white officer killing a 18-year-old. they are demonstrating against the nypd, despite calls from the mayor to stop until after the two officers were laid to rest. the nypd is reporting at least a half dozen people have been arrested and many continued threats and police are encouraged to wear bullet proof vests and remain vigilant. and despite this, president obama is telling us that they we are less racially divided than when he took office. but first, a fox news exclusive

two officers being killed is the mayor now making statements that we need to comply and respect police. it hasn't been the case in the past and as far as turning my back on the mayor, along with other cops, i stand by that. i think that the mayor needs to lead and he's not doing that right now. >> and there's been a banner that flew over the state of new york and a blaurg alleges that it's a group of retired police officers and it says "de blasio, our backs are turned to you." do you think that gives us any progress or do you think there's reconc reconciliation between the mayor and the nypd? >> reconciliation is always

possible. the what is interesting is that the question of reconciliation consistently acomes up and we're now a week later. it's friday. and a week ago today, the mayor sat down and met with the protesters. it will be a week ago, tomorrow that officers were shot in their patrol car, and the mayor has yet to meet with a policeman. he's been hiding under popularity of the police commissioner. i think you're going to see that he's completely wrong. >> he has asked for protesters and demonstrators to stop, at

the mayor has said he would not tolerate negative action against the police. when he spoke to the son about how to act towards police, he also said to take special care and they're there to protect you. you have a bunch of white people sitting round on cable news and talk radio and telling black people that they should react, according to a nonpartisan group, black men are 20 more times likely, based on a study, to be more likely to be killed by cops. if you're the parent of a black or biracial child, that's the

feeling you're going to have. and the cops turning their back, that's not bringing the city together. that's not healing. >> you can see how the officers would feel slighted. you heard him say that he had to take special care and that he said it was different for a white child and a lot of officers feel like that's tainting them with racism. >> he said special care with the police and he said who are there to protect you. he was clearly stating that cops are the good guys who are there to protect the community. because he wasn't putting down the police. >> what about him saying it's different if you're a white kid.

of these cases but do you find that there's such a combustable conversation going on but that if there is any similar circumstances, people are willing to jump on either side? >> and the ingredients to these are if you have a white police officer, even though his life is in jeopardy and clearly, as you can see on this video, that somehow the white police officer is at fault and that the facts and the forensics and your own eyes, the very fact that the narrative that the police are racist if they're white enforcing the law and that if they're black and enforcing the law, they're not. and there's nothing that a white police officer can do that won't

of the establishment, part of the problem and the theme of these protesters is a white police officer shoots a black teen but nobody accounts for the conduct that is trulty the suspect. nobody told this young teen pull that gun on his officer. he could have simply said i have a gun and laid on the ground. he chose to do what he did and he did. is that what they teach their children? is that what their community is? and that's the message they're conveying. >> hearing from his family, they're of course heart broken. he is a young man, 18-year-old,

suspect. the officers are just reactionary. so when these officers go out into the street, it's not that they can say, well, i'm not going to do this and i'm not going to push the envelope on this. they know they're the suspect, they're know they are going to be violent and the public seems to be completely clueless to this fact that these individuals d dictated their own death. >> and what is so difficult is that people who have real grievances and fears, they are being leveraged to the benefit of someone else who really doesn't truly have their best interest at heart. thank you. now, why as we're seeing more

from the president as we are seeing new protests in missouri because of a black teen shot by a police officer. and then the continued fall out over the grand jury's decision over the eric garn case. all the while, the president has said that race relations are less racially divided. good to see you. do you feel that there has been some missed opportunity here for president obama because a lot of people voted for him, even those who didn't vote for him, had high hopes that maybe it would be a turning point for racial relations in the country. >> it's not as simple as black and white and the problem is the

a lot was put on the color of the skin, instead of content. but first we also have to extract what really matters here in the numbers. the majority of americans, just move them out of the picture. we've come a great ways since voting rights and civil rights in the '60s. and we are not racist country but there is a small core, politically driven by leaders like al sharpton, who sits that right hand of bill deblazio, and they are invested in driving a narrative that if you're black, everything else is against you and even in the black community, it's not a monolithic blot.

and you can take more afflunt blacks, and move them to more urban blacks, and those are the ones being used by this president and these false leaders. so it's a more complex situation and a missed opportunity. this country has done an absolutely amazing thing with slavery and race relations but we have been left in a battle and without being able to have a real conversation. >> i want to go to a pole about racial relations tebetter. 19% say better, 62% say worse and 13% say maybe.
