from previous storms. we would ask people to continue to check in on their neighbors. the other issue we would ask people to think about especially once the snow stops perhaps on the monday holiday some of the issues associated with clearing snow off their roofs. i know that sounds like a pretty unusual request, but we have seen a significant increase in the number of roofs both commercial and residential that have been collapsing. as the snow totals start to get up to eight feet over the course of the past 2 1/2, almost 3 weeks here in eastern massachusetts, this becomes a significant concern. based on the latest forecast, we believe cape anne and the highlands will be hit hard by the high winds and flooding tomorrow morning's high tide is around 7:30. we ordered state police and national guard to prestage high

several states, including our own. >> we've been listening to charlie baker the newly elected governor of massachusetts for storms that will hit boston this time. they call it a snow hurricanes. bitter low temperatures. massive winds up to 50 60 miles per hour and more than a foot of snow predicted for massachusetts. throughout the northeast, these blizzard warnings for later today and tonight, plunging deep freeze, frigid temperatures. it will be a rough evening later on today and tomorrow for much of the northeast. those are the precautions now ongoing in massachusetts. we are going to go now to our senior meteorologist janice dean live in the weather center tracking all this. clearly, they are making preparations for the worst there in massachusetts. how bad could it get? >> i think after this snowstorm we'll be into the top three snowiest seasons on record for boston. their average snow season is a little over 41 inches.
1:07 pm
they're at 79 inches, almost 80 inches. this one could bring us in towards 89, 90 inches at the very least. again, we've been setting records in the boston area. it looks like obviously we are going to get at least ten inches out of this system and another one on wednesday, a potential nor'easter. we are caught in this pattern of winter storm after winter storm. this one we have blizzard warnings that stretch all the way from long island up towards maine including boston. this is the clipper system right now. we are actually seeing snow in the new york city area new jersey delmarva peninsula up towards boston. it's going to continue into the overnight and into tomorrow but the one thing that sets this storm apart is the winds. we could see wind gusts in excess of hurricane force, 75 miles per hour along the coast. that's going to be the concern. then you heard the mayor of boston mention the cold

temperatures. we haven't felt these cold temperatures in decades in some cases. so there's the snowfall. again, the winds are really going to be bitter upwards of six to 12 hours straight. that's where we have blizzard warnings in effect. even though they are going to see extreme amounts of snow for new england, the fact we are into a blizzard situation is what is going to make things even worse. again, winds in excess of 50, 70 miles per hour along the coast are going to cause major problems. you are going to see perhaps roof collapses as well as power outages along the coast. a really dangerous situation unfolding as we get into the next 24 48 hours. >> viewers have to pay attention to all the weather forecast you are giving us and paying attention to their local forecast. thank you very much. >> got it. isis militants are gaining ground in iraq's anbar province according to new records.

pick up territory and drive u.s. troops out of the region. >> the other thing they are trying to do is show they are willing to do what the americans and iraqi forces are not willing to do, and that is willing to take horrendous casualty rates to make a point. they are bringing in p foreign fighters coming in to die in jihad. so they strap bombs to them and send them up to the gate and see if they can blow their way in. the rest get killed in the process. they are making a point. >> reporter: right now there are more than 300 american troops at the al-assad base where they are working to teach iraqi soldiers how to fight and there are questions about what americans are going to do if isis makes it further than the outer gates at al assad. >> the reality is 320 surrounded by what? 1,000, 2,000? how quickly? it only takes about 20 to 30 minutes of these guys to get to

this area. in terms of an actual rescue i think at this point if those plans haven't been put into place, it's probably too late for us to actually start moving things in quick order. >> reporter: even though isis is in al baghdadi, this attack fits into a pattern of ups and downs in the fight against the islamic state. >> peter doocy, thanks a lot. to the crisis in the ukraine, we are less than an hour away of that supposed cease-fire in eastern ukraine. sadly hasn't slowed down the fighting today. shells raining down on this government-held town. striking a school. that school later burned to the ground. this as the obama administration has released these new satellite images. they say show pictures of russian troops joining the separatists as they are preparing to try and launch a full scale assault. all this despite promises from

observation. always good to see you. thank you. we have seen no northage of potential republican candidates. on the democratic side it is still a waiting game. former secretary of state hillary clinton the obvious favorite. she hasn't declared. some democratic fund raisers are starting to get impatient and talking about starting to look elsewhere. if she does not run, is there enough time for another candidate to drum up enough interest to win? doug good to see you. so much to talk about here. could it be because people are asking why is hillary clinton waiting so long to announce that she would run for president, if that's what is going to happen? could hillary be waiting for the list of gop contenders to whittle down to figure out her strategy?
1:15 pm
>> i think it's more basic than that. i think she is the obvious and acknowledged front-runner of the democratic side. she has substantial leads over every possible republican contender. there is no reason for her to announce now. she is going to wait. i suspect it will be late spring/early summer before she declares. >> when mrs. clinton declares will the money follow? >> absolutely. i can't guarantee that hillary clinton will be elected president even though she is the front-runner. what i can tell you is that she will, as that front-runner, have no problem given the clinton's network raise whatever she needs, which i believe arthel will exceed $1 billion. >> what? >> $1 billion. you heard it. it will exceed that. could go as high as $1.5 billion begin the supreme court decisions that make it easier for unregulated soft money to come into the process. >> what is all this talk about
1:16 pm
if hillary doesn't announce soon i'm going to put my interest and money elsewhere? what are they talking about? >> i have no idea. elizabeth warren would be a very strong candidate if she were to run. there is polling that would suggest that. i've done it. at this point there is no indication senator warren is going to run. other than her there is not anyone who could rival hillary. hillary is basically operating on the principle when she is visible she doesn't necessarily increase her level of support. with the book tour she lost support. she is waiting and knows she can raise the money. >> is there any downside for the democrats having all their eggs in the hillary basket? >> having a united democratic party will make it easier for her to win. mitt romney had a divided republican party in 2012.
1:17 pm
ultimately, that didn't help him and probably hurt him. >> bottom line, you think secretary clinton is waiting because she can. >> that's exactly right. she has the benefit of having time be on her side and will run out the clock if she can. >> we know for sure hillary clinton is going to be the democratic presidential nominee. >> there are very few things that are certain in life, but i think it's certain, one that she will run. if doesn't run and she has shown no indication she will i think hillary will be the democratic nominee. >> another certainty is we'll have you back to talk about it. >> i look forward to that. >> thank you. the northeast can't catch a break this winter. today on this saturday folks spending their afternoon preparing for even more snow. not to mention those hurricane-force winds. officials saying stay home. also there are new developments in the american sniper trial.

1:24 pm
you expect and what would you expect the prime minister to tell members of congress those who aren't boycotting his speech? >> what we need to achieve is for iran to dismantle its nuclear weapon program because just a decade ago they were not allowed to even have one centrifuge. now we are talking about six, 7,000 centrifuges they will allow to have spinning. just remind you for a country to have nuclear power they don't need a single centrifuge. canada has nuclear power without centrifuges. switzerland, spain and 20 other countries. why do they need these centrifuges? only because they want to acquire nuclear weapons. the one outcome we need to desire is dismantle it. iran is on the floor right now with this economic pressure. if we don't let up if we just continue the pressure they'll have to give up. i don't understand why at the very last moment we are sort of
