world headquarters where it's not started yet, but it will. >> we have light snow coming down just now. you can barely see it on the camera. we have breezy conditions, and it's only, what? 6:00 a.m. eastern time. we expect conditions to continue to deteriorate, especially as we head into late tonight, during the overnight hours, and through tuesday. this will be a long event in the northeast. we have 600 miles of blizzard warning stretching from central new jersey to down east maine. they could have hurricane force wind gusts and several feet of snow. i want to share with you the historic snowfalls for boston. record snow is 27.6 inches. we could break that with this system. here's the top five snowfalls for new york city 24 preponderate 9 inches, and we would break that record. not only a record breaker but because we have so much snow strong wind whiteout conditions, travel will be impossible into the overnight hours. we're talking about a life threatening storm impacting our

area. right now, the storm system is really not that powerful. we just have light snow in parts of new york city new jersey, and also across the rest of the northeast and ohio, but it will be rapidly intensifying, and there's a look at the blizzard warnings from new jersey to maine, and they extend not just through tuesday for you, but across maine, feeling impacts through the day on wednesday. forecast snowfall has been changing a bit as computer models come out. the latest model puts the heaviest snow in long island, connecticut, up into portland, maine, but that's changing. we see models that produced more than 30 inches of snowfall here in new york city so it's going to be very tough for the crews to cover the snowfall. snowfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour and thunder snow likely. be safe out there. stay home later today into tomorrow. back to you. >> thunder snow. all right, maria, thank you very much. >> that's why you have netflix, pretty sure.

just about 24 minutes past the top of the hour. headlines, fbi looking into a new wave of bomb threats after two planes laned in seattle were evacuated in search for explosives explosives. a third flying from l.a. to orlando diverted to dallas, and no bombs were found. the fbi still searching for the suspect who threatened two atlanta bound planes on twitter. and a dramatic rescue off the coast of hawaii. this coast guard helicopter plucked three adults and an

infant out of the ocean where the plane crashed there. everyone on board, thankfully is okay. this, hours after another small plane crashed in hawaii when it ran out of field. but rather than the guard, a cruise ship came to that pilot's rescue. wow. thank you. the chaos ended in ferguson, missouri after two months of riots, but the unfortunate side effect? businesses never came back. local shops are still seeing huge declines in sales, and recently, we found out that get this, governor may have been able to stop the violence sooner. joining us now is the owner of foergson businesses affected. john joinings now, and now we found out the governor told the national guard to stand down. how does that change the way you feel for those riots and the damage your business took? >> well, it's really a difficult

situation because, you know, we were promised the guard would protect our businesses that we did not have to stay there and guard them ourselves and that the national guard was there to protect the businesses so the police could deal with the people in the situation. >> you put up your sign on your board that's changeable. you wrote epic fail, jay nixon, epic fail why? >> well, because he failed. he failed law enforcement. he failed the fire department. he failed the businesses. he failed all the citizens in the ferguson north county area. >> if initial guard steps up to protect life and property your business is not boarded up today, correct? >> that would be true, or at least make the best effort possible and we wouldn't have anything to say about it. >> do you believe the governor should be responsible to pay this back? they are going through the videos to find out who was rushing into the stores and who was not now that the justice

department is not going to try the case, and so let me ask you, what do you think the speedometer of the governor is? >> i think the responsibility of the governor is to help st. louis north county recover from the situation that is really his responsibility that nothing happened. >> what's business been like for you, john? >> anywhere from 30 to 50% down. you know, we still have our local traffic. thank goodness that local people are still, you know patronizing a lot of the businesses up in the north county area. >> can you afford to lose that much business into your business? >> not on an ongoing basis, we can't. >> how do you map to come back and the others, when you talk to them about the situations you're all in how do you plan on doing it? >> well, it's a matter of hanging in there hoping, you know, we can get the state the

>> that's right, three feet of snow already grounding thousands of flights so far. >> let's check in with maria starting to snow here and already at the airports they cancelled over 800 flights. it's going to be a screwed up day. >> reporter: yeah, it's going to be bad as the day progresses throughout today and especially into tomorrow across the entire northeast region along the i-95 corridor talking over 60 million people impacted by this storm system and over 600 miles of blizzard warnings in effect from new jersey up into parts of maine. in new york city, you mentioned the snow has started, and we have breezy conditions. we picked up a little bit snowfall over the weekend. they do an excellent job of cleaning up in new york city, and even a little bit of snow on the ground have already started to blow around. you can see blowing snow across new york city early right now, and looking at the radar, you see the storm system really starting to form and bringing in snow across areas as far west as wednesday and ohio. snow in new york city parts of new jersey right now and it's

really going to intensify and kind of bomb out, and really what that means is central pressure is dropping significantly more than 24 milibars in 24 hours. this is why we think we'll have hurricane force wind gusts along the northeast. we have blizzard warnings in effect, and several feet of snow. it is going to be cold enough throughout the duration of the event that most areas see all snow. the only area that could be seeing a mix is areas along the cape. that's where we could be looking at lower snowfall totals because of the mix as the storm system is forecasted to pass close to the area, but again, major storms potentially record breaking and also life threatening to impact the northeast throughout the day tomorrow and even early wednesday across parts of maine. let's head over to you. >> maria thank you very much. >> thanks maria. continue to send your survival tips our way. >> the worry is if it's windy, 60 70 miles per hour wisconsin at 20 degrees, there's a going to knock your lights out, trees down. all sorts of problems.

>> it is associated with that same storm system but not really intense just yet. it will be intensifying later today and that's when conditions will be rapidly deteriorating for the evening commute home tonight. if anyone is not leaving work early, it's going to get dangerous out there. and travel will be impossible as we head into the overnight hours across the northeast. there is likely going to be road closures and probably going to see roads that are impassable. it's going to be tough for those road crews to keep up with snowfall rates of two to four inches per hour with the relatively slow moving snow system. this will impact the northeast not only throughout the day today, but also as we head into tuesday and across new england. it will linger through wednesday. i want to show you some of the snowfall so far this season because it has been generally light. in philadelphia, new york city, we picked up a couple of inches about ten inches in the city of boston. but that will all be changing. we're talking feet of snow. take a look at the current temperatures.

perseverance and this is something that i see -- that seems to be this theme through the navy seals and what they give for us every day. these are the toughest warriors that we have in america and the most compassionate men that i've ever known and that's the same thing with chris kyle. the love and the support that i felt from him, mark often tried to explain to me the brotherhood and i couldn't quite get it. i knew that they fought together, they sacrificed, they did a lot together. and the week that mark died, we had five of them in our home and i saw they loved mark just as much as we did and they were hurting just as much as we were. the light bulb went on and i realized yes, those really were mark's brothers and i got to see that in a reverse with chris kyle and the love that i felt back from him and so many of other mark's teammates, it really was like a mother-son relationship. i've never experienced anything like it in my life. i miss both of these young men

but he's well received here in the des moines register, which is the front page news. how every candidate did. crisis did okay. the big winner according to the folks here, is senator ted cruz, who they say blew it out of the water this weekend. >> i also heard good things about scott walker. >> gaining momentum? >> yeah. scott walker is definitely getting a lot of applause for his presentation. remember, cruz and walker if you saw this, they were kind of walking around the stage, no notes, no teleprompter, and giving this speech. walker was first introduction for a lot of iowans in the summit and they said they give him a thumbs up here. >> somebody who is not graded on the front page of the des moines register is mitt romney and jeb bush because they didn't show up. any idea why? >> don't know why. jeb bush said there was a scheduling conflict. i don't think mitt romney considered it. but that is a big part of this.

deception when police asked him and questioned him about the whereabouts of the missing georgia grandparents. that couple disaened on thursday after leaving their marietta, georgia house, traveling 200 miles away to go and meet a craigslist seller about buying bud's dream car, which is a 1966 ford mustang. police say it was towns who called mr. runyon about that car right before the couple vanished. and now the sheriff leading this investigation says they are desperate to talk to him. >> we've been working through the family hoping to get mr. towns to surrender himself. my last understanding was there was some communication between our suspect and his family. we're hopeful that this is going to develop into his surrender. >> this morning the search for the runyons is expanding with officials scouring the area for any signs of this couple. if you know anything, please call the telfair sheriff's office or 911.

shocking new reports claiming convicted al-qaeda terrorist released from a super max prison was part of a proposed deal to free an american couple who happened to be jailed in qatar. our next guest who worked on that case says he knows for a fact the idea of a swap was floated to the ambassador to qatar at the time. and we're fortunate to have richard grenell. this broke in the daily beast but this was was not news to you. tell us about it. >> well, we've seen a lot of prisoner swaps floated from other countries to the united states. we've actually seen the state department negotiate on some. in this instance, we learned a long time ago that during meetings on the couple with the state department, u.s. ambassador at the time, susan ziadi, was in her office talking to some qataris when the qataris

floated the idea of a prisoner swap specifically mentioning al mari. what's interesting, this prisoner in the united states at the time has the exact same last name as the qatari attorney general. so the individual that was floating the name to u.s. ambassador susan. >> iadi was a close confidante of the attorney general. so we knew that the qataris wanted al mari and floating this idea. what we have now is the state department is going on the record to say, we did not negotiate for al mari in that case. what we're trying to say is, look, i don't know if the state department negotiated. that's not the accusation. the accusation is that the qataris and others are seeing this slippery slope and they're asking for prisoner swaps. they see the united states and specifically the state department -- as willing to talk

about prisoner swaps, so they offered this. on a clear cut case with matt and grace, they were accused by the qatari government of something they flatly did not do, the evidence pointed to that. the idea that there would be a prisoner exchange for them is offensive and i'm glad to see that the state department say unequivocally, we did not negotiate. but they're also dancing around the fact that this was floated to them and that they created -- they themselves created a slippery slope. after all, the president of the united states thanked the emir of qatar during the bergdahl. >> that's a great point. and i had forgotten that. but rick they're both out now and there was the couple that wanted to make sure they were not part of this swap because they don't feel that they were legitimate prisoners. however, do you know of our response to this? was our response open to this because it seems to have created a swap apoluzza after as we

>> so how long will it last and how low will it go? what's really going on behind the scenes? maria bartiromo joins us. good morning. >> good morning. >> is it as simple as supply and demand? >> absolutely. there is a lot of supply. you have america and the shale revolution. you've got libya with a civil war producing oil. you've got the iraqis producing oil, the saudis will not give up market share. all this oil has contributed to the decline in the price. obviously that's a lot of supply. and there is the demand side of the story and things are weakening around the world. europe is weak. china has slowed down from the peak levels. and as a result, there is just lower demand. so you're not seeing the kind of buying. >> miles per gallon has gone up, too. that adds to it. one of the saudi's goals to destroy our shale industry? because a lot are hurting. >> i think that's part of the issue. however, i don't think they would go to this extent to push prices lower because it actually is costing them a lot of money. >> it's backfiring if they are. >> exactly right. however, they will not give up on market share.

they will not give in not even one or two million barrels a at this to actually stop producing, not put as much oil on the market so prices go up. why? because they feel like another opec or nonopec country will jump in and take that market share. what they will do is they're going to just tolerate $50 or below oil for as long as they can and watch shale companies go out of business. that's what you want to watch in terms of the negative implications for america. this has been the growth story of america. >> how do isis and iran play into this? >> obviously isis is trying to sell oil on the black market. sell it for cheap prices and they're doing it. and they've got their customers. we're trying to figure out who are the bad actors in the world. when is buying that oil from isis exactly? that's been the speculation. but at this point, we can't do anything to stop that black oil. so that's just more oil from the bad actors on the market. there is no doubt that's a except. >> we're talking about the producers of oil. in the meantime for the rest of us yea. >> yeah. it's a positive. you know what i say, yea. we've been talking about the positive implications for a long

two california firefighters are being hailed as heros this morning for their incredible efforts at 30,000 feet to save a guy's life. they were flying to fema training in texas when a passenger on the airplane apparently was having a heart attack. here to tell us what happened next are those two heros alex

van and donovan george. they're both with the original county fire authority, also with them are their trained rescue dogs ollie and winnie. guys and dogs, good morning to you. >> good morning. how you doing today? >> okay. so alex, i understand you had been to the restroom and you were returning to your seat. there was a commotion and what happened? >> as soon as i walked into the bathroom, i could hear something going on outside the door and the pilot was saying in an announce. , return to your seats. so i opened the door and about three teet in front of me there was a gentleman standing and i could tell he was in distress. he looked extremely pale. i approached him asked him can you hear me? are you okay? and when i touched him, i noticed he was extremely cool and he was sweating profusely. and then he collapsed in my arms. >> exactly. and then you realize this guy is

in great distress. you asked the air team for the advance medical kit from the crew. what is that? >> on all the aircraft, they have oxygen. they have an aed an automatic external defibrillator and a medical kit with the captain for doctors, paramedics and nurses. >> so alex, that's what you were doing. donovan, you were in another part of the plane. you were with the dogs at the time. what did you do? >> i looked down the aisle and i noticed that alex was down at the other end of the plane with an elderly gentleman on the floor. the flight attendant made a call for anyone that was a doctor or paramedic or physician to go ahead and press the flight attendant button and i heard about ten of those go off. at that time i put the dogs in a down space so they could stay at their location and went to the back to see what was going on with the gentleman and alex. >> so you just told the dogs

stay and gave them the stay command and they did it? >> yeah. these are highly trained canines and they stayed the whole time. i remember looking up a time or two from the end of the aisle and they were down there curious what we were doing. but they were definitely not breaking from the stay command. >> awesome. so alex, you were able to give the guy an i.v. and you had the defibrillator there. then what happened? >> actually when he collapsed in my arms i laid him onto the floor and immediately started cpr 'cause i noticed that when i did a pulse check, he didn't have a pulse and he wasn't breathing. so i immediately started cpr. then that's when donovan came back. after i got a pulse back, we still hooked him up to the external defibrillator and then that's when donovan came back and he was the one that started the i.v. >> i got you. donovan, how is the guy today? do we know? >> the great part about the end of that call, because it was a

call at 30,000 feet up in the air, was we got the patient back, he had stable vital signs throughout. his blood pressure respiratory rate. he was talking just like you and i are talking right now. we were able to get some information so he can call his wife when he was on the way to the hospital. i haven't gotten any follow-up. i know when he left our care, he was in a lot better condition. >> you guys were in the right place at the right time. you say that the crew was unbelievable. they helped you out. when you asked the captain, can you please land this plane? he did just that. >> he did. it was remarkable. kudos to the united crew. from matt and julie, they were phenomenal. they knew where the equipment was. they helped us. the captain, i had to tell him, i declared an emergency and we need to land and he said done. >> done indeed. donovan and alex, we got a
