found guilty of murder in texas. >> heather childers with the breaking developments. >> eddie ray routh will spend the rest of his life in prison for murdering navy seal chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield at a texas gun range two years ago. >> we the jury find the defendant eddie ray routh guilty of the following offenses: capital murder as charged. >> the 12-person jury taking less than three hours to unanimously convict routing -- convict routh of capital murder late last night, a life sentence with no chance of parole. the victims' family crying, holding hands in court grateful, they say, to finally have closure. >> welch waited two years -- we've waited two years for god to get justice for us on behalf of our son and as always god has proved to be faithful. and we're so thrilled that

we have the verdict, that we have tonight. >> listen to this. in his victim impact statement, littlefield's father speaking to his son's murderer directly saying this: you didn't know chad's name when you brutally murdered him. now you will have the rhett of your wasted life to remember his name. his name is chad littlefield. and then he spelled out his son's name. chris kyle's wife, taya not in court when the verdict was read. she stormed out during closing arguments cursing and slamming her hands on a wall as defense attorneys blasted routh's mother for manufacturer -- never mentioning her son's history of vioilence before he was taken to a gun range. now we're hearing chilling audio hours after the murders.

>> i had to. you know that situation. >> eddie ray routh's attorneys planning to appeal that conviction. >> thank you for the latest. >> the jury reached the sniper verdict in under three hours and chose to deliberate last night rather than waiting until today as previously scheduled so what was why the minds of the jurors. joining us now is arthur aidala. arthur, you were working through the night and this morning after hearing the verdict, it was under two and a half hours. were you surprised they came to this decision so quickly? >> no, not at all. what i was surprised with was after a long day yesterday of closing arguments and tedious instructions by the judge in my experience the jurors usually say when begin a choice do you want to go home and start deliberating in the morning or do you want to start right now? when they said we want to

start right now -- i think it was 6:00 or something like that -- to me it was like okay they know what they want to do. elisabeth, here's the thing. the judge gives the jury a lot of rules and instructions but sometimes people don't necessarily follow them to the letter of the law. and there's a lot of like, even if there is not obvious conversations there's eye rolling, body language there's indications to each other like we're not going with this defense of insanity because it's just not there. what people have to understand is a criminal defense attorney, these lawyers are assigned. they get a call from the judge saying we need you to represent this person. you go in. steve, there's nothing to do. this is what we call an elongated plea because there is no defense. you do the best you can with what you have. they sat up there with a straight face, put their defense out there and it took the jury around two hours to say that's not happening. >> ultimately the jurors

rejected the insanity claim. clearly this guy pulled the trigger. they knew that. they knew it was brutal. but then to watch, for instance, we were showing a moment ago, in that room the confession. when you hear the guy say he did it, it's hard to put the genie back in the bottle. >> how about this? they both get shot in the back with what's called citizenship pelling which -- what's called stippeling it's within 12 inches. you can't say it was self-defense. chris turned around in a way that got -- no. they were executed assassinated. >> with chad littlefield in particular, they point out in the impact statement, not only did you shoot him, he was still alive, you walked over and shot him in the head and shot him in the face. >> chad is maybe the person we hear about the least and his story is maybe even more sad. he was just hanging out with his bud divment he --

buddy, who is chris. he's 36, he's married, he's got a child. >> people are going to look at, as we look at the trial, look at the impact statement and find out more of what happened we're going to be looking at why this guy was loose and why the dallas v.a. said you're a danger to yourself you're a danger to yourself, you're a danger to others. here's a bucket of pills and go about your day. >> there will be a national reaction to this in an appropriate way saying we need to do more due diligence before we decide to release someone, before we allow someone who is going to help him take him to a firing range. that is not exactly like going to a petting zoo. >> emotions are running high particularly when everyone heard taya kyle's description of the last time she spoke to and saw chris kyle. watch this. >> at the house and we were both trying to hurry and get to where we were supposed to go. he had gone around the house one way to try to find me and i you know

like comedy eventually we found each other in the hallway. you know he just said he was inviteing chad to come along. >> you said chad was at the house? >> chad to have an extra set of eyes. then he -- he said make sure this guy knows that chad can be trusted 100% so that he's comfortable saying what he wants he wants to say. then we said we love each other and kissed and hugged like we always did. >> she was not in the courtroom when the verdict was read. she stormed out during closing arguments because essentially they said about the mother of eddie ray routh, you really should have told chris kyle that the guy was violent.

>> to be honest with you, i don't know why that got her upset. she cursed she hit the wall. >> i get it totally. the mother is looking out for her son, but knowing he's dangerous she sent him out with chris with a gun. >> i thought she was upset at the lawyer for even saying that because that's usually what happens versus the facts of what she said. the facts of what the lawyer is saying is true. why would you do that if you know your child has this issue, why didn't you take steps? it makes you think of the killer of all the children in connecticut. the mom knew that the child -- and she's teaching him how to shoot. a little bit of common sense here folks. >> what are the spobts of an appeal -- the possibilities of an appeal? >> the one issue about the peel is -- appeal is the american sniper movie is all over the place, they say there is no way our guy

can get a fair trial right now, right here. can we either have a change of venue or can we have a little bit of an adjournment? let the oscars finish, let this die down so the jurors don't have this in their mind. there was no opportunity for there to be any sympathy. >> who makes that decision? >> the defense attorneys. they have to. it would have been inappropriate if they didn't. the judges made that decision. no, this is going to be forward. that will be grounds for the appeal. >> in the courtroom he evidently from a to z never showed any emotion upset, anger, smirking, nothing. what does that mean? >> i don't think it is going to play that big of a role. what i noticed was when a client that you're claiming has some sort of mental disease or defect is going to be incarcerated it is lawyering 101 that you ask the judge, while he's incarcerated i'm asking the court mark his papers for mental treatment.

put him in the treatment section. don't put him in the general population. that didn't happen here. but maybe in texas things happen differently. >> we mentioned that taya was not in the courtroom for the verdict reading. someone who was a friend of chris kyle, marcus luttrell, this is what he posted. justice served for chris and chad littlefield's family. you thought you had ptsd before, wait till the boys in t.d.c. find out you killed a texas hero. >> how long after a verdict before a sentence? >> in texas there is no other sentence. normally there is a couple of weeks and the defense attorney is pointing out mitigating factors. we've seen it in jodi arias, where there is a period of time. here the judge is

handcuffed. this is the only sentence that could be handed down so he handed it down. >> thank you arthur aidala for the analysis. meanwhile, we have other headlines. >> good morning. hope you're off to a good day. we start with another fox news alert. sweater -- southwest airlines grounding planes to inspect a hydraulic backup system. they canceled 80 flights yesterday but most of those grounded planes will in fact fly later today. southwest made an unusual agreement with the feds to let the planes keep flying for a maximum of five days while all those inspections are being worked out. as promised, president obama has brought a swift veto to the keystone pipeline bill. the administration maintains that legislation bypassed the state department's analysis of the pipeline's benefits. now it's up to congress to override it. it would take a two-thirds vote in the house and senate to get that done and

a fox news alert. new reports this morning claiming that isis has abducted at least 150 christians, women and elderly predominantly after sweeping through villages in northeastern syria. many are women and children as well. former arkansas governor mike huckabee just got back from the middle east. he joins us now. governor, we were talking during the break. how close were you in the last week or so to an isis camp? toip we -- >> we were probably two and a half miles from an isis camp as we stood on

eddie ray routh will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. the jury spending an unprecedented three hours deciding to convict him of murder. >> it was short. routh's lawyers tried to argue that he was insane when he shot kyle and littlefield at a gun range in texas two years ago but the jury didn't buy it. routh's attorneys now planning to appeal and they certainly have plenty to use as ammo for appeal. all they have to do is say we couldn't get a fair trial here in texas and the biggest movie in the world right now "american sniper" about this guy; it would be impossible. although that was brought up pretrial, the judge said it's not a factor. so let's see if it goes anywhere. >> when they originally tried to move it based on the location there a jury of ten women and two men after just three hours -- and many people thought they would take the night and come back with a verdict. taya kyle was not in the room for the verdict reading. there were some supporters in the room, of course.

one being marcus luttrell navy seal who posted on facebook that justice was served in a message to routh. >> taya left the oscars in order to be at the trial on monday. they canceled everything monday. on tuesday when the closing arguments finished they went to dinner and came out with this verdict. we watched it a little bit on megyn kelly. martha mccallum filled in. a former navy seal and friend of chris kyle, here's why he said the trial was important. >> in the military we celebrate accountability. i think it's something washington, d.c. and the private sector could embrace a little more. accountability is when you do something wrong you need to be held accountable for that. i have great faith and confidence in the american people and jurors and i trust that accountability and justice wins and i think it's something our leadership could look at

and go accountability is important and it's something our military loves and admires. >> clint is absolutely right. in fact, the d.a. in the closing arguments made the accountability argument. the d.a. urged the jurors don't let this guy off the hook for the shootings after a lifetime of looking in the case of eddie ray routh for excuses for his antisocial behavior. said quote, this defendant gunned down two men in cold blood in our county. find him guilty. two and a half hours later they did. >> we heard for the longest time this wasn't about ptsd but they didn't want to bring that out until the trial was over. we heard the mom even though she cares for her kid, should have known this guy is dangerous having a favor to bring her son who you know is dangerous who you pled to keep in a hospital is flat-out wrong. corey robinson said our prayers with taya, thankful

here at "fox and friends." big day here. with this verdict. how much of a role did the film play into it? i'll start with you. >> i mean, i have to say, i don't think a lot. i think that this man was loved in the community. he was known in the community. did the film enhance that? maybe. he was already known there. and i don't think that it really affected it. the facts in the case are very clear cut. it's not as if the jury had a lot of room to say well, maybe this -- no, these were very clear cut facts here. this man went and killed these two men at close range in a gun range and admitted it. it's not there wasn't a lot here that could really influence them. the film, everyone knew about him anyway. >> let me ask you this it's 430 million there was the film grossed. nominated for six oscars, you say did it have a role? >> absolutely not. i'm going to elyou as far as a legal opinion is concerned, this

will have no effect on appeal. judges are very specific when they ask the jurors questions. even if you know the film and the case, will you put aside what you know and only go on what's on the evidence in the case. if the jurors individually say they will, it is presumed under the law that's exactly what they did. we have confidence in the law presums though jurors did exactly what the law said. in all the years i tried cases as a prosecutor and defense attorney have found jurors have actually followed that strukz unless there is evidence to the con contrary now reversal in the case. the evidence was solid from the beginning. this was not an easy insanity defense. in the end the appellate courts will say the defense was overwhelming. >> the timing in which the jurors came back with the verdict were you surprised?

>> i wasn't. when we see cases, we cases often, we try cases you get a sense of it. even when you're watching from outside. i got a sense that there was nothing here. they put on one expert for the insanity defense. was he insane legally? no. jurors can't be fooled. jurors are regular people who take their job very seriously. i agree. that, you know, a jury will come in and say i'll do what the judge tells me. i'll put that aside and i'll listen to the facts and evidence. here there wasn't much more to do. >> the evidence was clear? >> it was bad for the defense in this case their defense expert admitted -- this is what prosecutors do all the time when they cross-examine defense experts. he admitted the facts that were given to them by the defendant were inaccurate. if they're inaccurate, remember the defense has to prove the case by convincing evidence. . that was a death knell to their defense. >> thank you for joining me

what can you tell us this morning? >> elizabeth, good morning, i can tell you emotions ran very high inside that courtroom yesterday. all of the family members of the victims crying and holding hands as the decision came down. there was one person that was notably absent from the verdict being read. that was taya kyle the wife of chris kyle. she stormed out of the courtroom during the defense closing arguments, slamming her hand on the door as the defense attorneys hit on once again whether eddie routh's mother should have disclosed her son's previous violent past to the kyle family, which she did not. taya has been here for every single bit of this trial. in fact, she was the very first witness to take the stand. watch her describe the last time she saw her husband alive. >> i said may maybe make sure this person that chad can be

trusted 100% so he's comfortable saying what's he wants to say. he said i definitely will. and then that we loved each other. and gave a kiss and hug like we always did. >> the jury comprised of ten women and two men deliberated for only about two and a half hours last night before rendering the guilty verdict for the 27-year-old former marine. routh was also sentenced last night. it was an automatic life in prison without the possibility for parole. >> live in texas, thank you very much. peter johnson jr. joins us now to give analysis. we knew he murdered him. he admitted it. caught on tape. did anything surprise you about what went down last night? >> you know, i thought it might have come in even a little quicker based on the testimony that we heard in the case. >> two and a half hours?

>> obviously, the decedent, mr. kyle and mr. littlefield well-respected people in that community. there's always a residual of support and affection for victims of crime. and i thought that on a lot of counts the defense counsel didn't make the point they needed to make in terms of insanity. the point was, that the defendant had in fact suffered from delusions in the past. i was talking with a colleague here earlier today, there should have been, in my view, not to second guess the lawyers, a cavalcade of witnesses doctors to talk about the fact that they believed that he was insane. >> they brought one witness. >> i read the testimony, and in some ways, it was persuasive. in other ways it absolutely wasn't. >> do you think the jury -- you say you thought they might have come back quicker. do you think the jury, going in the jury room. they thought to themselves if we

say he's not guilty he could go to a mental institution. >> it depends on how well they know the law. i believe jurors want to be fair. but if they're aware that when someone says that to another juror,b they have a consciousness of that. they say i don't want to make a mistake. i don't want another family to be victimized in this way. >> it's interesting because they did have a lot to go with, the defense. they say that his own sister said he's been haunted by demons his whole life. the prosecutor psychiatrist said he didn't have ptsd but shows signs of schizophrenia. kyle tweeted out himself this guy is straight up nuts. >> they talked about that in the closing here. i'm not making the case that he was legally insane. i am making the case that there were a lot of potent issues that

could have been mobilized. it raises a lot of issues. what is the veteran's administration doing with mentally ill veterans? they're not doing a good job. there is too many suicides and homicide. there's too many untoward events. the kyle family has been victimized. they lost their father and husband and at the same time been vilified by people i believe to be insane. like jesse ventura. >> many in the military community furious that someone like routh could use ptsd as an excuse. >> that's right. that becomes an issue for a jury. if they invalidate the insanity issue and they get mad at the defendant and he's trying to use it, especially when he really didn't see action that can have an effect. >> next people looking into the appeal. the defense already said they're going to appeal this. do they have a good case?

they made it clear, we don't think we can get a fair trial in texas. >> i've had some commentators, i think that's a phony issue. if you're a respected member of the community, if you're a famous person, if you're a servant of the people as chris kyle was and the other decedent, then you should be entitled tool the same measure of justice as quick as everybody else. justice delayed and justice denied. >> unless you're in that courtroom, now we get to hear what taya said was her last conversation with chris kyle. she knew something was different this time. he's taken out dozens of troop members who were coming back from battle. not this time. listen. >> it didn't seem like normal chris. >> normally going out there, especially a place like rough creek it's beautiful. usually he's making their day and he knows it. which is what you know, that happened earlier.

he thought that he sounded really excited to go. he thought he was doing a good thing. >> he sounded a little irritated when you talked to him that afternoon. >> it was very short and it wasn't like short hey you're interrupting a good time. it was short like i wish i could say more because i'm not going to because there are people around. >> she wasn't in the courtroom at the time because she got up during closing arguments. she was upset they invoked her husband's name when they were talking about the mother of routh should have mentioned, by the way, he is unstable. >> and the defense is making the case that we talked about at one point, elizabeth what was the reason the mother allowed her son to go with chris kyle on that day. the defense is saying even the prosecution had an awareness he shouldn't been out on that particular day based upon his mental illness. it's a time of healing for this

128 planes out of concern that those planes were potentially unsafe for flight. the airline had failed to inspect backup hydraulic systems which are used to control the plane's rudder if the main system fails. after canceling 80 flights yesterday, most of those grounded planes are expected to fly today. the feds also agree to let southwest keep using more than 100 planes without inspection as long as they are checked by sunday. more on that as we get it. then another fox news alert, this brand new video coming in to "fox and friends." it shows the iranian military launching missiles on what appears to be a u.s. aircraft carrier. it's a replica used for drills they say. u.s. navy officials say the mock aircraft was a quote elaborately barge that was built last year. iran's war games also included shooting down a drone and planting undersea mines. now the drills are often used for propaganda. we spoke to officials who say

and i just hope and i pray that the families get some peace and resolution from this. because they've been dealing and carrying this very heavy burden of the loss of their loved ones and this trial for two years now. it's not gotten any easier for them. >> you know, something else, they kept saying he had ptsd and that's what happens when you go to war. a lot of people and other less educated channels are starting to blame war for this and ptsd for the violence. what's the reality as you know it. >> anybody who comes back from war comes back fundamentally changed at the core of that change is post traumatic stress. anybody can suffer from that whether it's combat trauma or being in a car accident. post traumatic stress disorder is not a reason for anybody to go out and kill two people. it's not a reason whatsoever. i think to attribute the murder of chris kyle and chad littlefield to post traumatic stress is unfair to the families

and to the victims. and it's also unfair to the thousands of veterans that strubl with combat trauma everybody who don't commit crimes. >> absolutely. as you look at what's happened with this trial, you also find out in looking into routh's background that his mom knew he was dangerous to himself anderts. he was diagnose said that way. the dallas v.a. took him out in the wilderness with a basket full of meds. what's your answer to that? >> anybody who is wired in to what's happening in the v.a. right now knows we need to transform the v.a. at a basic level and make sure we're putting the needs of the veterans before the needs of this giant bloated bureaucracy that is the v.a. route is the prime example of this. he should have been in an inpatient facility not out on his own. it's important for people to remember that just because the verdict is in and the case might be closed, the healing process

for the families is still very much happening. we have to make sure we keep them in our prayers. >> and the good news is it's out there and on the big screen, $300 million it's made at the box office already you and chris were on the road together about your books. what is your reaction to the public's reaction to the success of american sniper. >> it earned over $300 million at the box office. i think the american people want to hear more stories that celebrate selfless service and honor on the battlefield. now that these wars are coming to a close. it's important for americans to learn what we go through on the battlefield and at home. the movie does just a briliant job of capturing life not only on the battlefield but also what it's like at hope. >> meanwhile coming up incredible video you have to

blank my have. let's look at the salary. scott walker's salary $1473.28. the chancellor pulling in nearly $495,000 and benefits. when she makes three quarters of her salary on taxpayer money to not present the other side, to students, you say is what? >> i think it's completely irresponsible. as someone who makes three times what the governor of the state makes. i think it's reasonable for the taxpayers of the state and the students that are paying tuition to go to the university to question how efficient and how effective the system is operating. >> you say if you are going to present both sides you have evidence. you sent out an email don't rush to conclusions. what are the positives with fairness now, what are the positives that relate to your university? >> she sent out those emails, we decided to spntd.

what the governor's proposal does it's a 2.5% reduction in funding of the overall budget. what it does not do is leave the system without any way to make up those losses. the governor's plan includes a plan for a public authority for the university or an plan. it's not a governor sitting nat capital saying how much am i going to cut from the university this year. that's where that $150 million number comes from. it's what can be saved yearly if they embrace this idea. >> how much of a deservice is it to students to not have that other side put out by your chancellor there, it has to be put out by you. >> i think it's a complete disservice but it's making us as college republicans better and stronger. as my dad would tell me, adversity breeds character. this is one of those times. we will keep telling students all the great things that the

the trial at all did it impact the verdict. when you look at the success of the film we sat down with two attorneys who debated it. who said the movie and fame did not impact the jury and his colleague agrees. >> he was already known there. i don't think it really affected it. the facts in the case are very clear cut. it's not as if the jury had a lot of room to say maybe this maybe that. no, these were very clear cut facts here. this man went and killed three two men at close range in a gun range and admitted it. it's not there wasn't a lot here that could really influence them. the film, everyone knew about him anyway. >> it's interesting is for some reason, this new yorker magazine according to the new york post got ahold of routh and said why did you shoot him. one of his responses was i shot littlefield because he was thinking back didn't shoot. i guess littlefield not only was he texting they were worried

about this clown, but they were -- he was also pulled back to watch him. what actually happened for when they were observing him to him getting the drop on them, we're probably never know. >> we had the privilege of talking to a veteran who trained bradley cooper in the film. when he saw the -- a scene in the film, we spoke with him earlier, following the verdict he said this justice has been served in texas. thoughts and prayers with the kyle and littlefield families. >> we asked you what your comments were. richard wrote this on facebook. i'm glad to see they blamed routh and not the gun. >> that would have been tough. >> gaven says justice has been served for chris kyle and chad littlefield. rest easy you guys were true heroes. >> the district attorney in the case summarized.

chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield found guilty of murder. the defense claimed the former marine suffered from ptsd and was psychotic at the time forcing the jury to determine whether mental illness played a role. let's talk to dr. keith ablow. you were here in the studio yesterday. what's the number one thing that strikes you boult what the jury decided yesterday in texas? >> the number one thing that strikes me is how loathe juries are to exceed to the insanity plea, even when it makes sense. because they're not sure what that implied. they're not allowed to be hold, listen this could be decades and probably will be decades in a locked psychiatric facility. they have it in their minds this man could go free in 30 days. i think they're just scared to do what's right. this wasn't right. >> so you think he was insane? >> well, i don't know. brian, you tell me.

he thought that a giant tapeworm was eating him. he thought pig people were going to take over the earth. he thought his co-workers was going to roast him and eat him anda machine at work was going to roast him. >> what about the idea of cannabis induced psychosis. if someone is taking them they're choosing to take marijuana, weed, whatever it s your thoughts? >> sure. well, here's the thing, i mean this is a man who was hospitalized several times in the v.a. system with psychosis. it wasn't called drug indeesed psychosis. it was called ptsd or as the expert witness in the defense testified paranoid schizophren ru. can these things be calmplicated by drug use? should we expect the family of the chris kyle my sue the v.a.

buying that whole argument that eddie ray routh was insane at the time of these murders and that he did not know that what he was doing was wrong. the defense, frankly, had an uphill battle the whole time here because their client confessed to the murders. remember that? as a texas ranger interrogated him the night he was arrested. it was all caught on tape. it was played for the jury. listen to what the 27-year-old described when he told his sister what he had done after he dropped by her house following the crimes. >> i killed men today. it wasn't a want to it was a need. i had to to get out of that situation i was in today. >> he had to he says. routh was sentenced minutes after the verdict was read. life in prison without the possibility of parole. of course, the defense is able to appeal which is typical in these kinds of cases.

eddie ray routh showing zero emotion when that verdict was read. >> your heart goes out to chad littlefield's family too. during the victim impact statement, the father at one point looked directly at routh and said you didn't even know my son's name when you murdered him. and then he spelled his son's name. he said, he just spelled it out. chad littlefield. so powerful. so emotional and justice for the families. >> and littlefield's mom saying we waited two years for god foogive us justice on behalf of our son. we're so grateful toov the verdict we have tonight. >> what we did not hear -- we sautea kyle took the stand. we did not hear what she had to say. here's a little of the emotional testimony. she was there for i believe, day one spelling out who chris kyle was and what happened the day he

died. listen. >> we were at the house. and we were both trying to hurry and get to where we were supposed to go. al and so he had gone around the house one way to try to find me. and like comedy, eventually we found each other in the hall way. you know he just said he was inviting chad to come along. he said chad had come to the house. >> chad was at the house. just to have an extra set of eyes. and then he -- then i said maybe make sure that this guy knows that chad can be trusted 100% so that he's comfortable saying whatever he wants to say. he said i definitely will. and then we said we loved each other. and gave each other a kiss and hug like we always did. >> the reason that tv image and the sound are available today is

because up until the verdict, no sound was allowed out of the courtroom. she was not in the courtroom taya kyle last night when the jury reached its decision because she stormed out midclosing arguments because she was upset the defense attorneys had invoked her husband's name when they were talking about, you know routh's mom really probably should have told chris kyle that the son was violent. suggesting perhaps some couple responsibility on the part of the mother. >> they had mentioned people around the family for the last two years. this happened february 2, 2013. don't believe ptsd, and don't believe and don't believe what you hear that this guy actually served in battle. then we hear that he served overseas and in haiti. but they knew he was unbalanced. it seems if you listen to -- look at what the sister said and the mom said there were desperate cries because this guy

was dangerous to himself and others. two days after being sent to the v.a. hospital in dallas, he's let out. >> in that courtroom yesterday watts a friend of chris kyle. he posted this after the jury reached their decision. justice servesed for chris and the littlefield family. routh, you thought you had ptsd before. wait till the guys in tdc find out you killed a s.e.a.l. >> greg abbot took the twitter. he wrote justice chris kyle's killer convicted of capital murder. #americansniper. what happens next, well the defense is going tew pealo appeal. they're going to say routh couldn't get a fair deal because of the american sniper movie, so big. where is it going to go? >> nowhere. >> we'll keep you posted. >> six minutes past the top of the hour. we have a fox news alert. >> brand new video in to fox news shows the iranian military

get very far. a 39-year-old guy was arrested at the minneapolis airport with a fake somali passport. now the fbi is involved. this guy had a piece of paper in his pocket with the name and address of a contact in syria. and that is raising some serious concerns he was planning to go to syria to fight for isis. he has been arrested before for making terroristic threats. he has been sensed to over a year in prison for out standing warrants charges. as promised president obama has brought a swift veto to the keystone pipe line bill. the administration maintains that the legislation by-passed the state department and typical protocol. it's up to congress to override that veto. it would take two thirds vote in the house and senate to get that done. some democrats say they are prepared to do that. just not enough of them.

incident. >> i think the reaction is one of both sorrow and relief that finally the littlefield and kyle families can have some closure on the subject. i think that just this hanging out there for taya and her family as well as chad's family was a huge burden on them. it's nice we've got justice. i know things are finally done and they can move on with their live sglz we can finally hear what taya was saying on the stand. she was saying when she talked to chris on the shooting range he was very tense. he was usually very happy when he brings these soldiers out like that. what's your reaction to that? do you think he knew he was in trouble? >> it's hard for me to imagine the reason being is, because chris was such a warrior. if he really had an inkling this guy was any danger to himself or chad. i can't imagine a scenario where he would let his guard down. he had been through so much war

and the battles he had fought in various parts of the world. it's difficult for me to think this was anything other than a drop back shot which is the verdict and the evidence found. he was shot in the back by this guy. so i just don't think that chris saw a credible threat. if he would have, i think he would have been ready for the shot. >> we see in the movie chris kyle's movie procession. we see how the town came out and the flags were flying. with his passing as we examine his life i get the sense the country is mourning for the first time. >> i think so as well. remember something, it wasn't just the town that that funeral procession went through. that was 200 miles of freeway that the governor of texas shutdown down. it was the most amazing events i had ever seen or heard of. there was hundreds of thousands of texans that were lining that freeway the entire distance in a driving rain storm to honor

they're okay to fly. >> where are we at now with southwest? >> reporter: good morning. lots of headaches earlier this morning, about hafrllf a dozen flights were canceled from orlando international airport. but i do have some good news all the flights right now are scheduled on time. which is perfect timing so my photograph could pan to the crowd, checking in their bags. the line snakes all the way to the back. it's unclear if those six flights that were canceled earlier this morning were due because they missed the inspections or if it was weather related. flights going to chicago, dallas louisville pittsburgh and san antonio. all of those were canceled. those were the 6:00 and 7:00 morning flights. southwest airlines is expected to cancel up to 19 more flights across the country today as the planes get the federal inspections they missed. 80 southwest flights across the country were canceled yesterday.

and so far southwest grounded more than 100 planes. that's about one fifth of its fleet. a southwest spokesperson says they're expected to finish a good portion of their inspections this morning. and like you guys mentioned, those inspections includes checking the hydraulic systems. back in 2009, southwest was flyingfly fine $7.5 million for failing to inspect planes for cracks in their fuel system. the faa did allow southwest to resume flying while inspections are done. all morning long, i was speak ing with passengers and they weren't too worried about flying this morning. others, a family was really freaked out. that said one of their flights was canceled going to chicago. al and they didn't know, of course, if it was due to the failed inspections. southwest sent us a statement. they said, quote, the safety of our customers and employees remains our highest priority.
