morning. is it totally innocent or completely disrespectful? it's not an easy answer. we're going to report you're going to decide. we'll read it out loud because mornings are better with friends. >> this is kelly osborn and you're watching "fox and friends." thank you, kelly. welcome to our wednesday. look who's here? >> it's great to be here with you. >> the tragedy crash yesterday in the french alps and we will be going over that today. >> let's get to that fox news alert. happening right now. officials frantically working to uncover answers from yesterday's deadly germanwings plane crash. they have the flight data recorder in hand and are in the process of retrieving its crucial information, including the pilot's final words. >> amy kellogg is here with the latest. good morning to you. >> hi. i'm at the staging center.

we're hearing another report unconfirmed that it may have taken the plane 18 minutes to fall. now, no confirmation. i think still -- it's a slow descent and the issue still is why was there no contact between the pilots and control. that is why this voice data recorder which is in paris right now is critical. the transportation secretary here saying there is one minute they're particularly interested in between 10:30 and 10:31 yesterday morning. they are going to release findings later this afternoon, but in the meantime here in the alps, there is a lot of activity between five and seven helicopters making the trip from this point to the crash site. which is 6,000 feet high. we just spoke to the man who is coordinating the work between those helicopters. he said that it doesn't even look like the scene of a plane crash. in other words, the debris is so pulverized they have not begun yet the process of bringing

bodies and body parts back here. what they need to do he said is to photograph the scene as best they can. he said it's actually not that large. he said 9,000 feet by about 8,000 feet. i'm doing the translation from meters. he said it's the it rain -- it's a crevice so it is not a neat terrain. they didn't work through the night. they were equipped to work with night vision. but because there were no survivors they felt it was best to leave it. they had five military personnel camping out at the site to security it. nobody can get there, but they need to keep an eye on it. this will be the reconstruction that will help investigators figure out what ultimately happened yesterday. >> we thank you very much. there was a news report yesterday that said the number of the germanwings pilots didn't want to fly any of the flights yesterday because they were worried about -- there was a repair on the front wheel

housing on the jet the day before that crashed. they wanted to make sure the mechanics had done things correctly. it had been grounded for an hour the day before. is there a connection? lufthansa says no. >> we were going out yesterday as we were trying to piece together what was happening. all we do is see pieces. here's what we do know about flight 9525 that took off. no signs of a distress call. originally heard there was. now we know there wasn't. they called it a controlled descent. the plane also -- checked the day before, but may have been grounded before. but may have been grounded. they had issues with it. but they felt as though they were solved obviously and put it in the air. >> it had been grounded for an hour the day before to replace the nose wheel landing gear door. 150 people killed including two babies, six crew members. 16 german teens, and two teachers flying home from an

exchange program in spain. also, we understand -- according to the daily news in new york city, two opera stars killed as well. >> hopefully we will get more information. more details on what caused this tragedy. >> they have two black boxes a voice data recorder and then the information thing. >> the black box that is actually orange apparently. >> they got the one with the voice. we will know whether or note was any conversation inside the cockpit during that descent. the problem is according to the investigators however -- they had promised they would tell us later today what's on it. apparently it's banged up pretty good. don't know what they will be able to get out of it. >> they said the pieces are pulverized. you wouldn't know it was a crash site. >> in 2014 330 accident. 227 plane accidents in the skies, 17 dead. what is going on with air

it is on the race for 2016 this week. officially with senator ted cruz entering early. how will it impact those considering a presidential run like louisiana governor bobby jindal. >> he's here. >> i had no idea what you were getting at. he saw ted cruz's announcement on monday. are you kicking yourself? >> here's what i've been doing that i don't think any other potential candidate has been doing. a lot of focusing on polling consulting. i created a think tank called america next to think about specifically what should the next president do. we put out detailed policiesment i'm the only one that's put out a plan how do you repeal obamacare.

a plan for education school choice, a plan for foreign policy. how do we invest in the pentagon, the military how do we repair the foreign policy mistakes of this president. we need a president who wants to do something not just be something. we put a lot of threat into what the next president should do. >> you've got a tremendous executive experience a lot of popular appeal. people know what they're getting in and out, in you. you are able to distinguish yourself between candidates because you have a level of experience. what would you say makes the case for you? >> thank you. i do tend to think -- i've saying this for a while should be a conservative somebody who has a proven track record. in louisiana we have cut our budget 26%, over 30,000 fewer state employees. we proposed a balanced budget without raising taxes. the left thinks you should raise taxes.

i think this election is about the future. people want to hear a candidate that's going to say i'm going to take on the threat of radical islamic terrorism. we need a candidate that says we're going to cut the size of government, balance the budget. we need a candidate that is going to say to get rid of obamacare. we don't need to keep any of t. we need a candidate that says here is how we restore the american dream for our children. in energy it's not exploration jobs, good paying manufacturing jobs. we need a conservative that will push back when the democrats come at them. i think we can win this election. we need to win this election not just for the republican party, for the sake of our country. we can't afford four more years. we need a major course correction. >> you have to be part of the main stream media, talk to them. as ted cruz said two nights ago, he said republicans for the most

good morning baerkeverybody. the fbi joining the desperate search for a northern california woman who is believed to be kidnapped for ransom. police say the 30-year-old was forcibly taken from her boyfriend's home monday morning in vallejo which is new sacramento. the search is focusing on a waterfront area. dogs are using sonar and scouring the waters as her father prays for her safety. >> here i am. it's like a bad dream and i can't wake up. i'm terrified about what's going on with my daughter. i'm in fear as we're standing here of what could be happening to her. >> now, her boyfriend witnessed the kidnapping but did not call police for several hours. police say he is not a suspect. millionaire murder suspect robert durst may be linked to another disappearance a college freshman from more than 40 years

older in life. your dad passed away in 2009. that's a blitz at any age. how do you deal with that? >> i had a premonition that he was going to die. i started thinking he has been ill some. maybe he's going to die someday. i never thought of him they way because he's larger in life. i went into that thought and i started to mourn and cry. two weeks and cry i found out he had cancerment that gave us four months for a departure. we were blessed with four months. i had amazing trips to my mom and dad's home. i wrote a three page letter of everything i wanted to thank him. i read it to him and mom. we were so blessed to say those things. we had intimate wonderful time. he said i don't want my legacy to see politics. i don't want it to be football. it's my family and how much god

some travellers do have dual nationalities. so that is possibly the reason for the delay in us learning about americans and brits and the different people who have been victims of this horrible tragedy. it's starting to cloud over here. i don't know what that is going to do to the recovery efforts. we are expecting two things to happen fairly shortly. in about an hour or so the german chancellor, angela merkel, the spanish prime minister and the french president hollande will come to this town and they are going to meet with some the family members of the victims here in a make shift chapel which was put together in a local gymnasium. in the meantime, we also hear that the voice recorder the first black box that was found did have some damage. it had some problems. it hasn't been clear to what extent those problems would be a massive impediment to finding

out what the pilot's final words had been. now we understand there will be information from that finding of the black box in a few hours' time 4:00 local. apparently, something has been gleaned from that. if voices were in fact, picked up by the voice recorder, as should be the case, then this investigation is likely to proceed quite quickly. but the work on the mountains is complicated. we don't expect bodies or body parts to be recovered today. right now, they're trying to photograph the scene in order to have an idea for reconstructive purposes of what happened. they need to map out with the bodies are. that is a grim work there doing that. back to you. >> you've got that right. amy kellogg in the french alps. we thank you very much. are they ruling out any type of terror? >> they have. >> when they see in pulverized and the biggest piece is the size of a small car. you know the side of that jet, anyone who has been on a plane

that big. you wonder what happened to force that quick descent. why were they on this path, why were they unable tool communicate. would any pilot choose to end it all there? >> experts say if the plane's angle of attack sensor was iced up. apparently that has happened on this particular jet. what happens is the plane thinks it's about to stall and it causes the nose to pitch down. which would explain that anywhere 8 to 18 minutes descent going into the mountains. that would make sense. it could be the loss of cabin pressure. with the voice recorders, they would know whether or not anybody was talk. >> they would be responding in real time to what they're seeing and viewing on the cockpit, on the instrument panel and how they were trying to trouble shoot that and get altitude underneath the plane to get it back up. in that particular plane that model, there is complications in terms of the computer -- >> it's hard to turn off -- >> the automation system.

yourself. how important is it to communicate with the tower? >> when something goes wrong the last thing you want to do is talk to people. you want to solve the problem. some of the major airlines in our country if they had had a catastrophic pressurization loss for instance the first thing that happens regardless of who was flying the captain takes over. they put their masks on. once they put their masks on they're like fighter jet pilots at that point. they can breathe and see what's going on. then they get to fixing the problem. the fact we heard from this airplane, tells me two things, the crew was incapacitated or they were so busy deal ing with a catastrophic problem that the last thing they felt like doing was talking to someone on the ground. >> because they can't help? >> they can't help. i can tell you about a story flying an airplane and had a huge explosion the last thing i wanted to do was talk to

house lawn, that was embarrassed. to armed fence jumpers going through the front doors. who can forget the columbian prostitution scandal? when you thought it couldn't get any worse. new video has just emerged showing two agents, allegedly druj crashing into a security barricade during the investigation into a suspicious package. that's a crime scene they're at right now. peter johnson, jr. joins us now. >> i'm afraid this does put our president in danger. that's the question of the day a lot of americans are asking. yesterday before the house committee we heard a timeline of failure. let's look at this together. you'll be amazed and shocked to see what the secret service didn't do and did do. march 4th. 10:24 a woman drove her vehicle through a security gate outside the white house and left a package claiming to be a bomb. agents were unable to apprehend her. for 11 minutes they did nothing. then they called the metropolitan police department bomb squad. 11 minutes, no call.

they don't mention it's a bomb. only a suspicious package. >> but she said it was a bomb. >> she said it was a bomb. for the next 17 minutes traffic continues and pedestrians walk within feet of that potential bomb. you can see that there. 30 minutes after the initial incident two secret service agents allegedly drunk after attending a party and drive through that secured area, push aside barriers and drive within feet of this potential bomb. now, around the same time a half hour later, the secret service finally issued an all points bulletin. look out for the suspect's vehicle. local law enforcement finds that vehicle, follows her but then mistakenly called off when the secret service says that's not the car. >> man. >> hour and 20 minutes later the bomb squad rendered the scene safe. three days later the suspect is

arrested 90 miles away. then after that the head of the secret service says he learns about the incident based on anonymous e-mails. >> we depend on them to protect the president and other people. for them to keep him in the dark, you know the people on the second layer of the hierarchy at the secret service didn't tell the boss for five days because this was embarrassing. >> democrats and republicans are outraged. elijah cummings of that committee is outraged. they are pointing fingers at each other instead the bad guys. we found out the secret service will not turn over copies of the tape they have to congress. we saw the metropolitan police department tape. and the policy used to be that they erased tapes within 72 hours. tapes relating to this incident were erased even though we knew it was not one but two crime
