12:44 pm
but 2015 is still going to be a very challenging year for republicans. and they still have some things left to prove to the american people. so not only in congress where, as i mentioned in my list, they are going to have to prove they are going to govern as opposed to just grandstanding or taking ideological stands. they must actually produce tangible evidence of progress for the american people. but on the campaign trail as well, you'll have republican candidates coming out and announcing bids for president in 2015. as many as 20 republicans right now are interested in running for president. if only half of those republicans actually end up running, it's still going to be a crazy primary. and we're going to have to see if it gets as wild and out of control as last time or if republicans are able to reign that in a bit. >> number three is president obama's next move and four is

the republican mantra will be "is the economy stupid. >> last year the president took a number of executive actions but as he did this was able to circumvent congress. but this is a republican-controlled congress. they have anned a adversarial relationship. one of the big questions for this year is what are we going to be talking about? because republicans, for example, have for years been talking about the economy and jobs in congress. speaker boehner, one of his favorite taglines is where are the jobs? but now the economy is improving and unemployment is down. so what are we going to be talking about in 2015?

may, and what congress has been doing is using trickery, going into the general trust fund to fund this and essentially it's supposed to be used for our crumbling roads and bridges. it's not at all clear that that's where it goes. but unless there is a multiyear, long-term funding solution to this deficit of the highway trust fund, the pressure is going to be on states and local governments to raise the gas tax, and that's what they've been doing. i mean there are legions of states right now that are raising it this year. that's more money out of your pocket. >> well, that's a lot of pressure. first of all, you have the consumers who are going to cry foul if the prices go up. you're going to have the states crying foul if they're forced to bear the brunt. and then you have the republicans who don't want to impose any new taxes, but yet they might have to. >> right. and president obama doesn't really favor this either. the reason is it's incredibly
