ect for 7 states hurricane force winds and up to three feet of snow expected in some areas falling at a rate of 2-4 inches an hour. 3500 flights are canceled for today and tomorrow and that number is expected to rise as the storm intensifies. maria molina is keeping track for us. let's check in with her. >> good morning heather and ainsley. it is not only a potentially historic storm system but also a life threatening storm system that will be moving through the northeast. that is something to keep in mind as we head into tonight and into the overnight hours and tomorrow. that's when we are looking at some of the worst conditions from the storm system. right now it is moving across the ohio river rale is leevalley and northeast. it is coming across parts of west virginia. it will be moving offshore and

really tins fying very rapidly that's why we have blizzard warnings through central parts of new jersey new york city boston and maine. they will be looking at between 1 and 3 feet of snowfall. it is significant across the cape and parts of new england some of the stronger winds gusting up to 70 to 80 miles per hour. we are looking at hurricane force wind gusts across the new york city area further off to the south you will be looking at significant wind as well. gusts over 50 miles an hoar. it is not only not recommended but shouldn't be doing that. snowfall totals well over 2 feet of snow. the commuter models are

also a krip peming storm. travel will likely be impossible as we head into later tonight during the overnight hours and also into tuesday across the entire northeast region along coastal areas along the i 95 corridor and places inland in southern new york state and parts of new jersey could be looking at significant snowfall on the order of 17 feet. taking a look at the records for the city of boston the heaviest snow they have ever seen from a storm system is 27.6 inches. the forecast is we could potentially break that. we could be looking at a number one snowstorm for cities along the northeast. it is already producing areas of snow across parts of ohio pennsylvania, the mid atlantic and light snow across parts of new jersey. that will be impacting new york city coming up through out this morning and it will be picking up in intensity. as we head into later today and overnight hours and into tomorrow. that's why we have more than 600 miles of blizzard warnings from
