people in there to try to solve a situation entirely of our making? >> i think there are a lot of back tore factors here. we certainly contributed a great deal to it. so, yes, we do have a moral responsibility to clean this up. we also have a moral responsibility to our allies to make sure that they can live in a world that allows them to function in a way that is congruent with u.s. policy. and that really becomes the question. do we want the kind of world that we can live with or do we want a world that we find it very difficult to live in. and i think that becomes really the fundamental question that we need to ask ourselves and we need to develop policies that actually say we are going to create a world or do our best to create a world that we can live in and that's what we need to do at this point. >> 26 years as an i willntelligence officer.

i shouldn't have done it. the court is not letting them play the audio in court but according to our producers, he said, if i take town hisdown his soul, he was going to take down mine. casey stegall is live outside the courthouse. this thing is all over the place and i'm surprised that those vials didn't shut this whole thing down. it was close. >> yeah, it was very close. when the defense stood up and said they wanted a mistrial, we all paused and held our breaths. but that request was denied by the judge. this is all surrounding testimony from last week. when a texas ranger took the stand, david armstrong is his name. and he said on the stand that the glass vials belonged to eddie routh and contained an unidentified clear liquid with rubber stoppers similar to what you would use with a syringe. well, it turns out that the crime lab placed those vials

whether the defense can prove that he was so insane as to not understand what he was doing, not understand that what he was doing is wrong. so at this point, we have the prosecution has put in their case and they have done a pretty good job of showing that the evidence is clear that he did it he admits he did it. and he says i know what i did was wrong in the confession. and i'm sorry about what i did. so there is a pretty good case there. but now we have the defense coming on and they will bring in psychiatrists who is taking a medication that was for schizophrenia generally or for paranoid ideas and so on. and so now they're -- >> what was that, do you know? >> i don't know the name of the medication but it was a medication for that purpose. so they will bring doctors who will say whatever diagnosis obviously some ptsd. so on. the confession and the video that they showed today though rayed some real issues. one question is was he trying to

hit another car ended up a few feet from the tv news crew there. you can hear the music. right where two weather reporters had been standing a few minutes earlier. mean time the federal government shut down in washington for the first time this winter and this brutal winter has sent a city in upstate new york waving the white flag. it is ithaca. the tourism agency's home page suggested visitors head south to sunny florida maybe key west, and return north when things thaw out. officials later took down that page. what county is he in? no that's the wrong one, some kind of charles county. charles county maryland. it's really bad in the deep south. i guess y'all got a little bit there, too, huh, dude? >> yeah i mean it's not that bad. i think they're probably laughing at us up in ithaca. but this is the kind of snow we got about six inches here in the suburbs, four inches closer to the district. it's the kind of snow that's really, really easy to pick up. not everybody has done that. but because of that, people have been coming out very effortlessly, wiping off their windshields.
