at him in a big way. north carolina sending another first-term democrat down to defeat. the only silver lining for democrats, new hampshire one of the most popular political figures in the granite state holding off scott brown who made it a very close race despite the fact he didn't even reside in new hampshire. this time a year ago. tucker, very exciting night last night. a big wave, what surprised you the most? >> what surprised me the most was really low campaigning didn't hurt. i always assume the nastier the spot is the more effective it is. democrats mostly ran onto things, abortion and racial division. and there is nick campaign i got uglier than this and it was nice to see those tactics reputed leaving aside individual candidates, those campaign

tactics were super ugly and i am glad they didn't work. >> inlays is like virginia, he has not secured the win yet but likely to go to a recount. very positive, which is shocking. the more negative you go tens to work but it seems this time around democrats overreached in colorado and the positive campaigns rebuking negativity pulled out some wins. >> an interesting answer to obamacare, instead of just running against the president and against obamacare, resonating in the place he was 20 points behind and he may not get the victory, but it speaks to what both parties could and should do in 2016, have ideas get people are still in survival mode. people are so desperate they want any kind of change.

i thought this was fascinating, they gave candidates the space to be more moderate and unite the party. we saw the party coalesce, they'rtheyare able to win in sta lot of people said they may not. >> they forced out candidates who did not pass the test. they did not convivince anybody. they use force pretty tactics behind the scenes to weed out anybody they thought was unelectable. >> or ron paul. it was reflected in 2016 but you bring up a good point about the internal strife. i worry about candidates and liberty pockets, they will be marginalized in the house with this overwhelming majority and actively campaigning against john boehner. >> on the heels of that, i am thinking just third party in general, what do you guys think of how that turned out? he was running so far ahead.

don't call this establishment republicans, call them traditional republicans. he would be whatever fill in the blank republican you want to put in there. interesting to see them come in and work with roberts and outside money pushing back. >> you're the independent on the couch, what do you think about the independent? >> greg orman is one of those people, there are lots of voters sick of both sides, and here is a guy, they are in the desert and look like he was the guy who had hot towels, but really another sandy maras. >> there is no independen indepy in the united states. a binary system. no more than bernie sanders.

>> it was really painful, right, to have the vice president say i think i know how greg orman would vote. >> we've got to go to the governor's races, big surprises last night. if you turned on some of the other networks, the faces of certain democratic analysts were melting off over big losses in states like maryland, illinois, massachusetts, these are deeply blue states that went republican last night and the g.o.p. was able to hold onto wisconsin, and florida. which are going to be integral states in 2016 so huge, huge stories in these governorships. >> people have really been looking to him as a fighter, somebody who doesn't back down taking on public-sector unions.

if nothing else, let scott walker win because it was so political and so important. you see an abandonment of democratic principles, in those states people are also out of work, people are doing with obamacare, people are feeling the brunt of these policies and saying forget my party affiliation, i want a job, i want to stop paying these high fees, i want some jobs and businesses, pro-business, pro-small business environment. >> the taxpayers are funding those pensions, they are the ones getting hit. in wisconsin it is an economic issue and race an abortion aren't going to get people's houses remodeled, they will not put people back to work but if you are standing up to the unions and that lower taxes allows for economic growth your state so businesses can create jobs, that is an inspiring message.

when voters asked about the direction of the nation's economy in the next year, 78% said they were worried, 72% said they weren't. these numbers scare me because this is a very pessimistic outlook people have now. this will be a challenge for anyone to try to change that pessimism to optimism. is it doable? >> it is scary. i never saw a question were 70% of the people have fallen apart. that is ominous for both parties but that is beyond politics. the people who elected republicans did so because they were so upset with the president's policies and expect pretty immediate action. lot of voters believe obamacare will be overturned or at least the caucus in the house will make some effort to do so and trust and leadership in the house have no plans i am aware of.

>> one of the things i look that is when people were asked in the exit polling about life for the next generation, 22% felt better thethan today, 40% felt it woule worse. >> so many people have fallen into poverty, it takes a generation or two ago statistically to put yourself up the run of the letter, super blessed and generally it takes longer than that. the thing that stuck in my head was the condition of the nation's economy. this is really telling. 1% said it is excellent. 1%, however most important issue facing the country, 45% say it is the economy, so most people agree that is a most important. that means nothing has changed

little more than two hours from now president obama set to hold a news conference on the election. >> the first news conference since last night stinging defeat. giving the g.o.p. some of the greatest congressional majorities in decades, and in light of a new day, revelations from fox exit polls we want to share be at bangor deep discontent toward the president. it all seems to have helped fuel the seismic changes in washington. ngryly 60% for example say they toward the president, one out of three voters say opposition to the president with a reason for their vote in house races. before we hear from the president, senator mitch mcconnell addressing the american public and while the next likely majority leader expects big changes on how congress does its business he told supporters that they expect everything to change.

right back, he's incapable of compromise and he won't, he will push through and mr. something close to it and he will attack them, you watch. >> i want to turn this into the news conference if the president were staying right here, what would you ask him? >> i would ask him if he is ready to sign on support for the keystone pipeline. i think that is an issue that should be really easy for him to answer yes. or i would ask about order security, something he shouldn't have a problem with that he will trip up and walk around in circles and expose his true words. >> if i am president obama this morning even though i feel like his ego is bruised a little bit, he has to be psyched. they have to be saying you're going to go to the podium and say exactly what tucker says, they want us to work together but he will run against republican congress and have little pen and be delighted because the best thing he could

have is an all republican congress because he can say i cannot get anything done, have to use executive action, he should be psyched right now. but ask him if he thinks is a referendum on him. if he thinks he contributed to these losses the way the exit polls say they do. on a spot about that. >> , was able to get together and somehow amended obamacare to make it more powerful to the american public, would he sign it. not dismantling it but amending it, deciding something like that if he is saying they want us to work together, this is his signature piece of legislation, if he can come together with them and crafted in a way that people can actually swallow it without going broke or choking. >> out as asked him if you put n the pen on the record of power and do something bipartisan on immigration.
