huckabee starts right now. >> we are three days with the election and senate at stake. two can go to a run off. who has the wind to their backs and millennial voters was leaning republican and mayor of houston dropped the subpoena and one of the pastors say that is not good enough. we are live on huckabee. (applause) >> and welcome to huckabee. we are coming to you live from new york. you know, the midterm elections
9:01 pm
are this coming tuesday. what issue is driving you to vote? why don't you let us know on twitter and facebook and get your comments in the show. and the first jobs i ever had paid minimum wage. i had no intention of living my life on the lowest legal amount of money that an employer can pay. if i worked hard and exceeded expectations and i didn't stay at minimum wage very long. and this proposal is on the ballot. they passed a higher minimum wage. and the world will come to an end if the minimum wage is raised and the democrats claim it will bring prosperity to
9:02 pm
entry-level workers. there will be consequences to the 3.3 million workers. that would mean a slight pay raise for 16 percent of the american workers who currently get minimum wage. and raising the amount to 10.10 an hour would cost half million jobs including a bunch of jobs that currently pay minimum wage. this has drifted in a partisan fight. is it real empowerment of the poor or a job killer. instead of arguing over the minimum wage, why don't we help people get to a maximum wage? the truth is, families can't live on ten bucks an hour. and so if the best the democrats can lay on the table is pushing
9:03 pm
for a wage floor, i am not sure why anybody would celebrate that. wages work like an auction. if the supply is strong and demand is weak, the price will be low. and if the demand is strong and the supply is weak, the price will be high. and here is my question to you as a worker. it will be satisfied with the bare minimum the government said you can earn. what if i can help you get to a maximum wage. and would you rather make $20 an hour or $30 or $50 or more per hour. you can get them to force you to pay $50 an hour. and if you do a job anyone can do and a lot of people need jobs and in the supply chain.
9:04 pm
and even the government dumb as it can be will not require that you get $50 an hour. a master wielder and a plumbar and a register nurse and elick trician. to do those, you will have to get educated and trained. and i am not asking this. why are we fighting over keeping you at the minimum wage and we ought to be talking about getting you to your maximum wage. (applause) i would much rather help you make 50 bucks an hour and so you can buy a house and buy yourself a fishing boat. you will need less from the government and it will be more in taxes which means that you pay more in than you take out.
9:05 pm
and we'll pay down the national debt and spend that we don't have. increasing the number of weeks of unemployment where we pay you to not work, why not pay for your training to learn a skill to get you to a maximum wage. if you get suckered in to believing that a politician is looking out for you. tell him you got a better idea and tell him you can do better than minimum wage. tell him you are on the way to maximum wage. and if you do well. chip in the campaign. even if it is minimum contribution and that is maximum power. joining me is a former congressman from ohio and fox news contractor dennis kiinch.
9:06 pm
i am not a republican who hates the minimum wage because most people will figure out how to get around and cut employees, and i really do want people to make more money than $10 an hour. your thoughts on that, i know you have long advocated for a minimum wage but is that enough? >> you can certainly argue that people ought to be making more. but that argument doesn't in and way discount the fact that people ought to take their wages from 7.20 or $10 an hour as a first step. motorcycle, this you will find interesting. since 2008. 95 percent of the income gains in america went to the top one percent in terms of income and that's why so many americans are
9:07 pm
concern body wage levels. a lot of families are struggling and it becomes a moral issue in our society the wealth is accelerating to the top. people are working hard and falling behind and it is not right or fair and i see a moral dimension that needs to be addressed as well. >> i agree with you absolutely that the money is shifting with really a disporportionate since. people of wealth put it in the stock market and because we have artificially low about rates, everybody is going to the market and it is inflated, but we have moved all of the manufacturing and all of the decent jobs and outsourced them to china and other countries and therefore, americans are not making good wages and why'ren't we bringing
9:08 pm
manufacturing jobs back and throwing the flag on countries like china and give americans a decent wage. people are working harder this year than last year and got less to show for it. ngovernor, i agree with you. you have bottom 50 percent of the americans have only one percent of the wealth. you can trace the difficulty to the fact that china trade was passed and wto. andnafta. and all of these trade agreements gave them an opportunity to move jobs abroad. that is a thin allegeiance and not thinking about the world economy. we used to lead the world with manufacturing products. we need to bring jobs back and create new jobs here. and i am concerned that a lot of
9:09 pm
the good- paying jobs you advocate we need to bring them to america and have concern shown for jobs in america. >> by the way, we would do if you had a tax structure that didn't punish them and force them to move outside. i am a strong advocate of the fair tax that eliminate the capitol off american shores. i hope we can continue that. i have to request you about the primary coming up. we are just days away from it. hillary clinton made a statement off of the wall. businesses and corporations don't create jobs. congressman did she step in a pile of it when she said that? >> my question back to you is where are they creating jobs? they created jobs in china and
9:10 pm
offshore and sending out resources offshore. we need a debate over redesigning our economy and we need to put millions of americans back to work. and we take that power and restore our economy by putting americans back to worth with good wages. there is no reason why it is in the dolldrums. i appreciate the fact that you are talking about it, governor. >> congressman, i appreciate it. it is good to talk to you. we may not agree on how to get there. but americans ought to be working more and making more. and frankly, i am one of those folks who believe if we had less government chasing the businesses and jobs away we would see them.
