wish the president would stop lecturing us with bad historical facts. whatever justification may have been given for slavery by so-called christians it was because so many christians objected to the institution from the very beginning. and so people conjured up these esoteric ideas about why it was okay. but it was christians who were constantly objecting to the institution of slavery so he gets that wrong. he didn't go to cairo and give that speech and lecture the egyptians about enslaving jews 3,000 it years ago but he seems to have no problem whatsoever continually trying to raise negative issues about our own country. >> i was struck by his use of the crusades as an example. considering this al qaeda and isis and islamic extremists across the globe constantly refer to the west as quote crusaders. wafers it helpful for the president, do you think, to use that term? >> once again he fails to bring up relevant facts. the crusades began as

response to islamic aggression. but he didn't talk about that he didn't talk about the persecution of eastern christians during the time that the crusades were started and the attempt to rescue them. so, once again, this president likes to get on his high horse and lecture the rest of the country about how bad we are. i wish that he would have some negative harsh things to say to islamic terrorists about the evil things that they are doing. >> yes, i suspect he doesn't know anything about the crusades. what should he have said given his platform at the national prayer breakfast? what would you have liked to have heard him say? >> first of all, he needs to call it islamic terror and he needs to say it's evil. and we must all, across the world, join together and fight it. he needs to say to muslims, i have muslims in my family i love them, they are wonderful people. he needs to say you need to speak up and stand against this evil with us. he needs to tell the country that we're going to come together across racial and cultural lines instead of

"american sniper" murder trial. veterans group says chris kyle's accused killer may not have ptsd. he was never in combat when he served one tour in iraq. he never left the base. chris kyle's widow said in a recent interview that ptsd does not cause someone to snap and shoot two men. listen. >> i understand the media reporting that because i think that's what they would like everybody to believe. it's almost like an excuse to hang the murders on. but it was a double homicide. >> so could this report be a game changer for the trial? joining us now for legal debate is eric guster and trial attorney lisa. nice to see both of you this morning. first of all, can ralph get a fair trial. that is what the defense is worried about that is he not going to be able to go anywhere in this country and get a fair trial. >> it's going to be difficult. when you have someone killed and on hero status for every news outlet for everybody talking about it extremely difficult. the jury's to give quote, justice for that person's

murder. so with this man being accused of -- well, he did shoot him, but the question is did ptsd deal with it, did ptsd cause it and does he have the mental capacity to do it. >> on the jury selection issue, i mean, if you are the defense for this guy what in the world do you do? is there a place you can go and try to find an impartial jury? >> you have to take the jury as you find them, right? they are interviewing 800 jurors on stand by and the whole issue here about the prejudice. when you want to change your venue. you have to prove actual prejudice. i don't know where the actual prejudice is. like you said. it's been aired all over america. so does he get a fair trial anywhere in the country? >> it would difficult anywhere in the country this movie is number one box office thriller. everyone is watching it everyone is talking about it. so the question does not to move the trial. it -- the dates should be delayed, perhaps, in order to give the movie some time to fizzle out. that way the popularity is

not on the top of the conscious of all the people who are involved. >> bradley cooper. you know, academy award nominee. this is, of course, obviously one of the number one war movies of all time. let's talk about the ptsd movie. bombshell report from this veterans group this week. here is a facebook post from the war fighter foundation eddy ralph after they did all this research about him. interviewing a number of marines on tour they said. this eddy ralph served one tour in iraq in 2007 at ballad air base the second largest installation in iraq with no significant events no combat experience. this has nothing to do with ptsd. what do you think about that? will ptsd be thrown out of trial? >> no. and this is a veterans group. of course they want justice for their hero. and they are not the doctor they are not the psychologist who are going to testify not caused by someone in combat. it could be be a war zone and other triggers that may

have caused it and not just someone in combat. >> will this be used as an excuse. his widow said this is not an excuse of killing two people. >> not an excuse. you have to look at ptsd. you do need to have a traumatic event that you experienced or that you believed somebody else was experiencing. without combat and he on balad air base, they have a mcdonald's subway. he never left the air base. ptsd, if this is the only basis to the insanity defense. it might be a very difficult trial. they are difficult cases to begin with but this could be very difficult. and, also the research that comes out of ptsd, people that suffer from this, they are not homicidal. they are suicidal. and this was a case where two men, chris kyle shot in the back and the back of the head. this person has to prove that he couldn't form the specific intent, that he didn't know right from wrong at the time of the criminal act and that he was in the

cents to $2.32 in just one night. in central ohio saw their prices go up 22 cents to 2.26 cents a gallon. plus the national average has gone up over 10 cents in just one week. >> would so why the steady increase in gas prices all of a sudden? should would he be concerned about it? >> let's ask our old friend peter morici from maryland. what is going on here? >> this time of year refineries shut down to also adjust what they make winter blend to summer blend which is much more expensive. the combination of the two cause gas prices to usually go up somewhere between, you know, 30 and 50 cents this time of year and americans tend to forget that from last year. >> let me the con train contrarian, factories have to shut down their oil refineries. we have seen cities folding up different jobs as a result of the gas prices

going down. is this a good thing for the economy? >> well, it's not a bad thing. we normally expect gas prices to vary through the year. the e.p.a. requires a different blend in different cities depending on atmospheric conditions and the temperature. reality is it's more expensive he to make summer blends than it is issue with the blends so we get this every year. there are also some psychological factors at play which, of course speculate us to rush around in strange ways. for example there is a strike at nine refineries, those refineries haven't closed down. the supervisory people are running them. oil companies have announced that they're putting off some big projects because of low crude prices the reality is that isn't going to effect how much oil we pump for a couple of years. >> peter you say it's not a bad thing necessarily for the economy but it is for the american family. you know, any time gas prices go up, they have -- they are affected by it. they feel the effect. everyone is going to different gas stations

looking for the one that chase the cheapest price. that's why you have long lines. what states are affected. isn't there is a list of certain states? >> it's actually specific localities. in the piece before you this named the city where it went up 22 cents whereas the national average is up 10. one of the things that we failed to recognize is that specific refineries service specific areas because the e.p.a. has chopped up the united states the map to require different blends of of gas in different locations to minimize ozone pollution and things of that nature. >> so gas prices dropped in the last six months. the first thing that happened in washington was various politicians started eyeing tax increase on gasoline. do you think this little spike we are looking at right now will stop them in their tracks? >> well, if gasoline prices don't come back down come april, may, and june. i think it would stop them in their tracks. if they do recede, we get pars the changeover and prices come down. they won't be as low as they were in the winter. of the markets overajusd.

talk about what this means. a lot of people across the northeast thinking spring what in the world are you talking about? show you the maps and what's going on. temperaturewise, the northern eastern part of the country is cold. the rest of the country feels like spring. you are hearing us talk about how cold and snowy it is. really the only area where it's below average is upstate new york and in throughout new england, the rest of the country at least the western two thirds of the country temps feeling very much like spring today tomorrow some of that heat moves in across the mid-atlantic. stays warm across much of the range. not the case across the northeast. first batch moves in today to. tomorrow. some areas picking up a foot of snow by the time that's done. upstate new york and much of england. that's where the snow is down to the southeast a beautiful sunny day sunshine pretty much everywhere. take a look at parts of the northern plains in the front range.

>> so this started pretty young for you right? your grandfather served in world war ii. take pee back to september 11th, 2001 what unfolded on that horrible day. you were nine years old. what changed about you that day? >> >> i there i was too young to really appreciate at that time what was going on but i can say i witnessed firsthand the effect it had on my family on loved ones. horrible day. and, you know, over the course of the years getting more familiar with the military i have met a lot of inspiring leaders who have talked to me about how that day changed them forever. and i realize, you know as i'm getting older, i want to be a part of, you know the force that's driving to protect us from stuff like that. there is a tragedy. and i wanted to join the best team in the world and the united states military to do my part in making sure that our nation is safe and

you know all is well. >> so you were over in germany and you were inspired, of course, you were inspired by your own family, of course, what happened for new germany that really got you on the path of saying, you know what? i have got to join the army? >> yeah, well, a moderate military interest growing up but things really took off as you mentioned. my junior year of high school, when i went on a u.s.a. basketball team to play on an army base in germany in man heim actually it was there that i met one star general at the time robert brown. and he really inspired me to either go play for west point or to go play for coach k at duke. and he could just really relate to me being a taller guy, about 6'7" 6'8", he played for coach k at west point. he could aappreciate how i both value basketball and i have a desire to serve something bigger than myself. >> i love how you mention

height. you are a tall guy. how tall exactly are you? >> i'm 7 feet. >> 7 feet tall. army has height restriction which you know, you would think you are only allowed to be 80 inches tall. what happened? what did the army say to you to you when you applied? >> there was red tape i had to get through. there are certain things i just can't there are some tanks and some helicopters i might not be able to squeeze into. but i'm confident that they can find something for me to do where i can be of service. and right now i'm just trying to find uniforms, shoes that fit. stuff like that. yeah 4 inches beyond the army's 80-inch max height requirement. getting those special waivers. marshall, you are a role model for young boys and girls all over this country and hopefully a fruitful career in the nba if you can be able to do the two just like your two brothers. marshall, great to he so you this morning and good luck on the battlefield.

muriel was killed in one of those air strikes. conner, what's the latest? >> good morning. jordanian air strike killed the u.s. hostage kayla muriel. so far those claims isis so far that kayla muriel was killed or is still alive. just simply made the claim and left it at that very unlike isis which generally has provided some type of evidence that somebody has been killed. one of their hostages. a lot of speculation here in jordan really across the middle east that this was an attempt by isis to try to deflect attention away from the brutal killing of that jr. deignian pilot. still, u.s. and cia and state department officials are trying to investigate this claim. trying to hold out hope that maybe she is, in fact, still alive. there is a lot of speculation that maybe she was killed long before the

the other three. took him off of this plane and interviewed them and said hey i don't know these other guys. i wasn't trying to go to syria. i was going to spain by myself to spend a few days. fbi found out that wasn't true. they had vape from the greyhound bus station showing all of these guys were really traveling together. he has been charged with lying to the fbi. the other three have not been charged at this point. we don't know the status of that investigation. what's really interesting is this social media profile. we looked into and it we saw all these conversations direct messages on twitter between them. and it's very interesting. you go back a year and a half and hamza ahmed is talking about how he is lonely and doesn't have any friends. then you see this kind of evolution where he talks about meeting people at the mosques going to religious lectures. religious lectures off the hook and then talking with his other friends about how we need to be secret and we need to keep this all on the down lo. and then of course leaving on this gray hound bus. >> we should note for our viewers who are not aware minnesota has a large muslim

perfect and the first one, emt. you have to have training, but they have that. and states are recognizing those battlefield skills they have in an emergency situation where someone has a busted arm, they're not breatheing, this is a first level underneath paramedic. you do need to get licensed in a state. every state has different requirements, but the great news is that the states are now realizing they could fast track these vets in these programs by say california and illinois are doing a really good job of that. median salary is $31,000. >> and you can retire early. >> then you'll get licensed by the state, but you're working for hospital, emergency care facilities where the pay is really good right now and you also again can move up into the medical field. a lot of doctors started out as emts so there's a path there for you and i think a lot of vets would like to have that. >> you say another is paralegal and legal assistant. >> not a lawyer, but you're

news' james rosen. for the pro-life groups he's dragged them to court for peacefully protesting. of course, these are the enemies of the emergency and federal judges have slammed his department for bringing these cases and dismissed them. he's targeted james rosen at fox because they want to read their e-mails. he's done worse than that though. he's divided the country among racial lines. he went to places like ferguson and announced he was a black man as if nobody knew this. announced he was going to take sides frankly, on the side of the protesters the mob the looters that eventually burned things. he was there to validate their world view. he's divided the country racially over and over and over again. for a political motive. there's a benefit to his party his re-election by having people polarized and he's been the number one political organizer for this administration. >> and i got to take issue with

and because some parent doesn't vaccinate their child, your baby gets brain damage as a result of contracting measles. does the family have the right to see? >> absolutely. choices have consequences. bad choices have bad consequences and sending your kid to disney land or school without them having been properly vaccinated is is an especially bad choice. almost as bad as sending your kid to school with a loaded gun and when your bad choices impose harm on others you have got to pay. >> how difficult would this be to prove? how do we know this family is responsible for my child. >> that's a great point and that's an issue for the courts. and then you have a lot of states that have different laws. some states only for medical reasons. others for religious and quote unquote philosophical reasons and so the problem is, you should then look to the states have the legislature take this and say look, we're only going to grant it for medical extension.

have the best interrogation tactics like melissa mccarthy in the heat, however, there is a right way to get exactly what you want and not just from the bad guys. today, we are getting tips from the pros on how to negotiate your way through almost anything. joining us now, christopher voss. great to see you this morning. before we get into how you use your training to help in your daily life, tell us a little bit about your background. >> well, i was fbi agent for 24 years and a hostage negotiator for most of that period of time. while i was running our international kidnapping response, i just wanted to get better, so i went outside law enforcement, started working with harvard law school and some other people and realized i could start applying this stuff to business and every aspect of my life. >> to get exactly what you want. so, give us some examples. number one, do your homework you say. >> but you don't want to go overboard with that. you want to learn a little bit about it.

for example, if you're dealing with your cable company, they've probably done the homework for you, so you find out what they're offering new customers because i've done a will the of market data. they have that. you have to do some, but don't want to get crazy and spend so much time doing homework that you never negotiate. >> and you shouldn't get worked up like some of us lose our tempers because they've jacked up our bill. stay calm, you say? >> right there's two problems with that. first of all, they're used to that, so if you get angry with with them, that's what they deal with and you're not approaching them in a new way and you're probably not quoing to get what you want. a problem driving out with a positive frame of mind and getting angry, you just don't pick up on the clues and miss good opportunities. positive frame of mind keeps you smarter. >> a lot of people these days don't want to say i'm sorry. no one wants to take responsibility. should we say i'm sorry? >> great. and i hear that all the time, especially in the regards to women, that they shouldn't

apologize. i'm sorry is an enormously powerful thing to use. just more of a matter of when you use it. oftentimes, if you say i'm sorry at the beginning of the conversation it really gets the other side's attention because they wonder what in the world you're apologizing for and they listen closely, so it can be a great way to start a conversation, especially with a customer service person. >> i have a friend that says you can say anything, it's all in how you say it so if you're about to say something harsh, should you say, what i'm about to tell you is going to sound harsh, but -- is that a good tactic? >> pretty close. i wouldn't say but because after you give them a set up, just hesitate for a second, and say, i'm sorry. >> clearly, i'm terrible. i need to learn from you. what do i do. sorry. >> that's all right. just say, this is going to sound harsh and then hesitate a moment, give them a chance to collect themselves and then say

it. but's usually a bad word to use and it kills whatever you've said beforehand, so just avoiding that word is helpful. >> what about appreciation and comparison. >> you know, people love to be appreciated and it's actually genuine appreciation, which is genuine from flattery. so, when you tell them things that are positive that are true and then after that, if you simply just say, all right, here's what's also true and it's not so positive then just ask them how do we compare these two things. some people call confrontation a bad thing, but if you look at it as just a focus comparison and then put it out in front of people without actually impaleing them with it making them look, it's very effective. >> how often does this work for you, chris? >> well, you know, it works a lot, it works i would say enough to have it dominate most of the communication of my life.

since newtown. some took place in the parking lot. like taking tinder into a hot area where you don't need it. >> on school shootings numbers, it is a problem because a lot of mainstream media picked up the study, and poei don't think scaring parents is really a smart tact tick mark is be honest. any school shooting is terrible and we've had terrible, horrible tragedies, but let's focus on where the real problems are. if a kid is dangerously mentally ill, he should be in a mental hospital. he should be getting treatment. having a new gun control law is not going to stop that kid from shooting into a zool. that's where the real issues. >> mark you've seen a bunch of shootings in gun-free zones, clearly those didn't help. shouldn't we be focussing on mental illness. >> that's one of the things we have to focus on. here's the thought i like to present to people, in the united kingdom, they are not more or
