support of police officers. we begin tonight with our top story. the desperate push to try and prevent another radical islamic terrorist attack in europe. the security net there is tightening across the european continent, reaching all the way to greece with four new terror arrests there. and in yemen where two french citizens are believed to support the terror group, they have also been arrested for their support of al-qaeda. soldiers are standing guard in belgium and across europe after those raids snagged dozens of suspects in western europe and one of the killers and their french newspaper massacres has been buried. amy kellogg is following the latest developments live now from paris. >> reporter: hi, eric. from what i can tell, people across europe for the most part are going about their lives as usual. but when you stop to ask them, they will tell you that this security situation, of course,
3:02 pm
is never far from the front of their mind or the surface of their thoughts. people don't know whether these 30 some arrests that have taken place in europe across europe over the last few days has put a significant dent in the jihaddist threat or whether this represents the tip of the iceberg and frankly, what it will take ultimately to melt the iceberg. the focus has shifted in the last couple of days to belgium which per capita, has probably the highest number of jihaddists who have gone off to fight in iraq and syria. antiterrorist police round up people in the last couple days who had military grade weapons on them and a significant amount of cash among other things. they were planning to carry out an attack yesterday, so they were grabbed just in the nick of time. the army has been deployed around certain cities. many jewish schools closed yesterday as a precaution. and then the dragnet in this situation here extends all the way to greece.

greek police, antiterrorist units arrested four men this evening. initially they were believed to be somehow involved in this belgium story. but it turns out the belgium prosecutor is saying this evening that they are not believed to be part of that foiled plot in belgium. and finally, the reaction to the publication of the survivors issue of charlie hebdo continues with these very violent protests in africa where we've seen five people killed and numerous churches burned and ransacked. finally, here in paris some people had planned to carry out a rally on the scene islamism out of france. but the police put the coo bash on that because they were concerned with tensions. so that won't be happening tomorrow. eric? >> thank you so much. eric charlie hebdo

yet to give the final okay. a pro-police rally called the sea of blue taking place today in our nation's capitol. the event coming on the heels of recent antipolice demonstrations with protesters taking to the streets overt incident at ferguson and new york. peter doocy live in washington now with more. hi peter. >> reporter: hi. a few hours ago several hundred people made the march from the national law enforcement officers memorial to the steps of the u.s. capitol. the whole point of the so-called sea of blue was to signal to officers across america that not everybody who takes the time to demonstrate is mad at the police. >> very frustrating. very frustrating. yes, people make mistakes but that shouldn't be a generalization for all. so that's the only word i can think of is frustrating. >> reporter: there were references to antipolice
3:07 pm
protests inspired by events in ferguson and staten island. but organizers say the sea of blue is not a direct response to those much larger demonstrations. there is one contrast to today's demonstrators wanted to highlight. that their event did not result in any violence or any property damage, which is a lot different than the other headline-making protests that we've been seeing lately. every day they go out there and they risk their lives for everyone's safety. but people seem to forget that. we're tired of hearing about the publicity. how about pubbizing when the officers do good work? >> there have been similar marches through cleveland and las vegas. we may see even more, even once the tension between police officers and protesters is an afterthought because as the sea of blue was wrapping up today, one of the organizers told the crowd he would see them next year.

arthel. >> okay. thanks. there has been a deadly shooting in a mall in central florida. melbourne. a 57-year-old suspect shot his wife and then a co-worker. investigators say the survivor, that man's wife, was the intended target of the shooting. they're now look into the relationship between the two. the gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. police say he had several pockets full of ammunition. this all happened about 9:30 this morning at the melbourne square mall. the woman who was injured is said to be in stable condition. police have not released the suspected motive. police are stepping up the search for a missing teenage couple. some are calling a modern day bonnie and clyde. 18-year-old dalton hayes and his 13-year-old girlfriend, cheyenne phillips, have been two-week crime spree since they vanished from kentucky of the they're believed to have a stolen truck

and two guns. bryan llenas has the latest. >> reporter: arthel it's the third the couple has stolen. 2001 toyota tundra taken from someone's driveway on wednesday. 30 miles south of atlanta, georgia. police say two loaded hand guns were inside. that day was also the last confirmed sighting of 18-year-old dalton hayes and 13-year-old cheyenne phillips. but police are now investigating possible sightings in florida. since they went missing on january 3, the body and clyde sweethearts have been on a crime spree spanning from kentucky, north carolina, south carolina and georgia. on monday, surveillance footage at a wal-mart in south carolina shows the teens before and after using two forged checks checks they found in the stolen red 2006 toyota tacoma they abandoned wednesday. the grayson county sheriff suspects hayes is calling all the shots in this and is running

away because he faces burglary and theft charges from an arrest last year. >> dalton is 18 years old. if he really cared for her, he would take her to a police station, drop her off let her be safe and then he can do whatever he thinks he needs to do. >> reporter: the sheriff says they haven't showed a propensity for violence and police are searching homeless shelters. the couple has been dating for three months. hayes announced they were engaged on facebook the same day they disappeared. phillips told friends at school that she's pregnant and hayes' family says the 13-year-old had convinced them all that she was really 19. >> i'm just afraid that he's going to wind up getting her hurt. >> please come home. we love you, we miss you. and we need you home and safe. we know that y'all have done wrong, but you need to step up and take the consequences of what you've done and come home.
3:11 pm
>> reporter: bottom line, the sheriff says they need to surrender before this gets any worse 'cause it can only get worse from here. arthel? >> too bad. thank you very much. eric? looks like more and more it will be hillary clinton and she could be running virtually unopposed in the democratic primary for president. fox news john roberts on the potential pros and cons of rung without the competition. >> not since richard nixon obliterate add weak field in 1960 has a nonincumbent faced less opposition than hillary clinton may in 2016. which for the democratic party may not be all good. >> it's not good for a party because the democratic party needs a real debate about what it's for, who it's for, what it's about, where it will take the country. >> reporter: certainly running virtual eunopposed would save
3:12 pm
her from the pummeling she took in 2008. >> you're likeable enough. >> thank you. >> reporter: and she could amos a war chest few could match. but there is a potential down side to a coronation. >> i think you miss the chance to vet ideas. i think that's what elections are about. they're about ideals on how ideas that would turn into policy and then how we govern and how the life styles are for all americans. >> reporter: with the possibility of no democratic debates, she could skirt thorny questions about the reset with russia and benghazi. >> what difference at this point does it make? >> reporter: but skipping the crucible of the primaries could also leave her off her game as she appeared to be launching her book tour last year. >> we came out of the white house not only dead broke but in debt. >> the hillary clinton i think has proven that when you're off the trail for a while you come back rusty. she certainly came back rusty on that book tour. >> reporter: the republican candidate, on the other hand, is expected to come out bloodied

but battle hardened in what's expected to be a lively campaign. while richard nixon swatted away his republican competition in 1960, he lost the general election. in atlanta john roberts fox news. >> thanks. the sweep for extremists widening in europe. protecting innocent people from jihaddists. are we safe here in the u.s. and what's our strategy? >> negotiators are ready again to try and stop iran from building a possible nuclear bomb. this while congress and the white house are on opposite sides on whether sanctions will delay a potential deal. will they and what do we need to do to do that? >> also is the third time the charm for mitt romney? he isn't the only republican flirting with a run for the white house. >> there is some speculation about whether i'm about to embark on a political enendeavor in which i've been previously

resume tomorrow. this as president obama and prime minister david cameron of britain urging congress not to pursue new sanctions, but some in both the house and senate are demanding. in a joint news conference yesterday, the two leaders warned the threatened sanctions could cause the nuclear talks to collapse. ress disagree. including some of the president's own democrats. molly henneberg in washington with more. >> reporter: even if it has bipartisan support in congress, president obama again is warning lawmakers that he will veto any bill that comes to his desk that imposes new sanctions on iran if this latest round of nuclear talks fails. >> my main message to congress at this point is just hold your fire. nobody around the world, at least of all the iranians, doubt my ability to get some additional sanctions passed should these negotiations fail. >> reporter: president obama says he wants to see if the framework for a new deal to contain iran's nuclear program

can be reached in march between the u.s., france britain germany, russia, china, and iran. but he's getting pushback from republicans and democrats such as new jersey democratic senator bob menendez who told the president at a democratic meeting earlier this week that sanctions could not be imposed quickly enough if the talks fall through. and he urged the president to approve them now in case the u.s. needs that authority in the future. in addition, the new republican chairman of the senate foreign relations committee, tennessee senator bob corker, put out a statement saying quote, there is no doubt that it is the leverage provide provided by congress that forced tehran to the negotiating table and i continue to believe that congress weighing in on this critical issue can help these negotiations succeed, not undermine them. president obama may talk more about this veto threat over additional sanctions on iran in his state of the union speech next week. he said something similar in last year's state of the union as well. eric?

>> thanks so much. from america's election headquarters, the race is on for the white house. republicans announcing the primary debate schedule. at least nine debates are planned and they promise to be a showdown between the veterans and the newcomers. the establishment and the far right. who will be left standing? can that person be the democratic favorite beat hillary clinton? tammy because is a fox news contributor, marjorie clifton is principal at clifton consulting. >> hi. >> so some democrats may be sitting back snickering that the gop have so many candidates in the race at this point. but tammy, starting with you you say the democrats should not snicker so fast because having that one strong horse in the race could prove to be a handicap. >> look, that was the case certainly they thought in 2008. you don't want to get too confident thinking you're
3:21 pm
entitled to this and there will be no competition. the lack of competition makes you weak. there is not enough challenge for you to be really up to date on what's happening and what you need to be doing. with the republicans, on the other hand look, since when is having a loft talent a bad thing? i think having a loft talent is a terrific thing and the primary season we're going to be able to see these men deliver and we'll see who survives. we're going to see who really is able to hold up under the pressure. challenge is good. like making a diamond out of coal. the more pressure you have, the more you might get from it. so i think it's very exciting and i think the democrats are in a very difficult position because look, a lot of them don't like hillary clinton and what's their alternative? >> marjorie, you say what? >> well, i do say it is interesting to have many candidates to choose from. now, the challenge of that in a primary is it means that party has to pander to the more, in this case, conservative side of the party. how is that going to end up play not guilty a general election when you've said things in a primary that you may have to kind of temper when you get to
3:22 pm
the general election? i think part of the challenge with the landscape of the republican candidates right now is there isn't that clear front runner and there is a lot of questions attached to most of the candidates. so the question becomes for example, with jeb bush, can he get past the bush legacy and the bush name? is he going to be seen as progressive for his party given his positions on some of the social issues? and then you have a recycling of a lot of the candidates we saw in 2012 who weren't front runners for a number of reasons. so the question becomes is there somebody new like scott walker, for example that might present the formidable challenge to someone like hillary clinton? you're right, it is interesting to have hillary out and alone on the democratic side but ten again, that's very seasoned politician. and it gives her a chance to build her war chest and really take a more center point party line in the primaries. >> let's do a little word association. one word tammy, you're going to go first. then marjorie. here we go.
3:23 pm
mitt. >> winner. >> dog on top of the car. >> that's not one word. >> i know. let's go on. tammy, jeb? >> loser. >> family name. >> i'm not doing one word well. >> i don't know about this. tammy, rand? >> boy opportunist. >> marjorie? >> son. >> okay. tammy, cruz? >> potential. >> extreme. >> all right tammy. christie? >> boy. obama hug. that's one word. >> yeah, a dash in there. a hyphen, i swear. >> okay. go ahead marjorie. >> unpolished. >> and tammy, finally we'll go with walker?
3:24 pm
>> remarkable. >> unknown. >> okay. by the way, i just threw that on the ladies. they were not expecting that. so thank you for going with that. very good. >> would we have lost the game show? i don't know. i don't know if we were going to make the wheel of fortune any time soon. >> we appreciate it. we talk about this stuff all the time, so we got to mix it up and keep it interesting. that's what we're doing here. we'll give you a few more words -- i was told wrap. so unfortunately, we have to end the segment there. how about that? >> i like it, though. >> i said i like it. >> we'll do it again. >> marjorie, and tammy speaking of one word you got to start call meg art again. i'm feeling left out. >> i'll do it. >> see you guys. >> what do they win? where is jay fix? >> that's a reference, i'm sorry, i'm going to leave that's
3:25 pm
too old for me. >> i know everyone at home knows him. coming up, did you know with this, that the u.s. says more than 45 million of us receive food stamps? coming up, we'll show you the states that are getting the most and what it means. plus, the u.s. reacting to the arrests in france as europe ramps up tactics to combat terror.

some muslim leaders and now protesters have gathered in texas for the annual stand with the prophet conference. it comes a week after the terrorist attacks in paris. those images shocking the world and reigniting the debate over radical islam and causing controversy at the event now in the lone star state. casey stegall is reporting live from that event in garland texas. hi casey. >> reporter: hi. we're about 30 minutes minutes from
3:30 pm
the event starting and just in the last hour and a half, we have really seen the crowd of protesters swell. i'm gog step up and show you a live picture of hundreds and hundreds of people who are gathered outside of this conference center. it's sponsored by a nonprove group called sound vision out of chicago and according to the group's web site tonight is about celebrating the prophet mohammed. it's also a fund-raiser to help build a strategic communication center that would lead the effort against what they call islamaphobia, ignorance that all muslims support violence and terrorism. a spokesperson tells me with recent events preliminaries face a real stigma around the world. the group hopes that a conference like this will raise awareness, that islam is fundamentally a peaceful religion and that the vast majority of those who practice it clearly do not condone the extremists.
3:31 pm
>> 120 muslim leaders signed on to an open letter to isis saying that this is unislammic. that these actions that you are perpetrating go against the very core of our faith and i don't think you can say it in any stronger terms than that. >> reporter: this man is tonight's keynote speaker and that has raised some eyebrows. that's one of the reasons why so many protesters are out here. he is an imam from new york. along with 200 others as unindicted persons who may be alleged as co-conspirators of the 1993 world trade center bombing. but we should note he was never charged. but there are quite a few critics obviously of this event, including the national center for policy analysis.
3:32 pm
>> at this moment in time coming after what happened in paris france and what happened ensuingly in belgium, we have to be concerned about the type of incendiary language that is being roll mull gated here in the united states. >> people are also upset because this conference is being held at a building that is owned by the local school district here. the district is not sponsoring the event, but they rent the spaces out to groups that wish to utilize it and the school district says they cannot discriminate against those who look to use this facility. eric? >> casey, you can really hear the shouts and chants of those row testers behind you. thank you. european countries are ramping up their antiterrorism efforts, boosting security and moving aggressively to root out suspected terrorists. let's bring in captain bob wells now. he's a retired member of the u.s. navy and former national security advisor to vice
3:33 pm
president dick cheney. captain, thank you for being here. how do we end up in such a conundrum? >> thank you, arrest they will. i think we ended up in this because the islamic extremists elements continue to look at what their end state would like to be. we have been at it for over 20 years with regard to a global jihad. it started back in 1994. i also look with interest at the pope right now in the philippines, 20 years ago pope john paul was there and you had youssef there plot to go kill pope john paul. so they've been with it. they were back there again because we've got more unrest and turmoil with regard to syria and also iraq and we have these home grown terrorists and also this foreign fighter element now that is informed by this expanding internet and social media. so people need to have a reason for being and i think we're here
3:34 pm
because they want us to be there. >> where do we go from here? >> we really need to plan. i think the administration really needs to channel president eisenhower. i think we need to look forward and make sure we plan what does 2016 really look like? president bush after 9-11 established the department of homeland security, looked at the capability and the capacity we needed, looked at the policies we needed looked at the information exchange policies we needed. i think this period of time where we got so much turmoil inside syria and iraq where you've got these home grown challenges and also the foreign fighters returning with this social media is a totally different brew. and we need to have the capability and the capacity in the united states. we also need to provide additional capability and capacity to support our allies in europe right now. it's a wake-up call in paris and looking at today's events in this last week's events in brussels and in belgium and greece and yemen, it's time for
3:35 pm
the us to us continue doing what we're doing, but also plan for the future and making sure we have the capability and capacity right. >> you mentioned the social media aspect of it and how these extremists radical islamist groups are using social media quite effectively for propaganda. i don't think i asked this without lots of americans on board with me saying why is it that we can't stop their access to social media? why can't we shut their system down? is that even possible? >> it's possible, but there is a lot of legalities here. even in the bush administration, we had some challenges with regard to the intelligence requirements on looking at under the patriot act, what was happening inside the united states and how they communicated to different cells outside the united states. at that particular time, it was al-qaeda focused. al-qaeda affiliated network focused. but inside the united states, you have legal protections with regard to access to these
3:36 pm
particular information networks. you still have patriot act procedures and processes in place. you need to have probable cause and there still is a reasonable expectation of privacy. >> yeah. i know -- >> it's a delicate balance arthel. >> pardon me for cutting you off. delicate dance. i really understand. but look it's a new day. quite frankly they're not listening to me and my phone calls, or they don't want my information. they have to get the information of these people who are out to kill us. >> that's a critical point. in fact, we have to de the reality. not as we wish it. america is a great country. we're very idealistic. we have the rule of law. we have our principles enshrined in our constitution. but we also have the duty to make sure that we protect our people. and we need to go the extra mile. we have the organizations set up after 9-11. there is a new threat now with this homegrown as well as the foreign fighter response. you have disintegration of the
3:37 pm
nation states in syria and iraq. the still have bow coha boko haram. it only takes one or two leaders within these particular notes to threaten the united states and also have support from people here in the united states. so i think better planning, looking ahead to 2017 supporting our allies, getting it right. that's where we need to be. >> and getting together, having one accord on what it is that plan should be and what it should look like. that's what i think. >> yes. >> captain wells, i have to go and i appreciate your time and i look forward to speaking to you again. thank you so much. >> thank you. good evening. president obama is going to be ready to roll out his agenda three days from now. he'll discuss his remaining days in office. we'll have a preview of this state of the union, what he will say, what it will mean and what if anything, he hopes to achieve. also we all learned in school about the solar system
3:38 pm
3:42 pm
scientists in the great britain and spain say that there may be more planets in our solar system. scientists say the study found at least two new planets they think are larger than earth maybe lurking out there somewhere beyond through toe. they say planets are considered quote, extreme transneptunian objects. the american astronomical society say there is little earth out there. 500 light years away. that's similar to our planet. but i bet they don't have jalapeno poppers. >> and then what's the point? then what's the point? i'll just stay right here. >> i agree.
3:43 pm
the economy is looking up for a lot of people, but millions still get the wage pinch from their employers or they can't find work at all. that forces them on food stamps to feed their families. nearly 50 million americans are on the government program as of last september according to federal data. the places hit the hardest include the district of columbia mississippi, new mexico, west virginia and oregon. a family of four that makes less than $2,500 a month before taxes is eligible for food stamp stamp. dealing with those issues on jobs and such will come up three days from now during the state of the union. it's the first time president obama will face a completely republican-controlled congress. he's expected to trumpet the growing economy and unveil his agenda for the final term. will he put his party on a path to help it in 2016? susan estridge is a professor of law and political science at usc
3:44 pm
and fox news contributor who was a campaign manager for national presidential campaign campaign and knows all about this stuff. one prediction is going to be a surprise because it's going to be a lot quieter because those republicans will be sitting on their hands. he's got more republicans there than he had last time than democrats. you got that rousing -- like the house of commons. when one side all jumps up, cheering him on. the other side sits on their hands. what do you expect will happen? >> i think he's going to sound like he's reaching out to work with congress. he's going to say all these things about how we want to work together and the poor republicans sitting this will have no choice but to applaud because what are they going to do? sit on their hands when the president says we want to work together? but the truth is they aren't going to work together afterwards. so i think the version will be the applause lines will be things like our support for our troops at home and abroad. everybody will go up on that.
3:45 pm
so many times as you can, you want red meat for the american people. but basically i think the bottom line is a lot of this is going to be just hot air. >> hot air. do you think that he will address the issue of radical islamic terrorism? 20 bucks right now he's not going to say those words. but do you think he will address the issue of terrorism that we face here at home that has hit us like what we saw in paris especially with all these arrests going on in western europe? >> look, he has to. i mean, he's not going to use those words. but he has to. when you ask people what do you care about, most of us care about our security. we want to be secure in our homes. we want to be secure in our jobs. and we want our country to be secure. and so if he's standing there in the wake of what's happened in paris and around the world, he has got to address the issue of terrorism. he's got to say we'll stop at nothing. i used to right these speeches. we'll go to every end and blah, blah blah. the question is does he have something concrete to add?
3:46 pm
how does he address related issues like cyber security and what's gone on with the central intelligence agency? there is a lot of tricky stuff here. so yeah, the president will wrap himself in the antiterrorism flag, but i'm not sure what that means in concrete terms. >> you just said you used to write these speeches. where does that -- what is that process like? what did you consider when you write these type of speeches, 'cause there has been a lot of commentary how this speech is getting small, how the state of the union has been reduced for some reason. >> well, i think it may be small -- well, lots of reasons it's getting small. what happens in practice is this is the speech that goes through 17 drafts and has younger versions of people like me staying up all night consistently responding to sometimes inconsistent comments. then earlier drafts get leaked, so you not only are responding to today's comments, but you've
3:47 pm
got the comments to the speech that aren't even being given. then you got somebody like president obama who is sitting in there with a yellow pad. so even his senior aides don't know for sure whether they're working off the text that he has or they have. and all of this will continue to process until the last minute when finally somehow it gets cut and pasted together and you have the speech. >> yeah. i remember the time bill clinton did it on his own. >> yeah. there is always that great joke about the speech writer who resigned from lbj and the resignation card said after all the initial thanks to this one and this one, it said you're on your own, you. i like that one. >> house of cards is coming up. i bet there will be a story line like that. good to see you. >> yep. >> you can read susan's syndicated column in newspapers across the country every wednesday and friday. arthel? >> i love house of cards.

>> well, a snack bar is a convenient choice between meals for many people especially the folks who work long hours without loving their desk. >> the bars that might seem healthy and berries and nuts on them, but consumer reports magazine found they are not all the best. after testing, they pick four winners. >> this is sue perry with shop smart, you looked at 24 bars, what were you looking for? >> actually 28 bars and looked at berry nut and also chocolate and what we were looking for in the bars how do they taste and
3:53 pm
how good are they for you and what is in the stuff. we analyzed the ingredients and what you see on winners are based on two numbers we put together. taste and nutrition. best tasting and better for you bars out of 28 we had 4, 51 didn't get here today. >> starting with the one you chose. ub are bar? >> this is. (laughter) you are going out of order. this is the uber bar. ulara bar. and it is this one and has six grams of protein and three grams of fiber and cost 1.25 and it was really nice tasting and what we liked about it ton was
3:54 pm
chocolate chips and salty nuts and roasted salty nuts and we liked the knavor. >> good flavor. and what about the calorie count? >> this is the mostical rows of all of them. this has 210 calories. >> wow. >> and a lot of people eat those for a meal. >> and you shouldn't. it shouldn't be awe meal replacement. >> i agree. which one do i pick up next. >> top chocolate is wall revolution. one next to you. >> raw revolution and this is their chunky peanut butter and chocolate flavor and the number one yummi est chocolate and three grape grams of protein. and fiber. 1.60 and it was quite delicious and gives you thero tone hit.
3:55 pm
