we begin with europe on high alert against terror. armed soldiers fanning out across belgium guarding potential targets in a show of force not seen for 30 years. this weekend's fresh vigilance comes alongside anti-terrorism sweeps. greg is live in paris. greg, what can you tell us about the increased security going on now? >> reporter: kelly you're right, europe is a continent on edge tonight. on high alert as well. this in the wake of the deadly attacks here in france, in the past week. you were talking about belgium, that's where a lot of the focus is. 300 troops out on the streets. they are protecting the sensitive sights. including united states and this

is a including a network of jihadis there. they were supposed to be going after police in a nationwide range of attacks that could have been happening as early as yesterday. that's why the police in belgium moved in. not just there, but in germany ireland, near france. a range of arrests and operation against terrorists. the big focus, kelly is on individuals usually young muslim menner who are going to perform jihadi acts in places like iraq and syria. perhaps get training in places like yemen. and then come back and bring that kind of terror back to europe. this is a big concern and that's where the focus can right now, kelly. >> greg, we also understand there is a controversy surrounding the burials of the dead terrorists. can you tell us about that? >> reporter: quite a controversy. as you can imagine the attack, of the "charlie hebdo" newspaper office really hit home here and struck the nation in fact.

the officials in control of a couple cemeteries around this cemetery, said, no we will not bury the dead terror suspects responsible for that. but two have relented. said kouhachi was buried there. and then the anti-terror feeling shared around the world in places like a country in africa, once again "charlie hebdo" put putting prophet muhammad on the cover, five people were killed.

that anti-"charlie hebdo" sentiment, that is felt in some quarters near france as well. back to you. >> all right. senior foreign correspondent greg palkot. good to see you. the next negotiations with iran start back up. president obama and david cameron are urging congress not to pursue new sanctions. the two leaders warned that sanctions could torpedo the sanctions to curb iran's nuclear program risking war. but many in congress disagree, include something democrats. molly joining us live from washington. hi, molly. >> reporter: hi, julie even though it has bipartisan support in congress, president obama is warning lawmakers that he will veto any bill that comes to his desk that poses new sanctions on iran if this latest round of nuclear talks fail. >> my main message to congress at this point is just hold your fire. nobody around the world at least of all, the iranians

doubt my ability to get some additional sanctions passed should these negotiations fail. it's not a hard vote for me to get through congress. >> reporter: president obama says he wants to see the framework for a new deal to contain iran's nuclear program can be reached in march between britain, china, france and iran. he's gets pushback from democrats like menendez. he told them the sanctions cannot be imposed quickly enough in the falks fall through. and he urged the president to approve them now in case the u.s. needs that authority in the future. in addition, the new republican chairman of the senate foreign relations committee tennessee governor bob corker put out a statement saying there's no doubt that it is the leverage provided by congress that forced

tehran to the negotiating table. and i continue to believe that congress weighing in on this critical issue can help these negotiations succeed. not undermine them. president obama will talk about the conditions in iran in the state of the union speech next week. >> molly henneberg thank you so much. kelly. in the suit throughout, people living along the previous suit are stopping people from using eminent domain to take their land. construction of the pipeline is still in limbo because of the state department has yet to decide whether to approve the project. well, a pro-police rally called the sea of blue is taking place right now in washington. take a look.

the march starting in front of the national memorial for law enforcement officers. and ending in front of the capitol. participants show issing solidarity with police by wearing blue. the events were organized by three women married to police officers. they say it was not intended as a response to anti-police protests but simply meant to show officers that they are appreciated. especially after the cold-blooded killing two of members of the nypd in december. pope francis visiting the philippines, the larger catholic country celebrating its first paper visit in two decades. the pontiff like a rock star delivering mass and meeting with victims of a 2013 typhoon that left more than 6,000 people dead or missing. in the meantime a new storm is fast approaching packing heavy wind and rain. and forcing them to leave earlier than planned.

david piper reporting live from bangkok bangkok, thailand. david, how is the pontiff doing? >> reporter: well, despite some terrible weather, kelly, he did pretty well and held a mass in tacloban tacloban. 1 million people still remain homeless in the philippines because the typhoon. pope francis told his audience as soon as he saw what had happened to the philippines he was determined to visit. and he had these words for the faithful. >> translator: so many of you have have lost everything. i don't know what to say to you. >> reporter: the pope had to cut short his visit because of the approaching storm. when he announced he had to

leave there four hours early, there were anguish gasps in the cathedral he was visiting. . pope francis apologized and said he was truly saddened that he had to leave. the pope had plans to meet personally survivors of the typhoon. and a plane carrying officials overshot the runway just moments before the pope's plane took off for manila. and nobody was injured. on sunday the pope will be holding a mega mass, 6 people expected to come to it. >> you did say 6 million? >> yes. the rnc has announced the debate schedule. republicans and democrats can get an early start on possible runs. coming up next. and the plan of a search for

time now for a quick check of today's headlines for you. american and coalition forces carrying more than two dozen air strikes today against the terrorists of isis. they attacked targets from syria and iraq over a 12-hour period. destroying tanks buildings and tactical units. train service between britain and france suspended today after smoke alarms went off in the underwater tunnel. authorities say a fire in a truck being carried on the train set off alarms near the french side of the tunnels. no passengers were hurt. and check out these pictures from the volcano that erupted in iceland. wow. incredible. a lava field covering more than 30 square miles, it is being called a masterpiece of mother nature. look at that. it's like a river. >> wow. >> and is iceland's biggest lava field in more than 200 years. the volcano erupted last august

and is spill spewing molten rock. well something else you will love seeing from american election headquarters let the rates begin. republicans are announcing their debate schedule for the 2016 presidential primaries. once the field gets settled, nine debates, with an option for three more. they're beginning to show interest and round up their donors. meanwhile, hillary clinton hasn't announced her plans but looks like she's pulling together a team of democrats. both joining us to weigh in on what 2016 might look like so, let's begin. during the last general election, you recall, angela brutal for republicans. so many candidates throughout. 20 in all. what was the gop, what have they

learned from that experience as they apply for 2016? >> basically newt gingrich's day. to use against the front-runners. and with the nine debates 12 debates, the candidates that the presidential hopefuls will debate in a fair way where they can put aside all of the bickering and vie for the nomination. and not go after each other like a bloody mess like they did in 2012. >> well david, what are you hoping for? >> well, i'm hoping for both parties to get together and start talking about the middle class. and restoring economic security to the middle class. and seeing to it that with the 5% gdp growth that we saw, consumer confidence up we're seeing more employment we're now down to 5.6 unemployment. but we have to make sure that

wages start falling in line with the productivity of workers. that those go up. so that they can start to feel and d experience the foundations that have been laid for the recovery. as we start to move forward and experience -- >> david -- >> wow, i'm surprised, angela david gave you a short tease of an attack of republicans, in talking about the issues of 2015. >> modus operandi. >> i think we're going to see hillary clinton do what david mercer just did. the country is tired of the divisiveness. the country is tired of the gridlock in congress, and we need answers. but david said that the national unemployment right is 5.5%. but in the black or hispanic community it hasn't changed much. whoever the nominee on the other side, they're going to have to come up with a plan to create a better america. i think the folks on the right are going to be victorious. >> so is how do we get down to

sympathizing these issues and bringing it down to a common value and a common good for the people so we don't see the bickering on the left and the right, regardless of who runs? >> i think what we need to have, kelly, not the hope and change and not motivational speakers. but people who actually but forth policies and tell the american people how they're going to do it. and not blame people if it isn't done. i think you're going to see with a jeb bush or hillary clinton or mitt romney, you're going to see people put forth a plan and not give beautiful speeches. >> you know, she makes a very valid point there because mitt romney himself have said that he and ann romney, his wife, are going to campaign as hard as they possibly can for any republican nominee. because they want to see a change. they want to see something substantive come to government for the american people. >> as you can see now we'll start with the republican party

and i would suggest to the republican party, that they heed the advice of karl rove who said, look if you're not coming with solutions for what the american people want to have addressed. then you might as well sit this one out in running for office. and we'll see if that unfolds. and that they keep their powder dry for maybe putting their target on secretary clinton. and see what they can come up with in these debates that will address the middle class, restore the economy and solidify it. so as to prosper beyond what we saw in the bush years. >> wait a minute, you said senator clingten she hasn't announced yet. she had could be facing opposition in the republican party? >> you're right. there could be others. at this time the democratic party is open. nobody is trying to keep anybody out. but what i will say, what you see on the democratic side is

2016. good to see you. a manhunt intensifies for a teenage couple called a modern age bonnie and clyde. dalton hayes and his 13-year-old girl have been on the run forging checks stealing cars and the pair have guns. hey, brian. >> the sheriff said this kentucky teenage couple has become increasingly brazen and dangerous. as they went missing from january 3rd they've been in kentucky south carolina and georgia, yesterday, that were last spotted somewhere in florida. police don't want to say exactly where. on sunday, the bonnie and clyde sweetheart stole their first truck. in kentucky.

they abandoned the truck. hours later, the pair stole this red 2006 toyota tacoma with blank checks and unloaded gun inside. on monday, surveillance footage at a walmart shows the teens before and after using two forged checks. on wednesday, the couple abandoned that red truck south of atlanta georgia and stole a silver toyota tundra with two loaded handguns inside. 18-year-old dalton hayes and 13-year-old cheyenne phillips had been dating for three months. they announce they had were engaged on facebook the same day they disappeared. both families say they lied to phillips about her age. that she's 19 years ss old. they also say she may be pregnant. >> we want to say please come home. we love you, we miss you. we know y'all done wrong but you

and two others hurt after a gunman opened fire early this morning inside the food court of a shopping mall in central florida. not clear if the gunman is dead or if one of the injured people taken to the hospital. police are clearing the mall store by store. cbs basketball analyst and former nba star greg anthony has been arrested in washington, d.c. he's been charged with soliciting a prostitute. he faces a fine and up to 180 days in jail. anthony has been suspended from cbs indefinitely. and authorities in afghanistan say they have arrested five people in connection with a massacre at a military school in pakistan last month. security forces say the men, all foreigners helped support the terrorist operation that killed 150 people. mostly children. a new terrorism concern arising after a series of raids

across europe rounding up dozens of al qaeda and isis operatives. this as they managed to hack some twitter feeds. is there any way the west can keep pace with the new fronts on the war on terror? joining me now is jesse jane dutch. dozens arrested here in and in the u.s., all these coupled with cyberthreats after the twitter account was hacked. what is the world doing about it? >> well, the u.s. is not cutting off the head of a snake. we're going to worry about lone wolves and stock them. if we go after the islamic extremist jihadists that are running these operations that are recruiting these young men to advocate their mission. if we cut off the head of the

she claimed that we have our pants down and we're at level with terrorists is scary. and under their watch, we were warned of this several years ago. cybersecurity is near and dear to the lemon center and my heart because i've activity worked with it for years. we have the means and tools to stay ahead of it. why haven't we. >> the homegrown terror, it's real. christopher lee out of ohio was arrested earlier this week allegedly traveling to washington to kill employees and officers working in and orlando the u.s. capitol. his goal was to serve a directive of the islamic state group also known as isis. and you bring up an interesting poll, in fact, which really does say a lot about the european and the global threat of islamic wannabe terrorists. tell us about that poll that you used? >> the e.u. poll says that 69% of the muslims in france

actually support isis. and not only that, when you look at that same survey throughout all of europe it's relatively very similar, as high as 40% in some locations. and when you flip that, you come here to the united states you also will see that some of the largest cases of religious discrimination and attacks have been against jewish people of very high percentages. and in fact it goes on the highest rafthigh est rate of this type of discrimination goes on in france against jews. we have an apparent situation that the rest of the word seems to be ignoring. you have isis support at extreme levels and you have a massive movement against the jewish population. when are we going to call this out as a jihadism against our freedom? they've not wanted to look discriminatory. the administration has ignored shoe bomber, the christmas tree

and that's kind of the root of the issue. a lot of people end up in this situation of slavery because there's no other means of survival. >> we never put that together until we were in honduras with compassion. and we were talking to this young mother in this you know hut, and tears flowing down her face. she's saying i'm so glad compassion came to our project because now my youngest daughter won't have to sell her body the way her older sister had to. i found spending my life and energy to bless other people is more rewarding than just sitting back and ting to get all the glory for myself. ♪ >> tenth avenue north. giving of themselves. using their music and faith to help break the shackles of slavery. liberating people to live their lives beyond the dreams.

energy stocks rallying on wall street helping the market come out of a five-day slump. ending the dow on an upswing 200 points. however, some warn that oil and industry is on the verge of cutting production which could put jobs in jeopardy. let's bring in patricia powell who is the director and ceo of powell financial group. >> good to be back. >> we're here talking about what is potentially good news. but at the pump people saying that the gas prices going lower people in connecticut saying oh my god, it's below $2. >> absolutely. >> good news for consumers. >> and so why is there some alarm? >> well, the alarmists say well, this is depressionary. and it is. but it can be helpful to the overall economy. the argument is we d deflation. the great depression had

deflation and it postpones purchasing. so the consumer part of the economy collapses under deflation. nobody wants deflation. on the other hand, lower prices of commodities can be very helpful to the consumer. you have people in washington trying to take that away. talking about raising the gas tax. you can see that in states, you know, so you get this little bump. and already, some governments, people, are trying to put their hands in your pocket and take it away from you. >> if they're like me they don't want that. how low can oil go? >> that's a really good question. it's actually a multitrillion dollar question you're asking. nobody has the answer. i'm more surprised. the united states is producing more oil today than it did 35 years ago. it wasn't that long ago that those pundits were saying, can't happen. but it is happening. 49% is coming from shale. saudi arabia is ---ing united

states is producing at the highest cost. saudi probably has the lowest cost in the world. what we have now is say lower price of oil. how long will the drillers stay on line before saying it's unprofitable, we can't stay online and you see the supplies shrinking. and when it does that, the inverse happens. we get higher prices. >> then we got trouble. so how does this impact the united states on perhaps a geopolitical level with regard to our competitors, russia china? >> a very big deal. you have countries like russia, venezuela, iran that are producing oil at higher costs than the current price of oil. and nigeria and they make commitments to their -- their people that we're going to use these oil revenues to do stuff for you. and now they can't because it costs more than it can to get it out of the ground. so you have tremendous economic pressure on these countries.

and as you know pressure of that sort can lead to all kinds of unusual political activity. and it can be quite dangerous. >> so dangerous indeed. and what does it mean for the united states going forward with our economy, we're predicted to have 2.5 gdp this year. >> i'm happy with any positive numbers. i told you that before. >> sure. >> i love any positive number. even if it's slow or a lackluster recovery. still, we're using the word "recovery." this is good for us. is it some of the oil has to come offline that's the economy. that's part of supply and demand that is normal. you'll have the integrated oil companies, the exxons of the world, the chevrons of the world, they'll come back online. in the short run it's painful particularly for the dakotas texas, layoffs in the manager field. these are good jobs but part overall economy.

all right. so are you like many of us, you struggled to drop the extra pounds especially this time of the year when we're trying to stick to new year's resolutions. a new study finds that you're better off if you stay active. inactivity is worse for you than obesity. we have the chair of the lennox hospital and a member of the fox news medical a-team. why is inactivity in fact more dangerous than being overweight? that in fact if you don't do

exercise, it could potentially be more deadly? >> this is true. this is an important study actually. they looked at 300,000 men and women. followed them for 12 years. looked at the height, weight the waist circumference. they found out that 20 minutes of brisk walking can reduce the risk of death which is unreal. we always talk about heart disease and stroke. the question is how does this happen? well, if you're obese and you have the fat around the organs, visceral fat as we call them, what they do is make your insulin hormone not effective. they work on the muscle so you become diabetic. they press your kidneys and your salt will go up you'll end up with high blood pressure. it affects all your organs and basically locks up your liver. which is a filter, and all the bad cholesterol will get into your system.
