declining attendance in mass catholic mass, is because the church is not relevant to many people. it doesn't speak to our modern lives. and here there's a tremendous opportunity, and i've asked every cleric including muslim imams, to address their congregations about what the moral duty is for good people. good people. doesn't have to be religious, atheists too. good people. what is our moral obligation to confront evil? therefore if you believe we have a proactive obligation to call on our leaders the president and congress, to come up with some kind of strategy to stop this jihad. now, i'm open to suggestions, but right now there's nothing being done. and it's not even being spoken about in most houses of worship. >> well i think you're right. i mean i think a prayer, we believe, is the most important and powerful tool in dealing with this. i mean ultimately this is not our place, this is not our earth. >> all right. but let me ask you something do
5:52 pm
you think prayer would stop it? >> i'm not saying prayer would have stopped it. we're talking about the role of the church. >> right. >> i think condemning evil -- absolutely, you're right. condemning evil and where appropriate and in this case of course and learn people what's going on. >> in getting people involved in trying to rouse the most powerful nation on earth to do something. >> churches aren't political wings of the discussion. >> not politics. it's morality. >> well the church at the same time let's not forget also advocates for basically open borders. so the church is in a weird position here right? borders are very -- >> i don't think -- comparing proverbial apples to oranges. the clear issue is islamic fanatics who want to kill christians and jews and will if they can. okay. so what do the christians and jews do? >> but the pope doesn't have an army.
5:53 pm
>> no, but he certainly has power. he has a power to mobilize public opinion. >> and he has strongly condemned with his very big pulpit. >> the american church has not done that. the american catholic church is largely silent. >> my priest has. i don't know what's going on in other parishes. but i think you're right. good and evil moral relativism has been a real problem krooz e across a lot of faiths, right? and christianity especially. in the united states moral relativism where you can't judge anyone, no judgment we're tolerant of everybody that has hurt christianity in the united states. i think that line has to be drawn. so i absolutely agree with you there. all i'm saying, bill, is when the church becomes just another political lobbying organization i think it loses some of its power in their community. that's all i'm saying. >> it doesn't have much power left because it's -- >> people don't know what
5:54 pm
christianity is. i don't think they talk about the gospel enough. >> there's philosophy and then there's guidance. in order for the church to make a comeback it has to become more honest and more relevant. we always appreciate the lively debate with laura ingraham.
