now shepherd smith reporting, live from the fox news deck. >> at last, it's thursday, thanks for joining us. teenage who rallied a community and became something of a local hero no doubt is now a grown man on the run. and at the center of a grizzly murder case. his name is sean petrizino. he has no hands and no legs. hefs an inspiration to folks in south florida when he kept on smiling after a very bad infection ate through his limbs. now 14 years later, police in central florida say, they want to question him about the murders of his mother and father. cops are careful to call him a person of interest and not a suspect, but make no mistake, there are no suspects in america post o.j., only persons of interest. and this man, without hands and without legs is a serious person of interest in orange county, florida. in the same breath, the cops warn, he has a gun, and should be considered quite dangerous.
12:02 pm
police say he went missing after his parents turned up dead at their home near orlando just this past tuesday. investigators say somebody shot them. both of them. the mom was an elementary schoolteacher, the dad reportedly a costumed character at disney world. relatives say the son had just moved back in with his parents about a week before the murders. the sheriff there in orange county put out a surveillance picture showing him at an atm in orlando at the same day the police found the bodies. he has no hands, he has artificial legs. investigators say that this guy should not be hard to spot. >> he has two prosthetic leks, and we're releasing that because it's very distinctive. if someone sees someone that looks like him and they see that he has prosthetic legs, call us. >> investigators say that he may be headed down the turnpike to south florida or down the interstate. they're not sure, but that's where he grew up and where local media featured his story back in
12:03 pm
the year of 2000. back then a write--up, out of broward county called the amputee perky, silly, and polite. at the time, years ago he told the paper, lots of important things in my life, just happen by chance. you know, you know someone and get a job that makes you millions of dollars. or you get a disease. there doesn't seem to be any reason some things happen. and now he's wanted for murder, double murder. reporter holly bristol for the orlando area is at the orange county sheriff's office this afternoon. only living with the parents for like a week, huh holly? >> reporter: that's what we're hearing. we're hearing he recently separated from his wife. they'd moved up to atlanta about a year ago according to the timeline he posted on facebook. and we're told just within the last week, that they had separated, he took the family dog, and moved back in with his parents. our newspaper partner from the orlando sentinel have talked to his mother-in-law who confirmed
12:04 pm
all of that information, and at this point in time, neighbors say they've seen him around the neighborhood a little bit, but hadn't noticed anything too out of character for him up to this point, shep. >> did they have an idea why he did such a thing and why they think he's headed to south florida? >> reporter: well, from what we're understanding, he was pretty upset about the separation with his wife. and as you mentioned just a moment ago, he did grow up in south florida. so he's got some very strong roots down there, he went to high school down there, and apparently has quite a few friends down there. police have put out a bulletin asking us to get pictures of his father's red toyota camry that they believe he is driving. license plate number 112 vzy. he is to be considered armed and dangerous. although he is just listed as a person of interest so far in this case, shepard. >> holly bristol at the sheriff's office, holly, thanks very much. coming up later, another man

12:08 pm
he is now here to speak on behalf of the university or the pentagon, he's speaking for himself. but this looks like great news, what's your thoughts on this? >> yeah, hi shep, good to be with you. i would concur with that. it's good news on several factors. may, if you recall, back in september, there were reports that we attacked the same group with an initial sult and jennifer mentioned that, and we perhaps had gotten the ring leader, 33-year-old, as you mentioned, about a week ago, i think we kind of confirmed that we perhaps did not kill that individual. in this case though, it appears that the good news, and the second dimension i want to mention here is the fact that jennifer's talking about sources on the ground, and my former colleagues at the pentagon are acknowledging there are sources on the ground. we're progressing in the last three to four months in establishing eyes and ears on the ground, and this follows the pattern of campaigns i followed from the research perspective in yemen and pakistan where once we build out an intelligence network.
12:09 pm
once we work operatives on the ground, then identifying folks like this. folks that are real challenging threats to western terrorists events and activities. we can start then to put eyes on them. to track them, monitor them, bring them under destructive fire like from the drones. >> what do you make of the accusations here though? it's one thing if this guy was trying to turn clothes into bombs, it's another thing if this guy turned clothes into bombs. if he's turning clothes on to bombs, they're getting on the plane. >> yeah, exactly. i think that's why it's important to note that our senior officials, intelligence, military, and all the way to the white house have been tracking this group carefully. what we know about them and what i've studied is they were pretty much trance yent between pakistan and different places in iran coming and going. but they were more or less, if not it would have brought down a

very five or six airliners flying out of u.k. this is welcome a december sen dent of the group. they're honoring the bombmaker who is in prison in pakistan from that effort and trying to make clothes that emulate rapidly and therefore can take out an airport cabin. i think we're monitoring this carefully. it is good news that we identified these guys. we apparently disrupted them, like agents off of an ant hill, they're better to track, and we've gone in and done one of our more patened strikes with on the ground intelligence, and followup intelligence. >> you touched on what i thought was the best news out of this whole group of all of covering, isis, they used to travel in convoys, now they have to travel separately and on motorcycles or something. because they know we have an eye on them, they know if if they do things the way they want, we can shoot them from the sky. that was the first goal, and the video evidence was there, we're disrupting them, they aren't all that. it's good to see you.
12:11 pm
colonel thomas lynch, u.s. army retired, sir, it's great, thanks. >> thanks, shep. new warning about potential terrorist oons cruise ship. have you heard this one? top officials with interpoll are telling the associated press that they're booking tickets on cruises to try to join the fight in syria and iraq. we'll show you how that could work over on the wall. turkey, of course, is bordering syria, always has. turkey, syria, iraq, and the turkish government is cracking down on the jihadists. now according to interpoll, the fighters could try to board cruise shims to turkey and sail to the country through the mediterranean and black seas. they could get off the ship and stay off so they can travel into the war zones. interpoll is pushing to expand a program that lets airlines share its watch list and cruise lines, banks, and hotels. there are other ways to do this. lots of them. but now we're talking about

quarter past the hour from fox news channel, cops say a man accused of killing his girlfriend and posting photos of her corpse online turned himself into police. investigators say 33-year-old david kalik beat his girlfriend to death in their home just west of seattle. afterwards he apparently posted several pictures on the image sharing website next to the column quote, i should say caption, turns out it's way harder to strangle someone to death than it looks on the movies.
12:16 pm

when the suspect allegedly posted the pictures of his dead girlfriend on the internet, he also posted a message that said he wanted to die by suicide by cop. shep. >> and police sort of happened upon him, is that right? >> yeah, because hours before he actually surrendered, david kalik allegedly stole his girlfriend's vehicle and drove to portland, and police chased him without knowing who it was for a while because he was driving erratically, because he was swerving into oncoming traffic they gave up the chase. then he texted a friend telling the friend the friend would read about him in the newspapers, which he did with all the statements he made, police say they were very surprised that he ended up surrendering, listen to them. >> very surprising, yeah, not just to turn himself in at a police station or somebody's just given up. really just to come out of the bushes in an empty parking lot while a patrol car is driving through. >> also a long criminal history, convictions for assault,

12:36 pm
took 15 stitches to close one near his kidney. the lawyer said his client was in critical condition been but now fox news learned he did not need surgery. prison officials say joran van der sloot did it to himself and he's trying to play the victim. of course the prime suspect in the disappearance of natalie holloway is joran van der sloot. he's serving 28 years in peru for murdering a woman he met at a kos know. that was after holloway went missing nearly a decade earlier. in july he married this woman while behind bars and she had a baby girl. as it turns out, that wife was there visiting on the same day that the other prisoner supposedly stabbed him, and at the same time the lawyers trying to get him out of this awful prison where they barely have heat, no electricity, and he wants a better way to go. again, prison officials say the injuries are all a show and they'll extradite him to the united states after he does his time in peru. president obama sent a secret letter to iran's leader.
12:37 pm
that's according to the reporting of wall street journal newspaper. sources told the journal that the president wrote to the man last month. they say he kept the letters secret to avoid creating tensions with our alleys in the middle east. the president's stressed in the letter that any corporation on isis depended on iran reaching a deal in the nuclear program via deadline later this month. but some lawmakers say the white house should have told them about this letter when which they say erases gains made with the sunny groups in the region. iran of course is majority shiite. one senior source told our capitol hill producer the letter quote f-ed up everything, unquote. now the wall street journal ed assistant managing editor. the problem is the leak. i mean, the white house will say the problem is the leak, not the letter. the people on the hill are like, why didn't you tell kpups i'll tell you why, because they would tell. anything for politics, hello. >> and this is the fourth time that obama has communicated with
