fbi coming out yesterday and pointing the finger directly at north korea for the massive cyber attack at sony and making terrorist threats against people who would go to see the movie, the interview" on christmas day which prompted it to be pulled from theaters. president obama came out and said he has no indication that any other country was working with north korea and had strong words for sony, saying it's a mistake to not release the movies. sony executives quickly fired back. >> we have not given in. we have per severed and not backed down. we always had a desire to have the american public see this movie. >> i'm sympathetic that sony as a proist company was worried about liabilities and this and that and the other. i wish they had spoken to me first. i would have told them, do not get into a pattern in which you're intimidated by these
10:03 am
kinds of criminal attacks. >> in response to the president's statement, the ceo said the only decision sony has made so far is not release the movie on christmas day after theater owners decided to not run the movie with sony's approval and sony saying they would like to get it out there in a different platform. in response to that the hackers presumably from north korea sent an e-mail yesterday warning not to distribute the movie in any form. at the same time a number of celebrities have come out and are concerned what this means for self-krens orship and the first amendment rights and the impact this will have on controversial movies moving forward. >> thank you very much. eric? >> julie, in cuba, the parliament backing castro's decisions to resume diplomatic relations with the united states and the cuban leader is demanding the united states respect cuban rule on the island

congress to get rid of the economic sanctions. so there's a little bit more splash than cash in this announcement. but what the president has done in essence legitimized a terrorist thug. >> but the president con tends that normalizing relations with cuba will give the u.s. a greater opportunity to have influence without government. but he said not to expect immediate reform in cuba. >> this is still a regime that represses its people. and as i said when i made the announcement, i don't anticipate overnight changes. but what i know deep in my bones is that if you've done the same thing for 50 years and nothing has changed, you should try something different if you want a different outcome. >> president obama says he has no plans to travel to cuba at this point. but secretary of state john kerry, who will begin the

are said to be making victories in the bordertown of kobani. here's the latest from our middle east bureau. hello, john. >> reporter: as you know, this has been a bloody tug of war for control of kobani, the syrian bordertown. but as you mentioned, kurdish forces have been making gains. they've reportedly recaptured 16 neighborhoods that have been under isis control since september. this is really allowed the kurdish fighters to push those isis militants back from fighting positions and with help from the u.s.-led coalition air strikes. officials in pakistan say a u.s. drone fired two missiles killing five militants in waziristan, it's been a strong militant

strong hold for a long time now. and in a separate operation, security forces killed five other taliban fighters on the outskirts of peshawar, where the school massacre happened earlier this week. since then pakistani security forces have been hitting taliban targets with air strikes and of course as mentioned, ground assaults as well. so far pakistani officials say 200 pakistan militants have been killed and the number could be growing. >> john, maybe they are making gains against isis, thank you so much. >> the state department issuing a warning to americans traveling abroad. listen up, the worldwide alert advising people traveling outside the u.s. to be extra cautious over the holidays. the department says u.s. citizens should be mindful that terrorists can pose unp unpredictable threats in public

bit of snow but not much. it's a little too warm for big snow activity but this area, the northwest yes, several inches of rain along the coast and over a foot, 2, maybe 3 feet of snow for mountainous regions, here are your winter storm advisories stretching down to colorado if you're skiing for the holiday season in the rockies, things look pretty good. let's take a look at it, over 3, 4 feet in some cases of snow. this is part of the energy that's going to make up our big storm for the holiday. so christmas eve into christmas we'll be watching this for the great lakes. midwest, even towards northeast and mid-atlantic. here's what we're thinking, a few days out, we'll really fine tune this forecast as we head into sundays. this is christmas eve. rain and wind will certainly cause delays from the mid-atlantic to the northeast. that's going to cause a ripple effect and we're looking for snow and mixture of the two from the upper midwest and great lakes. this low will move into canada
10:11 am
but we'll see rain and very strong winds along the northeast for christmas day. mainly a rain event for the coastal areas. here's where we're thinking we're going to see a white christmas, certainly along the rockies and northern plains, upper midwest and chicago you'll get the brunt of that christmas storm. we'll certainly keep a watch over you and interior sections of the northeast and reminder tomorrow is the first official day of winter and it's really going to start to feel like winter as we head into next week and even the week after that as all of this cold air pulls southward. we had it relatively easy over the last couple of weeks but then that big, big arctic plunge will happen the week after christmas. eric and julie, back to you. >> thankfully the reindeer and rudolph and santa and sleigh, weather proof. >> they'll be in contact with me. i'll give them the latest details. >> make sure they get there on time. >> all right. >> much more on holiday travel coming up. how to make it easier for you, later on in this hour.

10:18 am
take actions the united states opposes. did the u.s. get the raw end of the deal? >> we didn't get anything out of the deal. we could have made a prisoner exchange as was done in the cold war often without doing this. the president is on his own philosophy bend here of what he wants to do. he couldn't have picked a worst time in my opinion while we have negotiations with the iranians and ukraine. what he said was i'll roll over for anybody, i think. that was a bad move and let me say this, for a man who promises he wants to get along with congress, he didn't consult anybody in congress about this, either about it or about the timing. >> that's a good point. angela, he didn't consult congress. and the timing in all of this seems off. >> it does seem off and julie, he worried more about his legacy, president obama is, than worried about compromising with the new republican congress. the majority of republicans are
10:19 am
hawkish regarding this issue. they don't want trade relations with cuba besides rand paul. rand paul believes peace through commerce, yes, let's have peace through commerce and we do have trade relations with communist china. when you negotiate a deal, julie, what criteria do you mut in place to make sure americans are successful as well as lower class and middle class cubans. you don't have an american console ate in cuba, can american businesses do business as they do in china? a lot of things have not been put in place for us to be victorious. >> the president says he hopes to have more of an influence on cuba's government and i think we all know in history speaks for itself, cuba isn't a nation that welcomes change, certain not directives from the united states but he says -- change will come to cuba. can we believe such a thing is
10:20 am
even >> we all hope some day it does -- >> under a castro regime? >> i don't think so under a castro regime. and i don't think we've seen that for some time. you know, this notion, i'm interested in the way the camp breaks it down. rand paul represents angela says he represents a camp of people free markets will do anything, let's do this. the truth is i can point out to you, we had a lot of time to -- the free markets none the least of which is china, which has a quasifree market system. if you're going to be for freedom, you have to be for freedom. we got nothing out of this, nothing that says they will stop doing what they have done as cubans in venezuela, running the secret place there. venezuela is about to collapse because of oil prices, that's been holding cuba hup. the timing couldn't have been
10:21 am
worse and at least should have gotten some pressure on some for something -- >> the humanitarian crisis there alone is alarming. they do not operate the way that the western world -- we do not work the same way, the way they treat their people for us to have any sort of relationship with them as long as they continue to sacrifice the livelihood of their entire nation, just seems a little backwards. >> one quick second -- work around the world to hurt us -- >> it's a good point, angela. >> no, pat. >> talk about this diplomacy. do you believe this is a new era of diplomacy? history has proven itself, the mess between u.s. and cuban relations isn't going to be easily resolved. where is this going and is diplomatic efforts at this point null? >> we lost in diplomatic efforts again. there's no business footprint
10:22 am
development in place, there's no american conso so lat in cuba. if we're going to do business with cuba, right now what whatever we do will make the castro regime richer. it's not going to help lower class cubans or middle class cubans and american businesses able to do business in cuba as we do in china. you have apple in china and a lot of companies operating in china. basically i believe that president obama even though the secretary of state is going over there for the first time, i believe we've lost and we gain nothing. >> that's all the time we have, interesting debate. thank you very much. >> thank you. >> julie, the cuban deal is front and center as republicans jockey for position a little more than a year from the first presidential primaries,

headlines include the dust-up between rubio and rand paul over the change in policy towards cuba and jeb bush exploring a run for the white house and ben carson is heading to israel to share his support. here's a look ahead to 2016. sometimes it's not too early. >> never too early, more than a year away from the iowa caucuses, pick any issue in the news right now becoming the latest sparring topic for those in the 2016 republican scramble. republican, president obama bombshell announcement on cuba provided the latest topic for everyone to draw battle lines. former florida governor jeb bush said he was seriously considering a run quickly issued a statement condemning the president saying the beneficiaries of president obama's ill-advised move will be the heinous castro brothers. ted cruz and rick perry joined

in the bashing of the president. >> i intend to use every tool at our disposal in the majority to unravel as many of these changes as possible. i do so not out of any animosity towards the administration but out of animosity towards the cuban regime's repression of the cuban people. >> standing virtually alone among the pack and highlighting his own brand of free market conservatism. rand paul tweeted, hey, at marco rubio, if the embargo doesn't hurt cuba, why do you want to keep it? his facebook page explained more and echo the obama administration's talking points. i'm a pro ponant of peace through commerce and engaging cuba can lead to positive change. we're now more than a year away from the iowa caucus. each of the possible contenders will have to position themselves for the primaries dominated by the most conservative

california. instead our government says they did it with a click of the mouse, a stunning cyber attack that some brand an act of war has president obama promising to answer back with what he calls a proportional response at a time and place of our choosing. what could that be? bill cowan is retired member of the united states marine corps and fox news military analyst. >> thanks for inviting me. >> this is a cyber attack against one corporation but an attack against our country and values. what do you think we should do? >> we have an outfit, an organization who's actually responsible for cyber war fair and you know, eric, we probably have the capability to covertly run a very aggressive attack against pyongyang without having to go public about it. let them suffer the consequences of what they've done to us and
10:32 am
let them suffer for dramatically. >> like the virus that went after the iranian centrifuges and messed them up, we could be doing something exactly the same thing against pyongyang? >> i think we could. i think we ought to be considering doing something like that. we need to send a clear message to them and send a clear message to everybody. we know chinese and russians and iranians are routinely mounting cyber attacks against us. they are not doing things that have a cause an effect over here but finding out how to get into our infrastructure and civilian sector and private level. they need to tell everybody else, you mess with us in the cyber world, we're going to mess with you. >> there are trade embargoes on that and they have a nuclear weapons capability. should we then have more embargoes and more sanctions? there's a bill, the north korea
10:33 am
sanctions enforcement act for example that passed the house last year but it's been sitting in the senate? >> all of those things make a little difference but nothing quite as profound as us going after them where they see quickly what the kind of results are. we can do all of these things around the edges and has an impact on north korea. the general population as you know is starving already. it's really teetering, you have to feel bad for the north korean people under the current dictator and leaders around him. they are all living well and eating well and having a good life but the rest of the country is suffering, military basically does good. we can do things to them that impact on them but maybe perhaps given this attack by them on us, maybe nothing quite as profound going after them aggressively, let's go to kim jong-un and cut off his internet, he'll probably flip out, he's a little whacko
10:34 am
of the first order. coming after the entertainment industry because they are running a movie about this guy tells you something about the mentality of the leadership and in fact north korea itself. >> everyone is making fun of the movie, let's put it out there. first of all, i think it should be out. everyone should see it as a message to that little dictator over there but beyond that, there's something really serious behind this. it shows the ability for a hostile government to threaten us, to launch an attack in cyber war or cyber space. are you worried about this, dealing with our electric grid, computers, banking system, if they are able to do that, what's to stop them from causing serious long term damage to something that's a basic infrastructure of our way of life? >> eric, i doubt the north koreans have the capabilities that the chinese do who we know have been after us for years and years, even going into the white
10:35 am
house, breaking through fire walls there and some day for whatever reason if china decides to do something major, they could shut the country down without a doubt. as you just suggested, the power grids and atms and gas machines and internet, radio, television, literally everything, they've mapped out a massive diagram how to get into these places and we don't even know all of the places where the chinese have gone in because they go in and come back out and maybe leave a trojan horse in there, they really have us scoped out and we have to hope literally that we can continue to work on defensive measures up to and including the day that they pull that switch and we find out what their real capabilities are. north korea would like to be where the chinese are but they aren't. >> that is frightening, finally do you think that will happen one day? how do we prevent it and can we do the same thing to them? >> that's a great question, it's always a matter of for the
10:36 am
counter measures capability. i would like to believe our cyber demand is working on counter measures that we can use on a massive scale against the chinese or russians and lesser scale iranians if they do something to us. we like to think they are the best friend out there in the world, they are not by long means. they want to be the world power at some point they have to knock us off our pedestal coming in and attacking our entire infrastructure, military commercial personal, what have you, would be a real blow to us and show them to be the dominant force in the world. >> it's a movie now, could be far more serious in the future. always good to see you. >> thanks, eric. for more on all of this, be sure to watch fox news sunday tomorrow, chris wallace will sit down with the chairman of the house intelligence committee and mike rogers. more on what the threats are and what we can do them, check your local listings.

listeria. two were in minnesota and others were in texas and california. all right, well, i hate to be the debbie downer but winter storms are expected to cause major headaches for millions of holiday travelers next week. the storm could dump heavy rain in the east and snow in the midwest just before christmas. what should we do if nature doesn't cooperate this week? ben is the blogger at one mile at a time. and you yourself postponed your christmas holiday travel? >> i did, pushed it back by two days. hopefully it doesn't get much worse. >> that's the thing, apparently there are see days they travel on. what's the best day to travel? >> new year's eve or new year's or christmas day or christmas eve would be the best days to travel, the busiest travel day ever was yesterday. >> really? >> history of the world apparently, today would be the second busiest day and january 3rd and 4th as well, when everyone is going home.

>> a lot of people are traveling, nearly 100 million americans either driving or flying. is there a better way to travel? then you mix in all of this weather that we're expecting, whether it be rain or snow, driving versus flying. any advice? >> ultimately if you're going long distances, flying isn't the only option, the good news is bad weather is supposed to hit on the 24th and that's a pretty slow travel day. that's good news for the most part. a lot of airlines don't operate on the 24th and 25th, so it's not that bad for most travelers. >> let's talk about delays they airport. anything you can do to avoid the long lines when standing in long lines, there's nothing worse, especially when you have children. a lot of people are visiting grandma. what do we do when we're standing in a long line? >> two big tips. get in line at the customer service desk and other thing at the same time phone up the airline, often they are much shorter, you might have to wait an hour or so to talk to the agent, you could be on the phone
10:44 am
with someone within a few minutes. and you can buy a day pass to a club lounge. it about $50 per day per person, it's a great way to not only have a more relaxing place to sit but they have customer service agents dedicated to helping people there. you'll be helped much faster. when sh you decide, my flight is delayed, to just throw in the towel and reroute plans and obviously you'll have to come up with a plan b. >> a lot of airlines have waivers in place. if the weather gets bad, you can often cancel your ticket for free. >> avoid checking bags. i think that's key. the baggage claim area is a nightmare, especially during the holidays, any time really. >> conventional wisdom is not to check bags. keep in mind closely enforcing carry-on size now. i was at kennedy last night and carefully looking at everyone's bags. if it's ats all too big you'll have to check it and get back in
10:45 am
that line. make sure you only travel with carry-on but don't overpack it. >> have ever we thought of perhaps sending our -- is there a cheaper way to get bags in the air ahead of us? the baggage thing is a huge problem. then there's weight restrictions. and in many countries thep don't allow over 50 pounds to be checked. when you're packing, what's a good thing to think about when packing to head out? >> i live in hotels full-time so i live out of a carry-on. >> i live out of a 20-inch carry-on. the biggest tip, lay everything you need on your bed then afterwards get rid of 30% of the stuff. you won't need it, everybody overpacks, especially for holidays. >> if you're staying in a hotel, nine times out of ten they'll have the toiletries you need -- although shampoo -- >> they are not very good. >> leading up to weather, should people be changing flights, nipping this in the bud before
10:46 am
their flight is delayed or canceled? should you cancel your flight and rebook? are airlines going to work with you on that? >> they don't often publish travel waivers and you can switch to a nonstop flight. if you booked with a connection or two because it was more direct, they'll let you reroute for free when they publish a travel waiver. on the 24th, the weather is predicted to be bad, you can expect most arlss to have travel waiver and you can make a change without a cost. maybe people should be flying earlier than later. >> at some point you have to cancel your plans traveling on 24th and delayed for hours, maybe it makes sense not to go somewhere for christmas, stay home. >> or fly christmas morning. >> a lot of people travel on new year's day and christmas day, not only that prices are actually cheaper if you fly on nonpeak days. >> i'm traveling christmas day and new year's eve and it is less than it usually it.
