$499. i'm on 'reilly tonight the show. it will be a delightful show. >> that is weird. that is it for hello. i'm arthel neville. welcome to america's news headquarters. >> i'm eric shawn. topping the news this hour, we've been reporting on this video that claimed isis has executed one of its two japanese hostages, one day after its deadline for two million dollars in ransom. it seems that the terrorist groups wants something besides money in exchange for a second life. republicans descend on iowa where the maneuvering has begun in their 2016 race for the white house. >> we are, as far as i know and everything that i can do we did everything as right as we could do it. >> did you hear bill belichick? he sounded more like a science professor talking atmospherics

and football equilibrium. trying to turn down the heats on his patriots one week from the super bowl. first, we start tonight with president obama. he is expected to land later on this evening in india. that after a stop to refuel on air force one in germany. the white house announcing that he will cut short that trip though, to visit the new king of saudi arabia and to pay his respects to the late king abdullah. the white house said the new king welcomed the news of the president's visit and that one topic during the visit will likely be security, isis and the fight against terrorism. saudi arabia just north of yemen, yemen already home to al-qaeda's most dangerous branch and rebels toppled the u.s. supported president there and pushed the very poor country closer to chaos. ed henry has more on the president's trip. how much pressure was there for the president to change the plans and actually go to saudi
3:02 pm
arabia? >> reporter: good to see you there was a fair amount of pressure because the late king abdullah had been critical of the u.s. not showing enough leadership in the middle east in prior months particularly upset about the crisis in syria and iran. he wanted the u.s. to show they were still very tight with saudi arabia, would provide that kind of stability in the region. that's why it's interesting because the white house initially told us joe biden would lead the delegation to riyadh and changed that and said the president would be meeting with king salaman, the new king. you mentioned yemen to the south of saudi arabia, to the north you have iraq bordering saudi arabia with isis there. across the persian gulf to the east you have iran. and so after taking a lot of heat over not going himself to that paris rally a couple weeks ago, it's clear this time the president realized he needed to go himself and send a signal here. >> we'll have more on that change in just a moment.
3:03 pm
the king's death is overshadowing the trip to india. but what is the focus of the president's trip there where you are in new delhi? >> reporter: the white house has some modest hopes that maybe they can get a climate change deal with india. that would gain some steam, pick up momentum after the climate change deal the president got in china last year. that was before republicans officially had taken over the congress and have a bigger say now in these kind of executive moves. so we're already hearing from indian officials that they're getting the word from the white house that they may not have enough running room to really get a climate change deal and might have to focus on getting trade deals and get momentum deals. >> finally, one would expect the security would be unprecedented for the president's trip. >> reporter: sure. the first big event postparis for the president to attend there will be an open parade on

mop. it's republic day where they celebrate the ratification of the constitution here. there is reports that there is on top of the normal secret service presence, there is 1,000 indian snipers, 15,000 new security cameras all throughout the city. dozens of police dogs being brought in to sniff out potential bombs. in this hotel, i literally passed by two indian security officials with very large machine guns in the hotel lobby. they are taking no chances. remember, the mumbai terrorist attack in 2008 still fresh on a lot of minds. >> certainly that a threat. ed henry ho gets around the world with the president, always good to see you. thank you for reporting tonight because it is now 4:34 in the morning where you are in new delhi. >> anything for you. >> thanks. a new video claims isis has murdered a japanese hostage as the terror group is making new demands for a second hostage. the white house releasing a

statement from president obama saying quote, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our ally, japan. we will work together to bring the perpetrators of these murders to justice. john huddy is live in jerusalem with more. john? >> reporter: in that statement president obama also condemned the quote unquote, brutal murder of that hostage. let's take a look at the video i guess you can call it that. it shows 47-year-old man holding what is said to be a picture of the beheaded body of the 42-year-old hostage. in the video, the voice track it's just a still picture, but the voice track of a man claiming to be him implores the japanese prime minister to accept the new demand of a prisoner swap. for a woman who is being held in jordan on terror charges accused of taking part in the 2005 bombings in aman. japanese foreign ministry
3:06 pm
officials have been in jordan since last week reportedly trying to open communication channels with eye circumstances -- isis, though it's unclear if there were any conversations. isis posted a picture of the two men and demanded $200 million from japan for their release. that deadline passed yesterday, a video was released showing countdown clock and images of dead hostages. but nothing came out until today. there is still however some question about the authenticity of the video, of the message that came out. in his statement while condemning the quote unquote brutal murder, president obama did not say how the u.s. knows that the man is dead. japanese officials say they're also investigating the authenticity of the video. that said, after a cabinet meeting tonight japan's prime

minister condemned the act of terrorism, saying it's outrageous and impermissible. arthel? >> thank you very much there in the middle east. a white house official is denying a report that the u.s. has halted some major counter terrorist operations in yemen. that after the pro american government as ed henry was reporting was toppled by an iranian-backed rebel group. this as tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets to protest the shiite rebels. yemen is also home to al-qaeda in the arabian peninsula which claimed responsibility for this month's horrible terrorist attacks in paris. leeland vittert has the very latest on this. >> reporter: yemen has never been a paragon of stability. but it's gone from merely dangerous to lawless and chaotic. up until this week, they cooperated regularly with the c.i.a. and others in the fight against terror. the reports that have been coming out indicated perhaps
3:08 pm
that the folks that very used to call aren't picking up the phone anymore inside the intelligence services there in yemen. even the pentagon says the picture on the ground is unclear and for that matter, who is in charge is a matter of opinion, not fact. the latest reports indicate that iranian-backed rebels control much of the capitol. if true, it would lend credibility to the idea that the united states now has precious few real assets among their local eyes and ears. >> we can't operate there now despite the investments we've made. when you put that on top of the fact that you've got this chaos in saudi arabia, we have really very few options on how we move forward to go after the bad guys here. >> reporter: yemen's tribal lands have long served as a breeding and training ground for al-qaeda and now it's home to its most powerful branch aqap. last year alone the u.s. carried out 23 drone strikes against terrorist targets with the help of yemen security forces. the obama administration also considered its recently resigned president a key ally in the
3:09 pm
fight against terror. yesterday the pentagon said that while things might be more difficult now, they will do what they need to. >> certainly a willing partner in yemen, as in many places around the world, it makes missions like that much more effective. there is no question about it. we also have proven the ability to go after terrorists in various places around the world unilaterally. we will still retain that right that responsibility. >> so who exactly are the iranian-backed rebels possibly in control of yemen? here they are, videos chanting death to israel, death to america. would give the casual observer serious pause when thinking about the chances of a fruitful continuing relationship with yemen and its security forces if these guys take over. >> thanks so much. arthel? >> iowa plays a unique and

special role in the political process. the men and women gathered here today and across the state. you have a responsibility that you take very seriously to scrutinize any candidate for national office. to look them in the eye and hold them to account. >> texas senator ted cruz speaking earlier today at the iowa freedom summit the largest gathering of potential gop presidential hopefuls so far in one place and you could say it marks the official start of the 2016 presidential race. there is a live look there of texas governor rick perry former governor, who is speaking now. at least two dozen republicans gathering in des moines amongst them, chris christie, mike huckabee dr. ben carson and donald trump and as i said really emphatic there. love to hear what he had to say. i'm going to find out from carl

cameron. some big names are not there mitt romney, jeb bush, marco rubio and rand paul. chief political correspondent, carl cameron. what is governor perry saying carl? >> reporter: he was talking about his own success in texas as the longest serving and most elected governor in the state's history and he, as most of the republican candidates have done, is beating up on president obama. now he's talking about immigration, immigration policy has been something that has been discussed at great length, particularly as it regards jeb bush who is in support of giving some unauthorized aliens legal status in this country. it's very unpopular here. earlier today it was wisconsin governor scott walker who brought the crowd to its feet over and over again with a speech heavily laden with policy. he is said the one who might be able to unite the tea party and gop establishment. in talking about his record in wisconsin, he made it clear that results matter a heck of a lot more in his mind than just

giving speeches. watch. >> since i've been governor, we passed pro-life legislation and we've defunded planned parenthood. we lowered taxes on employers on individuals, on property. our property taxes are lower today in wisconsin than they were four years ago. how many governors can say that? >> reporter: so we'll show you a live shot now as during the speech from texas governor rick perry, protesters have begun taking him on for his immigration policy. there you see a live shot. this is the first time today's event has beenupted. this isn't the first disruption. it's not the first time there has been controversy. the two front runners in the polls, mitt romney and jeb bush, are not coming here today. they've got other things to do out there, raising money fundraising, building support. now you hear rick perry trying to shout down these protesters, we should tell you that while jeb bush and mitt romney were not here, donald trump was.
3:13 pm
he feels very strongly about those two. listen to what he said. >> you can't have romney e. choked. you can't have bush. >> reporter: there you hear what he had to say. as they begin to take the protesters out of here in what's been something of a shouting match between demonstrators who support comprehensive immigration reform and rick perry who believes it's possible for some unauthorized aliens to get legal status but not most and all the republican field here has said that what they call amnesty should be abandoned. there are a number of other speakers that we expect to hear before the end of the night. chris christie for one and mike huckabee for another. this is one of the most conservative contests in the country. the iowa caucuses rely heavily on social conservatives. that's going to make a very big difference in this contest. what we've heard today is a lot of policy expected from scott
3:14 pm
walker, calls from opposition to the democratic agenda and obama bashing. but from almost all the candidates, a cry for republicans to come up with positive solution. sarah palin said she was quote certainly interested in running for president, but her speech today was not one that sounded much like a candidate. there is no question that this is one of the most important things of the weekend. tomorrow there is another cattle call that will take place in california hosted by the koch brothers freedom partners organization that will have four presidential candidates at it. it's not just iowa that's ground zero of the 2016 takeoff today. it will be tomorrow as well where this event will take place in palm springs. this is definitely the weekend that's launching the presidential candidates. >> certainly the weekend. those protesters got rowdy there. boy. thank you. the growing gridiron controversy for new england patriots coach bill belichick. he played offense and defense

with reporters a few hours ago. it's all about those deflate footballs. this as it's reported they may have used the underinflated footballs against the colts. the league says it found 11 of the 12 footballs that the team used were not at the inflation level they should have been. bill belichick who at times sounded like a physics professor talking about atmospherics and what he was a football obtaining equilibrium. he denied any wrongdoing on behalf of the team. >> at no time was there any intent whatsoever to try to compromise the integrity of the game or to gain an advantage. quite the opposite. we feel like we followed the rules of the game to the letter in our preparations, in our procedures, and in the way that we handled every game that we competitively played in.
3:16 pm
>> one thing he didn't do during that news conference was punt. bryan llenas, he did describe some type of football experiment that they conducted? >> reporter: that's right. on that impromptu press conference, it was a fed up but adamant and confident new england patriots coach bill belichick. he said the team conducted an internal study simulating how they prepare footballs during every game day. and after that review he says he's 100% confident his team did not cheat or purposely underinflate the footballs before that afc championship game against the colts. bill belichick could not give a specific reason as to why 11 of the patriots 12 footballs were underinflated in that first half. but he did say the study showed there could be a couple of reasons. the process of texturizing a ball or giving it a good grip could have an effect on a football's psi or the air pressure, as well as atmospheric pressure. take a listen. >> there is a variance between
3:17 pm
each individual football. footballs do not get measured during the game. we have no way of knowing until we went through this exercise that this was really taking place. >> reporter: he reiterated that something happened during the game to make those games deflate. at no time were they prepared any differently, he said. at one point he actually down played the significance of how important or noticeable air pressure is, saying texture actually mattered more. >> the most important part of the football for the quarterback is the feel of the ball. i don't think there is any question about that. and the exterior feel of the ball is not only critical but it's also very easily identifiable. >> reporter: bottom line, it's clear the patriots let something
3:18 pm
happened, but it happened naturally. not because of anything they did. >> okay. and i watched that news conference. he was like a 200-pound linebacker. he was like this when it came to the questions. he doesn't want to talk about this anymore and doesn't want this to be a distraction. >> right. the white house has weighed in on this. he defended his team saying they aren't treaters and re-- cheaters and reiterated he's done talking about this for really ever. >> i'm embarrassed to talk about the amount of time that i've put into this relative to the other important challenge in front of us. >> reporter: the nfl announced friday they have concluded 40 interviews and are still investigating as to whether or not the footballs used in that first half were deliberately underinflated. >> more to come. bryan, thanks so much. this controversy is reaching a new level now. the founding editor of a top sports magazine is calling for the patriots to get thrown out

of the super bowl next week. so could that happen? we will explore that later on in our newscast. a security scare at our nation's busiest airport. fighter jets escorting two commercial planes over what the feds are calling credible threats. that and this. >> there was a rocket attack in ukraine. it left at least 30 people dead and the country's president is calling for an emergency meet to go deal with them. >> world leaders, including david cameron and prince charles, arriving in saudi arabia to pay respects to the late king abdullah as the white house says president obama is playing to cut his india trip short to visit this key ally.

two passenger jets escorted by fighter jets to atlanta's airport after police say they received what they called two credible bomb threats. the delta flight coming from portland and southwest flight coming from milwaukee, both landed safely and no one was injured. the planes were then searched and a bomb squad was on scene and we're just getting word from the f.b.i. in atlanta confirming
3:24 pm
that no explosives were found and both aircraft have been cleared. what changed? just yesterday the white house said president obama would not be traveling to saudi arabia to pay respects to the late king abdullah. this morning there was a switch. officials confirming yes he will cut his trip to india. saudi arabia has had disputes with the administration over not launching attacks in syria and pulling the rug out from under egypt president mubarak. so what will the visit mean? joining us now for a fair and balanced debate, tammy bruce and democratic consultant and former advisor to president clinton. richard and tammy, good evening. >> she's not president yet. >> the first president clinton. bill clinton. we'll see if there is another clinton. back to this president tammy, at first joe biden was scheduled
3:25 pm
to go. why do you think they had a sudden switch? >> look, this has been all in twitter, a discussion on social media. people have been disturbed because all another thing that wasn't of interest to president obama was the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the use wish death camp. that happens on tuesday. many, many heads of state are going to that. he wasn't interested in that. we know, of course, he wasn't interested in the paris march in honoring those victims of fascist terrorists. and yet he's rushing to go to the funeral of the saudi king. so people are wondering i think it speaks to an interesting kind of choice. we also did not send anyone to the margaret thatcher funeral. i think it gives you a little bit of a perspective of what's important to barak obama. at the same time, we know that apparently according to some news reports, that the king of saudi arabia was not a big fan of barak obama and we also know that there is a lot of money that saudi arabia gives former
3:26 pm
presidents. so when they leave office, 25 million, i believe, for the clinton library was revealed when hillary clinton was nominated for secretary of state. there is a lot of different reasons there. perhaps it's obama looking to his future, what happens after he leaves office. >> richard, not a fan. that's an understatement. "new york times" said the king hung up on the president at one point. what do you think this visit will achieve? can it smooth over any of these previous differences? >> i do want to make a prediction that you'll recall the pictures of george w. bush holding the hand and kissing king abdullah who just passed away. i guarantee you there will be people who worked in that bush white house who will be on your air ridiculing whatever barak obama does in saudi arabia. so let me kind of lay that out there. look, the fact -- >> and what does that mean? >> look, what saudi arabia is doing right now in many respects is actually quite positive for the u.s. by flooding the market
3:27 pm
with oil, we are saving hundreds of dollars for every driver in the u.s. we are putting real pressure economically on iran and russia whose economies are predicated on very high oil prices and by those prices being down, it makes iran much more likely to agree to a nuclear deal. we have convinced saudi arabia to bomb isis. sends a real big signal to the arab world when the saudis are engaged in that coalition of ours. the fact of the matter is, the president can't be everywhere at once. if he went to any of these functions, people would say, how come he's not doing something at home on immigration or -- >> this is -- we only have -- it's not a function. he's a head of state. he's been a major ally. so tammy the list that richard gave, they are doing something, are they not? isn't that an achievement? >> i think people are wondering what is this transition in saudi arabia mean for the nation and mean for the war on terror? in fact, the issue is less about
3:28 pm
what's going to happen in saudi arabia. i think they're going to hold their line. their concern should be while they are keeping the market open with oil and causing the price of oil to go down richard is right, that affects iran and russia. barak obama released $450 million to iran last week, which is sponsoring the invaders of yemen as iran is effectively expanding their empire, destroying an ally of ours in the war on terror. the bigger concern should be for saudi arabia, is what is barak obama doing and why is he undoing the impact of the low oil prices, in effectively funding the iraqi regime as they undo yemen and destroy that regime. >> iran is fighting isis. tammy, it's a complicated world. let's agree to that. iran is fighting isis as well. so if we basically try decide every single foreign policy move as to who was opposing whom -- >> they've taken over our

biggest ally in the middle east. they've sponsored the invaders of that nation. i don't think that that -- >> until two days ago we were spun up about isis. let's agree it's very complicated and right now, we don't have men losing their lives in afghanistan and iraq. >> it goes beyond complicated. it goes to the issue of terrorism and how do we keep this country safe. >> that's right. >> thank you for joining us. >> thank you. new england patriots head coach bill belichick holding another news conference, denying any wrongdoing. this after the nfl confirmed the balls supplied by the patriots last sunday did not comply with the rules. how this could impact the patriots and the upcoming super bowl. tragically, isis reportedly executed yet another hostage. now demanding a prisoner swap for the second japanese hostage they still hold. we'll have more on that tragic and continuing horrifying story as fox news channel continues.

isis has reportedly killed one of two japanese hostages. the terror group releasing a new video showing a beheaded hostage. japan strongly demanding the group release the second hostage, but the terrorists say they now want a prisoner swap. former c.i.a. analyst and a senior fellow with the center for security policy is here. good to see you. >> good evening. >> i want to start with isis saying no longer too we want ransom, we want a prison swap for a would-be suicide bomber held in a jordanian prison. if this swap is made, what are the implications? >> i want to say my heart goes out to japan and the family of the hostages for this horrible incident.
3:35 pm
i think we had to try to figure out what is isis doing here? i think they've come to the determination that prime minister is not going to pay $200 million for a hostage. the reason is clear, 200 million would be used for isis to commit more atrocities and capture more hostages. so i think they're trying to see what they can get for these hostages and knowing that it isn't going to be a large amount of money. >> so if this swap takes place then what do you make of that? it's still a negotiation. >> that's right. isis will see that it won. they will see they got out of capturing hostages. but the swap would be better than providing it money that would sustain its terrorist operation. so it might be something that we'll see happen. >> what do you think is behind this isis moves right now? is it really about publicity or about punishment or perhaps a bit of both? >> i think it's both. this is isis' game plan, to use
3:36 pm
acts of terror and atrocities to film them, to put them on the internet to send rate public -- generate publicity. they're also trying to use it to terrorize members of the anti-isis coalition. japan is not involved in the air strikes. it's not allowed to participate in them under the constitution. but that doesn't matter to isis. japan has some nationals in the country and anyone in the country who is basically participating in what appears to be the anti-isis coalition appears to be an open target for isis. >> japan is only providing humanitarian aid. of course, you condemn the horrific nature of this video. what do you make of the sophistication of it? >> well, the sophistication is interesting because the video reportedly was shot in a studio in front of a green screen and experts looked at it and said there is no wind noise, even though there appears to be wind in the studio. this suggests both to
3:37 pm
sophistication of the isis pr operation, but i also believe it represents isis' concern that if they film the video like this outside, they could be hit by air strikes. >> are the air strikes working? >> well, the president said in his state of the union address that we have stopped the isis advance. arthel, that isn't true. isis controls twice as much territory today in syria than it did when we started the air strikes in september. i think based on that and world wide acts of terror either directed by or inspired by isis, i think we can say it isn't working. >> what's the best way to stop isis? >> well, that's the question that everyone -- it's hard for americans to accept that there is some problems we can't easily fix. this isn't going to be fixed until there is a military force in iraq and syria to take on isis. the united states isn't about to do that. i think the best we can do right now is to try to contain it, but this problem the problem of
3:38 pm
terrorists capturing hostages and these terrorist videos i think will continue until isis is being rolled back militarily. i don't see that happening any time soon. >> well, i share the heartfelt sentiments and the donnelences for the people of japan for sure. fred, thank you very much. and i look forward to talk to you again. >> good to be here. absolutely. here on our country, chris christie, ted cruz, rick perry, scott walker among some of the potential presidential hopefuls pitching themselves in iowa. there is the governor of new jersey giving his speech to those in des moines at the so-called freedom summit. it's considered the start of the 2016 white house race. coming up, as mr. christie speaks, we'll take a look at who is up and who is not
