landmark. what is this place? johnny cash built it. >> one of the best recording studios in the world. jamie: families were close. >> yes. >> i can't wait to learn more, i would love to see inside. >>, of course. jamie: this cabin has been a creative refuge for dozens of major recording artists, but also like home to roy's boys. and linked to their late father. what was he like as a dad? >> wonderful. jamie: born in 1936, roy spent much of his youth in vernal, vernon, texas. >> he had his first radio show as an 8 year oeuldz oelz, he knn the door, he said i am roy orbison, i want to play some songs for you guys.

jamie: in 1955, a fateful meeting with johnny cash, gets him an invitation to sun records in tennessee, not long after roy marries his childhood sweetheart, they move to nashville, roy rockets to the top of the charts with a string of hits. jamie: was oh, "pretty woman" a game changer. >> they love the song it made him a international super star. jamie: roy and claudette have three boy, roy, anthony and wesley, roy can't ask for more. then in 1966, tragedy strikes. >> claudette and my dad were coming back from the drag races on their motorcycles, at the end of the ride, truck pulled on ut and claudette was killed instantly.

jamie: as 30-year old widower with three young sons, roy relies on his parents who live across the street for child care, he writes and tours, back in nashville, young wesley finds comfort in his father's songs. >> how it visited with him, he was on the road all of the time, so, that was i just always, would go to those records and listen. jamie: on tour in leads eengland, his drummer insist he go out and have fun, at a nightclub he meets 17-year-old beauty barbara skwraeu jacobs. >> he ran into my mom, and he looked over said grab that girl i'm going to mary her. jamie: they fell in love, starting a long distance romance, he suffers another devastating loss, on sep 15, a

fire rips through his home in nashville. jamie: where was he? >> the last show of a tourer in gland. he was showing pictures of boys and how happy we were. he found out,. jamie: roy's parents, and 3-year-old wesley escape. but his two older sons, 10-year-old roy dwayne, and 6-year-old tony are killed. >> was it something your dad was able to talk about. >> i have gone back to interviews, he said, if you look back and you are not a crazy person, you be crazy for what you did have not for what you don't have. jamie: barbara jacobs helps him through the grief. in 1969, they married. go on to have two boys, roy jr., and alex. for now roy's career takes a backseat, to family life. >> did he encourage you to play? >>ly did not push us, he just
