>> make an extra mortgage payment and spend less money than you normally spend. >> boring, boring, boring and dull. >> that is your money in a minute. we have some serious news we have to get to and we will do that right now. the passenger jet carrying 162 people vanishing from indonesia to singapore sunday morning we are now learning officials are testing objects recovered in the sea search area about 700 miles from where the plane lost contact with air traffic controller airasia senior foreign affairs correspondent joins us with the very latest. >> another crucial day of searching for this aircraft. so far after two days there is no sign of airasia flight 8501. that airplane took off from indonesia airport sunday morning

bound for singapore. among the 152 on board, mostly indonesian but other nationalities as well. the pilot asked to fly higher to get around bad weather. it might have made the difference. shortly after that, radio and greater contact was lost. authorities now believe the plane is lying on the bottom of the sea in that region. dozens of ships are coming from several countries and checking out some things they are finding like an oil slick debris. authorities also say it is too early to tell what brought the plane down. air asia has a good safety record. that is why nothing is being rolled out.

technical fault, maybe even foul play. no distress signal and other planes were in the area when it went down. little bit suspicious. there are no survivors, the families of the passengers are hoping against hope, hoping to find out some better news at both airports where it originated from and where it was supposed to land. it has not been a good yea that area especially. airasia is malaysia base. malaysian airline was shot down over ukraine in july. and in march of this year, also another malaysian airline lost at sea. still missing. authorities are still looking for it. in a couple of hours indonesia time, the search crews will be out again. the planes will be out as well as the search intensifies it is really a race against time. >> thank you.

from london. investigation continues and we will bring you updates throughout the day on the fox news channel. the ark city reeling from the murders of two police officers. mayor bill de blasio speaking out at a graduation ceremony a short time ago two days after hundreds of police officers turned their back on him speaking for the officer rafael ramos where the two officers killed execution style in their patrol car. the mayor remembering their sacrifice and called to duty. >> we lost two peacemakers, nine days ago we lost two heroes. they were children of god, for sure. we mourn detectives rafael ramos and detective wenjian liu. they stood up for all that was good and right. they gave us hope by their presence among us and they will not be forgotten, they must not he forgotten. heather: those officers who turned their back on a live feed

over the weekend were turning on what they see as a mayor is too sympathetic to protesters. rudy giuliani believes de blasio could heal the rift if you just apologize to the city. >> he created and oppression which i don't know he wanted to do it, but he created and an impression he was on the side of the protest. some of those protest were horrible, yelling to kill the police. i should have apologize for the remarks he made giving the police impression he is on the other side. >> police commissioner bill bratton says his officers nationwide feel they are under attack by the fed. he wishes president obama and eric calderwood consider the officers side of things. >> they really do feel under attack that they feel they are

under attack at the highest levels. that is something we need to understand also, the sense of deception that becomes a reality. we have a lot of talking that we are going to have to do here to understand all sides of this issue. this is not a one-sided issue. >> this is most certainly an ongoing issue not just for new york city and n.y.p.d., but for officers nationwide on hilar because of of the protest. and now we're learning about different threats for new year's eve, for big cities like the city los angeles, san francisco to name a few. you can imagine the police officers emotions are running high because they are asked to give and facing so much with this kind of adversity. >> and there is a lot of controversy surrounding place police officers turning their backs on the mayor. but mayor de blasio is learning a hard lesson that respect is earned, not given.

we respect our police officers. you heard what he said at the police graduation ceremony but he had a different tune when the protesters were chanting in the streets. we want dead cops and we want them now. now all of a sudden he is trying to turn around without issue an apology, saying the speechwriter words at a podium to say he now has a change of heart and his police officers served with honor and they stand for good. he does zero them an apology and i would question why the mayor is still showing up at things like funerals when he hasn't issued that apology. i feel that is very poor taste. >> he is in charge of this city, in charge of public safety. >> he is grappling though because an apology would be in fact opposite of his core feelings. we forget mayor de blasio with

elevated in part by campaigning against new york city police department and i will differ in a certain sense then people should respect the elders, respect the office of the president, inspect the office of the mayor, but it can be lost. what i don't get, guys, this is a common sense thing. 99% of the people in new york city want peace, we want safety and anybody who lived here in the 1970s remember how bad it was for every single person in the city under siege, went bankrupt, it was hell. anybody who things were romanticized is somehow we shouldn't have so many police officers in a certain neighborhood are not airasia when you make a call and they don't show up, that is when you are in trouble. come out and even if it is against your core beliefs and manage the city. >> by the way, no longer on the

city council he is the mayor of new york city. his words do have an incredible amount of weight. it is a two-pronged issue. want to see the police department but you can't have a war on police officers. we have to have good people who want to be a part of the force and wear the badge. my worry is young people thinking about being cops who fear it is open season and i fear the climate we have is due to police officers would obamacare is doing for future doctors. >> bill de blasio didn't anticipate this backlash. he really didn't. he didn't think the workers would step up and say we are concerned about our safety. anybody who lived in new york rudy giuliani knows what crime looks like and how he has revitalized the city. this is a left-leaning city to jump on this antipolice officer

bandwagon and not recognize hold on a second, these people are fighting for our lives to protect us and they need our support. i don't know if an apology will do it at this point. police officers look to his record in the record he ran on that was antipolice from day one, anything he says does not mean anything, he is not backing it up with anything solid. >> you know his core feelings antipolice is barack obama, eric holder and al sharpton who is advising the white house is still on these issues. you look at the history with the anti-cap appointment. going back to april when president obama nominated the civil rights division of the department of justice, in charge by the way of bringing cases against police officers. involuntary advocate for one of the most notorious cop killers in the country's history and that is a kind of doj backing up the rhetoric.

>> welcome back to "outnumbered." a bleak report in "the washington post" about the current state of the secret service revealing problems began more than a decade before those embarrassing white house fence jumping instances. the trouble goes back to the secret service becoming part of the homeland security. the changes set in motion that critical time in 2001 lead to a

slow-steady slide and quality. thereport released is stretched to end in many cases beyond its limits. this in the wake of high profile scares. in september, 42-year-old omar gonzalez kind over the white house fence, sprinted through the front door the white house and knocked over secret service officer all while armed with a three and a half inch knife. another man scaled the fence but he was caught on the north lawn by officers and guard dogs. this stuff is really scary to me what is going on with the secret service. they are tasked with protecting key figures. why is there no urgency fixedness and addressing it right away? >> we have seen one crisis after the next. this is an embattled agency, one lacking in resources it seems and in training as well. they have done some changes at the highest level of management, hopefully that will change things in the right direction but if this isn't a priority what is?

why isn't somebody up in arms about this to say we have to get this squared away. one situation at the next where they are messing things up stretched thin. you can't adequately protect someone. my this will not have security if you have one security person watching for different people in a situation like that. that is asking for a problem. >> by 2003 it was 29 people did now it is 27 people. how do they not realize if they are tasked with more responsibility, they have a lot of additional responsibilities they didn't have before, why wouldn't you immediately add training if you need funding, why hasn't this been prioritize? seeing the public relations disasters on this issue. what is going on? >> you are seeing what happens when you have a centralized bureaucracy because how many departments were shoved under the dhs tent after 9/11?

they thought it was streamlining when really the secret service has to compete for resources. that is what happens when you centralized. it is a problem with common core, isn't it charles? >> common core is a whole different problem. i can't even tell you 300 lines on the common core. it does get to morale and that gets to management. even with stretched resources and having to guard more people, remember the secret service. these are the guys who jump in front of a bullet to save a president. this is the cream of the crop. how could this go wrong? >> james west. >> i was going to say kevin costner in "bodyguard." >> the post report missed there is a huge, this is not just a secret service problem, by the

way. this is happening a border patrol, the fbi, a federal government wide problem and it has to do with management being completely disconnected with -- from the street agents who are doing the protecting and running down the bad guys and thrown people behind bars for the crimes they are committing. they are promoting this managers who have never stepped a day out in the field to fill the political aspirations of the managers who have been there or the administration issues with law enforcement and therefore there is no trust between the people on the ground and management. that is the key issue in terms of morale. it has plummeted not just under barack obama but since they have been moved into other big agencies outside of the treasury agencies. >> and they are afraid to speak up. >> are they still in charge of tracking down counterfeiters? that was one of their main tasks other than guarding the president.

that will be very good in other ways gridlock can be our best friend because it restrains to parties and don't have to spend too much money. where is he pulling this pen from? >> the president talks about protecting it. >> what was the other word? >> i don't know. great characteristics. it is so funny because the narrative is always do nothing congress. the president just admitted my man harry reid was sitting on everything but now he has to face the public. you know what, forget about threatening the g.o.p. that sounds so silly, but you are going to have to face the public that will see you be doing things.

the national average of $2.28 per gallon is $0.50 less than a month ago and a dollar less than a year ago. but not everybody is putting on their party hat. some analysts are not convinced the economy is really that strong. saying it is actually quite weak and propped up by federal reserve is easy cash flow and low rates. the average consumer has way too much debt household has declined. i think people are overestimating the shape of the consumer and ability to spend. it is all a bubble masquerading as a recovery. many americans may agree. an associated press poll shows 57%, nearly six out of 10 americans rate the economy as poor. >> first of all let's put it in proper context. we got used to mediocrity after

the great recession began. this is true, this is the worst postrecession recovery we have ever had. when you come out of mediocrity it feels great. in other words if it is the only thing that you do like 1% growth growth, and you become 2% growth, you just doubled it. you wouldn't necessarily use certain words. we had a population where many people were hired in one single month. people historically know this is not the greatest work of all recoveries but it is a testament we are saying to the american spirit. people need to understand capitalism was attacked, success with attacks, achievements were attacked and we we're still hanging in there. they're working on a product that will be buying a year from

this is not just thing. but evidence in america. there is evidence around the world. we're talking about incomes here earlier. the reason why we're not making a lot of money is the education gap. the education gap is huge. >> we need quality not quantity. >> classroom full of students bad teacher for 30 hours will not make a difference. at end of the day teachers will get tired and put a movie on. kids are sitting in the classroom. kids are tired. teachers are tired. disciplining all day and watching christmas specials. i saw it all the time. you have to reform the system. get rid of bad teachers. you have to have school choice to create competition and inject competition in the system. they think this is like saying we'll throw a whole bunch of problem with the money in education that will solve it. money will not solve it. time will not solve it. >> desee new york, l.a. and two kids in a chatter school right now. charter school that is one step on the road to more school choice which we don't have enough of in this country.

either $30,000 a year private school or you know, sometimes horrible public school options and parents don't have any choice at all. they're the missing link in the educational puzzle that we don't talk about a lot. it is parental involvement. that is why charter schools tend to succeed. of some charter schools better teachers better involvement and longer and better days. >> i was on a board in bronx parents fought toot and nail to get their kid in there. some students are prepared to be involved in the kid to certain degree. they don't have education level kimberly. i'm saying for me assume we have real curriculums designed to really help these kids further their lives beyond the public school system. i like idea of more hours in school as opposed more hours going home to play videotapes. >> you're right. especially at aren't singe my son, at eight left to his own devices, nintendo sd, xbox,

whatever ipad, mine craft. they're kids. they will want to gravitate toward the stuff. when he is in school, stays on task focused it is important. i have my little boy in public school here in new york which was great school. it had wonderful teachers but classroom size was so big. they had one teacher with sort of an assistant that was not helpful at all, i had to take him, put him in private school. it is running now, $54,000 in new york. you know for second and third grade. give me a break. only because the classroom size was smaller. it is about quality, it is about teachers and about classroom sizes and choice. >> i think quite frankly kids spend too much time from public schools. there from breakfast to dinner in a lot of big cities and they're not learning a lot. the issue is teachers unions and not accountability. not having them in school long enough. my dad is a teacher. it is about the public education system and sitting kids down -- >> because they're in school, that is what matters.
