on friday. burst into a service during the deadly assault. kenya is calling for the nation to observe three days of mourning. the savage attack took place at a university in southeastern kenya, 350 miles from the capital nairobi. survivors coming forward now. including a young man who describes in graphic detail how he played dead to make it out alive. >> i am only man come away from all of the -- orphanage. the blood of my colleagues. i have the blood to be on my lunch and i -- [ inaudible ]. >> another survivor describing how she says she hid in a wardrobe while the terrorists stormed the university looking for victims. she hid herself with clothing

and said her roommates hid under beds but the militants found them. >> if you don't know it, then -- if you don't know -- then you lie down. then you go to other side. >> rescuers did not find her until after the attack. she was so scared and hungry and thirsty she drank body lotion to get through the ordeal. john has more on the ordeal. >> reporter: we are hearing how the al shabab militants commanded how the students come out of their dorm room and live or stay inside and die. we know those who came out were killed any way. now the terror group is warning of even more attacks. they say that no amount of preparation or safety measures can stop them from what they call another, quote, blood bath. but kenya's president is vowing to fight terrorism until the ends.

he says everybody responsible for the attack will face justice. >> let us all just take a moment to remember those who died and pray for eternal repose of their souls. let us pray for those who are injured and for solace to all affected families. today villages and towns throughout kenya are in mourning. >> reporter: kenyan officials have issued $220,000 reward for the man accused of coordinating the attack. investigators say he was one a teacher in an islamic school in kenyan. kenyan officials say they caught three men trying to cross into somalia and two others, according to officials, were arrested at the college. then there are those four gunmen who the military killed during the attack. authorities placed their bodies in the back of a pickup truck and put them on display for about 2,000 people in the center of town. one witness applauded the move

saying the government wanted quote, to win the hearts of the people and clear up any doubts that the attackers are dead. the militants, by the way, claim a massacre was revenge for killings at the hands of kenyan troops fighting the rebels in somalia. thursday' attack was the worst in kenya since the u.s. embassy was bombed in 1998 killing more than 200 people and pope francis called them an act of senseless brutality. now there are reports that security warnings at the school were ignored last year leading some to question whether kenyans security forces are up to the task of fighting back against those militants. >> john hudy, thank you very much. a judge denied bail to a philadelphia woman accused of planning to travel overseas to join the islamic state and make herself a martyr. investigators say she messaged an isis fighter in syria who asked her to be part of a

martyrdom operation. the feds say she is 30 years old. court documents show she tweeted messages in support of isis and tried to raise money online and once bought a plain ticket to barcelona and gave herself a nickname called lanana. they say the suspects planned to build a homemade bomb and use it for an a bomb like the one at the boston marathon. what else do we know? >> she may have gone by young linus online but she is 30 years old a resident of philly and active on twitter talking about her hopes to become an isis fighter and a martyr for the cause. she was arrested yesterday and now in federal custody charged with attempt to go provide material support to a terrorist

organization and could get 15 years in prison if convict. the criminal complaint alleges she did online research on indirect travel routes to turkey which is a common transit point for hopeful isis fighters. in one tweet she reposted a photo of a small male child with an ak-47 assault rifle around his neck with the following statement. in another tweet, she allegedly wrote the following. now, thomas will be back in court this coming wednesday for a detention hearing. well, of course, bring you those details when we get them. >> what more are we learning with the two women arrested in new york? >> it just goes on pap few days before the philly arrest. these two who were once roommates were arrested for conspiracy to use a weapon for mass destruction against person

or properties in the u.s. court documents say one had possession of multiple propane tanks and instructions how to turn them into explosive devices with plans to detonate. the other woman expressed violent jihadist ideology and obsessed with pressure cookers and told an undercover officer if they were arrested they would try to confront and shoot police. authorities say the public was never in danger as it was a lengthy undercover operation. according to a new u.n. report released this week the number of fighters leaving home to join al qaeda and isis has spiked to more than 25,000 from over on 100 nations and the number of foreign terrorists worldwide increased by 71% from 2014 to last month. >> that is probably one of the strongest ways to communicate is

par the part of hezbollah called the deal quote a victory that makes iran, quote, a member of the nuclear club. that's according to a lebanese newspaper "the daily star." >> is the obama administration likely to take up israeli's cause with iran? what is the deal there? >> reporter: no. . a state department spokeswoman says the outline for a nuclear agreement with iran does not deal with quote, any other issues, nor should it. in his weekly radio address today the president asserted this potential agreement cuts off hi-of-every pathway that iran could do to develop another nuclear weapon. >> inspectors will have access to iran's nuclear program because iran will face more inspections than any other country in the world. if iran cheats, the world will know it. if we see something suspicious we will inspect it. so this deal is not based on trust. it is based on unprecedented verification.

police are investigating after a massive brawl broke out at the grand opening of a fat tuesday daiquiri bar in a "the new york times" casino. ew! that's not good! police say about two dozen people started fighting while nearly 300 onlookers tried to get out of the way. the rowdy patron hurled chairs and punches and broke a lot of stuff. the violence reportedly started because customers were angry about the long lines to on get daiquiris. the audacity. three people arrested and run officer injured his hand and hospitalized and several others suffered minor injuries in these brawls. police say it cost several

killer coming to an end in chicago. camron taylor is back in custody three days after he broke out of jail in eastern illinois. police say the 23-year-old staged a late night ambush on a prison guard and strangling until he was unconscious and stealing his uniform and keys and suv. authorities apprehended him on the south side of chicago while respond to go a call about a suspicious person. >> regular routine. seeing the offender, he ran and we gave chase and placed him into custody. we had no idea initially when he was. >> taylor is expected to face additional charges and could include attempted murder on the attack on the prison guard. an appeal after a judge

ordered the state to provide gender reassignment surgery for a transgender inmate who is serving a life sentence for murder. on thursday, u.s. district judge ruled that withholding the surgery violates 51-year-old michelle newsworth rights. but they say it would be an injustice not only to taxpayers footing the bill but also to her victims. will what is the justification for giving norsworthy free sex change surgery? >> reporter: good evening julie. let's start with the judge. he says it's in the public interest. norsworthy was placed in cust by in 1987 sentenced to life with the possibility of parole after

convicted of murder in the second degree. now u.s. district court judge in san francisco has ruled she has a medical condition where your sex at birth conflicts with the gender you identify with. the judge stating she has established she is suffering and likely to continue to suffer unnecessary pain if she is denied the surgery. ruling that members of the lgbt community are now applauding. >> this decision is historic in that it confirms that it's unlawful to deny central treatment to transgender people. >> reporter: some legal scholars say even if you disagree with this, the judge's ruling upholds the eighth amendment. >> if there is a serious medical need and the government shows deliberate indifference to that need it violates his eighth amendment right against cruel and inhumane treatment.

it's akin to somebody sickle cell anemia and not being treated for it. >> reporter: the department of corrections say they are considering an appeal at this point. we should point out there is also a similar case in massachusetts right now. the lower courts have denied allowing the inmate to get the surgery. that inmate is now taking it to supreme court. >> what else are critics saying about this, will? >> reporter: well they are saying this could have a major impact ethically and economically since taxpayers would be on the hook for a lot of money. it could be up to $100,000. >> the law has been pretty clear. the courts throughout the united states have ruled that hormone therapy which the california taxpayers have generously paid for ruffle 15 years is constitutionally adequate. to go to the level of required surgery, a taxpayer expense is not required. >> reporter: california minority leader kristin olsen tweeting

the suspects make their move at this busy car wash in smyrna. you can see a woman jump on the hood of her car as the car-jacker speeds out of the parking lot and that is when this man, a city worker who was washing his car, pulled out his gun and shot the suspect in the shoulder! >> the guy that got shot, he was, like falling out of the car! and he was holding his chest and heshivering and shaking and jump on the ground. >> the bottom slid off the hood as the car slowed down. three other suspects got away in this red minivan as the car wash manager praised the shooter who saved the victim's car and maybe even her life. >> quick thinking on his part. oregon. newly released surveillance video and 911 calls from a vicious assault at a holiday inn nearly portland. >> oh my god! oh my god! call the police! i can't get him!

in alabama a man is free after spending 30 years on death row. 58-year-old anthony ray hinton was convicted in the 1985 birmingham murder of two fast foot restaurant workers. they ruled he had in'counsel but prosecutors moved to dismiss the case when modern forensic testing failed to show the bullets that came from hinton's gun. hinton is reminding everyone he is not the only one who has suffered over the years. >> i want to say to my victim friends, i will continue to pray for you just as i have for 30 years. a misjustice to me. >> oh my goodness. hinton also saying everybody who played a part in sending him to death row will answer to god. he says all investigators had to do was check his gun to know he was innocent. it seems like people are either for them or on against
