>> that does it for us. we are here every sunday on fox news channel. >> on the "buzz beater," the speech and the backlash, president obama taked unilateral action on immigration and he is doing what he said at one time he did not have the authority and the pundits hammer him from the right and pamper him from the left. >> it was a very not only historic first step but a very moving speech. >> is the media illuminating or obscure the issue? >> why did they blow off off the speech? it was sweeps week. >> and networks are cutting ties with dozen by other assault

allegations. >> there is no con set. >> a loss of innocence and the women suffered is why i am sitting here today. >> i don't care about what cosby or network or what anyone says, you will hear me. >> why didn't the women speak out earlier? are the media convicting the media over ancient allegations? >> uber threats to target silicon valley administrators. >> and we have a cbs reporter who was said to be "out-of-control." we have more on those allegations. this is "media buzz." >> the media debate over
2:02 pm
immigration was raging so long the speech felt like another scene in the scripted grandma -- drama that the networks were quick to blow off. >> some of the critics of this action call it amnesty. it is not. >> tonight there was no explanation for the complete 180 he has done other than his declaration tonight "i have the authority." >> it is not just necessariary because it is morally the right thing but we have a broken s. >> five memorial family -- five million families can come out under the shadow of fears, five million people. >> joining us to examine the coverage is a firm cbs news reporter and author of "stonewalled," and amy holmes
2:03 pm
from "the blaze," and joe trippi fox news contribute and democratic strategist. >> morning after the speech the "washington post" had a bunch of pictures with the president and the others of immigrants celebrating. are the media, in their framing, sympathetic to immigration. >> sometimes. everyone likes a happy story. you like the happy images and the media has covered the deserving immigrant whose have been discovered against and illegal immigrant whose is served the country well and face the possibility of being torn and ripped from their families. what they have not done a good job covering is the impact that it could have to have all the illegal immigrants made whole in the way the president talks. is there no legitimate opposing opinion? that is not covered. >> what is covered is the politics and the legal value but does they pay enough attention to the argument that president obama despite his previous
2:04 pm
statements, is glutting the law and the discussion? >> am i surprised? no. the mainstream media does that. the "washington post" editorrized against the action and cease already gave him upside down picocchios. >> thank you is the "washington post" "fact check are." >> this want called "protection," of illegal immigrants but is a suspension of deportation. they are buying the white house into that but i give the media credit they think he did a flip plop and called him on it. >> i think that is true, joe, "new york times" wrote a piece on past statements and you can go to the video tape but that kind of faded and it became a spin machine thing from the white house, it became kind of a he said-she said. >> some legal experts say three
2:05 pm
can and some say it is terrible. >> that is because we have both those things happening. some legal experts are saying he can't and some are not and obviously the president changes on this. that is just the fact. >> the president himself, reaps this in an interview this morning on abc with george stephanopolis and he said no, no, no, i was talking about this before and i was now talking about this. should the media emphasize this is a reversal? >> why think it is a reversal but i don't think the media has explained this. they take the clip of him saying, i'm not an emporor and take the other clip and they don't talk about the context in which he was saying that. i don't think the media has done a good job. >> how much impact does it have when the white house officials are available to on the air making the case both for the policy and the politics and the
2:06 pm
legal aspect? does it muffle the republican opposition just because it is a big megaphone? >> to some degree they try to drought out the pop -- drown out the officials when they are talking. but when they have something to tack about they call up to be on a program and, bingo, there they are. >> is this a political process story? how the republicans retaliation? will there be a shutdown? a showdown? is that evershadowing the issue of immigration? >> absolutely. right wing press has been more effective than the mainstream media on what the executive amnesty means? is it five million? what does it apply to? >> priority tiding different crime and this is reported in the right wing.
2:07 pm
the mainstream media has tenned to cover this differently is the humane interest story as you mentioned, the people who are watching and the watch meetings and the fact it was only broadcast for latino audience and now we are seeing the press going to the right wing to fine the most inflammatory quotes against the president of the united states including michele bachmann in a statement she made. she, actually; a lame duck and she is out. what does it matter? >> the president has done what he has done and the real story now has to be, how will the congress, the republicans react? >> what about the inflammatory quotes. might be sin quoted all time. >> the inflammatory quotes, there are a lot on both sides. >> we don't see the other side. that is the point. >> it depends where the story is at the time. right now the focus is where the
2:08 pm
republicans are and what is their response? unfortunately for republicans, there is always some people out there who will say inflammatory comments. with the focus not on the democrats. it was on the president, what he do there? did he? how dare he? he did it. how dare he. now, what is the republican response going to be? >> you mention latino ought convince and it was waried by uvi vision which delayed the latin grammys but i cannot let this go by without talking to abc and nbc and cbs not carrying the president's speech. what do you make of this? >> when i worked at cbs we would go back and forth all afternoon on whether to carry presidential speech, democrat or republican based on many factors going beyond news. you have a news decision and a corporate decision. it could go one way or the other but when one locks there and says we are not carrying it, it makes it easier for the others to decide.
2:09 pm
>> i thought it was a surrendering, like they were get out of the business. we see this at midterm and conventions. let me throw this out, we played a clip of sharpton, he and activists invited to the white house and he said it was a great moving speech. am i the last person who think this is a conflict of person? >> everyone thinks it is a conflict of interest. >> to get back to the networks, would refused, it was the most unwatched speech and it was very consequential speech and the networks thought big bang theory was more important. >> probably got better rating. e issued the results of a two-year investigation of benghazi including a economy controlled by the republicans said there was in coverup, or intelligence
2:10 pm
failure and in intention to deceive. a little bit, maybe, in the newspapers but should they have given all the attention that benghazi has gotten including this network should it get more coverage? >> a ton. as someone who defended the actions of the administration on this network, countless times over the last couples years on benghazi, it it deserves reaction and coverage. also, i think that part of this is what time the dump happened. it happened late friday night and minutes before a lot of --. >> sure, but "dump," if it happened and the report was critical of the administration, it would be all over the headlines, right? i am not so sure. i think benghazi a long-term ago was deemed as a right-wing obsession. >> nothing right about that. >> i think it fit in hand and
2:11 pm
glove do that but republicans are learning that kind of information goes out on a friday. >> it is fine to criticize the report as opposed to not covering and the state of the union had senator graham and he called it garbage? >> i would have offered it and i don't think they who is put it on television so i would have written it for the w." b. >> without have? >> absolutely. i was trying to cover all the developments that were relevant on benghazi and i would point out to where the findings of the committee delivered with witnesses to other committees and much of the findings were the same as joe said, and, also, there were no as, really, to the great questions which could be why it did not get more coverage. what was the president doing? why can't we see the white house foe doughs? what happened to the surveillance video. >> it was a two-year investigation and it deserved more coverage. >> don't forget to tweet at me as we like to read your messages at the end of the program and have a dire log.
2:12 pm
you can tweet me after the show is over. i talked with an executive who was going to be targeted by a uber executive. stay tuned. huh, fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. everybody knows that. well, did you know words really can hurt you? what...? jesse don't go! jesse...no! i'm sorry daisy, but i'm a loner. and a loner gotta be alone. heee yawww! geico. fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more. jesse? out for a bike ride. i didn't think i'd have a heart attack. but i did. i'm mike, and i'm very much alive.

everyone is on edge right now ferguson, missouri and the whole country and waiting to see if violence erupt ifs there is no indictment against the police officer that fatally shot michael brown. there's the constant chatter about this and the reporters and tv crews in ferguson. is it raising the attention
2:16 pm
level? >> i had a chance to talk about residents of st. louis that are very concerned. there's more media in ferguson than protestors and they see on the 6:00 news locally just wait for the violence to erupt to the point of where it seems like the media is insighting the violence. >> he works and that program airs on the local stations and here's his take on the media in ferguson. >> i think we're fanning the flames. are we making movie stars out of m them? this is one of ours that went viral. the boss loved it. >> the boss loved it. this is exactly what's going on. you can see it. even your intro of everybody's on edge and we're all waiting to see ---almost just a language
2:17 pm
that we're all using in the media that's helping to encourage this. >> we did a lot of preparation. what if it happened this morning and we were on the air. i think since a lot of outside agitators were there in the past whether we're helping to attract them. >> when you go on a news story you look for the biggest, the best, the worst, the most. they're talking about protestors and some of those people are no more than thugs that they're calling protestors and it's an issue. i don't have an answer but it is an issue. >> there's a magnification question and ten people show up but you have the zoom lends on them making it look like the whole town is ready to rumble and of course we don't know what the grand jury will do. we should make note of that. >> thanks very much. we'll seal you in a bit. ahead are the media convicting bill cosby over sexual assault

2:21 pm
at dinner the company might spend a million dollars to hire researchers to dig up dirt on them including their personal lives and the effort would particularly target one critic, sarah lacey. she joins me now from san francisco. hi sarah. >> hi howie. >> let's put aside the details for one minute. when you were in london and you got this phone call asking you for comment on him saying he was
2:22 pm
thinking of hiring someone to investigate your personal life, how did you feel? >> it's pretty horrifying. i heard a bit more of the conversation than buzz feed chose to report because buzz feed is not going to basically enact his plans and put more ideas on people's heads but it was pretty horrifying and, you know, we have been very critical of uber for a long time and i believed there's an escalation of fundamental bad behavior particularly against women at this company. i watched him sit on stage in may and say this is a political campaign and we're going to throw mud. the ceo. and at the same time, i'm shocked. i've covered companies in silicon valley for 15 years. i have written many things about them they didn't like. i've had a lot of people trash me in the valley. say they're going to run me out of the valley. call up editors and try to get me fired before i worked for myself. i thought i had seen everything
2:23 pm
but i had never heard a detailed plan that had a budget, a head count and claimed it would go after my family because that was my weak part. it was just shocking. >> right and this is not so this is michael himself at a dinner with journalists. it was supposed to be off the record and there was a mix up about that. but to understand the back story here you ripped uber for sexism and of course one person singled out by name is you and you were a woman. explain what that story was about and why you went after uber. >> we have been critical of them since 2012. we were one of the first tech publications to point out what we thought were deep concern with this company. i see this over and over again in the valley. sometimes there's intense qualities that make these companies break out successes and i think in the case of uber and the ceo, the fact that he
2:24 pm
views everyone as an enemy and he will take them out at any cost and you needed that to pioneer a service like this. given that there were real barriers to this being done in cities. i'm a huge fan of ride sharing. that said i think he carries that to an extreme. he carries that to where he is aggressive and treats journalists the same way. treats writers the same way when they claim to have been attacked in cars. treats drivers the same way when they questioned the company or had issues and i think one real -- one of the most disturbing things to me about how this story played out this week is that the board and investors will not act. i think they're terrified of him as well because he is retaliatory and he will cut them out of future rounds. right now this is one of if not the most highly valued companies in silicon valley in a crazy boom time. look at valuations. >> you have decided you're not toning down your criticism but
2:25 pm
now amir michael apologized to you by e-mail and also tried to call you. do you in anyway accept his apology? >> no, he called me off the record after the story ran which they had known about it for several days. no one reached out to me before. he asked if we could talk off the record. i said no. i think frankly this is an incredibly important issue for the first amendment not to mention there their attitudes toward women and the fact that women are trusting them with their lives when they get in an uber car and my readers and their writers and journalists deserved an explanation on the record and i wasn't going to be part of back room games so he hung up the phone and 40 minutes later he tweeted why he e-mailed me an apology and then we saw the bizarre 13 tweet apology and the very next day they have their celebrity spokesperson ashton kutcher come out and say
2:26 pm
what's so wrong with what they propose and then since then you've seen a friend write that's not what was said at dinner at all. in fact he was saying we should have a coalition of journalists. if that's what he said, why did he apologize for his comments. >> we have a half a minute. >> it was a version of what they said. >> well, he was venting, he didn't really mean it. obviously you don't bye that. >> no, because on one level he's saying he's sorry and he's venting and later on he has friends coming out and saying that's not what he said. okay did you say it and is it inhul and horrible and doesn't represent your views as you said on tuesday or now as you have said on friday is that not what happened and i'm being hysterical and overreacting. >> sarah lacey thank you for getting up early in california to talk about this important story. we appreciate it. >> thanks howie. >> ahead on media buzz new e-mails in the fast and furious investigation show the white

nuclear negotiations with iran have hit a brick wall with tomorrow's deadline if an agreement now only hours away. secretary of state john kerry is meeting with iran foreign minister in vienna but as the clock tick down they are pretty far aside. president obama called this began "significant." the sons proposing that the talks be extended in hopes of avoiding a complete breakdown. >> lift off to the international space station. a short time ago a rocket behalfed off from was action -- from kazakhstan carrying a

three-person crew to prepare to receive commercial space craft -- get me up there, people, i love to travel. it will orbit the earth four times before docking later tonight. >> see you at 7:00 p.m. eastern with the fox report. >> first bill cosby made us ugh. w heakin >> nbc has canceled comedy series that cost difficult was developing and necessary film delays a series and more women are stepping in front of television cameras to allege he did terrible things to them along ago. >> we went up to his bungalow after and he made me a drink and shortly after that i just passed out. i woke up or came to very groggy and he was removing my
2:32 pm
underwear. >> why wouldn't you say something to someone? >> it's the guilt and the shame of the victim. >> i, like everyone else, thought bill cosby is hilarious, great standup comic and three was supposed to be a mentor to you. what happened? >> he was america's favorite dad, everyone wanted him to be their dad. i warned him to be my dad. >> after dinner, in my room, he had given me wine and a pill and the next morning i woke up and i want wearing my pajamas and before i passed out i remember that i had been sexually assaulted by this man. >> did you tell anyone about this? >> i can't remember that. i don't want to implicate anyone because bill cosby is a very powerful man. >> given that some of these are
2:33 pm
alleged to have happened three decades ago. is the coverage pair? >> we have an anchor for arise tv and in washington, dc, television media critic for the ""baltimore sun"." >> "washington post" has for full pages including a new interview with a former "playboy playmate". as they come out with remarkably similar stories why is it suddenning getting so much media traction although they are alleged to have taken place long ago. >> circling back to a comic who reference the cosby and referring to him as a rapist and that trigger renewed interest in the case. i am not sure if the comic does not make this part of the standup act we would talk about it but he did and that spurred people to go on to the internet and research bill cosby and his history as allegedly being a serial rapist that drugs women but also started the conversation surrounding rape
2:34 pm
and rape survivors and the culture. we have seen a shift in the culture at large and more and more rape survives feel more comfortable with the idea of telling their story because they found communities on the internet. >> david, his lawyer is calling these allegations increasingly difficult and the media vilification of cosby. since high has not been convicted it is fair to be throwning him overboard? >> they have a right to do it. that is, really, another reason, i agree with lola, that is a business reason why you are not getting this critical mass and the momentum of this story. look, he made more money for nbc than anyone in the history of the world. in corporate america that is a scholarship to life. for them to pull out, that said,
2:35 pm
whoa. netflix, smartest marketers in the industry, when they pull out, and now you have tv land essentially starting a process where he is being erased from tv history, that is profound. that momentum in midweek happening wednesday last week, this story kicked in another gear. it did. that drove it. >> when you see the pain in the women's pace and i cannot say they are all true but it is hard they are all making up remarkably similar stories of, drugged and assaulted or rained by bill cosby but they are always subject, why did you wait so long and first talk in fix televison when this got a little bit of attention or in 2014? >> a number of women have said they felt ashamed and fear and like david said, this person was at one time the most power will man in hollywood and if you are 19-year-old girl who has been victimized it is not in your
2:36 pm
best interest if you want to have a career in the entertainment industry to go up against a giant. again, be clear: he has not been found guilty but it is still if you are 19 years old, young girl, who claims to have been rained and drugged by one of the most powerful men in hollywood, chances are society is going to believe america's favorite father, america's most power will man in hollywood over you. >> very hard to take on a slow business giant like cosby. >> in one case, it was investigated and the prosecution said they did not have enough evidence and a suit was settled out of court. >> until recently, david, cosby was never asked. he has been interest offed a million times. were the media preserving access and protecting him? >> with the a.p. interchange we saw how access -- it is caughted cultural reporting now.
2:37 pm
when i started it was show business or entertainment reporting. that is the game they play. i fought this for 30 areas, the kind of kissup interviews you do for access. my access is now zero because of that. that is part of it. there is another thing here. during the 70's, during the 80's, and i was covering all of this, he was a role model to me, even, i had what kind of respect, i grew up with his comedy hours. america loved bill cosby. that is a reason this whole thing, whoever you believe in this mess, is so painful. >> there be -- would be no appetite at any mainstream american newspaper, if we brought facts they would say yes but a gay of this stature you have to have it locked down. that is one of the reasons it was hard for the women. i would never try to figure out
2:38 pm
the school of being assaulted. that is horrible. beyond that, they have reasonably understood there was an establishment, a media establishment that didn't want to hear this. >> someone made the observation that cosby place us feel good about race relationships and he is 77. he was attempting a come back. does this containing forever the way most americans will view bill cosby? >> this may have done irreparable damage to his legacy but he performed in florida recently, sold out crowd, 2,000 people showed up and he received a standing ovation so...there are clearly a new of people who either don't believe the alleges or are not going to allow the allegations to keep them from seeing bill cosby perform. they still appreciate him as a performer, appreciate the man's work. they may not appreciate the man but they appreciate he is a phenomenal comedian.
2:39 pm
>> if i were writing his obituary prior to this week, this is mentioned pretty far down in the story. >> or at all. >> now it is right after his name, his ground breaking career was damaged by these allegations. that is the lead. it is not going away. and the television industry is not going back with him. why care what happens. >> damage criminal steadfasting refusing to address the allegations... >> new e-mails show a justice department official promising to complain to the bosses of sharyl attkisson's bosses over "fast and furious." it says here that a won's sex drive
