tahmooressi. here is another way. go to gretawire.com for details. we all have to do it. deadline is coming up. do it right now. she has influence with results. that's my off-the-record comment tonight. preif yesesly on "red eye." >> the people on tv are better, we are better people jie. they are hoping he did have a tumor. >> may have to stap an epi pen into her beating heart. >> i told the producers of the show i don't have a criminal past. we all lie. >> if there was a body that regulated tv news none of us would be here right now. >> and now the thrilling conclusion. >> welcome to "red eye." i am rock -- rob long. i am here with the national review reporter and her impressive eye wear. and as always we have actress singer model quad quadruple
12:01 am
threat. it is joanne nosuchunsky. and we call him tv's andy levey but really he is everyone's andy levey. it is andy levey, everyone. >> not really. >> and next to pea is -- next to me is actor and writer and you can see him on comedy central. well -- welcome. >> thank you for having me. >> a block. the lede. that's the first story. >> they got what they deserved. a teddy bear. the university of michigan canceled the screening of "american sniper" after almost 300 people complained. instead padding ton will be shown. yes paddington the movie based on the book. students accused the school of tolerating dangerous muslim anti-propaganda by showing "american sniper" they complained middle eastern characters in the film do not
12:02 am
let an ounce of hue machine tee and it is unsafe to middle eastern and north african students. the group that oversees the activities express deeper regret saying while our intent was to show a film the impact of the con at the present time was harmful and made students feel unsafe and unwelcome at our program. here is what students can look forward to instead of "american sniper." >> i would like to see that. katherine is the school messing with them. they don't want to see "american sniper" so they have to watch a teddy mare movie -- teddy bear movie? >> the kids need to shut up. if you feel unsafe with a movie playing at your school you will be more unsafe as you enter the real world. i don't want to do this. i want to watch the bear pouf vee. your job is not safe.
12:03 am
your friends aren't safe. i guess they can marry each other or something. that bear makes me feel unsafe. >> the bear is creepy. 300 people complain. don't you think that is the majority of students -- maybe i am being optimistic that they are like really? >> i am a little upset because this story has a ton of spoilers. i dent see the movie yet. >> but i think they should be protesting paddington because it glorifies bears and bears kill people. it is ridiculous, right? bears kill people. >> you can make it up on this show. >> paddington bear is a creature that wears a rain coat and does not wear pants. the last time you wore a rain coat and no pants i felt unsafe. >> you shouldn't have watched my movie. >> that's a good point. >> we have replaced we won't
12:04 am
see that to you can't show that. they are two completely different things. the university campus organization says we were planning to show american sniper in a forum that shows dialogue and reflection. more info to come. i don't know what that means. thoit college in general is a place that provided inappropriate space for dialogue and reflection. these days apparently you need a separate forum to do that. in america movies don't make you unsafe. in other countries youtube videos can make you unsafe, but not in america. you are not unsafe here. i also argue movies -- i am not putting "american sniper" in this category but there are movies that are disturbing. they should be shown as historical documents. the first nation celebrated the resurgeons of the -- the resurgeons of the klan.
12:05 am
>> they also say none of the muslims are given an ounce of humanity. there are at least two ounces of humanity. >> so joanne how hard is life going to connection these kids in the ass when they leave college? >> very hard definitely. it is sad because they aren't appreciating the arts. that's very important in the real world. they are a vehicle in which self-absorbed victims throw themselves in front of. >> i see what you are doing there. i didn't actually see what you did there. everybody complains about college kids. don't american adults want to be covered up? >> i think it is more because they find something new to be offended at then nobody would
12:06 am
have noticed it is offensive. you don't know enough about muslim culture to know you are supposed to be off fended by this. look how cool i am. you're right. let's can sell it. everyone is trying to get out uh uh -- out offended. then you are the smart person and it well ruin everything. >> at its core i thought "american sniper" was an anti-war movie. i thought it was -- as i think a lot of clint eastwood films are, it is pro-warrior and anti-war. it is a big difference. most of the people complaining about the movie probably haven't seen the movie. >> they haven't seen the movie and they are stupid. i saw it and i thought it was anti-war. >> the video games the college kids are playing a anti-war. >> these kids don't have friends so they are siting in their room playing war video
12:07 am
games. >> you can do that and have friends. >> real friends. >> are you my best friend. >> in a previous era, these kids would be fighting a pointless war over useless terrain somewhere and millions get killed. that's how we thin the herd. do we march these kids off to -- let's go invade an empty country. let's invade the western part of australia. >> without a draft none of these kids are going. what you are saying is we need to bring the draft back. >> those are your words. >> i'm saying that's what you are saying. that's clearly what you are saying. >> we didn't have this problem before. >> it wasn't cool. >> no college kids were in the 60s. >> i think the thing is now people are creating problems
12:08 am
where there aren't any because they want to feel significant. that's what it comes down to. >> at one point in the college career the dining hall stopped serving a kind of chicken finger that i really like. >> are you okay? >> no, i'm not. my friends and i got together and we got the chicken fingers back. >> very inspiring story. >> go millenials. >> joanne raises an interesting p oi nt. if you go back to the 60s they say what did you do this college? we shutdown the school for a month. we got them to stop providing war material and stuff like that. these days it is what did you do in college? we got them to not show a movie. >> we had a special room with pad had pillows in case you were upset. >> should he not get paid if he is in the 6th grade? he tied for first place in espn's march madness bracket challenge correctly predicting the sweet 16, the elite eight and the final four.
12:09 am
but because he is not 18 and used his dad's e-mail address to enter his picks he won't be included in a lottery for a chance to win $20,000 and a trip to maui like everyone else in the top 1% of the contest. said an espn spokesman he beat all of our commentators, all of the celebrities and all of the college experts. that's what max this so -- makes this so awesome. the prize is secondary. is the prize ever secondary? >> the prize is number one, baby. i am about that maui trip. >> is there a scenario where the prize is not first? >> why do people enter the contest? it is obviously not for sports. they want the trip. sports fans love going to places. i think it is ridiculous. when you are under 18 you can't do anything fun. you can't drink. you can't smoke. you can't get a prostitute until you are older. it is a shame. >> that's exactly what he will do now that this happened to him. he was probably so excited and
12:10 am
nobody wins because disappointing a kid -- >> okay katherine you are an arch conservative and you write for the far right review. he broke the rules. >> he broke the rules but it is their brand. it is all about the brand right now. a lot of people who are not as about the rules say it will make him look bad. and this kid was an entrepreneur. he said he had a skill. i am good at whatever bracketing. >> >> so you think he should get the money and the prize? >> i will not ruin my own brand by not saying this kid should not get a prize on national television. i am for the kid. >> joanne sports center offered a chance to host sports center. do you believe the opportunity to host a show for free --
12:11 am
>> why are you taking my jobs away? >> seriously. listen, this kid does not even deserve these 15 minutes of fame. he did something wrong. we are gonna get that guy who did that stuff. >> yeah, that guy. >> he will be stealing airplanes and robbing banks. >>richie-rich. >> no. >> you think it will affect his life? >> and the mother is the enabler in the family. she let him stay home from school so that he could talk on the phone to the espn hosts. maybe to the late night talk show hosts. that's not appropriate. that's the mother. >> let's ask an expert here. andy, you have lost every competition or contest you ever entered into. should this kid sue? >> i am with marie antoinette.
12:12 am
he should be arrested for underage gambling. >> he didn't gamble. >> brackettology is gambling. he broke the rules and that's the same thing as breaking the law. he should be thrown in prison and left to rot for the rest of his natural life. >> that's a good point. he can go to prison for life, but he can't go to maui jie. they have to stop disobeying the rules and have to stop doing better at their bract brackets than me. >> how did you do? >> i didn't do them this year which i'm glad because they would have sucked. >> the new bract set is i had one before. is this a chark ter building thing -- character building thing? to try something and then be told you don't have just reward isn't that part of life? >> i think so. if i wasn't made fun of and called ugly and stupid i
12:13 am
wouldn't be here. >> bullying is great. >> should he get something? >> he is getting attention. he should milk that. he should get on a cereal box. >> he has one of those little girlfriends. >> i don't understand why espn has not thought of it. he entered under his dad's e-mail. the dad should be eligible. the dad can put it in a trust for his kid and take his i had kid to -- take his kid to maui. what's the problem? from day one it should be the e-mail address and that's the person -- >> why doesn't he have a go fund me? >> we should start one right now. >> i don't care that much. >> they misquoted a poet and they didn't know it. this week the postal service issued a stamp offering the late maya angelo saying a bird
12:14 am
doesn't sing because it has an answer. it sings because it has a song. the only thing is that is not from maya angelo. it came from a 1967 collection of poems. the postal service was unaware of the error until "washington post" pointed it out. a spokesman said quote had we known about this issue beforehand we would have used one of her many other works. it held great meaning and she publicly identified with the popularity. as a long-time fan and a fellow poet i was deeply offended by the mistake. you have to be some kind of idiot to think that was a maya angelou quote. >> a bird doesn't sing because it has an answer. it sings because it has a song. >> i feel very embarrassed. i owe a deep apology and i'm
12:15 am
sorry for the offense. >> you are some kind of comedian. >> i think it says a mediocre comedian. >> is this a case of material theft? >> all of time, that's what we do. in the poetry world maya angelou used to steal from everyone. >> other poet s who not want to go on? >> take the stuff. >> she stole from everyone. you name it. >> she is dead, i guess. >> she is not dead. >> she is alive. >> she is dead inside. doesn't she say whatever i mean you printed the stamps already so what do you do? >> she should look at this as a positive.
12:16 am
we know who joan walsh anglin is. shame on me. this happens when i look on-line for my inspirational quotes i post on instagram and twitter. i often get the wrong source. it is usually credited to madonna or one of the help burns. hepburns. it happened to me. i tweeted out a tweet about my ceet, kitty kitty kitty can't you see, sometimes your meows hypnotize me. the drunk cat ladies stole it. they stole it and -- i am saying not a retweet but stole it as if it is their own. they sole it -- >> shame. >> and imagine how you would feel if that -- >> and i didn't get into the "washington post" about mine even though it is about the same. >> the original quote -- the
12:17 am
actual quote is a bird does president sing because he has an answer. he sings because he has a song. >> that is kind of boring. >> andy, do you have a song? >> i don't and that's why i don't sing. >> i don't think it matters maya angelou didn't say it. she could have said it. it is an accident. anyone could have said anything. they should have gone with this one. can we put that up please? i don't have friends. i got team a much better quote. very deep. very meaningful to people. i believe maya angelou had said that -- >> is that "fast and furious"? >> of course. >> were you surprised the post office made a mistake? >> i am never surprised when anyone makes a mistake. i don't have faith in humanity. it is unfortunate it is a forever stamp. i can't rid of those things. i hape had a book of them for
12:18 am
the past year and a half. >> right. >> i don't mail anything. >> i buy them and lose them. i find them in strange places. >> really? >> i don't know how to mail a letter. >> e-mail. >> they should have e-mailed everything. >> so poor joan anglin has no recourse. she has to sit there with the letters with someone else's name over her work and she doesn't get a piece of it? >> she should start a go fund me. it is all the rage right now. i want to be a victim so bad. i want to typed a way to make me a victim to get a go fund me. >> coming up, apple watch gets mixed reviews. not sure how they will fix it, but it will wow cheap, child labor. stick around.
12:22 am
will you be watching? the first reviews for the apple watch is out and the general consensus is it is cool, but unnecessary making it the andy levey of tech products. it helps filter out the noise of the world that tries to reach you through your phone. while the "new york times" notes there is just not that much to do on a tiny screen so you rarely feel yourself getting sucked in and lost. meanwhile some conservatives are keeping their own apple watch. thirtd -- 30 of them have pulled out of nigeria, qatar and saudi arabia. do you remember the movie "live and let die"? >> no. >> that's good. there is a moment roger moore wakes up and presses a button and it was a digital watch. it was the first one and people freaked out.
12:23 am
a year later digital watches they sold them at the grocery store for 30 bucks. are you an idiot if you buy an apple watch? >> first of all, thank you for calling me cool. >> you are cool of the -- you are cool. >> i don't know if you are an idiot. i am on the fence about buying one. it is first year tech. so you are buying something and it is not cheap. you are buying something that in a year is obsolete and i think that's apple's biggest problem. you are asking people to pay a lot of money that in a year is obsolete. they say that for the ipad. ipads are so expensive are you not replacing an ipad every year or even two years. you hold on to it so the sales are down. i may compromise and buy one and never wear it in public. seems like a good compromise. >> kasey the most expensive was like $every 17,000 -- $17,000. what does it say about a person who would spend that on a watch? >> just like a expensive car.
12:24 am
they have a giant -- >> are you going to buy one? >> i don't need one. i definitely want one. i don't think i could afford it. this is a big deal, i think, like the ipod or the ipad. >> not a big deal. a watch is never a big deal. >> this is big. you had moon landing color television penicillin. >> civil war. >> ended slavery. >> we have this apple watch, baby. it is going to be awesome. >> if that was the headline of the story i couldn't get over it. it is nice, but you shouldn't buy it. it reminded me of somebody that was like, i like you but i am not ready for a relationship. they never like you. >> if you were some super old wripgly -- wrinkly skinned
12:25 am
dude what was your reaction to that? what would be your reaction to that? >> outside your window playing music from the apple all the time. >> i would just be worried he is tracking me on gps. we all know i watch a lot of "law and order." i would never get this for myself. i am content with my iphone 5. i don't care to get the 6. i will get it when i am due for an upgrade. i am not paying extra. i do think in a few years we will say remember the apple watch? those flat bracelets from the 80s? those slap bracelets from the 80s? >> it was awesome though, remember those? >> andy is this a girl-guy thing? >> i apologize for being sexist. >> as has been pointed out, i am old.
12:26 am
>> the ladies are going to go for that. >> it is not that good looking. i think a guy would be less likely to care about that as a piece of jewelry and would think of it as more of a functional thing where a woman may think of it as a piece of jewelry. >> i think a lot of fitness forward females. fitness forward females like to monitor their stats. i think that's the female that would -- >> did you ever work at apple. maybe some glasses on. >> the interesting thing is there is a function that it will tell you if you have been sitting for too long. it will notify you. my first thought is cigarette smokers will love this. it is time for a cigarette break. >> thanks tim cook.
12:27 am
are these conservatives right? apple is being totally hipocritical? they are pulling out and making trouble in indiana and maybing trouble in the states and they are still doing business in places that actually punish homosexuality with death. >> everyone is hipocritical. it is a sensitive thing. nobody is saying how they really feel about it. it is more of a public relations thing. if they were being honest they say we want to be trendy and have people buy our watches. >> well i ordered a pizza and my sexuality never came up. >> believe it or not. of course it is. i don't think they really even care. >> you don't think they care? you don't think tim cook
12:28 am
cares? >> not about indiana specifically. i think it is tough because there is so many places that do not have spotless records for human rights issues. apple headquarters are in california. it is a state that started prop 8. are you going to pull out of everywhere? you have to pull out of america because a lot of people were not up to speed with these human rights issues. >> there is a huge difference between america and saudi arabia. >> right now. >> yes. the past hundred years. >> that's good. i can quit now while i'm ahead. >> there is the argument that i don't agree with the tim cook thing is like, well this is here at home. i'm more concerned with that. >> i can buy that but you hospital be selling -- if this is a big deal you shouldn't make a profit in countries
12:29 am
that criminalize sexuality. i you care more in america because you are american. we care more in new york about new york city laws than laws in des moines. you shouldn't be doing business in those countries. you have tim cook who is a hoe poe sexual and he -- homosexual and he will sell watches in saudi arabia. coming up, look who's talking now? john travolta speaks out on the scientology documentary. first, a word from our sponsor. >> tonight is brought to you by the rob long long board. get your rob long long board today.
12:33 am
oh my zenu. hbo's documentary going clear sigh -- scie debuted to 1.5 million viewers. but john travolta was not one of them. the "battlefield earth" star says he has no intention of watching the anti--ron l hubbard film. >> it has been so life saving to me and to my family, and i have been brought through a storm that has been insur mountable and it is so beautiful to me that i can't even imagine attacking it.
12:34 am
>> what was he was doing when he made that? it sounded weird. john shouldn't you speak out and confirm the allegations ? >> i haven't experienced anything that the hearsay has. why would i communicate something that wasn't true for me? it wouldn't make sense and nor would it for tom i would imagine. >> it sounds like he was trying to plug something in behind the sofa. >> he may have been on the spacestation. >> or a sea org. andy you are a scientologist. have you seen the movie? >> have i seen the movie which is prove i am not a scientologist. he is doing what cult members do. he said why would i even approach a negative perspective. that would be a crime to me personally to do that. if you are looking at a difference between a cult and a religion, that's a good one right there. to refuse to watch something that portrays your belief
12:35 am
system in a negative light because you think it is a crime, that's probably a good sign you are in a cult. on the other hand i have no doubt what he says about how scientology got him through horrible -- like when his son died or whatever. have i no doubt -- i have no doubt it is 100% true. >> that's when people need religion the most when things like that happen in their lives. that's what makes humans special. we have high levels of cognitive and emotional thinking. you need a guide through those crazy times. >> and who is that god for you? guide? >> guide? >> is it xenu? >> a really great book by a buddhist nun called "when things fall apart" something advice hard advice for difficult times. it adds to any other religion. that's the thing. it is very inclusive as opposed to these cult things that can be kind of exclusive and troublesome.
12:36 am
>> i think he is dead. i think they killed him. >> i am pretty sure he is not dead. >> he seems creepy. >> are you disturbed by joanne's weird, hippie buddhist stuff? >> i do it for me. i don't put it on you. >> do we need to give her a quarter at the airport. >> no, that's fine. >> condemn her. >> i don't want to condemn anybody, but john travolta. how bad has he been getting with the creepy? was it the oscars ? he looks like the guy that asks people to call him uncle johnny t or something like that, right? cults are weird. this is a cult. he won't even watch it because he doesn't want to see the truth. >> i believe he will watch it. i don't believe he won't watch it. and then he will die? >> he will watch it because everybody watches their negative stuff. like i will not go on twitter and read the negative comments
12:37 am
about my hair. >> if you want to cry -- >> do you read the comments? >> that's what makes you human. i don't actually say john travolta is human. >> the screenwriter was a big scientologist who pulled out rather publicly. leah rimmany, she was a big scientologist and she dropped out. down think tom cruise about the next one? >> jason lee from "my name is earl" and" mall rat" and this is a weird thing to say, but he is so cool. i was surprised to hear he is a scientologist. i would like to hear what he thought from a guy who grew up in a scene of -- he used to skateboard and he did a lot of indy films. i would like to see what his experience was. he got more and more famous and maybe scientology helped. >> i saw jason lee at a
12:38 am
radiohead concert when i lived in l.a. i didn't like how he looked. there was something about him. >> is it weird we are having this conversation in the past 10 days when we hear about religious freedom and religious liberty and you can't criticize my religious beliefs. andy, isn't this a religious freedom thing? >> the problem with the scientology is thought the beliefs. they seem ridiculous to people who don't believe them. the problem is the shady and gross way these control their -- ways they control their members' lives. assuming you believe that stuff and it is fairly credible that's the problem with scientology. john travolta's wife, kelly preston is i believe is an operating level seven. >> that's high. >> if travolta were to leave unless she came with him he
12:39 am
would never be able to have contact with her or his daughter again. it is stuff like that that is where you go okay well that's a problem. i don't care if you believe in xenu as long as it doesn't affect me. >> i used to do this as a joke. i would use the scientology lingo and get serious and blank faced. people who didn't know me well freaked out for 30 seconds. are you serious? it was funny. you could see in their face and they go oh no. >> we lost a good one. >> do we need to get over that? >> no, and i think it is fine for people to get offended and say they are uh -- offended and be prejudice against what they want. >> the bottom line is they are not coming out against scientology because they think there are secrets about them travolta and tom cruise. they think it is a big thing. i want to say -- i don't think i have credibility in this -- >> that's for sure. we can agree to that. >> can you come out no matter
12:40 am
what scientology drops about you you are for given. you have a pass right now. whatever we find out -- say tom cruise or john travolta is gay, i think it is fine. let's just say it is okay whatever happens. >> forget the scientology stuff, nothing about scientology is as bad as crash. >> before we move on let's watch this scientology response to the hbo documentary. >> hi. i'm from the church of scientology. you may have seen the hbo documentary "going clear." well i'm here to dispel some of the vicious lies alleged in that documentary. scientologists are just like you. we really are. i put my pants on just like everybody else. i just happen to believe that a galactic overlord named zenu september me to this planet 75 million
12:41 am
years ago. is my body the vessel of the souls of dead space aliens ? yes, but i love vegan em paw gnaw dos. what are my favorite films ? let me see. jerry mcgwire, a few good men, risky business and cocktail. what is this oppressive person? you are which is why we are watching you closely. we are also reading your tweets about hbo's going clear. we are just like you andzwe foe where you live -- we know where you live. the church of scientology is not weird. we understand that it might be weird to keep saying that we are not weird, but we're not. we are not weird. >> i don't know why i have to say this, but that was not the church of scientology. that was made by the good people of internet action force. it is time to take a break. silicon valley conservatives when we come back. first huer is what is coming up tomorrow on "kennedy." >> on the next "kennedy" andy levey will drop by to share
12:42 am
12:45 am
12:46 am
comes with being conservative. one long-time political consultant you learn how to operate as a republican. you keep your view points to yourself. >> what is it with people? they don't want anybody to disagree with them ever? >> that's the thing. i don't want you to disagree with me. >> i don't feel safe hearing that. >> i would sue you. >> i mean don't ask, don't tell is back. >> usually when i hear in the closet republican i picture an area port bathroom. >> not exactly. joanne have you ever felt like you couldn't share your political views?
12:47 am
>> at the just don't have opinions and therefore i don't have to quiet them. >> that's easier. >> when you were in the pagent world we can say and you were competing in the paneling end world we have already done our cult scientology segment. did you feel you could say what you believed? >> i it doesn't matter. so long as you have convictions that it sounds reasonable. if you can put together a coherent sentence it is much more important than anything else. it is getting a bad wrap of being intolerant, but it is progress accepts that are -- progressants that are intolerant.
12:48 am
they are spending more time with these people and so if you teal uncomfortable, that sucks. >> do did you ever think it would hurt you in the workforce? >> it was something the more you said something. >> i get keeping the reason part a secret or the social conservative part a secret. i always thought libertarianism had a fairly decent size representation. i am not saying libertarianism is better than republicanism. it is surprising they think they have to keep quiet. >> i am a libertarian and i feel i am hated for it everywhere i go. on the one side i am too conservative. you have to learn to embrace the haters. just see it is all attention and all great. you can't be afraid and why?
12:49 am
maybe you are conservative and you are going to whine about how liberals hate you. they will say i do have a friend i like and they are conservative. maybe they are not all evil. >> andy is right. silicon valley is innovation and greed. >> there must be a lot of them in the closet. >> how do you persuade these people? >> i thought they -- you have peter and people like that. they are powerful. it is a surprise to me that maybe lower level in terms of jobs is that liber tear yens think they are. >> we will close things out by showing you an android tv host. and to see clips of recent shows go to fox news.com/red eye.
12:53 am
12:54 am
>> tv hosts hosts are too important not to have a back up. an android version of a late night personality just made its television debut. the robot clone and the real thing appeared together last week. they were by a human operator like joanne. the hope is they will learn the job through voice and face recognition. in america at least one network has been testing the android. >> we told you last night that they are preparing the signs of a takeover of american airlines. today they got important allies. >> andy, are we all just going to be replaced by robots. that guy was pretty good. >> this was done because you have to express emotion. i am outraged by this. i don't think i have been angrier.
12:55 am
stop rob. i'm afraid rob. >> people have been saying this is what will happen with technology. are you worried? >> i am worried i should get replaced on the panel because i don't understand the story. so many -- so much thing happening. >> well fix that. >> can an android have -- is this ignorant but can an android have an agenda? >> clearly it is a gender. >> how far are we having androids complain they are being othered. >> i am jealous and thinking of my own career and why is this robot able to host -- i don't know. robots will have our jobs and will we be happy.
12:56 am
>> will you do some things right now? >> i can name two things a robot cannot do. see i will never lose my job. >> it is nerve-wracking. this is wax museum coming to life. >> or like at disney world the president -- where all of the presidents. >> they talk faster. >> it doesn't sound like cheap television. it is expensive to make. i think they will pull these things out. >> didn't they try this with max hedron? >> yes. you will have to start up a john wilkes booth.
12:57 am
>> tv's andy levey and joanne nosuchunsky. that does it for me. i'm rob long. see you next time. ahh, there it is. uh, excuse me sir? i think you've got the wrong bag. >>sorry, they all look alike, you know? no worries. well, car's here, i can't save people money chatting at the baggage claim all day. geico®. fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance.
