is is seriously a no-brainer. >> that's a good point. thanks so much for watching us. we will see you on monday morning at 5:00 a.m., have a great weekend. >> yeah, a wonderful one. and "fox & friends" starts for you right now. bye. good morning to you it is friday, april 10th, 2015. we begin with a fox news alert. deadly tornadoes ripped through the midwest. and as people are waking up to the rumble, news that more twisters could be on the way. we are live on the ground. and we saw the end when a south carolina cop shot a man dead. this morning, the beginning of that chase caught on dash cam camera. >> danger, danger, danger! >> why did he take off like that? up close, a look at the brand new dash cam video straight
3:01 am
ahead here on "fox & friends." after five long years today, the heroes and victims of the terrorist attack are finally getting their purple hearts, but not the benefits that go along with it? at least in one case, that's the story. how does that work? it's friday "fox & friends" starts now. you're watching "fox & friends," my mom's number one television show. and we know that because one day when he was on talking about how much she likes the show. we said, why don't you call her? and she was watching. she's probably watching right now. good morning. >> good morning. >> now he's still starring on television and the big screen. let's start with if you're looking for her, don't look for her around here. >> she's talking extreme weather. we're going to get to it. devastation in the midwest. tornadoes slamming iowa, illinois, and ohio, killing one person.
3:02 am
>> it looks like a movie but it's not. dozens of homes and buildings are destroyed. one of the hardest hit areas in illinois. a look the a the destruction. and e o, my goodness, look at it behind you. >> yeah. good morning, steve, elizabeth, and bryan. and hello everyone at home. this is a town approximately 70 miles to the west of the city of chicago. and as you can see behind me, we have a lot of destruction and rubble that is in place here in fairdale. and unfortunately, one person was killed here by a massive twister that struck yesterday afternoon. she was a 67-year-old woman found dead in her home and seven others were injured. every single home in this town was either destroyed or severely damaged. and as you can imagine the power is out here. so everyone has been evacuated. and a shelter has been set up at a nearby high school. crews will continue searching the debris today.
3:03 am
and south of here in a town of rochelle, another tornado struck that area and there was damage there, as well. and people were rescued from a restaurant that suffered severe damage. but the concern is now that behind the storm system here for cleanup efforts, we have very cold temperatures, they're in the 30s and 40s blustery winds, it's going to feel cold out there as people continue to search through the damage. severe weather is still possible this morning. we have tornado watches and also severe thunderstorm watches that have been issued across parts of ohio, kentucky, and even in areas farther east. and as we head into this afternoon, we're looking at the risk for -- >> all right. maria, i think we lost your satellite. she was talking about how right now a tornado watch is in effect until 8:00 this morning for parts of central and southern ohio and central kentucky, as well. that does include the city of lexington. it appears the highest severe weather threat has now passed louisville and cincinnati. there's also a severe thunderstorm watch in effect until, as you can see right

here, until 10:00 eastern time for parts of eastern ohio west virginia eastern kentucky and eastern tennessee. this does include the city of charleston, west virginia. you can see the zones right there. as the severe weather marches to the east. >> yeah. amazing pictures. and we'll keep you up to date on what's going on. >> meanwhile -- >> every building in that town impacted. >> every single one. >> terrible. >> devastating, in fact. we're going to switch gears here and bring you this. a fox news exclusive. today at about 9:00 a.m., victims of the ft. hood devastation there finally receiving that purple heart they so deserve. but it may only be symbolic. at least in one case. the government as you know is still denying benefits for those injuries sustained in the attack. remember the big change the families are fighting hard to have this recognized. and in early february congress after being pushed here demanded a change in the medal's eligibility criteria. they are now considered a terrorist attack the perpetrator was in communication

with the foreign terrorist before the attack. so the stipulations have actually changed. and today they will get their due in part, at least. >> here's the problem. at least in sergeant shawn manning's case, he'll be joining us. you get the purple heart, manning's been shot, shot six times, still got ptsd but nowhere in this package does it offer combat benefits for service members permanently disabled in attacks inspired or motivated by foreign terrorist organization. and because of that in practical terms he could be losing back pay as well as about $800 a month. so you've got good news and bad news. the good news is after years and years where the department of defense says it's workplace violence now they're saying it's terrorism. that's good news. it's good news that these guys are going to wind up with purple hearts. that's good news. the bad news is, why aren't they getting the money they so dearly deserve? that's the question. this goes right up to the top.
3:06 am
this goes right to the commander in chief. here's manning himself, shot six times by nadal hasan. >> i think almost unheard of for someone to receive the purple heart but not have their injuries deemed combat related. and i know that was not what congress intended to happen, but it is what currently the army has determined is going to happen. >> the general says, look, the army's going to straighten this out. he's sure of it. we have a responsibility, take care of those who fight, especially the purple heart which dates back to george washington. >> that's right. today 9:00 a.m. lieutenant shawn mcfarland will be the ceremony and we'll be standing by for that. >> by the way shawn manning coming up at 7:15 eastern. meanwhile here's an exclusive. we figured out how the republicans are going to start running against hillary clinton. and you know what while she was way ahead in the polls we've got news about her fading.
