news alert. a $1.1 trillion spending bill is on the way to the president's desk. overnight the senate voted 56-40 to approve the bill and avoid a government shutdown. the measure provides money to keep the majority of the government running through september before voting on the spending bill. texas senator ted cruz pushed lawmakers to fight the president's new immigration policy by voting on whether it's even legal. >> one month ago president obama announced unprecedented executive amnesty in direct conflict with the immigration laws passed by congress. tonight both democrats and republicans will have the opportunity to show america whether they stand with the president who is defying the will of the voters or will the millions of americans who want a safe and legal immigration system. >> well, the measure failed but republicans are vowing to bring the issue back up in the new year. the democrats also used a saturday session to push through approval for two dozen stalled nominations by the president.

foul play now suspected in the disappearance of a wyoming grandmother. 61-year-old kristy richardson vanished back in october. her cell phone was found locked inside her home with the car in the garage. police don't have enough evidence to show a crime, but they say she may have been targeted by a former employee of the company she owned. and it just keeps getting uglier for sony. new e-mails leaked by hackers reportedly reveal executives slamming leonardo dicaprio while gushing over ryans gosselin. in one of his decisions to pull out of a movie, they call his movie despicable. they also slam med jaden smith.

we have problems out there. the east coast not where we are dealing with it. the south had another spectacular day today and we are dealing with the pesky system t maine. but overall, nothing to worry about. across the west this is where the action is around parts of california. then that storm is now pulling out across parts of the central rockies. today that injects into the central plains. this morning we have the snow across areas of colorado. watch what happens this afternoon with severe weather developing across parts of oklahoma, kansas and north texas. then snow back behind this in the western parts of nebraska, northeastern areas of colorado and parts of wyoming and montana seeing the snow. then look at that, the next rainstorm moves in across california tonight and tomorrow and by tuesday across parts of southern california. temperaturewise, another very warm day across the plains. enjoy 61 in kansas city. that does begin to change by tomorrow. you're at 53 and going to tuesday you're back to the 30s where you typically should be this time of the year. >> maybe the warmer temperatures

are why thousands of people came out yesterday for the protests around the country. they did. in washington, new york and cities across america. in washington the rally was held by the reverend al sharpton, host of msnbc's program. and there he is, sharpton got up to explain we're not against the police. this was his claim. >> hands up! hands up! >> we are not saying our police are bad. we are not even say iing most o them are bad, we are not anti-police but we are anti-brutality. and the federal government must have a threshhold to protect that. second, the justice department must have a division funded to deal with this. and thirdly, we must have the power of special prosecutors, not the local prosecutor.

>> so first we heard people saying, we want the cops dead. and the second, we heard al sharptop say we are not against the police. >> a lot of protesters were weariwea wearing shirts that said, we are not wearing thug pins. >> i was trying to get around town and of course traffic was snarled by this. there were 25,000 people according to some estimate that is were taking to the streets. so largely they feel strongly about this. and largely it was peaceful. i didn't hear anybody say, what do we want? dead crops. there are always bad apples in this. i kept hearing them say, hands up, don't shoot. and i can't breathe. >> they were making this a racial issue. i don't have any problem with the conversation about police brutality. i don't want the police to look like delta force. that's a real conversation, i may engage with them. i may agree with them.

but these are not examples of racism and it is totally unhealthful to make this a conversation about white versus black. and it's ridiculous to have al sharpton who is a criminal. >> where is the outrage when a police officer gets killed in the line of duty? >> much of the criticism and even the people affected by the violence have come out to say, look, mr. sharpton, don't turn this into a rodeo. don't block our streets and turn this into a circus. address the real issue in our community which is the family breaking down. >> because it's too hard. it's so much easier, and the president of the united states is doing the same thing, it's a lot easier to bring racism into being america's biggest problem. you pass the buck by saying that. there's nothing you can do about it. and it takes the focus off you. you don't have to do anything about the massive unemployment in the black community or the crime in the black community, those are the real issues, but

melted, especially across parts of the northern plains and around the great lakes where we thought we would have a big snow pack to stick with us. temperatures are 20 degrees above average to keep it and will start to melt the snow. here's the forecast for the day across the northeast. we'll put this in motion with cloud cover, but for the most part, not a bad day. we are finally seeing the exiting of the system that has been plaguing us for the last five days. down across parts of the southeast and the carolinas, georgia, florida, you're looking good. but we'll have big thunderstorms popping up across parts of texas and oklahoma throughout the afternoon. into the northern plains, it's the same system to bring the rain to california. now it's ejecting into the central plains. you can see the rain spreading across kansas and into nebraska, but behind it the colder air comes in and we'll see pretty significant snow across the panhandle of nebraska. some areas up to about 6 inches of snow overnight. then out across the west, there you go with the same system to bring snow to parts of colorado. mostly clear across arizona and then california later on tonight

published a manpower study that we summarized to ask employers, where are they expecting to hire the most city by city? >> the idea here is that sometimes if you want to work you have to move. and that's bad news, but for some people that's the reality. so where are you most likely to get a job? >> well, it does matter. price to work matters, a lot of conditions matter around the job. the big picture from employers is that 19% are expecting next year, this is estimating quarter one of 2015, to increase staff levels while 6% are saying decrease. so what that translates to around the country is a very different look at the job picture. according to what employers are saying, what we see in top areas, border areas are both california, texas and florida are showing strong indications of gapes. and weaker areas across washington state and new york state. you can zoom in on any of the regions and talk more in detail. >> so you say the strongest

cities for employment looking forward, the first is cape coral, florida. a city devastated by the subprime meltdown on the west coast of florida. there it is. >> zooming in, cape coral has strong growth by employers. looking at net employment outlook of 32%. way ahead of the national average across other cities. looking at hospitality, tourism, driving a lot of that. florida is doing very well, even in this economy. cutting taxes, getting their job performance and really trying to compete more with texas. >> okay. great. and speaking of texas, you say mcallen, texas, down in the southern part of the state, which is -- >> they are way down along the mexican border. >> right down there. >> mcgowan, texas, has not been prosperous over the years but it is roaring back and one of the best places to look for a job right now. >> a 20% outlook there. right on the border with u.s. trade between texas and mexico. strong performance expected

overnight, a government shuts down and put to a stop. members of the senate voting 56-40 passing a $1.1 trillion spending bill. >> the bill is keeping the government running through next september and is on its way to the paresident's desk. what should we plan on happening next? >> does this mean there's nothing republicans can do anyway about the president's executive amnesty? >> i think that's exactly right. i think their feeling is, you know, better to try to deal with it in the majority of the house and senate starting next year.

this funding bill gives enough money for the entire government to run until next september, except for the department of homeland security which overseas immigration policy. and that's only funded until the end of february. so i think you're going to see in the first two months of the new congress with the new republican majority efforts to see if there are ways that they can undo the president's executive action. but it's going to be awfully difficult. you know, justice is going to be very hard. it's hard to defund a decision not to defer, not to deport people. there's not a lot of money spent on not deporting people. >> there are two narratives i found interesting out of this. one is ripped inside the democratic party with nancy pelosi calling members of party to vote for it. and you have members of the republican party saying speaker boehner squandered the midterm

election victories. what do you make of the two narratives? >> i think they are both exactly right. there are splits. we have known for some time, of course, and have reported it a lot about the split inside the republican party. we saw it in the senate where ted cruz and some of the tea party wings of the gop went against mitch mcconnell who left the senate on friday and thought they for done for the weekend. then ted cruise tried to go after the immigration executive order. and for us, this whole weekend session, manager connell had to come back embarrassed. so that continues. for the first time, we really saw a lot of the left wing of the democratic party defying the president. really led by liberal senator elizabeth warren in the senate who went after the provision in the spending bill, a rider attached to it to lack the financial regulations on wall street. and she got tremendous support

in the house up to the minority leader, including the democratic leader, nancy pelosi. what is so interesting is this bill passed the senate and the house as well on a bipartisan basis with both democrats and republicans who were standing up against sort of the wings that the more extreme it logical parts of their party. which raises the question, are we going to see more centrist establishment coalitions of democrats and republicans working against the far left and the far right of the parties? >> chris, also the cia interrogation report is a hot topic. you have guests on that today? >> we do. we'll be all over that, anna. first of all, we'll have a fascinating debate about the program. was it torture? was it effective? does this mislead the white house and congress? a debate between sheldon whitehouse, a senator from rhode island who was involved in the report, and carl rove in the
