>> dozens of homesá and buildings just destroyed. one of the hardest-hit areas is fairdale, illinois. >> that's where maria joins us live with a look at all the destruction there. maria. >> good morning. good to hear your voices here on this friday morning. i'm in fairdale, illinois where a massive terrifying twister hit yesterday afternoon. this continued to move through parts of iowa and through illinois. here in fairdale, one person has been confirmed dead and at least seven others have been injured. due to the severity of the damage here in fairdale, the rock ford illinois, fire department is helping to respond to the damage. just to give you a sense of how bad the damage is here in fairdale, every single home has either sustained damage or has and you can see behind me a structure just completely unrecognizable and that's pretty much the scene here across this

town of fairdale. just to the south, we have another town rochelle, she also suffered some severe damage from another possible tornado that moved through that area. crews there rescuing people from debris where a restaurant was destroyed and this is all part of a large storm system. there were reports of severe weather as far south as parts of texas. and this massive storm will continue to move eastward for today and the risk for severe weather was not over just yet across parts of texas, the gulf coast and even up into the mid-atlantic. you are looking for a slight risk of severe weather, isolated tornados large hail will be possible. >> over to you in new york. >> be careful, maria, and give our thoughts and prayers to everyone you come in contact with. just devastating there. chaos in our nation's capital. a skoourt guard has died after being shot at the u.s. census bureau. the gunman now leading police on a child chase that ended in a shoot-out. it started with the suspect

kidnapped a woman that he knew forcing her into a car. the two were seen arguing. security guard lawrence buckner was shot as he approached that car and he died at the hospital. the gunman fired at police during the chase and kept shooting after police rammed his corner and cornered him in a busy area packed with bars and restaurants. >> we heard people in the restaurant saying, get down, everybody get on the floor. we saw the wave of people starting closest to the window off of their chairs, laying on the floor curled up on the floor. >> the gunman and an officer were both hurt during the shoot-out. the kidnapped woman found safe. brand new dash cam video shows the moment before officer michael slager shot and killed an unarmed black man in south carolina. the video, you're looking at it it just came out days after the officer was arrested and fired from the force. patricia stark joins us now with a look at the new piece of

evidence. good morning patricia. >> good morning. we are now getting our first look at that dash cam recording. you see walter scott being pulled over for a broken taillight. officer michael slager gets out of his krooud cruiser to talk to the driver. but when he gets back into the car to check the license and registration, scott opens his door and the officer tells him to stay put. that's when you see scott take off running. the next moments we know what happened due to cell phone video this week. it shows scott running the officer firing eight shots at his back. while officer slager faits faces murder charges his mother is standing by him saying these actions are completely out of character. she admits she cannot bring herself to watch the video. >> i just have to let it be and hope god takes care of everybody involved. not only my family but the scott family because i know they're grieving too like i've

fire officials saying single building there, every single one has some sort of damage. with up to 20 buildings destroyed. and in rachell, illinois, a tornado nearly leveling a restaurant trapping a dozen customers and employees. crews were able to get everyone out safely. no one was seriously injured. the defense department finally acknowledged the deadly shooting at ft. hood five years ago was an act of terror. not workplace violence as originally designated. this morning nearly 50 victims are honored with purple hearts, but not all of them are getting combat benefits. fox news's chief intelligence correspondent catherine heriage has that report. >> on november 5th 2009, shawn manning was shot six times by major nadal hasan. two bullets are still in his body and he suffers from ptsd. man sg about to receive a purple heart, but is not getting combat related benefits for his wounds. in a fox documentary, manning recounted the massacre which killed 13 and injured more than 30 others.

and every single home in this town was either completely destroyed by the tornado or severely damaged. and you can see behind me we have a lot of debris a lot of rubble and even a truck and other cars that have been severely damaged by this tornado. we're going to continue to survey the damage as the sun does raise later this morning and we continue to get an idea of how badly the damage is here. crews will continue to search the debris today but the concern now is that behind this massive storm system that ripped through this area, we have cold temperatures that have moved in. this ñmorning we have those current temperatures only in the low 40s. you have the wind also gusting. so that's making it feel like the 30s out here. so it's very chilly. south of here another town hit hard by another storm in the tornado was the town of rochelle. there was severe damage there. severe whether is jorchb going this morning. we have tornado watches across parts of kentucky and ohio. severe weather watches, as well.
