and that is hitting home. everyone else around the country as we mourn the loss of our finest. what we have is a timeline. this is what we understand happened. the suspect, 28-year-old ishmael walked to the front passenger side of a patrol car and shot and killed the officers. at that moment -- back to you. >> thank you, brian. we are now going to go to nyw. >> the mayor expressing his anguish in front of a sea of police officers. >> look what happened. this is video of the mayor arriving for the press conference on the shooting. officers are turning their backs on the mayor as he approached. >> we are getting the first look at the suspect and he is from baltimore. he's the man who snub up after posting cryptic messages on

social media. live near the scene of the shooting. >> this execution-style shooting of these two police officers that happened over here stunned everyone and tragically it happened just as the nypd was receiving a warning that the gunman was on his way here determined to kill cops. >> two of new york's finest were shot and killed with no warning. >> raphael ramos was in their car having lunch. part of extra patrols. they never had a chance. >> the suspect has been identified as 28-year-old ishmael britneysly walked up and took a took a shooting stance and fired the weapon several times. >> let me show you what you

didn't see. in this phone video given to me by police sources at the scene, officers including the president pat lynch turning their backs on the mayor as he walked into the hospital to speak with the police officers's families. >> it's clear this was not a fascination. these officers were shot execution-style. >> the 28-year-old suspect shot his girlfriend in baltimore. the woman's mother alerted police when she saw his post that said i'm putting wings on pigs today. they take one of ours, let's take two of theirs. #shoot the police. #rip mike brown. this might be my final post. >> what's more, they sent a warning and a wanted flyer to the nypd and other agencies. tragically this was essentially at the same time as our officers

were being ambushed by brinsley. >> all night long i have been receiving text messages from people from all over the city. they are all saying the same thing. they are sickened by what happened and determined not to let the tragedy inflame the tense atmosphere here on the streets. i'm lisa everest. back to you. >> thanks so much. after tonight's news conference, they expressed sorrow over the deaths of the officers. they wrote when police officers are murdered it tears the foundation of our society. it was an attack on our city and the backlash came almost immediately like this. >> this blood is on your hands. you did this. you built this racial division. >> referring to the attack, which you insighted with your race.

>> darrell tweets, you are a disgrace. >> this is where we continue our team coverage. >> live with more reaction from the pva. >> an emotional scene here at the medical center in brooklyn less than a mile from where the two officers were assassinated. a few minutes ago their bodies were escorted from the hospital. rank and file of the nypd standing at attention, literally hundreds of them. some in uniform and others in plain clothes and street outside the hospital. some had tears in their eyes. all feeling the burden of this loss. the deaths of their fallen comrades described as a crime against the city. the police union president held a press conference separate from the mayor and police commissioner moments after the bodies were escorted out. that is unusual and is a clear sign of the rising tensions between the mayor's office and the union.

lynch was critical of the mayor's handling of the protest and anti-violence demonstrations that consumed the city since the eric garner decision. take a listen. >> there is blood on many hands tonight. those that insighted violence on this street under the guys of protest that tried to tear down what new york city police officers did every day. we tried to warn. it must not go on. it cannot be tolerated that. blood on the hands starts on the steps of city hall in the office of the mayor. starting today, we started the mourning on the police officers. >> we heard from several elected leaders throughout the city and civil rights activists including al sharp and he spoke with the eric garner family.

they are criticizing the shooting and it has noplace in the society. any connection between this apparently deranged individual who came to new york city with the sole intention of killing these two police officers and those demonstrations that we have seen that have primarily been peaceful are unknown at this point. what is clear is the pain on the faces of those officers. the men and women are all races. black, white, latino and asian on the ramp and on the street outside of the hospital. those officers from tonight are mourning the loss of one of their. back to you. >> thank you so much. >> recently there has been a lot of pressure to mend his relationship with the police. >> we want to listen as he offered his condolences. >> our hearts go out to the families. the comrades in arms at the precinct to the larger family of

line between the protest and this incident. this could be just the work of a person who clearly is mentally disturbed. but also committed an extraordinary act and the family of the girlfriend. i don't want to draw the lines of causality and i know people are. this is our city. they need to come and heal. >> they are talking about politics and emotions are running high. this is a deep low on a personal level. this is not about politics. when it's so personal, how can it not be about politics. can you talk about that? >> as you were saying earlier, they lay there on the steps of city hall. i'm not sure if that's fair, but it's something that the mayor is

going to have to manage going forward. there has been a report of something and he and the commissioner and the police officer's union in the midst of that. they are going to have to find a way to work it out. because we cannot have police officers number one, they are at the front door every day and we say we are purported and i know that the mayor had talked about this. there several bridges that they are going to have toct to bring all of us together. i think in the next few days, there will be a lot of us talking about the leadership. >> thank you so much for being with us. we will contact you should we need you to come back with us on this newscast. >> let's go back and continue
