alibi. is it safe to assume that you have questions as well? >> no i have spoken to scott many times. scott is such a loving person for laci. if you knew scott you wouldn't have any doubts. >> plenty of doubt in my mind at the time covering the investigation scott's alibi seems implausible after telling everyone he had gone golfing when did he go fishing so far from mow dest taw on san francisco bay 90 miles. there are lots of rivers in between. it's not unheard of for avid fishermen to make this drive. he has proof he was here. but his alibi is far from air tight. while he has a receipt a time stamped receipt before his boat. he paid 5 bucks to buy himself an alibi. >> our thought it was possible

he was discovered and seen there and that's the reason he changed his motive his alibi from golfing to going fishing that day. >> once committed to his fishing alibi he tries to per respect it with a series of phone calls on the long drive home. >> showered with i love yous and things like that. seemed the ideal thing for a husband to say to his wife but when they have been married for five years had a baby on the way it was sincere but it didn't seem like it. it is a message you would leave for somebody to take the focus off of you. >> craig rivera they received calls from scott the day he goes miss -- she goes missing. >> this wereere were multiple messages for scott. have you seen laci? this was a period of 2 and a half hours. >> kristin talked to her. one thing i pointed out to the

authorities from the messages it took him a long time to come listen to him it was clear there was noise, tire noise, road noise. he was driving every time he had called. >> he was on the road when he was calling it? >> right. >> probable before i driving back from berkeley arena. >> with scott in his fishing element they find something disturbing. evidence of five homemade cement anchors of which only one remains. >> there were at least five rings perfectly round rings on that trailer with cement around them as if there was a bucket. we only found one anchor. if you make five anchors and you only can find one, when the body is recovered right close to where he has told me he was fishing and recovered with no head and no hands and no feet, i can guess they might have been

on the body not in the water. >> the day after christmas 2002 they offer a cash reward leading to laci's safe return. >> we want to know where she is safe and what happened to us. >> when i mitt her cops grow evermore wear re. >> he went over to the house with a search warrant we were going to process the house as a crime scene. when we go over there we are going to ask for permission to do that. scott wouldn't give us permission to search his house. >> scott looks at me and says al, where is the truck? that's what he says to me. i said where is the trust? we are trying to find your wife. >> these were the things that were strange we didn't see it with other family members and

friends. everybody else was cooperative to a fault except scott. >> scott takes a special interest in the search and berkeley marina. >> he's coming back to the scene of the crime as far as i am concerned and checking it out and making sure we are not finding something. >> there was one time when there was a false alert when the searchers had found something and the buzz wasn't -- it was possibly a body but of course it turned out to be an anchor. there was a phone call made to scott. of course it went over to his voice mail because he screened his calls. when he was told it wasn't laci it was just an anchor we could hear him on the tape do a subdued whistle like... >> it is mom about quarter to 1. just wanted you to know i got a call from ron howard he's at the arena it was an anchor. of course we knew it wasn't lacy i just wanted you to know.
