playing themselves out. >> all of that plus our question of the day, "hannity" starts right here, right now. welcome to "hannity." tomorrow night president obama will speak to the nation during his annual state of the union address. but despite the sweeping republican victory in the midterm elections, president obama remains defiant. now, remember when he said this back in 2013? >> you don't like a particular policy or a particular president, then argue for your position. go out there and win an election. push to change it. but don't break it. >> well guess what? republicans did go out they argued their positions and the american people voted. and because taxpayers want a change in washington republicans now have a record number of seats in the u.s. house of representatives. as a matter of fact, the most since 1949. and in the u.s. senate the gop has regained the majority. the voters have spoken. if president obama won't back down and still refuses to listen to you, the american people. standing by at the white house

with a preview of what taxpayers can expect to hear tomorrow night, fox's own ed henry. ed, i made a list. 7% increase in discretionary spending, $320 billion tax increase, five veto threats, cuba has happened since the election, tax the rich, redistribute wealth won't talk about rad call islam, moving forward on immigration and free tuition. i think we've pretty much got the message that the president didn't get the message. >> free tuition for two years of community college. and as you suggest it's not really free. it's going to cost taxpayers about $60 billion. and it's important for you to raise that because it's tied right into the president's tax plan. because in order to pay for that quote/unquote free community college, he wants to raise tax on the rich to the tune of $220 billion and he wants to use some of the other money raised by the rich by giving tax credit to the tune of about $175 billion to

couples in what he defines as the middle class. what's interesting is he put out a preview of all of these plans today. and it looked a lot like a campaign commercial from 2012 where the president did talk about basically, as you suggest redistributing wealth. what's interesting is a sharp contrast to what the president was saying last fall when he said his policies were on the ballot and that we would find out whether these policies would survive or not. listen to what he said today and what he said before the midterm. >> this state of the union gives me an opportunity to present to the american people now that we have fought our way through the crisis, how do we make sure that everybody in this country how do we make sure that they're sharing in this growing economy? i'm not on the ballot this fall. michelle's pretty happy about that. but make no mistake, these policies are on the ballot. every single one of them.

>> he said those policies were on the ballot. he won on those policies in 2012 but clearly lost in the 2014 midterms. and that's why republicans today came out and said the early look of what we're reporting on about these plans will be invalid tomorrow night. so the president's divorce from reality and doesn't want to deal with the new power dynamic on capitol hill with republicans running both chambers of congress. the white house position when i talked to a senior aide said, look, the economy is recovering and the president's plan over the last six years would wreck the economy instead it's recovering. if you look at "the washington post"/abc news poll are coming back because of that recovering economy. he's going to spread his wings and try and lay out his aggressive plans for what he wants to do in his final two years. but the reality is republicans are going to block a lot of that, sean. >> ed henry live at the white house tonight. ed, as always thank you. before we get to our guest here, let's put this in perspective for you. in 2008 the president said $9 trillion in debt was

irresponsible and unpatriotic. that's what he said. we now have $18 trillion in debt. by the time this president leaves office he may have accumulated more debt than every other president before him combined. is that irresponsible? is that unpatriotic? now we have a doubling of people on food stamps, 50 million americans in poverty, 92 million americans are outside the labor force. let's look at who pays the taxes in america. if you look at the top 1% the latest year we have 2012, the top 1% the president, again, he wants to raise $320 billion in new taxes on them. they already paid 38.9% of the taxes. the bottom 50% pays $2.8%. and he wants to increase discretionary spending 7%. if you look at these numbers, in actual real numbers, the top 1% paid in 2012 $451.33 billion. the bottom 50% of wage earners, $31 billion. joining us now with reaction, former florida congressman, ceo

of national center for policy analysis colonel alan west and co-host of "the five" bob beckel. top 1% pays 38%. the bottom 50% pays $2.87%. the president wants to tax the 1%, the rich more. is that fair? >> of course it's fair. >> of course. >> obviously it's going to catch you, it's going to catch me it's going to catch alan west. but it's politics he's playing here. it is a recovering economy, you could call a booming economy. approval ratings are going up. i think he's going to say i'm not backing up for what i stood for before this midterm election. i was elected by more people by the way voted for republican members of congress. >> actually, he got 3.5 million fewer votes in 2012. >> than what? >> than he got in 2008. >> no, that's not what i was talking about. >> here's the president, colonel west, he says he's going to go on offense, 7% increase in

discretionary spending he's nearly doubled the debt and taken on as much debt as every president before him combined. then you mention cuba, five veto threats. immigration, he'll just re-write the laws and free tuition and make the rich pay for it. what politically is he doing here? i think he's sending a message. >> i don't know if the president has ever been to the battlefield of gettysburg but also general george pickett went on charge there it was valiant but failed. i think that's what you're seeing here. politically the president may be making an argument to try to demonize the gop and republicans, but when you look at those numbers you just talked about, it does not make sense. if we were raising taxes to truly do something to lower our debt, if we were raising taxes to get the 90 to 91 million americans dropped out of the work force back to work then the american people could understand it. if you go back and look at how president bill clinton pivoted in 1994 and he worked with the

republican majorityies in the house and senate, they were able to cut the size and scope of the government. >> clinton worked with the republicans. and you know what? the country benefitted. let me go to bob. >> listen, let me -- >> okay. because we all know this isn't going to happen what he's proposing. but all i see is a guy, the frank marshal davis guy, the right guy. bill clinton said the era of big government was over after he lost midterm. >> the fact of the matter is the biggest change we've seen in terms of legislation and policy moves in this country have been when one party controls the white house and the other controls the congress. go back to civil rights -- >> so where's obama reaching across the aisle? >> i think where he's going to reach across is on trade. there is going to be a tax deal done. look, he cannot afford to go for another two years with nothing being accomplished. nor by the way can republican congress have nothing they can show for. >> let me ask you a question if

"american sniper" has smashed box office records making over $105 million this past weektd. the powerful epic starring bradley cooper and sienna miller is based on the true life story of navy s.e.a.l. sniper chris kyle. >> do you ever think that you might have seen things or done some things over there that you wish you hadn't? >> oh, that's not me, no. >> what's not you? >> i was just protecting my guys. they were trying to kill our soldiers. and i'm willing to meet my creator and answer every shot that i took. the thing that haunts me are all the guys that i couldn't save. >> well, despite the film's success, predict bli some hollywood liberals are on the attack. michael moore took to twitter and wrote my uncle killed by sniper in world war ii, we were taught snipers are cowards, will shoot you in the back.

snipers aren't heroes invaders are worse. but if you're on the roof of your home defending it from invaders who've come 7,000 miles, you are not a sniper you are brave, he said he never mentioned "american sniper" in he has tweets but reiterated his belief that snipers are cowards, coincidence? i don't think but the left wing lunacy doesn't stop there. actor seth rogen compared to a fake nazi propaganda film. "american sniper" reminds me of the movie that's showing in the third act of "in glorious basterds." " sean, let me start with you. i know my reaction, navy s.e.a.l.s, our military protect michael moore and seth rogen's right to be dumb and ignorant and idiotic in their comments and even mean spirited.

what's your reaction? >> sean, don't hold back anything about how you feel about their comments. second, michael moore has backed off of his comments -- >> no he really didn't though. he's still saying snipers are cowards. snipers are the guys that saved the lives of american troops that are about to be killed. that's their job. >> i'm with you. i mean the definition of cowardese is not taking accountability for your own words. another thing is wrongly attacking or insinuateing a man is cowardly when he's not even here to defend himself. believe me if chris kyle were here, he'd probably hit back on his own. that's why i'm responding because he's not. i think it's highly ironic that a guy like michael moore uses the freedom he's been graciously gifted by the american soldiers and heroes like chris kyle to then turn around and blame the american militaries for all the problems of the world. to me that's the definition of irony and coward at the same time. >> i agree with sean.

it is ironic the very freedom michael moore has is a gift that's given to him by god and protected by a strong military. his right to be ignorant and his right to be mean and stupid. that's protected by the military as well. >> yeah i find it interesting that michael moore wants to come out and say snipers are cowards. the person who lacks to do or endure dangerous or unpleasant things. i think the only unpleasant thing michael moore has gone through recently is the amount of hate and discontent he stirred from this comment. him trying to step back from it to utilize sniper analogy here, you know, once you fire that shot, you can't take that round back. that's what makes our snipers so effective and amazing on the battlefield. they've done all this training and do all these calculations. they don't fire that round without thinking through the decisions that they made on that

target. michael moore obviously didn't think through that decision before he fired this shot off. >> yeah. the movie was amazeing. when we left here friday after we did our special full hour on "american sniper" and chris's dad and wife were on the program, you know thrks is how "new york times" characterized. they were surprised. we were expecting $60 million at that point. the movie that the $105 million weekend take which breaks all january records and by every definition as a blockbuster film. but "new york times" said, oh, they were surprised hollywood was surprised the conservative heartland crowd surprised hollywood by its size. you know doesn't that kind of tell you a little bit about new york hollywood, the d.c. crowd sean, they kind of don't get that red part of america, the heart and soul of the country. >> yeah. any time i see comments like this i think comments whether from michael moore or seth rogen, i think what it does is

underscores an inherent anti-military bias in hollywood. and i think if hollywood could just get past that bias, you'd see more military blockbusters celebrating american exceptionalism, selfless service, honor and integrity on the battlefield and make hundreds of millions all at the same time. right off the top of my head couple stories that come to my mind are trident and -- >> jason, interesting, it got six nominations for oscars. i assume the academy of motion pictures now got what they wanted because probably a lot of people are going to watch the academy awards probably to watch "american sniper" get snubbed by a movie that most americans did not want to see because the next highest grossing movie was only $21 million this weekend. i think "selma" for example rounded out the top five with $10.3 million. i would fully expect that

"american sniper" gets snubbed by the hollywood elites. your thoughts? >> i don't think it really matters, sean. you know, it doesn't really matter what hollywood thinks. you know they're going to try and drive the messaging. >> i agree. >> they're a loud mouth minority that want to try and drive their views and agenda. it's obviously -- it's obvious that the american people stepped up and shown what they're looking for. they are hungry for leadership. they're hungry for heroes. and that's what our american military has been doing for the last 13 years since this war broke out. chris kyle was a hero. he went out there and he was willing to sacrifice himself to make a difference in not only his brothers' lives but in the lives of the american people. even in the lives of somebody like michael moore and seth rogen who have no clue what we were out there fighting for or didn't even understand it. it comes back to the freedoms that they have to make comments like that. >> let me play a little clip from taya, kyle who is chris's

wife when she was on the program this past friday night. watch this. >> the horror of it is that they were there trying to help and that somebody could turn his gun and intentionally kill two people in cold blood that's where the horror is i think, for me. and at the same time i think maybe it was always in some way chris was going to die the way he lived, serving others. because that was such a big part of him. >> real quick. both of you were friends with chris. i'll start with you, sean. did that movie accurately portray chris the way he really was? >> yes absolutely. and i think that "american sniper" -- chris's experience -- "american sniper" is an interspective look on a man for five years and his family. if that can create a dialogue in this nation to help bring our veterans home and make their homecoming better, we will be a better nation for it. because our veterans are the

future leader, entrepreneurs and innovators in this country. we have to encourage them not just to come home and reintegrate but come back and reinvigorate america. >> that scene is how the movie starts where that woman and young kid and chris has to make a decision about whether to shoot both of them. jason, did the movie accurately portray your friend? >> yeah, absolutely. i think the greatest thing about the movie is it doesn't paint chris as some sort of this hard core warrior, the achilles hercules, just this war-focused movie. instead it really touched upon the idea that war is a horrible thing. for seth rogen to liken this to nazi propaganda is ridiculous because it does show the demons all veterans come home that they carry with them. and chris carried them. you know obviously. like i said when he made those shots, when he did those things he was doing it to save lives. but it also showed the heavy burden that comes with fighting
