happening now president obama may be ready to sit down at the same table as cuban president raul castro. the two have already talked. the white house saying the two spoke by phone on wednesday before the president left to attend the two-day summit of the americas happening now in panama. that is where we have more live from the summit in panama city, panama. kevin, one big move predicted that could happen today -- the u.s. removing cuba from the list of the state sponsors of terrorism. do you think we'll hear about that? >> reporter: good question, eric. i feel like it won't likely happen, at least officially until tomorrow. i think everything says it will happen during this trip to panama by the president of the united states. as you can imagine, people will be listening carefully to how the president characterizes the cuban regime during his comments in panama city. he did take a turn away from his scheduled events making a little

stop at the lock at the panama canal today. perhaps a chance to unlock years of diplomatic gridlock with havana in the offing. america's top diplomat, john kerry, did meet with his cuban counterpart last night. perhaps another signal that the administration has a strong desire to elevate the cuban regime. unfortunately, despite its human rights abuse. and we talked a bit about that moments ago eric with josh earnest and with brett rhodes of the obama team. i asked pointblank, does thetration compartmentalize -- the administration compartmentalize the notion that they know they are bad actors in cuba, they know there are problems with the regime and how it's treated its people? ben frankly said they recognize that happens all over the globe. if the american administration the obama administration in particular refused to do business or refused to have ties with every bad actor on the global stage we'd find ourselves isolated in great many ways. >> yeah, as you know, a very controversial move. the diplomatic effort with cuban. meanwhile, the next meeting,
10:46 am
besides the kerry one, is the president himself meeting with castro. when do we think that will take place? >> reporter: well you know, it's interesting. when you listen to josh describe wloontd that would -- whether or not that would happen, they're coy saying we'll keep you up to date on the schedule. there may or may not be an opportunity for a break, we haven't scheduled it. let may tell you, it will happen, probably tomorrow they'll have time together. what will be the meat or substance of the meeting we simply don't know. but i can tell you in his conversations yesterday in jamaica, the president made it clear it's time to give the americas a fresh look and time in particular to take a new approach as it relates to cuba. >> in our foreign policy, there are no senior or junior partners in the americas. they're just partners. that's one reason why the united states has started a new chapter in our relations with the people of cuba we feel continue to have differences with the cuban

government. we don't want to be imprisoned by the past. when something doesn't work for 50 years, you don't just keep on doing it you try something new. [ applause ] >> reporter: clearly there will be strong opposition on the hill. you've heard marco rubio bob menendez, vocal in their opposition to establishing new relationship ties with cuba. we'll have obviously a good chance to look closely at what congress has to say about the president's move in the days to come. >> a lot of position despite support. thanks, kevin. dangerous inaction by the food and drug administration. in 2013 the agency apparently found a chemiccal in popular health supplements that led to strokes and other serious cardiovascular complications. the agency did nothing. the fda never named those products or warned consumers about the risks. it did not even ask the companies to remove those dangerous stimulants from their

supplements. now many retailers are removing the products from their shelves. but that's in response to recent news reports about the findings. what gives? chair of urology at lenox hill hospital joins us now. the supplements are always controversial in that because people believe they're natural, they're using organic ingredients, that it's got to be good for the body. particularly when we're talking about weights loss products. >> you know what this is bringing so many questions as to why fda didn't really expose the products. we knew there were a lot of issues. they found that their amphetamine like products among the weight loss product and really never put them out there for people to know. should we wait until they have cardiovascular disease, stroke? absolutely not. there's a list of 11 products. a lot of vitamin companies are taking them off the shelf. people think that they're getting herbs, but there are a lot of other things contaminated in it. fda is really not looking out for us when it comes to this.
10:49 am
it's a huge problem. >> all -- all the interactions when you're talking about those with other medications people might be on. >> that's a good point. i have a lot of men in the field of utloolgrology that can be taking viagra, cialis ones on the screen. it can change metabolism, heart rate, blood pressure. and that interaction when your doctors don't know you're on them, the patients don't know what they're taking, this is bad news. >> i think people think they don't need to mention it to their doctors because theying it inging -- it's nothing where they're dealing with a regular prescribed medication. >> that's part of the problem. fda is not regulating. once it's part of the supplements or vitamins they're not being regulated. it's very hard. sometimes you know people pick on these traditional doctors saying that they are not promoting all these alternate medicines. on "sunday house call," i talk about vitamins and herbs all the time when it's legit.
10:50 am
for the most part because we component don't know what's in them and the interaction with other medications, the effect they. have the studies are weak when it comes to vitamins. i think it's -- it'sfda to really watch overit's the job of fda to really watch over this. and when there's bad news you don't wanto wait until like you have a lot of people dead on your hands before you announce them. this is coming to the surface. we're going to put this actually on line. there are 11 products. we just posted them. it will be on fox news and my own blog. we'll list all of them for people to know. they need to know there's no quick fix. still diet, exercise portion control, all of those are ways to a nutritionist and real doctor to find out what you should take. >> i'm curious about akaish ya, thinking it's an ininstant quick fix for weight loss. >> there's no such thing. >> thank you so much. how would you like to be
