back of the book segment tonight, as you may know mike huckabee has resigned his position as a fox news host because he may run for president. he joiption us now from santa rosa florida in the panhandle. all right, so say you are elected, governor, to the presidency, do you have a plan to defeat the jihad? the first thing you have to know is who your enemy is if you don't recognize the nature of the enemy is religious, it's going to be hard to defeat him. the very word jihad means that this is a religiously motivated war. so, one of the things we have to do is identify hot real enemy is cut off their funding, make it clear to countries like saudi arabia
5:48 pm
and others who continue to fund these guys that if they give them money, they are done with the united states. >> all right. >> then put on the spotlight some real heroes. this week we saw two remarkable people. president in egypt and the crown prince of bahrain calling on the moderate muslims to step up and stop this nonsense. that's the kind of leadership that we need. >> let me ask you a series of questions obviously the nation of pakistan has enabled the jihad. and everybody knows it. it's a doctor who helped us get bin laden in prison. they imprison him and harbor bin laden. i say cut off every penny and impose an economic embargo like we had had against cuba. would you do that? >> i would certainly consider it. i would want to look and see with foreign policy experts. but, bill, i think my first inclination is to say absolutely. i would go further. i would cut off support to the united nations, which
5:49 pm
has become an absolute joke. they take u.s. money. >> not going to do anything directly but pakistan. >> nothing. >> if you told the pakistanis trade embargo against you, no more money coming from us. and we're going to encourage the rest of the world not to trade with you, their economy collapses, yes, they have nuclear weapons, yes the jihadists will be there. but, it will force them force them to stop what is a, you know, tens of thousands of americans have been killed because of pakistan's helping the jihadist. iran. now, everybody knows they are nationals of terrorists around the world. we continue to negotiate with them in over the world. we continue to negotiate with them in bad faith. nobody believes iran is going to do anything. what would you do there? >> i think we've made a big mistake by trying to make nice with them. we were doing much better when we were putting economic pressure on them and it was
5:50 pm
having a dramatic effect upon them. now we're easing up those sanctions, they're accelerating their nuclear program and they continue to pose a threat both to israel and the rest of the world and continue to fund groups like hamas and hezbollah. it doesn't make sense when you help feed the people whose strength from which you feed them are going to be used to sock you in the face. >> so barack obama and to be fair the republican congress as well, i mean, the bush administration didn't take action against pakistan. they certainly knew pakistan was hurting american soldiers in afghanistan but didn't do anything. everybody's afraid. they're afraid to confront the jihad. the jihadists know it. they think we're weak. they're plotting even at this moment while we're speaking to kill us. if they can kill us, they'll kill us. china helps them russia helps them. we can't do anything against them. turkey turkey, we even let us go in there and fight isis and we don't do anything to them. so what i'm trying to get across
5:51 pm
to you if you're president of the united states whoever it is it's got to change or we're going to have another 9/11 it's going to be ten times worse than it was. i believe that firmly. last word on the subject. >> no, i totally agree. and, look we both know from being kids growing up in a schoolyard that if there's a bully the only way the bully stops being a bully is when somebody pumplgs his lights out and he's no longer a bully. and the united states is going to have to quit pretending that you can tame a bully. you're going to have to bust the bully and end him. >> okay. >> and we've got to start from the top of these jihadist organizations, work our way down and quit acting like we're weak. >> we're not acting like we're weak, we are weak. >> we don't have to be. >> we don't have the political will to defeat this enemy. they didn't have the will to defeat japanese or germans exactly. last night laura ingraham and i discussed you and asked the question can a religious man as you are become president of the united states, can you get
5:52 pm
elected because of the secular society that we have now. what do you say? >> well, it's interesting to me that that question keeps coming up about me because, bill, you were the one who wrote the book on jesus not me. >> but you're a baptist minister. >> well, i was but that was 25 years ago. what were you doing 25 years ago, bill? >> i was in prison, i think. >> come on. >> some of your policy positions are shaped by your belief that evil has to be confronted and the good has to be promoted, right? >> i think that's an american position. i think that's consistent with the -- built education, reformed health care. i didn't replace the capitol dome with the steeple and trade in the legislative sessions for prayer meetings. i effectively governed.
5:53 pm
now, am i believer? yeah, am i ashamed of that? absolutely not. but i never have suggested that the purpose for which i've ever run or would run for office is so i can impose some type of religious dogma on anybody. i don't think i should be disqualified for running from office because i happen to be unapologetic believer. >> i'm just wondering whether the masses of people will take that into account when they valuate your candidacy. it's an unanswerable question right now. >> well, but here's the interesting question. we don't want to call islamic jihadism what it is because we don't want to offend somebody because we might hurt their feelings over their religion. and yet the national press, not so much you, but the national press all they want to do is to say i don't think mike huckabee could be president because he's religious. >> that's right. >> now, do you not see the irony in that? >> i am mr. irony, governor. thanks for being on.
