one. heb heb hebetud hebetude. thanks for watching us tonight. the spin stops here. breaking tonight new indications the rift between the white house and our greatest ally in the middle east is in fact growing as the obama administration doubles down refusing to accept the israeli prime minister at his word. while it is no secret that president obama and prime minister benjamin netanyahu have had their differences, it appears the rift has grown now. last night in an internet with megyn, the prime minister clarified his remarks. watch this. >> in 2009 you said you supported a peace deal that would recognize a palestinian
9:01 pm
state but the day before tuesday's election you completely reversed that. why? >> i didn't. i didn't retract any of the things i said in my speech six years ago calling for a solution in which a demilitarized palestinian state recognizes a jewish state. i said the conditions for that today are not achievable for several reasons. the leader of the palestinians rejects consistently the acceptance of a jewish state. he's made a pack with hamas that calls for our destruction. any territory you withdraw from is taken by iran terrorists or by isis. the conditions are that we would vacate territory and instead of getting the two-state solution we could end up with a no-state
9:02 pm
solution. >> that's his explanation, but even that and others the prime minister gave did not satisfy the white house on this issue. in no uncertain terms. >> why is the u.s. second guessing the prime minister so much about his policy choices? it's not rare that politicians in the u.s. and israel flip flip on positions. >> ed what we have made clear is the president believes and this is the view of presi is a two-state solution is the best way to solve this issue. now our closest ally has indicated he is no longer committed to that solution. it means the united states needs to rethink our approach to these issues and that's what we're going to do. >> all this comes amid tense
9:03 pm
negotiations over iran's nuclear program. a program the west fears could produce weapons threatening israel and our allies. >> hey, martha. good evening to you. iran's negotiators for their part are demanding that sanctions end immediately after a deal is concluded but that's problematic for secretary of state john kerry because he's holding steady to the principle that any sanctions that have to be concluded can only happen after iran accounts for its nuclear activity and that they also submit to strict international oversight. the president used her address to take his pitch for a deal directly to the iranian people. >> for decades, our nations have been separated by mistrust and fear. now it is early spring. we have a chance a chance to make progress that will benefit our countries and the world for
9:04 pm
many years to come. >> okay so that sounds like that would be the right thing for the president to say, but as you can well imagine gop leaders on the hill are not so happy with that. now they're pushing back against the president for taking his message directly to the iranian people. that comes with a very stern warning. listen to lindsey graham. >> if you go to the security council and you try to bypass the congress to get this deal approved and not come to your own congress, you're going to risk congress getting out of the united nations. >> seems like a line in the sand if you ask me. the negotiations, martha, are expected to continue next week as the deadline draws ever closer closer and we should expect to
9:05 pm
get readout by secretary john kerry later this weekend. >> he is back from a trip to egypt entering the president there. good to see you. there's a lot of talk that the president hasn't reached out to benjamin netanyahu. what we're hearing now is that it didn't go all that way. >> the president wanted benjamin netten nten nanyahu not to be re-elected. he has a choice to make. is israel going to be an ally of the united states or are we going to treat it as if it were an adversary? what i find very strange about
9:06 pm
it is nothing the prime minister said should be particularly controversial. to say you want a two-state solution in theory with the idea that the palestinian state will resemble canada is one thing, but to resemble somalia, that's another thing. >> there are reports tonight that president obama left the prime minister with, quote, the impression the united states will abandon israel at the u.n. the prime minister of israel saying i have no feeling that the u.s. will have my back if the united states goes to the u.n. to get a deal with the negotiation in iran. that's pretty stunning. >> i think it is bad politics.
9:07 pm
to say you're going to be putting hillary clinton to this choice, do you agree with the president's approach to israel or do you reject it? i suspect she would say i reject it. it's bad policy. in foreign policy mackthis president is doing the opposite. he is sending bad messages to our allies. you have an administration that can turn on them on the basis of a single remark that a prime minister may utter in a heat of a political campaign. >> the president said to the people of iran that it is springtime between iran and the united states. let's not miss this opportunity. it may not come again in terms of reaching a deal. what's your reaction to that?
9:08 pm
>> look, this is what's really strange about it. this is a president who betrayed the hopes of young iranians in 2009 when they had a revolution, when they were holding up signs if -- in english saying help us. now he's speaking to them. the truth is the people he needs to be speaking to are the leadership of iran. in iran those young people don't have any say in the political process because of the regime that wants to acquire nuclear weapons, dominate the region and get the best deal with the west. >> that is such a great point. in 2009 there was an uprising in the streets. students, as you say, were asking for our help, asking for the support of the united states to overthrow an oppressive regime that they lived under and
9:09 pm
the president said no. the president is more concerned about the leadership in iran than he is about the people of iran. is that an unfair take on this? >> that's absolutely right. in 2009 the president made it very clear that he did not envision any possibility of the iranians overthrowing des domestically a regime that has terrorized them for a long time. this deal will only consolidate their grip on their own people in their region. i don't think iran is going to become a weaker regime. >> i said it was very surprising that the president and the administration seems to upset about bibi's flip-flop on this when it doesn't feel like they have been working hard on getting a peace agreement
9:10 pm
between israel and the palestinians. >> john kerry worked towards it. the palestinians ended up walking away from those talks going unilaterally to the u.n. people have memories that last summer hamas launched a war against israel. why is israel expected to say we're going to try to reach a peace deal with hamas. >> thank you very much. good to see you. >> good to be here. hillary clinton said the private server she uses is going to stay private. she insisted on that. today there are new serious demands to force that issue. what congress and the court can do to get hillary's e-mails. we'll tell you. and twin terror attacks as isis moves into two new

countries. is afghanistan next? general jack keen on that and the president's suggest that president bush is to blame. plus the new fallout of a liberal writer comes clean saying the hands up don't shoot moment in ferguson was built on a lie. howard curts responds live. >> others said they nobody told us to expect it... intercourse

the server contains personal communications from my husband and me and i believe i have met all of my responsibilities and the server will remain private. >> private? that was hillary clinton ten days ago making her first public appearance on the exploding scandal over the unprecedented exclusive u.s. of a private e-mail server at her own home while she was secretary of state. if she doesn't turn over the server, they're threatening to take this whole issue to court.
9:15 pm
hi, ed. >> good to see you, martha. this is a legal and political showdown with some very interesting elements. the first is the timing of this. republican trey gowdy giving the former secretary of state a deadline of april 3rd. that's right around the time she is expected to launch an exploratory committee for president. gowdy saying the reason he wants to get at this server is because as you noted at that news conference she had said no official e-mails were deleted. these were just e-mails about yoga, bridesmaids dresses. gowdy wants to know was there any official business in those e-mails. he said he needs a server for, quote, a thorough investigation into what happened before, during, and after the attacks in benghazi benghazi, libya.
9:16 pm
the house of the other interesting and final element here is who received the letter for secretary clinton. it was david kendall who is the attorney representing her. very prominent lawyer here in washington from williams and connolly. you remember him representing president bill clinton during the impeachment process. >> thank you very much. >> thank you. >> joining us now editor at "the national review." trey gowdy has been hanging on to this like a dog. what can he actually get from her? >> well, he could in theory subpoena the server and the house in theory eventually could enforce that subpoena itself if
9:17 pm
the attorney general is not going to enforce it. >> it would need the full house, right? >> yes, and this would be an enormous political and legal battle. hillary's attitude is i got it. come and get this server. she knows the attorney general is going to protect her. if she really had a clean conscious her, she would say i don't have a problem with the state department inspector general. i'll hand it over. all they'll see is private correspondence with bill over yoga and personal matters. >> that would be the natural thing to do. if you weren't concerned about it take a look. that's not the tactic she seems to be taking. >> turning over the server would make this whole exercise for her pointless because the reason she
9:18 pm
set up the private e-mail and the private server was for her to have complete control of her own record. >> she didn't want louie gohmert going through her stuff. can't everybody understand that? >> that's a version of the truth. she doesn't want anyone that might cast a hostile eye on these things to see them. that's not the spirit or the letter of the law. >> doesn't seem like there's any indication she's going to change anything about that with these threats. big piece today in "the wall street journal." some people think this story could percolate to be even bigger than the e-mail story. do you think this could hurt her and why? >> absolutely. this just stinks to high heaven, this method of operating. you have this foundation that's extremely important to a former president and now a potential
9:19 pm
future president and you have these foreign donors giving money to that foundation. >> i don't know how you can have a global initiative and not have countries involved in it. they've been doing it for years. they claimed when she was in the state department they stopped accepting money. >> they continued to accept money from some foreign countries that had already been given money. i don't understand the hard line distinction there is, but these people are intimately connected to foreign government. i think one of the upshots of her press conference is the press didn't accept her story.
9:20 pm
the press has seized this matter. you have half a dozen reporters seeing seeing seeing pulitzer prizes on this thing. >> it's going to come back around if she does run. in debates, rand paul gave us an inkling of what he might come book at back at her. hillary clinton must return the money that she took from countries that oppress women. how could you take money from countries that have human rights violations? it is going to clearly come back to haunt her in that environment

developing tonight we can report that the terror army known as isis is gaining some serious ground. they have now claimed responsibility for twin bombings in the capital of yemen today that killed or injured hundreds of people including children. that claim has yet to be confirmed. if isis was behind this operation, it work mark the terrorist group's first major attack in yemen. we're getting new information on the apparent isis attack we watched unfold in tunisia this week. they fired on a group of innocent tourists at a museum. isis may be close to spreading to afghanistan as well. >> martha, good evening. many officials told me today's twin suicide bombings in the

capital sanaa and then a second pair of bombers repeating the exercise at a second mosque constitutes the worst mass casualty attack on civilians in yemen's modern history. scores of children are among the victims. a group claiming to be the yemeni branch of isis claimed responsibility and yemeni officials believe that because al qaeda denied any role in the attack and typically takes pains to prevent civil casualties. if isis did carry out the attacks, it would prove that the group's geographic reach is expanding. >> it does appear that these kinds of claims are often made

but it is hard to see it. >> you're absolutely right. obviously there's a plan to reclaim the territory in iraq. some of that has been unfolding before our eyes. the iranians are obviously leading the effort. if they continue to lead the effort we run the very real risk of losing iraq to the iranians. there is no plan to defeat isis in syria. this administration does not have any plans to do that. there's no ground force to do that. they're deferring that to another administration which means the killing the brutality, the barbarism, the plan to reach out to countries outside of their caliphate like they're doing and because we're not impeding their ability to run that headquarters and defeating them in syria, they are able to do this.
9:36 pm
>> you are the architect of the surge in iraq which was hugely successful at the time. you say if we wanted to eliminate isis from this area, we could do it. how would you do it? >> to reclaim iraq, we have to strengthen the hand of the local indigenous forces. lots of special forces on the ground with our people. apache helicopters, classifyied forces going after their leadership. if that doesn't work we would to introduce u.s. combat troops on the ground. in syria, i'm absolutely convinced the countries that border syria would come in to deal with isis in syria if we made an attempt to do something with assad. if we took his power away and changed momentum. that's what they have asked us to do. then we could put together on

arab and turkish coalition. that is something i believe will happen, but it will be a follow-on to this administration. we don't have to take our time. war is a test of wills and this isis organization, martha territory is everything to them, which means they have to defend it. as much as that is their strength to the world, it is their major military vulnerability vulnerability. it plays into the hands of the strength of the united states and our allies to do that in a very aggressive, for overwhelming manner as we have done world war ii korea, and in iraq back in 2004. >> general, i can tell listening to you that you -- when you watch these atrocities that are being carried out on the ground children women, people being
