and the officer who saved their lives speaks out about their harrowing ordeal and incredible rescue. we begin with a fox news alert in ferguson, missouri, officers made more arrests overnight after protesters blocked traffic near the city's police and fire departments following the grand jury's decision not to indict darren wilson in the shooting death of unarmed black teenager michael brown. obviously the protest continue around the country. this comes as a smaller than expected crowd right now is gathering for what they bill as a 120-mile long naacp march calling for reforms in the ferguson police department. mike is in ferguson live where at least some of the protesters are assembling. how many do we have? >> reporter: well, it looks like that particular demonstration ended up kind of small. i'll give you a tour here of the boulevard. this is where so much of the

restaurant, we saw the fire burning through the evening. now that we have a good look at what's left, a lot of credit has to go out to law enforcement officers because frankly on tuesday morning, monday night, it looked like it was going to be worse than what we see here today. >> mike, you've been covering this since it began so long ago back in the summer you were there during the violence. do you get a sense a week out that the anger is sub siding or is everybody taking a break before there's another round of violence? >> reporter: it's a tough call. there certainly is a lot of palpable anger. if you go to the canfield apartments where you have the growing memorial, you get people who get angry with you almost immediately when you get back in that area. in terms of organized demonstrators and groups willing to come start the fires, it looks like that is dying off. the pressure has been let out of the soda bottle.

obama would later sign at a computer at his desk. that is according to an item -- johnson told the president he couldn't impact 7 million immigrants the same way a comprehensive senate bill would have or he could take steps that would stop deportations for 5 million of them. congressman elect dave brat has a lot to do with -- shortly after the stance on immigration, the president saw speaker boehner at the white house for professional golfers event. the speaker told the president the chances of passing immigration legislation in the house of representatives had quote, vanished -- narrowed almost to the vanishing point. this revelation happened at that point border states were dealing with an unprecedented number of

of hundreds of protesters during the 2011 arab spring uprising that really ended his nearly three decade reign nearly 900 protesters were killed during the 18 days of demonstrations. by the way, egypt's former interior minister and his aides were also acquitted of the same charges. outside the courtroom and is go, mubarak supporters selt brated the judge's decision by singing and dancing in many cases others, including relatives of those killed by security forces during the uprising held pictures of their loved ones and screamed that mubarak should be executed. now the ruling comes just a day after deadly protests and demonstrations as we reported against current egyptian president al sisi, the

10:15 am
looking pretty good here. this time yesterday we were 10 degrees cooler in kansas city, 20 degrees cooler in chicago, 13 degrees cooler in memphis. so a lot of the country enjoying some relatively warmer air. tomorrow's highs we're seeing the cold front sink southward still getting very nice across the south. 60s and 70s and monday, yes, back to reality here, back to november, december weather. there are some snow showers across the great lakes in the northern plains accompanying -- oh, my god, too much celebrating, showers and some snow showers6wn along this cold front that's moving southward. then we're also going to be dealing with wet relief for california. they really need to see the moisture. that's going to happen this weekend as the storm system moves inland. even though it's wet weather, they are thinking it's liquid gold in southern and central california. back to you. >> accompanying. >> accompanying -- i know, it's

10:22 am
thanks for joining us. chris, last week vice president biden said he was ticked off how the president forced out chuck hagel who by the way happens to be a long time senate colleague of his. i don't think he was very happy with that decision. what does it say about the disconnect between the president and his staff to push out hagel after less than two years appointing him to the position? >> i mean, listen, some of this is the normal course of events in d.c., administration's will have certain changes they'll make in cabinet positions and you obviously saw with president bush, secretary rumsfeld was resigned or pushed out depending on how you want to define it, following the mid-term elections during president bush's second term. i always thought personally it was kind of an odd fit. i like secretary hagel personally but it just didn't seem to be a relationship that kind of clicked. now, i will say that there
10:23 am
are -- there are clearly tensions in every white house between the white house staff and the cabinet. you may argue one way or the other. it may be more so administration. i don't see it that way. i think it's kind of par for the course. lots of big egos and big agendas and sometimes that leads to conflict. >> would you agree, this is par for the course the way president obama is handling his own people? >> the way i see it president obama is the problem and that is why you have a number of democrats being vocal and criticizing obama about what he's doing. and you also have to think about the results of the recent midterm elections and how a number of republicans have now come into office. there's also a gallup poll that is very interesting. obama had in 2009, 48 prosecution of support among noncollege graduates of the middle class. now it's 27%. clear ly obama's big government
10:24 am
policies are not working and people are not happy about it, including the democratic party. >> the white house has been accused of micromanaging national security policy. is it selectively listening to experts on how to handle iraq and isis? many say president obama makes decisions on his own and doesn't necessarily listen to the experts he hires to give him the proper advice, almost as what's the point of having the experts there if he's not going to take the advice? >> well, there's always going to be a degree, if you will of micromanaging from the white house because he's the president of the united states. that's going to be true for every president, every administration. i think the difference here is you're talking about some incredibly complex foreign policy challenges, whether you're talking about the ukraine, the rise of isis, these are i think fundamental issues in terms of what is the right course or policy that creates a lot of debate. in the course -- in the context of president obama's
10:25 am
administration, you also have this unique dynamic where his chief of staff is a national security expert which i think creates another element to this, where you have multiple voices in the president's ear. but at the same time, with the same time people are saying, he's not listening to his defense secretary. people are also sitting on the flip side saying he has a close relationship with general dempsey the head of the joint chiefs. this is again, i think part of this is washington making something bigger than it is -- at the same time, it's a challenge. >> yeah. >> go ahead. >> when you hear from the vice president himself and former allies like former -- >> in fairness, in fairness -- >> let's talk about hillary clinton, in an interview with hillary clinton, the former secretary of state criticized obama's principle of foreign policy and her words are pretty strong. great nations need organizing principles and don't do stupid stuff is not an organizing principle. deneen, what do you make of her comments?
10:26 am
>> i can't wait until the clinton machine is really unleashed to be critical of president obama, get the popcorn ready. he should have been more in tuned and listened to those on the ground when it came to foreign policy. listen, obama has lied to americans, losing credibility and this is what we're witnessing now and he really brought it on himself. that is why his popularity is dropping like a stone. >> the fact that hillary clinton is distancing herself from the president's policies, p doesn't look good but why weeks after making that statement about stupid decisions essentially, she made a rare public statement of support for mr. obama's executive action to grant work permits to 5 million illegal immigrants. some will say it's dangerous for her to side with his immigration policy. why did she do that? >> well, i would say a couple of things, with respect to the report about vice president biden, those are unsubstantiated. as far as i know he didn't say
10:27 am
that on the record anywhere. >> reporte with respect to fomer secretary clinton, you'll have differences of opinion between the current holder of the white house and what may be a campaign for the white house. they'll have different reperspectives an how to deal with big challenges or domestic policy. that is not surprising, at the end of the day you'll see more commonalty. i think we have to be careful about exaggerating how these -- >> but, julie -- >> deneen, i have to ask you real quick by siding with the president on immigration, he is alienating the black community, is he not? >> absolutely. >> is she not? is this her way of trying to soften up the hispanic community? >> she's probably doing both ways, you mention a black community with immigration and jobs that go to the illegal individuals, they are siding more with the illegal individuals versus americans,
10:28 am
where unemployment is still unacceptable high among the black community. it is going to be detrimental. >> that's all the time we have, thank you very much to the both of you. >> great story now, two young boys buried alive are now able to express thanks to the local police who helped save their lives. the cousins were trapped in a snow bank right there, for eight hours after a plow operator pushed the snow over them. they say they did everything they could to free themselves. >> i was punching, punching everything. i was moving my shoulders, bad, moving everything so i could get more space. >> he had more space than me. i couldn't really move. if i could have sat up, i could have got my legs out and at least made more space but there was a big block of ice on my chest, i couldn't move. >> incredibly brave young men. one of the officers on the scene said even though they were confident the two were in the snow bank, they weren't sure
10:29 am
what they were going to find. >> i started digging and when i hit the boot, i tried to stay positive but a lot of thoughts go through your mind, the officer next to me saw the boot move, we preel liesed they are still alive and we have to get them out as soon as possible. >> get them out they did. it started with the kids parents frantically searching for them around 10:00 p.m. last night when the boys didn't come home from building a snow fort. today as you can see, both boys say they are feeling pretty well. >> that's a good outcome. >> new isis attacks on pt syrian border town of kobani, and former baltimore ravens running back, ray rice winning his appeal of an indefinite suspension? a full report on the decision at his future in football. i minimize my sodium and fat... gotta keep it lean and mean. pear: uh-oh. heart: i maximize good stuff like my potassium...

10:37 am
able to launch this type of attack this sophisticated right inside kabul? >> it shows unfortunately that for all of the time, money and effort and lives we have spent there, taliban still are a force to be reckoned with. they wants that message out that as u.s. and nato and western countries lead that indeed they the taliban intend to be the dominant force throughout afghanistan. >> as you point out, so much fortune and blood has been spent in afghanistan. now you're saying the taliban says they want to come back. that's who we kicked out in the very beginning of 2002. in that part of the world. do they have that ability to come back? has all of that blood and fortune been for naught? >> i think the results up to this point show they are able to. they've run a lot over the last few months as you know, a lot of devastating attacks against afghan police and army positions and shown their strength across
10:38 am
the country. it's too bad that we did indeed have them defeated at one time and then ran off to play in afghanistan and let them come back. we had most of the afghan population on our side after we went in there in 2002. it's too bad that that all fell apart. nonetheless, it has fallen apart. we've seen the taliban continue to grow effectively. they are happy we're leaving and i think they are a little unhappy the president made a change about 9500 troops that are going to stay in terms of what the troops will be allowed to do. that's all the more reason for the taliban to take a lot more shots at us to show of the 9500 troops that remain and new policies which allow u.s. troops to engage them, that they intend to be fully engaged without a doubt. >> this recent change from a static use of u.s. troops, training of the military and we are learning they may take part in some type of special operations role, some type of combat missions, is that enough
10:39 am
troops in all of afghanistan, 9500? >> that's such a great question. if we're looking at the small specialized raids that our special ops guys did so well, much like the raid on bin laden. in multiple places in afghanistan and indeed in iraq. president karzai in afghanistan put a stop to those kind of raids. that gave the taliban a lot of freedom of moment that they didn't have. if we go back to the stage under the new president of afghanistan, if we go back, president ghani said we can run for aggressive air operation. i think 9500 troops and those capabilities may help us as we continue to build the afghan army and afghan police -- the burden has to be on them. >> to your point, we'll see what happens if that is enough and afghans are able to fight their own war. i want to get your response to this. we may not like the message here but the syrian foreign minister
10:40 am
said the u.s.-led strikes have failed to weaken isis, months of air strikes and tens of millions of dollars and syrians are saying, these guys are exactly the same as they were before. do you buy that? >> unfortunately i do. we've certain run a lot of strikes in the kobani area and done things to them. but i think probably for everyone of knows isis people we've killed, another ten crossed the border from turkey and foreign fighters come to join turkey's somewhat kplis it. we're still -- kobani may be a good story at the end of the day, we're not really running the kind of offensive operations in syria or indeed even in iraq at this point that will destabilize, degrade and ultimately destroy isis, that's our stated purpose. >> to your point, the turkish border, to come across the syrian foreign minister pointed out as well.
