hope to see you here next week. millions of americans to the midwest to new england are again in the path of a powerful winter storm. hello, everyone welcome to america's news headquarters. well, the storm already pummelling the midwest with blizzard like conditions and could leave behind more than a foot of snow, or more, in the midwest. now, it's expected to get bad right around game time. illinois state police telling anyone on the road to be extremely cautious. tracking the storm live in the weather center, and they really do need to be careful, right? >> especially across the midwest, which is where the

storm is right now. chicago's o'hare airport already reporting close to 9 inches of snow. in some cases an inch and a half a an hour. you can see where the heavy snow is spreading across iowa indiana, michigan, ohio, in towards pennsylvania. and, again, we're talking about over a foot in a lot of these areas as we get into the overnight. there's chicago an additional 10 inches here. this is going to be a big snowstorm for them as well as in detroit. north of cleveland and buffalo. so, again, as the afternoon progresses as we get into the super bowl time, people are urged to stay off the roads, especially around the chicago area. where we have blizzard conditions happening right now with winds in excess of 30, 40 miles per hour. this blizzard warning in effect until midnight tonight. people are urged to stay off the roadways, already seeing some of the interstates being shut down. people do not need to be traveling right now. and then the storm is going to move into the northeast. d.c., philadelphia mainly a rain event. however, right around the new york city area we could see

mixture of rain, sleet and snow. so that's going to be concern especially for -- into the rush hour tomorrow morning. you can see, there's that freezing rain line, north of the city. we're going to get the jackpot snow totals, again, for nukdew england, some cases, 18 inches plus. that's the concern, of course. a lot of these areas received over 2 feet of snow with more snow on the way monday tuesday. back to you. >> and more possible travel nightmares. okay, thank you so much. >> okay. >> jordan reaffirming its commitment to u.s.-led coalition air strikes against isis. the country is also offering to meet an isis demand to exchange a convicted al qaeda terrorist in return for a captured pilot. however, the terrorists have not made it clear whether they're willing to make a trade or simply spare the life of the pilot. they have also not given any proof of life. the renewed negotiation attempts come after the terror group released its latest video

unattainable objective. >> the outgoing secretary of defense chuck hagel is floating the idea now and sending troops to the region to help improve the accuracy of air strikes. and republican senator lindsey graham going further. pitching 10,000 american troops on the ground in iraq and in syria. something that democratic lawmakers are voicing strong opposition to already. >> invasionry force of 10,000 americans. to plunge them into the chaos of syria at this point would be a serious mistake in my view. let's build this coalition of indigenous efforts in the region to bring stability. >> and there's continued talk this weekend about the administration's refusal to characterize the enemy in isis-controlled territory as islamic militants. the white house keeps insisting that not all terrorists are muslims. that's not a fair characterization. senator ayotte thinks it's time for the white house to cut it

out with the political correctness. >> thank you very much. meanwhile, nigeria's military claiming it has killed hundreds of fighters from boko haram after the terror group attacked one of the country's largest cities. it happened in the northeast part of nigeria. extremists moved in on the city from four sides. they forced people there out of their homes before the military says it drove them out. this attack comes just weeks after a terrorist reportedly strapped a bomb to a young girl. and set it off in a crowded marketplace. egypt releasing an imprisoned foreign reporter. and an australian journalist who works for vzfnal-jazeera english. he and two other journalists were arrested in 2013. the government unhappy with their coverage of the bloody crackdown on islamist protesters

after the overthrow of mohammed morsi and he was sentenced to prison on terrorism-related charges. the other two remain in prison. we have to be prepared to put boots on the ground if that's what it takes because, i think -- >> boots on the ground in syria? >> i don't think that's an immediate plan but -- >> you wouldn't rule that out? >> i wouldn't rule anything out. >> that's scott walker the front runner in a new poll out of iowa. exactly one year until the caucus is there. here it is the "des moines register" poll puts walker in a tight match-up ahead of kentucky senator rand paul former arkansas governor, mike huckabee, dr. ben carson and former florida governor jeb bush. on the democratic side, you already know hillary clinton polling well ahead of any other potential democratic candidate.

katelyn huey burns is a reporter and joins me now. 9[x hey, good to see you. >> hi, good to see you, too. >> let's start here. who amongst the potential gop candidates could jump ahead of walker in this poll? >> well, rand paul is certainly proceeding well in the polls. it's really fascinating to look at the poll and look how much walker has grown in the past couple of days. he gave a rousing speech in iowa last weekend and showed he could play there. jeb bush is going to be making a play in iowa too. he's been contacting people there. he just hired romney's former aide who helped -- ran the campaign in iowa for him and romney almost won iowa last time. so i think i would look)2u at those three according to this poll. >> would you say at this point katelyn, the sound bites is it about selling the american people? or is it more about vying for party support to get the nomination? >> right. two different things. first, thçt2y

in the primary. they don't want to get out there too much, that opens them up to a lot of attacks and need to focus on building support and name recognition. but at the same time, they also know pretty much who they're running against next year in the election. hillary clinton seems poised to win the nomination. on one hand they're auditioning for the nomination on the other hand they're auditioning to take on hillary clinton in 2016. >> let's see what mike huckabee had to say on cnn. >> if i were at the top of the poll, i would tell you this is very significant. the fact i'm not, i'm going to tell you, well, it's not as important as it seems to be. dana you know it as well as anybody in america. but it's an interesting thing to see where iowa is moving at this point. >> quickly before we go, which republican, potential candidate has the best chance to beat hillary clinton? >> i think at this point there's two people i'm really looking at. jeb bush because of the connections he has and the name

been brought here to make it almost impossible to somehow get through the perimeter. i've never seen security quite like this. and how difficult it is actually, to get inside. you've got 4,000 private security personnel, about 3,000 phoenix police, you have those pulled off the border about 100 custom agents have been pulled into this region all to keep everybody safe. 65,000 fans and two complete teams. guess what, when it comes to security they've even taken more precaution. they've asked the bears' equipment managers to come in as a neutral observer to hold both teams' footballs. instead of 12, they'll have 54 each because they're valuable, for charities. they'll have a play and toss them out. so now the bears are brought into the super bowl because they are supposed to be impartial through and through. >> yeah well, you know i joke about katy perry's outfit, by the way, it is true, that's how serious they are with the

security stuff. do you know about the the security measures they're putting in place on her costume? what's that all about, brian? >> well, i'm personally supposed to watch her costume. i said leave it there, . and all, i'll be running out. >> she's got a really high bar. as you know, last time, bruno mars was sensational at halftime. it was the highest rated halftime ever. now she'll be joined by lenny kravitz and she says a surprise guest. i did speak to some of the local high schools that have been rehearsing with her. and she's been working hard, great attitude, 12 minutes, a whole bunch of songs. and they say she's a little bit nervous about the whole event. it's something about 100 million people watching youd0bj and knowing what bruno mars did last time. are you ready for a breaking story? >> go for it. >> so i went to my seat for you guys and katy perry's people

the house budget committee tom price reacting to today's walkout by the nation's oil workers. it is their largest strike since 1980. brenda butner is here. always good to see you. >> great to see you, as well. >> let's get to it. why are they striking? back in '80, it lasted three months. >> no, it's been a quarter century, though, since they've had this level of a strike. they're striking for more pay, for more safety conditions, more jobs, basically. and they're at an impasse. so this, this really could mean a big deal to the energy industry. because if everybody goes on strike, all 30,000 workers that affects 2/3 of the u.s. refinery capacity. so that's -- that's very significant. >> that is significant. and, of course, meanwhile, we're talking about oil brings us to the gas prices, which they're down. they've been down. >> they sure have. >> quite a bit of a stretch there. so are people taking that money

that they're saving at the pump and spending it and putting it back into the economy? >> no. and that's what everybody expected is that this windfall would be spent by, you know, going back into the economy and different types of industries. half of all people are basically saving it. another 25% are paying off debt. so the great recession 2008 is still haunting many, many people. we're hoping that over a couple more months of low gas prigss prices, if gas prices stay -- oil prices stay at $50 a barrel each household could save $1,350 a year with these kind of gas prices. so at that point, they might open up their purses. >> you can't blame them. you take care of the deficit first. >> they could teach the government a thing or two. >> and there you go. that's why brenda is very smart and you can catch brenda by the way, on bulls and bears every saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. eastern right here on the fox news channel.

broken arm. prosecutors have even asked the judge not to say why he releases a prospective juror so other folks won't get any ideas. joining us now to discuss this unpress dentaled trial is sue an constantine. good to see you. >> thank you for having me. >> we know that jury selection is touchily a tedious process. why is this trial especially complicated? >> first of all, we have to really look at this entire city has been uproared with this case. one in 50 people have been summoned for this trial. everyone has been affected by it. 9,000 people have been summoned to possibly serve on this jury. one of 12 people will be chosen on this jury. this will be a tough case because it has been infiltrating their newspapers and their media day after day for months and months. >> when they get down to it, susan, who makes a good juror for the prosecution? >> first of all in the

prosecution, they always want authoritarian jurors those who can make an executive decision could be managers supervisors, those that are in a position to hire and fire. those are generally really good jurors for the prosecution. now, for the defense it's the opposite. we're looking maybe salespeople people that might have some information about or experience with mental illness. those are more egalitarian. those type of people tends to be more sensitive, especially when it comes to mental healthish news we talked about getting out of the jury duchlt how do you get out of being selected? what does it take for real? >> really what it is that you earnestly and truly have a medical issue. you know there's people we've heard that walk in with a broken arm, can be limping my back hurts, i can't sit that lochlkt but that's really, you know -- a bad back is not going to get you off jury duty. let's say you are a single parent mom. you are the sole provider.

you have an elderly person that you are taking care of atq you have serious medical issues and you have to take medication that really could numb you to be able to concentrate. there is multiple reasons why, but it really has to be substantiated usually by a doctor and the scrutiny of the judge to decide whether the person is excused or not. >> for the record most of the jurors in our great country, they are very serious about their job and they take it very seriously because it is a very important duty to take on. now n this case susan before i let you go, that these guys might have to decide on the death penalty for holmes. what qualifies someone to be able to do that. >> then death penalty phase once they have passed into the first and second phase and go into the death penalty, that's individual voir dire. that's deeply scrutinizing.
