solidarity with the family of their murdered pilot by isis. >> fighter jets launching airstrikes on isis targets in syria. >> president obama is expected to step up our assault finally against the militants and ask congress to authorize military force. leland vittert details us on that from our d.c. bureau. >> reporter: good morning. there is broad and bipartisan agreement that more needs to be done against isis, but the how, when and paying for it are still to be worked out on capitol hill. authorization for the current u.s. military action against isis goes back to the bush era and the post-9/11 congressional authorization for the use of force against terrorists. while president obama has long maintained he has the authority for various military operations right now, congressional stamp of approval could give him and his generals far more flexibility. some republicans are calling for ground troops.

some democrats talked about wanting clear deadlines and ways to pay for it. >> how can he not have asked congress to support him? it's exactly what a president would want is congressional approval the way that has been done in all the conflicts of the last quarter century. eventually he will but his reluctance is simply staggering. >> the jordanians haven't waited for authorization or anything like that. they have done things rather quickly in light of isis burning their pilot alive. the kingdom launched a wide scale attack against isis targets. 20 jordanian jets flew a mission which included heavy support for the united states. in a new twist to the p.r. war, jordan released a slickly produced video about the bombing raids with music and people writing messages about the bombs to be used. many of those messages centered around paying honor to the pilot who was

killed. >> we did find out there were strikes going on yesterday. we couldn't confirm it. that was iraqi tv. by the end of the show we found out strikes were underway and they were confirmed throughout the day. how shocked were you about the president's remarks yesterday at that prayer breakfast equating the crusades in the year 1095 to what we're experiencing today and witnessing with isis and their brutality? >> you want to talk about striking? watch. >> you missed it? watch it. >> unless we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the crusades and inquisition people committed terrible deeds in the name of christ. in our home country slavery and jim crow all too often was justified in the name of christ. >> you know what, mr. president? slavery ended here in 1865.

it is still going on in the muslim world. essentially what he's saying is this, who started the crusades? well, the catholic church did. so he's saying the catholic church was the isis of its time. so try telling that to the pope who is going to visit washington d.c. >> a little problem with moral equivalency under the circumstances here. it is not necessary. christians had nothing to do with what happened. christians had nothing to do with a man being burned alive in a cage we saw on wednesday that took place last month. nothing to do it. yet he named them in both the name of christ our savior, three times talked about christians but couldn't call radical islam for what it was, couldn't name the person behind the match. this is propaganda for the terrorists. watch. >> osama bin laden when he issued his fatwa -- when

congress. the principal under secretary for defense policy was sitting right there and said eric holder gave the approval to release them because we were worried about bowe bergdahl. well senator tom cotton had had it up to here and he said this. >> he's a veteran. >> -- guantanamo bay or engaging in terrorism or anti-american assignment. [inaudible] because they only engage in that kind of recidivism overcrazy. let's look at the -- overseas. how many detainees were in guantanamo in 2001? >> zero. >> what about in 1998 when they bombed our embassies? >> the facility was not open until 1992? >> same answer. >> 1983 when hezbollah bombed our embassy and

marine barracks in lebanon? the answer is zero. islamic terrorists don't need an excuse to attack the united states. they don't attack us for what we do. they attack us for who we are. it is not a secure decision. is it a political decision based on promise the president made on his campaign? to say it is a secure decision based on propaganda value our enemies get from it is a pretext to justify a political decision. in my opinion, the only problem at guantanamo bay is there are too many empty beds and cells there right now. we should be sending more terrorists there for further interrogation to keep this country safe. as far as i'm concerned every last one of them can rot in hell. but as long as they don't do that and they can rot in guantanamo bay. >> how great was that? >> a veteran who served our country. that hopefully will be taken as the national strategy will be rolled out by the administration. maybe they'll hear that. >> he called them on it. >> you can't touch him

because of what he's done, what he's seen and what he's witnessed and now he just won that senate seat. my hope is that we see more releases. they are talking about taking some of the guys they can't release and sending them to summit prisons. >> great. nine minutes after the hour. we've got breaking news. >> let's start with a fox news alert. twin engine failure, that is what investigators believe caused that deadly plane crash in taiwan. flight data is showing the first engine stopped working 37 seconds after the plane took off. the pilots then turned the other engine off in an attempt to restart them both. but it was too late. seconds later that plane carrying 58 people plunged into the river in taipei and this goes along with one survivor's claims saying the engine didn't sound right after taking off. at least 35 people are dead, 8 of them on that plane are still missing. new images showing devastation from the train crash that left six people dead in new york. look at this.

you can see inside, the burned out car windows completely melted. federal investigators say the engineer slammed on the emergency brakes and was blowing the horn at least twice before that train hit the s.u.v. the mother of three behind the wheel of the s.u.v. had at least 39 seconds to avoid that collision. witnesses describing the horrific scene in the new 911 calls. >> i have a car that was struck by a train. the car is on fire. there are people in the car. >> one car just exploded. people are jumping out of the train. >> ellen brody's funeral is set for today. investigators will look at her cell phone records to see if she was distracted. >> the feds say they know who might be behind the insurance company anthem's hacker. 80 million social security records, birthdays and

e-mail addresses were compromised. chinese officials are not commenting. what started as a shoplifting case ended up as an act of kindness. a police officer was called to the kroger grocery store because a man was accused of stealing baby formula. the officer learned he had fallen on hard times and wanted to feed his child. that is when the officer bought him the formula and let him walk free. >> me taking him to court wouldn't have done good for him. he's already short on money, can't afford formula. me making him appear in court, he's still not going to have food for that baby. >> the officer says he's also a father and really felt for that man who was struggling. those are your headlines. i wish we had his name and number. i would love to help out a little bit. >> maybe we'll pursue that. we have a lot of wrowrses wrowrses -- we have a lot of resources here.

bishop e.w. jackson and the founder of stand joins us now. what place do christianity and christ have in that equation yesterday at the national prayer breakfast? >> elisabeth, i have a message for the president, with all due respect to him and for the office, mr. president, if you don't want to give terrorists a recruitment tool, instead of closing guantanamo bay, frankly, sir you ought to close your mouth because you just gave them a gigantic propaganda tool. they called us crusaders and you confirmed it. mr. president, we're not on a high horse. what we are is on high alert. the american people would like for once to know that you're willing to defend christianity and defend america instead of defend islam. >> bishop you served in the marine corps. you're a veteran. when you talk about propaganda the only thing propaganda does now is help recruit for isis and is then then the enemy. for our veterans and military personnel how much more danger do those words

put our service members in? >> i think he's given them a gigantic recruitment tool. he's told them, once again he's apologized for america. he's conjured up the image of crusaders and justified exactly what osama bin laden was saying that we are encroaching on them. i would remind the president that the crusades began in 1096 in response to islamic aggression and the fact they conquered the holy land and oppressing eastern christians and there was a response to that. if the president is going to cite that as an example, he ought to get his history complete. >> you did something the president won't do. you used the word islamic. not only did the president not protect christians and really go after them by invoking the name of christ yesterday some would say but he continued on the path of not calling the enemy what it is, not saying radical islam. don't you believe in not saying that he's actually protecting radical islam by not calling it out?

time for news by the numbers on this friday. first, 20 cents. that's how much gas prices jumped overnight, according to a triple a survey the national average is now $2.16 a gallon. still better than it was. next 64 cents, according to a new pew survey, that's how many reporters believe the obama administration is

they did this survey and talked about it in an advertising journal. they said you've got the stuff from the c.d.c. and some other organization, all official. but many people trusted the comments from anonymous people they did not know who were fake than the c.d.c. >> three out of four people go on-line to get their health information. that is where the problem start. i think it is because parents are very nervous and worried about their children and they see a change of behavior and they don't want to hear you're imagining things. i think as physicians we first have to understand that if this problem exists maybe we're not doing a good enough job taking people seriously. we can't be dogmatic. we have to hear people's fears and respond. whether it is fear of measles, mere of vaccines. if people go to the internet they are not going to find the answer. it is too contradictory the wild west. >> what do we need to know about vaccines? >> i think vaccines are predominantly safe and i

think they've been for great public health good. i think complications are very rare. side effects are very rare but i don't think they're nonexistent. that's what i mean when i say i have to listen to a parent. if a parent thinks there's been a vaccine side effect, i can't dismiss it. in the vast majority of case vaccines have done good. the m. mment -- the m.m.r. vaccine has been good. the country of japan uses just the miewstles -- just the measles and rubella vaccine. >> what is the internet? it is a way of talking to other people to get feedback, the thing you used to do in the super market or sporting event you now do on-line. you point owpt things every family should keep in mind. one, get a pediatrician you

welcome back. we have quick headlines for you. the tax edition. a new report reveals the i.r.s. has not only rehired hundreds of problem employees, it also seized over $250 billion over a decade from 2,500 bank accounts without any proof of criminal wrongdoing. tax returns from turbo tax not allowed in minnesota. officials worried about potential fraud after at least two taxpayers logged into their accounts and found their returns had already been filed. finally the i.r.s. stacking tom brady. the patriots quarterback owes the government more than $60,000 for winning the super bowl. he's even got to pay a tax to give away his m.v.p. gift, the truck that he wants to give to malcolm butler. the price for being a champ. >> a teenage girl frantically calls 911 for help after her father lies dying on the road after he

>> i would imagine you would say it's not the way i would do it, but still you can't fire him? >> exactly. set aside how sad this particular case is for a minute, what is the job of a 911 operator? if you think about an eight-hour shift half of those calls are going to be my cat's in a tree. the other half is going to be my wife won't give me the remote, and they have to cull information on the fly as fast as possible to get help. that is their job get help where it's needed most. so what if they don't say please and thank you. if the air traffic controllers diverts a flight from crashing do we say thank you very much for taking a right. >> this is a business where there's always somebody crying or screaming or being loud or whining. the job description, you've got to be able to take that. >> but you're not a therapist. if you read the transcript, he's trying to find out where this accident

occurred. he's trying to find that out. if he says stop whining or it's going to be okay who cares. get the info. >> there's a better way to do that. he could have said okay, ma'am, calm down it's going to be okay. not stop whining which then upset her even more and caused a delay for finding out where the location is. i think he may even have some liability for the delay in getting the response here. >> here's what the county fire department captain says how the dispatcher proceeded to do that doesn't meet our expectations. that is not how they are expected to be treated when calling 911 in an emergency like that. >> we have examples of other 911 dispatcher problems. remember a cleveland dispatcher was reprimanded for hanging up on amanda berry, one of the three girls kept in that house of horrors. columbus ohio, dispatcher not reprimanded for telling a sexual assault victim to quit crying. you say fire. you're saying that the

person should be reprimanded, maybe sent to sensitivity training but they should stay on the job? >> they're not supposed to be psychiatrists. if they get help to where it's supposed to be regardless of how that happens, he should not lose his job. should he be trained a little bit better, especially when you're dealing with a kid on the other end of the phone that was the other special concern, i get that. but they've got a rough job, steve. they have a rough job. >> but they're trained initially and they have to be sensitive. it is not a matter of he should know better. if he didn't get it from the beginning, he shouldn't be in that field of work. >> we'd like to know what you think in tv land. e-mail us, facebook us or tweet us. still ahead the president still will not call out islamic extremism for what it is but one member of congress will. she's an arm vet and a democrat. she joins us live.

ideology. why does the obama administration refuse to label them as a war on radical islam? hawaii congresswoman joins us now, a democrat says the president is making a big mistake. she's also a u.s. army veteran who served two tours of combat in the middle east. congresswoman, welcome back. first off, your thought on the president's tact when it comes to labeling our enemy? >> first of all, i think it's a very basic principle and a very basic concept that in order to defeat your enemy, you must first define them. you first have to understand who they are what motivates them what their tactics are in order to come up with an effective strategy to defeat them, which is why it's so essential to identify, as you mentioned, when you look at 99% of the terrorist attacks that have been conducted around the world over the last 15 years, there is one element that's in common that they've all been fueled by and motivated by and conducted by these radical islamic extremists. in order to defeat that threat we have to identify it and then

come up with an effective strategy then to defeat it and get rid of it. >> it's interesting, up until yesterday, the president says i don't want to make this a religious war. that's why i don't want to bring this up. i don't want to put christians against muslims. however, the president yesterday brought up the fact that hey christians, get off your high horse. you were pretty bad during the crusades in 1090. is that relevant? >> it's not relevant. that's when i was listening to his speech, that was the first thing that came to mind is, what happened in the past, happened in the past. we can learn from those lessons but what we have to focus on and what our commander in chief should be focusing on is exactly the threat that is facing the american people today. as commander in chief your number one job is keeping the american people safe and protecting the freedoms that make our country strong. right now the reality is, again, when you look at the threats that exist not only to the american people, but to people around the world, they are being fueled by and motivated by this radical islamic ideology and the

only way to defeat this threat is in a two-pronged approach both militarily, but it also has to be defeated ideal logically. >> it's got to be more than one prong. there is 30,000 of them that need to be stopped. tom cotton is the latest cookie senator, also served in congress and also served overseas in the military. this is what he said about closing gitmo. he believes it's irresponsible to let them go while we're still at war. listen. >> only problem with guantanamo bay is there are too many empty beds and cells there right now. we should be sending more terrorists there for further interrogation to keep this country safe. >> do you agree, congresswoman? >> i was one of the few democrats in the house and on the armed services committee who spoke out very strongly against the five taliban prisoners who were released because they essentially were released in exchange for beau bergdahl because of this very reason. when we look at those five, we know that there is at least one

i've been trying all morning how to put it in a couple sentences. mila kunis' character is an ordinary young woman who realizes her true destiny that she's royalty and heir to earth. and channing tatum is half man half wolf. the movie absolutely does not organically explain the plot line ha so far. i found myself just baffled by how terrible the script was. it was laughable at times. there are some good visuals from a production standpoint as well as the costumes. but overall, this movie really is a disappointing film. i gave it two out of five. i say skip it. rent it at home if you want to see it. overall, the performances are terrible. the script is terrible. the action is not memorable. >> would you name it "jupiter descending"? >> that's something to go for, yes. it's very, very bad. >> did you talk to some of the stars? >> we want to talk about that.

>> "seventh son"? >> yes. this is a movie that again another horrible film. very disappointing in the sense of it was shot in 2012. now it's finally coming out in 2015. it's a film that basically deals with a young apprentice who joins forces with jeff bridges to take down evil. it's the worst 3d i've seen in a long time. if i moved a little to the left or right, the screen became blurry. that's how bad the 3d conversion was. overall this film it feels like watching an snl parody of what a movie should be. i gave it 1 1/2 out of five. when i walked in the room to interview the stars, i didn't see them. i saw the characters they played in "the big lebowski." so i had to ask them, mom and the dude what if they dropped in the world of seventh son, what would they do? n that's a good idea. >> bring us back. >> i know.

hundreds of years of muslim aggression and oppression that preceded them. or look at the inquisition. that was another dark chapter in the history of the church. and yet in the 450 years of the inquisition, you had about 2200 people who were killed. that's about five a year. more people were killed in a single day by muslim terrorists on 9-11 than in the entire inquisition put together. and that is why this equivalent doesn't hold up. >> also, doctor, the crusades were 1,000 years ago. isis is burning up people today and crucifying kids over in the middle east today. >> yes. that's exactly right. and look, we need to say something that is politically incorrect, but is absolutely true. >> go ahead. >> and that is -- okay. that is when these christian nut jobs do things that are wrong and violent, they are acting in opposition to their faith.
