreds of other people. flu on a frontier airlines flight cleveland to dallas hours before going to hospital with symptoms. it has thoroughly cleaned and sanitized the plane she was on. the airline's chief says she was feeling, quote, funnely when she flu. meaning she might have been in a more advanced stapling

care of. it's the budget cuts that have put us behind the 8 ball here. >> i think it's wrong and frankly insulting to the case of the cdc. we under estimated the challenge of treating this in urban environment and modern hospital. in the case of the nih. that vaccine is moving forward actually in the hands of a private sponsor right now. we have two vaccines and clinical trial with them in december in west africa involving 30,000 patients. >> you are shooting down the idea that budget cuts have hurt the cdc and their response largely lampooned because of their response. >> budget cuts. manpower up 23% since 2007. billion b. a billion dollars of money has been taken away from them. the bottom line is that the challenges were that i think we underestimated the complexities of dealing with this in the setting that we're now dealing with it it cdc is adapting very quickly to their credit. they have changed their strategy. i think dr. frieden deserves credit for changing this in realtime and coming one a

really? >> there are a lot of "fox & friends" viewers among tsa viewers. nice guys. carrying out dumb rules. >> we meet a lot of fans at the airport. stories to headlines about this morning. police officer who shot unarmed teenager michael brown says he feared for his life. the "new york times" reporting darren wilson told federalnvestigators that brown had pinned him to his patrol car as the two fought for his gun. the 18-year-old was shot six times. wilson said it was in self-defense. but witnesses claim brown had his hands raised. the deadly shootings two months ago continues to fuel racial unrest and protest in the st. louis suburb. a daring rescue caught on camera. colorado man pulled on the burning truck after having epileptic seizure. a neighbor spotted the smoke and raned the man inside and pulled him out to safety seconds before the truck went up in flames. the man passed out with his

the administration has decided to stop deporting a lot of people, obviously. >> that's right. and we hear complaints from groups opposed to enforcement that enforcement causes the families of illegal immigrants to be broken up. but the reality is that when we are not even deporting criminal aliens. these are people who have caused harm to american families and to legal immigrant families through their criminal activity in addition to, you know, affecting the job market, costing us money in social services and so on. it's, you know, we are at the point, really where not enforcing the laws is encouraging more people to come here illegally. it represents a security threat. and ultimately makes a joke of the law. and in the meantime the president is talking about an executive action that would legalize all of the people who aren't target for

how to become a fighter pilot to fight one of the greatest air forces in the world? how would that take? it seems like longer than a few weeks. is it a failure of logistics on the part of united states? >> on both counts i think you are right it is a difficult task to train a pilot. especially with these jets. sort of meg 21s or 23s which are old planes. contrast thosibility can as with the u.s. air force or u.s. aviation no comparison is. military people always say don't be overconfident. once these -- if these -- if isis do have these planes and if they take to the air, then they are going to very quickly find themselves in the difficult situation when they come up to meet, you know, u.s. f-15s or f-18s. at the same time though, i i think it shows the fact that there is an intelligence gap on the part of the u.s. that central command would clearly take by surprise by these reports and quite

frankly don't know exactly what is going on. >> so that's a great point. let's dive a little bit morere deeply into that. an intelligence gap. what does that say about our goals and our ability to reach those goals if we can't even get the proper intelligence to know that isis fighters are now grabbing old aircraft and taking to the skies? >> yeah. well, this is something i wrote about earlier this week for national review. and my point was that because we don't have enough human intelligence officers on the ground in syria, which admittedly is easy for me to say in the studio. it's a point in war where you have to have people on the ground giving you reliable intelligence when you don't have the kind of preference in terms of air controllers robust air campaign. if we are thinking about the number of air missions that the central command is releasing each day, they are pretty low compared to what you would need for this kind of operation. the problem becomes is that you see, although the united states has been able to push isis back in co-bane, they

are advancing very much on the front this situation is a lot worse than actually the pentagon being honest about. and but that's not the pentagon's fault. that's because the white house is putting them under extraordinary pressure to say look, we are doing. this it's going well. >> you worry about the propaganda side of this. not so much that they are actually going to be using these logistically in battle. what do you mean. >> if they can show a video or photographs of themselves holding planes. then they begin -- plays to that notion on the part especially of young men that look at our cause. now we have an air force. we are taking territory. america can't contest against it now we have an air force and we are going forward. it's a big thing. you know, again, in the middle east especially with a group like isis. perfection is as important if not more important than

protests continue in though streets. it's clear that people want change, some even saying it's time to turn away from the democratic party there. joining me from st. louis is the executive director of the blackosphere. "the washington post" has an interesting piece suggesting that some black leaders around st. louis in the area of ferguson are saying, you know, we voted for democrats lo these many generations and look what it got us. maybe it's time to rethink your voting. do you think this is a trend? >> yeah, it's only taken 80 years, though, right? i wouldn't get overly exuberant about it, but it is a sign that there is a kink in the armor here. the fact of matter is, when these people are out protesting, i asked the question many times, who are you protesting against when you talk about civil rights violations when the president is black, the attorney general is black, the head of homeland security is black, the democrats jay nixon and lacy clay are the

believe there was a coalition of about 20 powerful black leaders in the area who have said they're going door to door looking at, you know, potentially getting people to vote republican. look, this is long overdue. and it isn't about party necessarily but it's about blacks becoming more independent in their thoughts and at least getting the democrats that could come and address the real issue. the real issue is not about a shooting of a black teen. that happened all the time in the black community about black people. the real issue is lack of jobs and lack of community and democrats patronizing blacks believing we're less and need a hand up from government. that is patently ridiculous and that needs to get out. i hope he's watching this. >> i suspect he is. i think he always is. you have four sons. what do you tell them? what's your advice? >> you know, my kid, i've always raised them -- you're an individual. it's not about a color. it's about who's really in it to

details. will, what do you know? >> reporter: good morning, guys. we're expecting the cdc to issue new guidelines today on how health care workers can interact with patients who have ebola. this comes after the wave of criticism after the two nurses came down with ebola. many pepeople wondering why the weren't wearing full bodysuits. with the new guidelines you can expect health care workers to look a lot more like those in west africa covered from head to toe. obviously to try to prevent doctors and nurses like nina pham from getting ebola. pham was transported from texas health pebs teern in dallas on thursday to the national institutes of health in maryland. when she left she was in good condition. now she's been downgraded to fair. we're told she's tired but not getting worse. >> she's not deteriorating. i cannot tell you at that particular time why we have said fair because of presidential confidentiality but she is stable and resting comfortably. >> reporter: the other nurse who

came down with ebola, amber vincent, is in stable condition at emory hospital in atlanta. vincent was allowed to fly last week into ohio and back to dallas on monday. there were report now that she didn't feel well during that trip and authorities are now monitoring 16 people who she came into contact with. another health care worker, a lab technician from texas health presbyterian, is in isolation on a cruise ship that's now returning from the caribbean. the unidentified woman handled specimens from thomas eric duncan, the liberian man who died from ebola, believed evidently would not let this woman off the cruise ship because she was trying to fly home. so now this ship is returning -- supposed to return to galveston sometime tomorrow. at the same time, texas health officials say they're not taking any chances. they've actually issued a travel ban for all of the health care workers who interacted with duncan. none of those people now are supposed to travel for the next 21 days. back to you. >> thanks, will. just goes to show you how slipshod things appear right now.

ask nurses whether or not they're prepared to handle this, listen to this new poll. national nurses united said 60% of hospitals are not prepared to deal with ebola. 76% of the nurses said the hospitals had not communicated any policy with them. earlier we talked to erin tolbert, an emergency room nurse, and she had this to say. >> we didn't get a strong message on the front. the cdc said, oh, you know, any hospital in our country can treat this disease. nurses knew it wasn't true. it obviously wasn't true the initial attempts kind of botched a little bit. we've seen, though, they're starting to take things more seriously now, you know, these patients have been transferred to the nih, to other facilities that have experience in dealing with ebola. and that should have been the original response. not every hospital is prepared to deal with this. we need a centralized location to treat these patients with hands-on experience dealing with highly infectious diseases. >> echoing the call to action what a lot of people said with these two ebola patients being

nurses were moved to different hospitals on opposite sides of the country. >> since then, that hospital has come under intense scrutiny for its lack of proper training and you are ins who didn't know what to do. one reporter witnessed the confusion first hand when she checked in complaining of similar symptoms. >> they haven't been given clear instructions. they were discussing what order they should put their protective gear on in, what order they should take it off in. there was no checklist. there was just general uncertainty. and considering the seriousness of the situation, that was severely alarming. >> this is a reporter who had interviewed mr. duncan's family and concerned that she was feeling unwell. clay jenkins is dallas county s executive of dallas county. he says this isn't over yet. the hospital may need to take on even more cases.

good morning. thanks for being with us, judge. >> good morning. good to be with you. >> can you clear up for us, were the two nurses, were they moved to emory and to the hospital in bethesda, maryland, because they're better suited to take care of these nurses or because you were trying to make more room in dallas for more patients? >> well, two reasons that went into that decision. one is this health care hero family at presbyterian has been through a lot and now 75 of them are being monitored for possible exposure to ebola. and so that takes a real toll on those individuals. but i need to make sure that we had those three isolation units open because we're still in that zone of rescuing and may see more cases and we're preparing for more contingencies not only there but in other places. >> so are you expecting more cases in your region? i know there were reports that there were some people who went

into the apartment of the liberian man who died without hazmat suits. are you expecting that they're at risk? how many people potentially do you believe in and around dallas could come down with ebola? >> well, you're not at risk if you're around a disease contact who's asymptomatic. so when you're speaking of people going to that apartment, you're speaking to one of them now. and i'm not being monitored and i don't know where the thermometer is in my house. that is some of the misinformation. but if you're around the body fluids of eric duncan, which those treating physicians and nurses were, and there's a breach in the me cal -- personal protective equipment, then you are at risk and that's who we're monitoring now. so we've had two. we have 75 more people who were around the blood and the body fluids. about 50 of those were in the

beautiful day for you here. big storm, gonzalo, category 4 storm, the strongest storm we've had in four years in the atlantic. it took a direct hit in bermuda overnight. take a look at some of the pictures of damage. we're starting to get a few pictures come in and get an idea. take a look at that, incredible damage to one of those structures. i tell you the structures in bermuda are built quite well but we're seeing some of the damage that's coming in from there, lots of power outages. overall they can handle a lot in bermuda, but this strong of a storm making a direct hit causing big problems. this storm now going to continue to pull off toward the northeast and not impact anywhere across the u.s. except bring some very, very rough seas over the next couple of days. so if you're thinking you want to get another day at the beach, be careful out there. it will be rough. eventually we'll see some impact in newfoundland and toward the uk getting some pretty significant storm by the time we get to tuesday. also watching another hurricane, ana just to the south of hawaii,
